                       for Monday, December 5, 1994

I'M A RAMBLIN' MAN:

After leaving Nadine, Buzz tries to hitchhike back to
Springfield, but no one will stop for him. He mumbles "I'm
coming home, Jenna. This time we're going to get it right."

He finally gets picked up by a truck driver. He takes the
opportunity to rant on and on about how the more you need people,
the less there are to rely on, and the les you need people, the
more that are around. He starts pouring his heart out to the
truck driver how the woman he wants to marry thinks he's still in
love with his wife.

Buzz continues to pur out his heart to the hapless truck driver.
Talking about what a jerk he is for treating NAdine the way he
has. He compares Nadine's good-naturedness to Jenna's temper.
He compares Nadine to a nice smooth interstate and Jenna to a
twisty little side road, full of pot holes. One is predictable,
the other full of surprises. He said he always used to want to
take the interstate, like his son and father did. However, he's
different, he makes a lot of wrong turns before he finds the
right direction. Buzz says he has no choice, he lives for
Jenna's smile. He rants some more and the truck driver stops.
Buzz wants to know if it was something he said :). (I was
waiting for the truck driver to kick him out!)

The truck driver doesn't say a word, but motions him out of the
cab, 400 miles from Springfield. Buzz still rambles, noting the
driver hasn't said anything and that guys are full of questions
and always searching for the answers when it comes to women. The
driver finally speaks up: "There's only one answer to all the
questions. If you didn't talk so much maybe you'd understand
that. To thine own self be true." Buzz grins and leaves. He
stands by the side of the road, holding a sign that says
Springfield.

Back in Springfield, Jenna looks through the "B" names in "A Name
for Your Baby."

CUTTER: SPRINGFIELD'S FINEST AND FASHION CONSULTANT

Tangie gets dressed for her date with AM. Cutter shows up to
return some dishes from the guys at the station (seems Tangie
made them Turkey Pot Pie). She informs him that she is going to
the opera.

Tangie is rushing around, trying to get ready, wearing some
atrocious red and black number. Cutter and Tangie discuss her
"fashion crisis." Cutter thanks her for the food she brought
him, saying he would have starved to death because he has not had
a day off since T-giving. Cutter gives Tangie some sage fashion
advice "You should be wearing the dress, the dress shouldn't be
wearing you!" Cutter reveals he got his eye for style from
having sisters. He picks out a black number and sends Tangie off
to change. As he pigs out on some rice pudding from the fridge,
AM shows up, all decked out in a tux. AM seems confused about
why Cutter is there.

Cutter and AM eye each other as Cutter chows down on the rice
pudding. Cutter reassures AM that Tangie always takes a long
time to get dressed. Tangie arrives, all decked out in a much
more tasteful dress, and Cutter leaves after he tells them to
have a good time at the "sing-song." AM wants to know if he was
her roomate. Tangie says he just stops by when he wants refills.
They are running late for the opera, but Tangie wants to forego
the opera and instead go somewhere to have "fun." She leads AM
out the door.

AM and Tangie end up at an ice skating rink. Tangie says she has
always dreamed of ice skating. AM wants to know where she, a
Texas girl, went skating. Tangie says she's only roller skated,
but that AM can teach her. He claims he has no patience for
teaching things. Seems AM can't skate either. The happy couple
make their way to the ice by clinging to each other, falling onto
the ice.

AM and Tangie take a cocoa break. They chit chat about skating
and their past hobbies. (Cute, but pointless scene).

AM and Tangie return to Tangie's place. They discuss how they're
home much earlier than they would be if they went ot the opera.
They start to stargaze, and Tangie tells how she used to dream
that the stars would bring good things down to them when she was
a girl. AM tells Tangie the evening was wonderful, and kisses
her tenderly. He says goodnight and leaves. Tangie softly says
"Would you like to come in?" and goes inside.

ALEX LOSES HER MIND!

Alexandra shows up at Vanessa's door, wanting to talk. Vanessa
tells Alex she is on her way out to somthing far more
"pleasurable" than listening to her. Alex begs Vanessa to hear
her out because she wants to end the game playing. Vanessa
doesn't believe her. Alex seems sincere.

Alex starts to tell Vanessa that Alan is dying. But Vanessa
doesn't want to hear anything because of what Alex has done to
Nick and Mindy. Alex says she's sorry about that, but all she
can feel sorry for right now is Alan. Vanessa reminds her that
if Alan is in pain, Alex contributed to it. Alex agrees and says
how sorry she is for treating Alan the way she has since he
returned. Vanessa is completely unsympathetic. Alex gets to the
point and asks Vanessa to release Alan's assets to him.

Alex and Vanessa continue their conversation. Alex tells Vanessa
in a round about way that she admires Vanessa and the Lewis
family's closeness with each other. She admires how they support
each other no matter what. The Spauldings don't know how to
behave that way. She asks for Vanessa's help in "finding"
herself. She wants ot know what Vanessa would do to get her
brother's love if she had only one last chance. Vanessa says you
can't bargain for love, and wants to know why Alex is asking
these things. She wonders if something is wrong with Alan.

Vanessa wants to know if Alan is sick. Alex says she's sick of
everything that has gone on. She wants to stop the tormentuous
relationship that she and Alan have. Vanessa wants to know what
Alex thinks signing over Alan's assets will do to Nick and the
rest of the family. Alex admits that she and Nick aren't exactly
on speaking terms. Vanessa is suspicious of Alex's complete
turn-about on signing over Alan's assets. Alex tells Vanessa she
is going to sign the document to give Alan back his assets.

Vanessa says it would be wonderful to end all the hatred. She
signs the paper, supposedly to protect her family from the
fallout of Spaulding versus Spaulding, to give Alan what he wants
and to maybe give Alex some peace.

THE TABLES TURN:

Alan answers the door to find Howie/Ross at his door, chewing his
cud. Howie/Ross offers Alan a piece of gum. Alan, in a fit of
stupidity, wants to know why Howie isn't in the South Pacific.
Howie/Ross replies that he's allergic to grass and he doesn't
like to be cheated. (Aha! Alan gets caught again! Though this
one isn't very satisfying. It seems to me that they dumbed Alan
up in this scene a little too much. You would think the writers
could have come up with a little wittier way of having Ross
reveal himself to Alan.)

Alan, however, still thinks Ross is Howie. He thinks Howie wants
to blackmail him. Ross finds out that the money Alan had Howie
take is in a safe place, waiting for Alan to take back the
company. Ross and Alan discuss appropriate amounts of money for
Alan to pay "Howie" to keep his mouth shut about the deception,
when there's a knock at the door. It's Blake, there to talk to
Alan. Blake sees "Howie" and keeps the charade going by asking
Ross what he's doing there with a snake like Alan.

Alan tries to get Blake to leave, but "Howie" and Blake play it
up, slowly revealing their scam, even going so far as to swap
gum. Ross tells Alan to give him the 1.4 million dollar check
back, because it doesn't belong to any of them. He asks Blake
for his ring back as they call Alan to task for trying to trick
Blake into signing. Ross threatens legal action unless he gives
back the check for the Spaulding fund.

Back at the Marler residence, Ross and Blake drink champagne,
post boink. They discuss how brilliant they were. Blake kisses
Ross' jaw, neck and sternum which are sore from chewing all that
gum ;). They toast their liberation and freedom from the
Spauldings. They gaze at the check that Alan obviously turned
back over to them. Blake notes the check is made out to cash and
tries to tempt Ross to leave everything behind and run off, but
Ross won't do it. Blake says she thought Alan was about to cry
when he handed it over.

Back at the cottage, Alan broods, listens to classical music, and
smashes his drink into the fireplace.

Blake and Ross play with the check and cuddle some more. Blake
says, "Alan Spaulding, eat your heart out. I wouldn't sign that
damn document for you if your life depended on it!"

That's it!
