A cold, boring morning in Springfield, USA...

BOARDINGHOUSE: Matt sleeps as someone wearing jeans quietly enters his
room. She carefully slips off her clogs & drops her coat, then tip-toes
in sock-clad feet over to the bed. She lifts the covers & slides in,
waking Matt with her cold hands. Vanessa!

HOUSE OF BROKEN DREAMS: Alex lies sleeping, a photo album with shots of
her & Alan as children open beside her. Vera [haven't seen *her* in an
age!!] sets down a cup of coffee retrieves the albums from the bed. Alex
awakens & is momentarily startled, then elated to see Vera, who has
arrived early for a planned visit. Vera asks who Alex was shouting at
when she called "Don't go in there!" in her sleep. She was yelling at
Alan to not jump in the public pool in town. She remembers her father
getting angry & telling Alan he could get sick & die. Alan would turn
white. "He never really wanted to die."

LEWIS HOUSE: Jenna stands outside waiting for someone to answer the door.
She talks to her baby about asking "Aunt Vanessa" to be her partner in
Lamaze class. Henry answers the door & offers to take Jenna's coat, but
she opts to keep it, claiming to still be cold. When Jenna asks for Van,
Henry says she's not there, but he doesn't know where she is. He invites
Jenna in to have a nice chat & she looks a little uncomfortable.

HONEYMOON SUITE AT MOOSE LODGE: Buzz sleeps while Nadine paces & tells
the moose head on the wall to stop staring at her. Buzz wakes, thinking
he's done something wrong. She tells him to go back to sleep, but he can
tell she's still feeling guilty & says it's self-inflicted pain. She says
she just doesn't sleep well in unfamiliar places. Buzz predicts problems,
seeing as they were planning to be on the road awhile. He wonders why
they're not having fun on their adventure. He says she can't keep
worrying about the kids; Frank knows they're not running away, but
running towards something. "I'm not running away from anything. Are you?"
Nadine turns her head away. Buzz says he just wants them to have fun.
Nadine hugs him & asks him to help her do that.

While shaving, Buzz tells Nadine about all the exciting activities
planned for the moose festival. Nadine feigns enthusiasm & says maybe
they can find some new Christmas ornaments at the crafts fair. She
wonders if they'll have a place of their own by Christmas & Buzz says
they certainly will. Buzz thinks Christmas is an in-home, family kind of
thing. He waxes nostalgic about all the Xmases he missed with his kids.
They decide to go to the fair.

LEWIS HOUSE: Jenna, still in her coat, sits with Henry & laughs at his
stories. He offers more food & she accepts. He comments that she's put on
a little weight & it looks very becoming on her. He wishes Van would do
the same. :-) Jenna says she's not a good example for anyone to follow.
Henry asks what's bothering her -- he can tell she's sad & happy at the
same time. Jenna decides it's time to leave & mentions that she's going
to a class. Henry is glad that she's trying something new. She admits to
being somewhat frightened. Henry professes faith in Jenna's ability to do
anything she wants. He looks down at her belly & gently opens her coat,
wordlessly letting her know that he knows her situation. "You've proven
me right many times & you'll do it again," Henry assures her. Jenna tears
up & hugs him. He promises to let Van know Jenna stopped by.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Post-boff, Van & Matt curl up under the covers & talk
about the other night in the restaurant. Van says it would have been too
strange to tell the Taggarts about them before they told their families.
Matt thinks it should be easy: just gather everyone in a room & announce
it over a megaphone. But he realizes it will take more than seeing them
happy together to convince everyone that it's a good thing. There's such
a difference in their backgrounds. He doesn't speak French; his family
vacations consisted of trips to Springfield or Detroit. Van mock-decides
that this changes everything -- she can't possibly be with a man who
doesn't know a 2nd language! "I know a little Pig Latin," confesses Matt.
Van decides this will suffice, & they fall back to bed with a kiss.

SPAULDING SANITARIUM: Vera encourages Alex to eat & get dressed, but
she's not inclined to do either. Alex asks if Vera's seen Nick, but Vera
heard that he didn't come home last night. She gives Alex a brush & tells
her she needs to get into the office. Alex asks how old she was when they
got their dog, Chips. Vera establishes the sibling age order & difference
once & for all by saying Alex was 8 and Alan was 10 or 11. Alex
reminisces about the fun they had with the spaniel. Vera remembers Alex
crying because Alan claimed possession of the dog. Vera says Alex & Alan
didn't have as much fun together as they might have because their parents
never taught them how to share. Alex still feels a bond to her brother &
knows she would never be the same without him.

DINER: Blake & Ross hug as he prepares to execute some brilliant plan
they've devised. Ross encourages Tangie to have lunch with Blake & keep
her out of trouble until he gets back. T has all afternoon free because
the Journal is fixing the heat. Blake wonders why Tangie doesn't go spend
some time with Alan-Michael. Tangie says she has a date with him tonight.
Blake suggests getting a "head start" & notes that AM "has never been one
to turn down a little afternoon delight." Eleni & Lucy listen in with
interest (or was it horror?) as T acknowledges Blake's position as an
expert on AM, "but I don't think I'm gonna run across town just yet to
jump his bones." :-) She admits they haven't actually gotten "that far"
yet. Blake notices the "ex" club watching & signals to Tangie, who turns
around, gets embarrassed, & excuses herself in order to commit suicide.

MEMORY MANSION: Alex decides to spend the day "catching up" with Vera.
Vera is agreeable, but inisists that Alex get dressed first. Alex picks
up the phone, thinks about calling Alan, then decides against it. Ross
shows up, mad as a hornet. "If I weren't a civilized man, your miserable
excuse for a brother would be as good as dead."

CEDARS HOSPITAL: Jenna talks to the Lamaze teacher & says her partner
couldn't make it today. The teacher offers to be Jenna's partner for the
class. Jenna's glad to see that the partner doesn't have to be the
father. The teacher asks the class about naming their babies. One dad
wants to name his boy "Axl" (as in Rose). Jenna hasn't thought about
names yet. "I guess there's a lot of things I haven't thought about."

MOOSE LODGE: Returning from their outing, Nadine wants to rest for a bit.
Buzz says she's making him crazy with her lack of enthusiasm. She thought
once they got away, things would be different & she could "put it out of
my mind." Buzz wants to know what "it" is. "I have a right to know," he
says. [You have no idea how right you are, Buzz.]

DINER: Blake invites a protesting Eleni to join her & Lucy in a booth for
a "meeting." The wildly enthusiastic Blake thinks they need to elect a
president for FOAMS (Friends of Alan-Michael Spaulding). Everyone tries
to bag, but Blake herds them back & tells them to stop being wusses. She
announces Tangie's "fledgling" relationship with AM & says she could
benefit from all their experience. T hangs her head. "This is the most
humiliating day of my life." Lucy complains that she doesn't even know
Tangie, no offense. None taken, replies T. Eleni suggests that Blake may
be sticking her well-intentioned nose where it does not belong. Tangie
applauds this. Lucy says T doesn't want any advice from her "unless it's
on what *not* to do." Tangie doesn't want to talk about AM & prefers to
muddle through on her own. Blake calls T "a pathetic excuse for a female"
but agrees to the moratorium on AM talk. But as long as they're all
together, she wants to hear dirt; she's bored & life is short.

Matt enters & asks Stavros about the help-wanted bulletin board, since
he's looking for work -- construction, remodeling, that sort of thing.
Stavros asks if he can fix a dishwasher, but Matt admits he's not much of
a plumber. Stavros steers him toward the bulletin board & warns him to
steer clear of the FOAMS table: "When you get that many women together
laughing, it can be very dangerous."

Eleni expounds on the necessary elements of a relationship: passion &
respect. "I could never respect a man who did not work as hard as I did."
Lucy seconds this as Matt reads the bulletin board & listens in. Lucy
says the man of her dreams will have a great job & know exactly what he
wants. Blake says it was Ross's ambition that attracted her. "What they
say about power is very true. It's very sexy." Matt gets a depressed look
on his face & walks behind the pillar. Tangie figures she's getting old
because what she used to love about a man was "hair down to here & he
could do it all night." Now she appreciates not having to buy dinner
every night. Matt's not a happy camper.

LEWIS HOUSE: Van munches on a sandwich, then answers the door to Mrs.
Grant, who came by to talk about the charity ball. Vivian compliments Van
on how well she looks & asks her secret. Van's just been re-evaluating
her priorities & not working so hard. "I've discovered that work is
highly overrated." Viv has tried to tell her husband the same thing. She
thinks Dr. Grant is hiding his concerns in work. She admits they're both
very worried about David & recaps the story for Van, who is properly
sympathetic. Viv wants to get over it, but it's been a very tense few
weeks: first Ed gets arrested, now this. [This was certainly the biggest
scene Vivian has had since the Gilly/David/pimp-shooting storyline.
Hamp's been around more too, lately, then Vera arrives today. Could GL be
trying to increase the visibility of Springfield's minority population by
giving these non-contract players more exposure? And might they possibly
get more involved in the central storylines? Let's hope so!]

SPAULDING MANSION: Ross recaps Alan's nefarious bank account swiping.
Alex doesn't think Ross will have much to worry about from Alan. Ross
asks if Alex & Alan were in it together. She denies this & notes
regretfully how far apart she & her brother have grown. Ross says he
doesn't want to deal with any of the Spauldings anymore & hands Alex his
letter of resignation. "I am out of here." Alex asks him to reconsider,
but Ross says both she & Alan are "stark raving mad." He walks out. Alex
calls for Vera & announces that she's finally going to get dressed.

CEDARS: The class practices focusing & breathing & keeping a rhythm.
Jenna's doing particularly well & the teacher asks if she is using any
special technique. Jenna shares that she's thinking of a nursery rhyme:
"Have you seen the muffin man, the muffin man...." The whole class starts
singing with her. [gag!!] Jenna shares how she talks to her baby all the
time & others admit doing this as well. The teacher says this is a good
way to bond. She gives some final instructions & dismisses the class.
Jenna confesses to the teacher how good the class is for her as it's been
difficult not being able to share her pregnancy with many others. But she
has a positive outlook & that's what counts.

MOOSE LODGE: Buzz returns with Xmas ornaments, since Nadine said they
needed them. Deenie says they won't need them after all & asks if he
pictured Xmas as the 2 of them toasting their new life & playing carols
on the stereo. "But what about afterward, when I wake up in the middle of
the night & reach for you & you're not there & I find you staring out the
window? Do you think I'm not going to know what you're thinking about &
what you're remembering?" Buzz is clueless. Nadine remembers last Xmas
when Jenna showed up. Buzz can't believe Deenie is still dwelling on
Jenna. It's over. The relationship died a natural death. "I woke up &
looked around & found somebody who'd share everything she had. That's
love, Nadine. She couldn't come up with that." Nadine says it's because
Jenna didn't know how much Buzz loved her. He says it's not because he
didn't try to tell her. Nadine admits she saw the videotape. Buzz
apologizes, but Nadine tells him to stop & confesses to erasing the part
about Jenna & making sure Jenna saw what Buzz said about loving Nadine.
"So what do you think of your sweet Nadine now?" She can't accept Buzz's
love because of her guilt for helping to keep him & Jenna apart. "I don't
know how you're going to feel, but whatever you do, I don't blame you."
Nadine goes off crying into the bathroom as Buzz stands agape.

DINER: Matt talks on the phone while Eleni advises Lucy to take her next
blind date dancing, because "you can tell a lot about somebody by the way
they dance." Blake & Eleni dance together as Blake talks about Ross's
great dancing. Tangie says she didn't know AM that well when Doris threw
them together at the Roadhouse. Blake chastises her for bringing up AM,
then pulls Lucy out on the floor to strut her stuff. She points Lucy at
the phone & tells her to try her moves out on Matt. Lucy declines & hides
behind Tangie, who scolds, "Back, Blake!" Lucy says Matt has a girl, but
never talks about her. Matt heads for the door & Blake pushes Lucy in his
path, suggesting that they dance. Matt declines, saying he has to run.
Lucy gives Blake a look & Blake walks off in a semi-huff, saying, "At
least I tried!"

LEWIS HOUSE: Van puts on lipstick & shouts to her dad that she's on her
way out. She runs into Alex at the door. Alex wants to repair their
"wretched" relationship. Van doesn't see how.

CEDARS: Jenna sings to her baby in the empty classroom. We hear Nadine's
voice as Jenna walks around the deserted room, then fade into...

MOOSE LODGE: Through the bathroom door, Nadine tells Buzz one more thing,
even though she doesn't know if he's still out there. "Jenna's pregnant,
Buzz. She's gonna have your baby." No response. Nadine opens the door &
sees that the room is empty as the screen fades to black.
