GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1997

                      PARTY OF THE FIRST PART

HIGHLIGHTS:
* Cassie, Reva & Josh celebrate shared values
* The Marlers, Reades, Rick, Abby & Rog celebrate the twins' birthday
* Roger gives Holly a gift
* Dinah & Hart plan their own celebration
* Annie celebrates motherhood. Alan has other plans.
* Roy celebrates his freedom

LEWIS OIL: Josh promises Cassie that he will take care of her at the
convention. She drops a piece of paper & they both bend to pick it up,
banging heads. Josh touches her face to make sure she's OK, as Reva
enters. He quickly explains to Reva what happened.

Reva apologizes to Cassie for thinking she was Alan's spy & announces
that the real spy is Donald Paulson, the personnel director. He used
to work for Alan, & lives way better than he should be able to on his
salary. Reva's going to check the phone records to see if Paulson has
been calling Alan. Cassie asks if Reva is sure, since she's making a
pretty serious accusation. Josh says they need evidence. Reva says
Billy is cleaning out Paulson's office right now & they're bound to
find some evidence there. Josh wants to join Billy & talk to Paulson.
Reva says Paulson is conveniently out of town, but when he gets back,
they'll grill him & then send him back to Alan, gift-wrapped. Cassie
hopes this means Reva can trust her again. Reva says she still thinks
there's a lot Cassie's not telling her.

COMPANY: Balloons abound, because Blake & Ross are having a birthday
party for the twins. [Continuity Error #1: Wasn't Blake decorating the
house earlier for this party? How & why did it get moved to Company?]
Holly & Fletcher are there without Meg, who is home sick.

Over by the bar, Dinah comments to Hart on how cute her little
brothers are. Hart says by this time next year, they could have one of
their own. She says you never know what can happen when you throw away
your birth control pills. Hart suggests leaving a little early to have
their own party, but Dinah protests that the twins' party hasn't even
started yet. Hart wants to make up, and spend lots of time doing it.
Dinah agrees to leave with him.

Outside, Rick & Abby arrive. Rick's nervous, worrying about the gift
he's brought. He wants to go back for something else, or for balloons.
Abby says it's not necessary. Rick wants the party to be perfect. Abby
says as long as there's ice cream, the kids will think it's perfect.
Rick realizes that Abby is right & that he's going overboard. And he's
very happy that Abby is coming with him. Abby says she needs to get on
with her life & can't worry about the trial all the time. Rick says he
loves her & he loves Kevin too. He doesn't want to cause trouble, but
he knows he has rights, and he'll fight for them if he has to.

Inside, Hart tells Blake that he & Dinah are taking off. Dinah says
goodbye to everyone & they leave as Rick & Abby enter. Rick approaches
Ross, who is holding Kevin, and asks if Kevin wants to come to him.
Ross hesitates, then says sure, as soon as he cleans the kid up.

Roger arrives, bearing armloads of gifts, and joins the crowd. Ross &
Blake pose with the kid as Holly snaps their picture. Rick looks on
wistfully. Ross invites Rick to come hold Kevin for another photo.
Roger gets annoyed when he sees Rick & asks what he's doing there.
[Continuity Error #2: Since when does Roger have a problem with Rick?]

LOWHAD?: Tammy squirms as Annie brushes her hair & puts it in a
ponytail. Tammy doesn't think this is a good idea, because her mommy
always wanted her to wear her hair down. [Continuity Error #3: The
last time we saw Cassie with Tammy, Tammy`s hair was in two ponytails.
So what's this nonsense about Cassie liking her to wear it down?]

Alan shows up & says Tammy looks very pretty. He wants to talk to
Annie. They leave the room & Annie thanks Alan profusely for bringing
Tammy to her. Alan reminds her that he only did it to keep Cassie on
the job. Annie gushes about Tammy's beautiful blonde hair. Alan says
he's made reservations for them at the Towers Club, but Annie says
she's tired & would rather stay home & have pizza. Annie goes over to
Tammy & puts her face right next to the little girl's, showing Alan
how much they resemble each other. Alan looks concerned.

COMPANY: Holly takes a photo of Blake & Ross & Rick & Abby with the
boys. Afterwards, Roger drags Blake aside & asks why she invited Rick.
He thinks it's going to be a fiasco. Blake doesn't want Roger to ruin
the party. He tells her to come outside with him.

Ross thinks it's a good time to get started with lunch. Rick thanks
Ross for including him in the pictures. Holly & Abby talk about the
upcoming trial. Abby isn't looking forward to talking about her awful
experience in court. Ross comes over with Jason & assures Abby that
he'll be with her through it all. Abby thinks Ross is a really good
lawyer & she believes that the system works, so they have nothing to
worry about.

Outside, Roger tells Blake that she's dreaming if she thinks this
party will work out OK. Blake says she can't keep Rick from his son.
Roger says she doesn't have to roll out the red carpet. Blake explains
that they are all trying to handle the situation like rational adults
& asks Roger to paste a smile on his face & just butt out. Roger
refuses. He thinks if they give Rick an inch, he'll take a mile, and
before they know it, Kevin won't be their son anymore. He also makes a
reference to Rick being Ed's son, which appears to really be his main
problem here.

Holly comes to the door & tells Rog to ease up. He's acting like it's
25 years ago & he's worried about Ed raising Chrissy. Rog denies this.
Holly tells Roger to leave it alone or just leave. Rick has every
right to be there. She sends Blake inside. At the door, Blake reminds
Rog that Rick is Kevin's father, & that will never change. Holly asks
Rog what's the matter with him.

LEWIS OIL: Cassie tries to call Alan, but hangs up when Reva & Josh
come out of his office. Reva has a bottle of champagne & says it's
time to take a break & celebrate. Reva wants to drink to Abby
surviving a tough time & to their future. She shows Cassie the date
that Lewis Oil has its annual winter picnic. She just knows that
Cassie will be there with her little girl. Josh pours the wine &
offers the toast to Abby & to Cassie's future with her daughter.

Reva offers a toast to friendship, mothers & daughters, and faith. She
says if you have faith, you can get through anything, as she & Josh
have. They drink to families.

LOWHAD?: Annie knows that Alan is worried that she's getting too
attached to Tammy. Alan just doesn't want Annie to get hurt. Annie is
incredulous. She lost her own child & didn't even have a chance to
grieve because of Josh & Reva. So she has all this love to give a
child. Can't Alan understand how important it is for her to believe
she has a little girl? Pitifully, she says she knows she's not really
a mother, but she would like just a few days to pretend. Alan feels
sorry for her & hugs her. [Continuity Error #4: This entire
conversation took place in Tammy's room, but Tammy was nowhere in
sight. Where did the child go?]

Alan says Annie has to get control of her obsessions & keep her eyes
focused on the ultimate goal. She can't forget what's important. Annie
says she knows what's important. She thinks about Josh & Reva every
day & it's the fuel that drives her. She can't wait until Reva
discovers Cassie & Josh in bed, & then learns that Cassie is her
sister. Alan seems convinced. He thinks they're very close to getting
what they want. He's going over to the hotel to make sure everything
is set up for Josh & Cassie's assignation; he just hopes Cassie will
go through with it. Annie assures him that she will. Now that she
knows Tammy, she understands why Cassie would do anything for her.
Alan takes off.

Tammy returns, apparently having been playing dress-up elsewhere in
the house. She shows Annie what she found--her mom's cameo. She asks
why Annie has it.

LEWIS OIL: Reva tells Cassie she knows how hard it is to play by other
people's rules. She herself lives by a few simple ones: 1) Don't go
within a mile of Alan or Annie without backup; 2) Don't do anything
that doesn't feel right, 3) Never let your guard down when playing
checkers with Billy, and 4) Never let a good man go, not even for an
instant. She kisses Josh across his desk. Cassie asks how Reva can
stay so strong. She says no to her enemies & nothing seems to throw
her. Reva says she comes from good peasant stock, as her mom used to
say. Josh says Reva's mom was wonderful & wise. Cassie wants to know
more about Reva's mom. Reva gets teary & says her name was Sarah.

COMPANY: Outside, Roger says Holly may think he's meddling in Blake's
life, but at least she's his daughter. Holly, on the other hand, has
insinuated herself into Abby's life. Holly defends her actions. Abby
was the victim of a brutal attack, and Holly has only been trying to
help her from her own experience. Roger says it's still no reason to
invite Abby & Rick to a family gathering. Rog doesn't care that Rick
plays the saint; when it comes to his son, Rog is sure Rick is as
territorial as anyone else. Holly doesn't think there's anything to
worry about.

Rog says Holly may have kept him from being Chrissy's father, but she
won't stop him from standing up for Blake's family now. Holly says she
doesn't have to agree with his tactics. Speaking of which, where's
Amanda? Rog says he didn't invite her because he wanted to be alone
with Holly & their grandkids.

FARMHOUSE: Hart & Dinah enter the bedroom kissing. She sends him off
to get a drink while she slips into something sexy. She pulls out a
negligee, and then takes her pill package from her dresser. She seems
torn, but admits to herself that she's just not ready to have a baby.
She walks back toward the dresser, still holding the pills, as Hart
returns. He thought she'd be in bed already. He asks what she's doing.

Dinah turns to Hart with her hands behind her back. It looks like she
might have tucked her pill pack into the back of her skirt. She
smoothes her blouse over her skirt & tells Hart she was just making
plans for them. She's glad the whole thing with Cassie is over & she
knows that Hart was only trying to help her. Hart says when Cassie
started talking about Tammy, it made him think about Peter, & he just
lost his head. Dinah understands.

Hart thinks when they have a baby, it's going to be a lot easier.
Dinah agrees. Hart promises he will never be dishonest with her again.
Besides, Cassie told him she was leaving Springfield & never coming
back. Dinah says she overreacted & Hart wouldn't be himself if he
didn't help out the underdog. He apologizes & asks Dinah to forgive
him. They start making out in earnest & Hart starts to put his arms
around Dinah's waist, but she takes his hands & kisses them instead.
He says he'll go get the wine. Dinah takes the pills from her skirt &
puts them in her dresser drawer.

COMPANY: Fletch talks on the phone to Meg, making sure she's OK. Blake
& Ross & Abby & Rick open some presents for the boys. Blake thinks
it's wonderful they can all get along this way for the kids.

Outside, Holly decides she's wasted enough time with Rog tonight. Rog
stops her with a gift--a "grandmother's ring," with the twins' birth-
stone. Holly asks if Amanda helped him pick it out. Rog doesn't see
why Holly always drags Amanda into the conversation. Holly points out
that Fifi is a part of his life. Rog says this is family time.

Holly thinks Rog is very predictable--he gets all mushy at family
gatherings, but the rest of the time, he thinks only of himself. Rog
asks what's wrong with wanting to be with Holly & their grandkids.
"You don't want me; you want the old dream," answers Holly. Rog gets
closer & asks what's wrong with that. "You never understood that it
might have, could have happened if you just let it, but you always had
to muck it up." She starts to go, but Rog urges her to take the ring.
She says she'd rather sell her soul, but there is one thing Rog can do
for her. "Drop dead?" asks Rog. She laughs & says she'd like to
strangle him. Rog asks what she wants him to do. She can't remember;
it couldn't have been very important.

Rog urges her to take the ring, so she finally takes it. She shakes
her head gently at him as he starts to put it on her finger. Just
then, Fletcher comes outside. Holly immediately steps back from Rog,
ask if caught in the act. Fletch looks at them suspiciously.

LEWIS OIL: Josh & Reva finish telling a story about Sarah. Reva says
she was tough, but she backed it up with a lot of love. She wanted her
kids to take pride in themselves & be their best. Cassie thinks it
must be nice to have a mother. Josh says Sarah was there for him too,
especially through the years when he thought he had lost Reva. She
believed that people who were meant to be together would be together
in the end. Cassie says she'll have to remember that when she thinks
about Tammy. She thanks them for sharing their memories.

Josh offers a toast to Sarah. Reva wishes Cassie could have met Sarah.
She only ever made one big mistake in her life, giving up something
that meant a lot to her. Cassie hopes Tammy won't blame her for the
mistakes she's made. Reva says Tammy knows Cassie loves her. Cassie
says Tammy is the only family she has. Reva hopes Cassie will think of
the Lewises as her extended family. Cassie thanks them, but says after
she gets Tammy back, she plans to leave town. Reva wants to talk her
out of it, but Josh tells her not to try to run Cassie's life. He
leaves to go pick up Marah. Reva says she has something private she
wants to talk to Cassie about.

LOWHAD?: Annie tries to convince Tammy to play with something else,
but she wants to play with the cameo because it's her mommy's. Annie
says it's not Cassie's. Cameos all look the same. Tammy says she
recognizes a particular spot on it that Cassie used to rub all the
time for luck. Annie takes the cameo & puts it away so Tammy won't
break it. Tammy sulks. Annie asks her what's wrong & wonders if it's a
boy. Tammy asks if she did something wrong, and that's why she's not
with her mom. She thinks she's being punished for something. Annie
says Tammy could never do anything bad. She sees how upset Tammy is,
so she takes the cameo out again & gives it to Tammy to keep for a
little while, and tells her it's their little secret.

Annie says she knows what it's like to feel sad & alone & afraid. She
promises that it will all end soon & Tammy will have a perfect life &
she'll never be without her mommy again.

COMPANY: Holly tells Fletch that if he has a problem with the ring,
she will give it back to Rog. Fletch says it's OK, because he knows
Rog will always be in her life because of Blake, but it has nothing to
do with what they have. Holly realizes she should have known he would
understand. Fletch brings her back inside because it's time for cake.

Inside, Ross blows out the candles for the boys. Holly says she &
Fletch have to get back to Meg, because she's sick. On her way out,
she reminds Rog that he has a fiance to get back to.

Outside, Fletch admits that he actually was bothered by seeing Holly &
Rog together. She says she doesn't intend to wear the ring. Fletch
says it's not the ring. He's seen Holly & Rog together several times
lately & wonders if there's anything going on that he should know
about. Holly denies it vehemently & Fletch is glad to hear it.

Inside, Rog says goodbye to Blake & leaves. Rick asks Blake & Ross if
he can spend a little time with Kevin alone. They say OK, so he takes
Kevin out to the porch.

Blake asks Abby how she's doing. Abby says she can't stop thinking
about the trial, but she doesn't want to upset Rick. She goes back &
forth between being confident & being scared. Blake promises that Rick
is going to wipe up the court with Roy.

Outside, Rick wishes everything wonderful for Kevin. Health, happiness
& all the friends he could ever want. He promises to be there if Kevin
ever needs him. He kisses Kevin, & Kev coos back at him. Ross comes
out & tells Rick that he agrees with Blake about how great it is that
they can all be together for the boys. He thinks today is a perfect
example of how Rick will never be locked out of Kevin's life. They
want him around for all the big events, so Kevin can get to know him.
Rick appreciates it, but isn't sure being a godfather is the best
solution. Ross says it's no picnic for him. Rick doesn't want to talk
about it now. With the trial coming up, he thinks they should put
their differences aside until Roy is behind bars. Ross is disappointed
that Rick doesn't seem to see that he is just doing what's best for
both Kevin & Jason. "So am I," responds Rick.

LEWIS OIL: Reva gets the feeling that Cassie is still holding
something back. Cassie says she doesn't tell people everything; she's
a loner & has never had many friends. Reva thinks it's more than that.
She's really liked Cassie from the start & was thrilled when she found
out for sure that Cassie wasn't the spy. Cassie thinks Reva just likes
to root for the underdog. Reva says it's more that Cassie reminds her
of herself. When she first came to town, she did some things that
weren't very nice, but she meant well.

Marah & Josh arrive, interrupting. Marah wants in-line skates. Reva
agrees, but not until Marah finishes her science project. Josh goes to
order up a banana split for Marah. Cassie misses Tammy terribly & just
wants to get her back. She's done all the wrong things for all the
right reasons. Suddenly, she gives Reva a hug, for having faith in
her. "And don't ever forget it," she adds.

COMPANY: Blake brags to Abby & Rick about Ross' stellar record of
putting bad guys away for a long time. Ross says she shouldn't build
him up too much. One of the twins makes a mess & Blake & Ross bend
down to deal with it. Roy walks in & taps Abby on the shoulder. She
turns around & backs away from him as he says she looks nice today.
She calls out to Rick, who lunges for Roy. Ross holds him back.

Ross tells Roy that he's breaking the law by being there. Roy says
he's just there to meet with his attorney. Rick asks how Roy got out
of jail again. Ross has no idea.

Roy's attorney enters & says good evening to Ross, who recognizes him
as "Ben." Ross asks what he's doing there.

LEWIS OIL: Reva & Josh check the file closet for some office supplies.
Josh actually has other things on his mind. He starts kissing Reva &
says Cassie has reminded him how lucky they are. He wants to start
planning their wedding as soon as the convention is over.

Back in Josh's office, Cassie & Marah eat ice cream. Marah knows
Cassie is the woman who doesn't have her daughter. She says she lived
without her mom for awhile, but they're together again & everything is
fine. She hopes Cassie gets her daughter back soon. So does Cassie.

LOWHAD: Alan returns, having ordered pizza. Annie pulls him into the
hall to tell him what she wants in the future. She wants a real home
with Alan. Alan thinks they'll be a great team & will own all of
Springfield. Annie asks if they have to give Tammy back.

FARMHOUSE: Dinah (now in her negligee) sits blindfolded on the bed
while Hart sets a romantic mood by placing candles all over the room.
He needs matches, so he looks in Dinah's dresser drawer. He finds the
birth control pills. The package is half empty. Dinah asks if she can
peek now. Hart stares at the pills as the screen fades to black.
