GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, NOV. 9, 1995

                      GAMES PEOPLE PLAY DAY
                               -or-
             HIDE & SEEK, PEEK-A-BOO, & LET'S PRETEND

Written by Pete T. Rich and directed by Bruce S. Barry

Highlights:
* Van injects Blake with some spine-juice.
* Josh, Matt, Annie & Marah share some fire-free quality time.
* Amanda steals a page from Van's book of tricks.
* Buzz & Reva bond, much to Alan's chagrin.
* Hawk's apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
* Fletch has a role-reversal nightmare while Holly has an amnio.

BOUTIQUE: Blake is desperately trying to find a sexy, yet tasteful,
dress. Vanessa arrives in response to Blake's urgent summons & asks what
the big problem is. Though they're not the best of friends, Blake says,
they do share a common enemy. "Yes, your dad," replies Van. OK, 2, says
Blake. Blake thinks her marriage is under attack & she wants Van to help
her "out-vamp Vampyra."

ROSS'S OFFICE: Amanda finds the office deserted. She sits on Ross's desk
& surprises him when he enters. He doesn't remember an appointment with
her. She lies that Dolores said it was OK to wait. Ross says he has tons
of work & no time for her. Mandy-poo pouts & begs for his help.

LEWIS LIVING ROOM: Josh & Matt hide their carousel-restoration materials
in the firewood cabinet. Annie & Marah return from shopping & announce
success in finding Marah's flower-girl dress. Annie (suffering from
laryngitis) croaks that the house smells like paint. Josh blames it on
Henry's new cigars. Alan peeks in the window; Marah sees him & screams.

PARK: Buzz recognizes Reva from Goshen & wonders what she's doing in
Springfield. "I can't talk right now," she says, turning away. "It just
hurts too much."

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh & Matt drag Alan inside & tutor him on the fine art of
knocking. Marah disdainfully calls him a "Peeking Tom." Alan says he was
looking for Henry & apologizes to Marah, but Josh doesn't like his con-
descending tone & kicks him out. Outside, Alan wonders where Reva is.
Josh ponders Alan's odd behavior & Annie recalls that Alan recently
asked her about their upcoming marriage & the kids. Josh is puzzled.

SPAULDING: While Alex conducts a business call, Hawk slinks in, wearing
a very proper chauffeur's uniform. He introduces himself as "Hawkins."
Alex laughs, saying he looks like something out of Sunset Blvd. Hawk
doesn't get the reference. Alex says the outfit is ridiculous & he'll
have to find something more suitable. Hawk can't take the uniform back,
since he had it custom-made. Alex says she'll reimburse him, but nearly
swoons when he says he paid $2000 & change. He removes his boot to show
her that it's top-grade cowhide. He says if she wants him to act like
he's her chauffeur, he's got to look the part. All Alex wants is the
dirt on Rebecca, Abigail & Charlotte. She asks what he's learned. "That
there's no pleasing you," he responds. As he leaves to do her bidding,
she tells him that he "cuts a fine figure" in his uniform. After he
leaves, she shakes her head as if wondering what made her say that.

PARK: Buzz walks with Reva, his arm around her shoulder. She hasn't
eaten all day & he offers her a meal at the diner, in repayment for her
hospitality in Goshen. Goshen seems so far away, she says. So much has
happened since she met him there. Buzz tells Reva that he just found out
that Lucy is OK. He wants to share his good fortune. He slips & uses the
word "damn" when referring to Brent, but Reva says he needn't apologize,
since he's on his own turf. Buzz notices the difference in her speech &
attributes it to her being out in the real world. "You're even conjunct-
ing!" he notes. [I think he meant "contracting," but it was funny any-
way.] She explains why she's in town & Buzz guesses that's why she's
upset. He can tell she's upset because her eyes aren't smiling. He's
willing to listen & help. A tear slides down Reva's cheek. She's touched
by his kindness. She thinks maybe he would understand & could help her.

CEDARS: Holly sits cross-legged on the exam table as Fletcher bounds in.
She's nervous about her upcoming amniocentesis. [Is she that far along
already? I thought they didn't do amnios until the 2nd trimester.
Calling all moms with amnio experience--is Cora McGraw, RN falling down
on the job again?] Fletch jumps up on the table & reassures Holly that
an amnio is routine for women her age. Holly still worries she'll be the
1 in 3500 who has a problem. Fletch is sure that Baby Red will get a
clean bill of health. starts running at the mouth because he too is
nervous. Holly's glad he understands. They hug & Holly says when he
holds her, she knows nothing can go wrong. Dr. Sedwick interrupts the
clinch with some judicious throat-clearing.

BOUTIQUE: Van says that while Amanda may be out to get Ross, he's a
reliable, trustworthy guy & Blake shouldn't worry. Blake is worried
about Amanda, not Ross. Van knew Amanda was after Ross from the moment
they met in his office. She's been in Blake's shoes & it's not pretty.
Blake bemoans that this is happening after Ross finally got rid of his
"sorry excuse for a daughter." Oops! Blake apologizes. She can under-
stand that Dinah manipulates out of hurt, but Amanda is cold & calcula-
ting. Blake is worried because her marriage "isn't exactly perfect." Van
says no one's is, but she can see that Blake is upset about something.

Blake reluctantly admits that she & Ross have been trying unsuccessfully
to have a baby for months. "My mother gets pregnant by a man who's had a
vasectomy. She's having a baby & I feel like half the woman than Amanda
is." Van thinks Blake is way more woman than Amanda. Ross could have
married Amanda years ago, but he didn't love her. He loves Blake.

Blake thinks she's experiencing "karmic backlash" for what she did to
her mom. She remembers that if you cheat with a man who's involved with
another woman, & he drops that woman to marry you, you're still marrying
a cheater. Van never thought of Ross that way. What if Amanda went after
Matt? Blake wants Van's help in beating Amanda at her own game. Van
agrees to help Blake "dress to kill." She calls for "everything
delicious in a size 4." [This is SO silly. Since when did Blake become a
fashion don't who needs help dressing? She has a wardrobe full of hugely
sexy clothes. I don't get this AT ALL!]

ROSS'S OFFICE: Ross sifts through papers & tries to ignore Amanda as she
tells him about her job offer at Spaulding, which has not become an
actual job. Ross reminds her that he's done being her white knight. He
already gave her his legal advice, which was to threaten AM with voting
against him at the next board meeting unless he lives up to his end of
the bargain. Amanda wants Ross to go with her, but he won't fight her
personal battles. He leaves for court, advising her to take his advice
or get another attorney. He exits, leaving Amanda alone in his office.
"I don't want another lawyer, Ross," she says. "I want you."

PARK: Reva stares at her plaque & asks Buzz if he's ever looked at his
life & wondered if the people in it would be better off without him.
Yes, indeed. He realized that his family needed him & he needed them.
His philosophy is that life is a bunch of choices. Aside from birth &
death, it's wide open. Reva thinks this makes sense. Buzz senses that
Reva has felt the same kind of pain. She thinks he's very smart. He
invites her to the diner again to discuss life & choices. She takes his
hand, but they run into Alan. Buzz tells Alan to get out of their way.

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh thinks Annie's frog-voice sounds sexy. Marah comes
downstairs in her flower-girl dress [which looks like a nightgown]. Josh
thinks she looks like a beautiful young lady. "I wish your mother could
see you." He gives her a big hug & swings her around. Annie takes Marah
away to change out of the dress. Matt says Josh is really lucky. Josh
knows he's blessed. He asks Matt to be his best man. Matt is touched &
agrees. The men share a manly hug. Annie returns & Josh shares the news.
She suggests building a fire to celebrate. Matt stands in front of the
firewood cabinet & says he doesn't think it's a good idea.

PARK: Alan takes Reva's arm & asks what she's doing with Buzz. Buzz asks
what she's doing with "that pompous old windbag." Reva says Alan came to
Goshen at the end of the summer & Buzz concludes he was "hiding out"
after the business with Brent. He remembers all the questions Reva asked
him. Alan says he heard all of Buzz's lies. Buzz tells Reva that he only
told her half the story about "the creature from the black lagoon"
because he thought she was a lady, but he'll give her the whole scoop.
Alan tells Reva to ignore Buzz. Buzz says Alan is a pathological liar.
Alan grabs Buzz & throws him down on the stone bearing Reva's plaque.

BOUTIQUE: Fashion show to funky music. Blake enters & re-enters, wearing
a variety of costumes, each sillier than the last. One makes her look
like a schoolgirl; another like a palace guard. Some are just boring,
others are downright scary. The expressions on Van's face are priceless.
Finally, Van likes a belted maroon dress with a zipper front. [It
doesn't do much for me as a sexy number, but it would be OK for
Thanksgiving dinner.]

As Blake & Van hug to seal their mutual approval of the dress, Amanda
walks in. She thinks Blake's choice is "brave." Amanda suggests that if
Blake is serious about buying the dress, she can recommend a colorist to
tone her hair down so she won't clash. "She really works wonders,"
Amanda promises. "Can she reattach your hair after I pull it out by its
roots & shove it down your throat?" asks Blake, getting right in Mandy-
poo's face. [Well, if she gets *all* the roots, maybe... Even if she
can't, I'm sure it would be an improvement!]

CEDARS: Dr. Sedwick explains the amnio procedure. Fletcher blanches at
the size of the needle (it's big enough to tranquilize a horse). Holly
asks if he's feeling OK as he faints dead away. They revive him & leave
him resting on the exam table, then head off to another exam room to do
the procedure sans daddy.

BOUTIQUE: Amanda thinks Blake's pent-up anger can't be healthy. Van says
she wouldn't know. Amanda figures it's because Van is "happily married,
again." Van says Blake is too, but it's a pity Amanda doesn't know the
feeling. Amanda apologizes to Blake, saying she was just trying to help.
Blake doesn't need her help, which is just as well, says Amanda, since
she's working at Spaulding now & has so little time. Van thinks she
seems to have far too much time on her hands. Amanda envies Blake all
her free time... nothing to do all day but lunch, shop & wait for Ross.
Blake seethes as Amanda goes off with the saleswoman.

Blake rants that she doesn't know how to play the wronged wife. Van
offers a crash course at Vanessa's Academy for Marriage Preservation.
"If all else fails, I can always fall back on Plan B," says Blake. That
is, show up when Ross least expects it, wearing as little as possible.
Van asks if that works. "I don't know anymore," sulks Blake. Van pumps
her up--she's just got to get over this little bump in the road to her
golden anniversary. They're going to start with her face. Blake asks if
she's wearing the wrong makeup. No, the wrong expression, says Van.

PARK: Reva helps Buzz up from the ground. Buzz promises to send Alan to
the moon as soon as he stops seeing stars. Alan disdainfully tells Reva
that it's obvious Buzz just has a schoolboy crush on her. Buzz says he
understood Rebecca from the moment he saw her. Alan thinks Buzz just
wanted a roll in the hay. Buzz puts up his dukes & Reva has to step
between the men to prevent more fisticuffs.

In a tree, Hawk eats a sandwich while trying to spy on Alan & the
"milkmaid." He raises a spyglass to his eye.

Alan explains about bringing Abigail to Springfield for treatment. Buzz
thinks it odd that Alan brought her to a place where he is universally
hated. The men continue to hurl insults at each other & Reva continues
trying to keep them apart. Hawk continues his Arte Johnson impression.
The focus is off on his spyglass, so he doesn't see Reva's face. He
tries to adjust the focus.

CEDARS: Fletch snuggles up on the exam table and dreams... He's in a
hospital gown on a delivery table. "You're about to make medical
history," says Dr. Sedwick, wearing gown, mask & oven mitts. Holly leans
in & thanks him for sparing her weight gain, morning sickness & stretch
marks. "No wonder I love you so much." "His eyes are dilated 10
centimeters," says the doc. "This can't be happening," protests Fletch.
"It won't hurt any more than pulling your bottom lip over your head,"
Holly assures him. Fletch squeaks with fear. "Please, Miss Holly, I
don't know nuthin' `bout birthin' no babies! This can't be happening!
Please, somebody, help meeeee!!!"

Holly taps him on the shoulder & wakes him, asking if he's all right. He
pulls on his lower lip & marvels that he's not even sore. Holly explains
that he fainted & she has already had the amnio. The procedure went off
without a hitch, but it will be awhile before they get the results. "Was
she wearing oven mitts?" Fletch asks darkly. Holly pushes him toward the
door & he decides the hospital is a bad place to sleep. The world would
have come to an end, he predicts, if God had told Adam that men had to
birth the babies. Holly finds this very profound. Fletch thoughtfully
plays with his lower lip as they leave.

LEWIS HOUSE: Matt & Josh insist that a fire isn't necessary. In fact,
it's impossible. Josh hasn't had the chimney cleaned. Matt suggests hot
cocoa in the kitchen instead. Matt & Marah go on ahead, because "Daddy
wants to kiss Mommy," Marah explains. Josh thinks it's cute that Marah
thinks they want to smooch. "I do," says Annie. She insists that they
will have their fire, dirty chimney or not. Josh protests that there's
no kindling. Annie says she doesn't need any. She lights a candle
instead. They share words of love, but Annie's not sharing her bod no
more until their wedding day. [Sound familiar, Harley fans?] They hug.

PARK: Hawk's got focus now, but he can't see Reva's face because of a
smudge on the glass. He cleans it & tries again, but he loses his
balance & falls, yelling on the way down.

Reva tells the guys to shut up because she thought she heard something.
They guys continue to swipe at each other. Reva complains that she has
enough problems without them. Alan says it's late & he & Reva should go
home. He starts to lead her off, but she stops & walks back toward Buzz,
asking if his offer for a meal at the diner is still open. It is. "We'll
see you... whenever," she tells Alan. Alan stares at them darkly.

SPAULDING: Hawk returns, much disheveled. Alex asks if he's been
drinking, but the only things to pass his lips were a chili dog & a
mouthful of dirt. Alex worries that he wrecked her car & Hawk's insulted
that she's more worried about it than about him, when he's one limp away
from the ER. Hawk says the car is fine, but he had a head-on collision
with the ground, from a tree. "What did you see?" asks Alex. "Blue sky,
a coupla birds, & the earth hurtling towards me..." Alex is more
interested in what he saw *before* he fell. He says he never got to see
the healer's face, but he recognized her hair--beautiful blonde, just
like Reva used to have. He mentions that Buzz was with her & Alex is
very pleased with this news, since Buzz is her dear friend.

PARK: Buzz tells Alan not to wait up. Alan hopes they have fun, &
mentions in passing that everyone in town eventually ends up at the
diner. "No telling who you're going to bump into..." Reva looks con-
cerned as Alan walks away. She tells Buzz she's not really up for
company & she'd like to do it another time. Buzz offers to close early
so they can be alone. Reva decides to go with Alan. Buzz gives her his
number & tells her to call if she needs anything. She thanks him & tells
him he's very nice. Buzz warns Alan that if anything happens to Reva,
"your sister's going to be an only child." Reva smiles at him as he
leaves.

Alan thinks Reva enjoyed having two grown men fighting over her. "Only
2? I certainly have gotten rusty." [Or did she mean Rusty? Nah, he's her
brother. You don't think? Nah.] Smiling, Alan says she's incorrigible.

BOUTIQUE: Blake strides around the room with assurance & Van is pleased
with Blake's new attitude. She has to know that Ross is crazy for Blake
& loves only her. Van makes her repeat, "I'm his woman & he's my man.
He's *all* mine." Blake decides that Vampyra Spaulding had better move
over. "I'm going to vamp Ross like he's never been vamped before." Blake
exits. "You'd better watch out, Ross," smiles Van.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Ross returns, telling himself that he was brilliant in
court & he ought to raise his rates. He turns around to find Amanda
standing behind him, wearing a full-length (fur?) coat. Ross says
they've said all there is to say. "I didn't come to talk, Ross. I came
to show you something." And, voila, she drops the coat & stands there in
her all-together, an early-Vanessa wannabe through-and-through.
"Amanda," says Ross reproachfully. "In the flesh," she replies. She
takes his face in her manicured hands & kisses him full on the mouth as
the screen fades to black.
