GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, NOV. 2, 1995

                ATTACK OF THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER
                              or
WHAT'S EATING THE RESIDENTS OF SPRINGFIELD?

Written by Betsy Tooker-Transom and directed by Bruce S. Barry

Highlights:
* Rick mimes Halloween to a girl who's lived her whole life in costume.
* Blake gets a whiff of Amanda on the prowl.
* Alex imagines gold-diggers behind every bonnet.
* Reva agonizes after seeing Josh & Annie play doctor.

SPAULDING MANSION: Blake arrives, having been invited by Alex to discuss
an arts fund-raiser that Alex is chairing. Alex wants Blake to head a
project to restore a landmark theater that is scheduled for demolition.
Blake, though intrigued, is suspicious. She wonders why Alex has
selected her, since they are not exactly best buddies.

MARLER-AT-LAW: Ross yells at his secretary about some motions, but it's
Amanda who is standing at the door, wearing a sexy black dress with a
plunging neckline. She says Ross is just the man she needs.

CEDARS - ABIGAIL'S ROOM: Hawk, talking to Reva's back, expresses concern
about the poor little deaf girl & says it wasn't his fault--all the
tubes & machines just spooked her "like a filly in a barn fire." He
wonders why the lady in black doesn't answer him. "ARE YOU DEAF TOO?" he
asks loudly. No answer. He walks toward her to see if she's all right.

Reva bites her lip in indecision. Finally, keeping her back to Hawk, she
holds up her hand to indicate that she hears. He backs off, concluding
that she's just shy & wants to keep her distance from the big-city folk.
He tells her how pretty her town is & mentions that he's a good friend
of the Spauldings & he works for Alex. Suddenly, it dawns on him that
this might be the town healer Alan mentioned. He approaches her, telling
her she shouldn't be scared; he just wants to get a look at her.

Just as he is about to turn her around, Lillian shows up & yells at Hawk
to get lost. She pushes him to the door & tells him to stop harrassing
people. Lil goes to call security, leaving Hawk in the room. He
approaches Reva again, but Josh arrives & tells Hawk to leave her alone.
Reva recognizes his voice.

CEDARS OPERATING ROOM: Rick tells Abigail not to be scared. She
recognizes him & is calmed. She smiles. Rick uses some impromptu signing
to remind her of when they met, indicating the big man who hurt his leg.
Abby laughs at his overacting. Rick asks if Abby's there because of the
man, but she points to herself. Rick's lost. Abby brightens, acting like
she too is lost. Rick gets this part of it, but wonders why she's in
town. She tries to explain, but Rick doesn't understand her signs. He
asks where her friends are, but doesn't understand her answer.

He decides to take her to Admitting, where someone will know what to do
with her. When he starts to lead her from the room, she acts frightened,
so he promises to take care of her & not leave. She's still scared &
starts signing again; Rick plays it like a game of charades. He finally
gets that she is scared of the people in the masks & explains that it's
just Halloween & people dress up, but she doesn't really understand why
& is still scared. Rick promises again to take care of her & not let
anything bad happen. She takes his hand & follows him.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Amanda says Alan's back in town. Alex no longer has any
chance of proving he's insane, so the case has been dropped. But Amanda
thinks Alex was also scared of Ross. Amanda hands him a check for his
"trouble." He protests that it's far too much for the little work he's
done, but Amanda's feeling generous, having just cashed her first
Spaulding dividend check. Besides, she's not sure all her legal troubles
are over & wants to retain Ross just in case. Ross is not sure about it.
Amanda ignores this & invites him to dinner. He says it's not possible,
so she amends her invitation to include Blake. Ross says it's not
personal; he just has too much work to do. Amanda doesn't believe him &
asks if she's done something wrong. Ross stares at her cleavage & gulps.

MANSION: Alex admits that she & Blake have had their differences, but
people change. Blake has settled down & married Ross. In fact, Alex
wishes Ross was still Spaulding's legal counsel. But, at least he's
still involved with the family, having been retained by Amanda. Blake
looks surprised, but says she doesn't get involved in Ross's business.
Alex says that's wise & wants to get back to the arts project. Blake
agrees with everything Alex says, but is quite distracted. Alex says
Ross is a lucky man to have such an understanding wife, considering his
& Amanda's past. "It must feel good to be that secure in a marriage."
Blake says it's no big deal, since nothing romantic ever really happened
between Ross & Amanda. Alex agrees, but now Blake doesn't look so sure.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Amanda asks if Ross is acting weird because of their
past. Ross denies that he's acting out of the ordinary. Amanda thought
she & Ross could pick up where they left off. As friends. Ross says that
was then & this is now. Now, his life is totally different. Does that
mean he can't have female friends, or is Blake uncomfortable with that?
Ross says Blake doesn't pick his friends or tell him he can or can't do.
Amanda can't expect to resume her life in Springfield as if time had
stood still. Amanda says since they were never romantically involved,
there's no need to feel awkward. Ross denies feeling awkward. In a hurt
tone, Amanda decides Ross's life is obviously too full for her to be
part of it. She opens the door. Ross stops her & we see a little smile
that says she planned it exactly this way.

CEDARS: Over Hawk's protests, Josh insists that he leave & stop
bothering the lady from Goshen. Ed arrives & gives Hawk more grief. All
through this, Reva keeps her back turned. They finally get rid of Hawk &
Josh reassures her that everything is OK now. Reva doesn't look so sure.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Ross apologizes for his abruptness, claiming a heavy
workload & troubles with Dinah as the cause. Amanda says her offer
holds; she'd still like to have dinner with Ross & Blake. Ross finally
accepts. Amanda suggests the Towers, mentioning that she likes the jazz
there. They agree to meet later. Ross tries to give her back the check,
but she insists that it's a retainer & he's worth every penny. "We may
have won the battle, but the war is still going on." The only reason
Alex didn't kick her out was because Alan showed up. But Amanda is sure
Alex is cooking up some kind of revenge. Ross thinks she's probably
right. Amanda's not worried because she has Ross. Ross stares at the
check as it fades into a hearty fire burning on the hearth at the...

MANSION: Alex explains that Blake's duties will be raising funds &
working with the architects to restore the theater. Blake's not really
listening & finally reopens the subject of Ross & Amanda. She wonders
why Alex thinks they were romantic. Alex heard that it was Amanda's
choice not to get involved. She doesn't think it's very surprising--
after all, Amanda is a beautiful woman. Besides, maybe what Alex heard
wasn't really the truth, even if it did come "straight from the horse's
mouth." Alex gathers that Amanda played the victim & Ross came running
to the rescue. "She's very good at that & she just kept sucking him in,
time after time." Blake thinks Ross isn't so gullible. Alex says Ross is
a good man & Amanda took advantage. Blake accuses Alex of inviting her
over to hurt her with this. Alex says Blake's being paranoid & she has
no reason to hurt Blake. She's sure Blake & Ross have already dissected
the situation to death anyway. She assures Blake that she's happily
married & has nothing to worry about. Blake agrees, and leaves.

[Note: It was my impression during the Alex/Blake scenes that while Alex
may have had an ulterior motive, it was not to make her paranoid about
Ross & Amanda. I think she was more interested in buddying up to Blake &
thus getting info about Amanda's legal strategy re: Spaulding.]

ABIGAIL'S ROOM: Josh calls Reva "ma'am" & apologizes for Hawk's tendency
to poke his nose where it doesn't belong. He admits to having been
related to the man, & assures her that he's a pain, but harmless. Josh
asks if she's OK & Reva gets this goofy smile on her face, but doesn't
answer. Josh understands she must be upset & can relate because his
daughter was recently very sick, but was saved by a miracle. Tears run
down Reva's face as she listens to the story. Josh is sure everything
will work out for her too.

Rick & Lillian arrive with Abigail, who runs to Reva & hugs her. Rick
says he found Abby in the operating room. Lil tells Rick that Abby is in
for tests & was scared by Hawk. Abby rejoins Lil & Rick. Alan arrives &
Josh leaves, his distaste evident. Alan is pleased that they found Abby.
Reva hides in the corner. Lil leaves. Alan says he brought Abby in to
see a neurologist & suggests that Rick tell her mother that she's been
found. Rick tells Alan to tell her, since he's the one who knows her.
Alan thinks she'd be more reassured by a doctor. Rick promises Abigail
that he'll come back to see her & takes her hand before he leaves.

Alan gives Reva an I-told-you-so, but she ignores him & checks on
Abigail, who is entranced by Dr. Rick. Alan worries that someone saw
Reva, but she assures him no one did. She makes Abby promise to stay in
her room & assures her that she is safe. Reva decides it's time to leave
& promises to meet Alan at the house. He warns her to be careful.

In the hall, Ed gives Hawk what-for. Hawk explains that Alex sent him on
a "mission of mercy." Ed doesn't want to hear it: "I don't want to see
you in this hospital again unless you are ill, unconscious, or in the
morgue!" Josh watches with interest. Ed orders Hawk out. Hawk promises
to talk with his lawyer. On his way out, he accuses Josh of putting Ed
up to this. Josh just laughs & tells Ed he was impressive. Ed goes to
his office & Josh spots Annie. He tells her Rick found Abby & comments
on the healer who was so shy she wouldn't even look at him. Annie says
they're a very tight community. Josh thinks Abby has a little crush on
Rick. Annie says she's not alone.

Since Annie just started her shift, she can't leave yet, so Josh
complains of pain & insists he needs a "thorough examination." Annie
says she can't play doctor, since she's a nurse, but Josh manages to get
her alone in an exam room. Reva walks over & peers in through the glass.
Josh & Annie are kissing. Reva starts to push open the door.

MANSION: Hawk tells Alex that he spoke to Abigail & saw the girl from
Goshen. Alex wants to know if she's involved with Alan. Before he tells,
Hawk wants to renegotiate his salary. He wants $75 more per week, a VCR
in his room & cable TV with 3 movie stations. Alex agrees. Hawk thinks
it highly unlikely that Abigail is involved with Alan. Alex wants to
know more. Hawk holds out for a cell phone, then finally tells Alex the
deaf girl is like a daughter to Alan. Alex wonders why he brought her to
Springfield for treatment when he could have taken her anywhere. Hawk
says there's more to it--Alan also brought the blonde healer with him.

CEDARS: Reva listens as Josh tells Annie that he's never felt this way
about anyone. Reva looks disturbed & leaves.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Blake skips in & tells her hubby that she loves being
married to the most wonderful, gorgeous, sexy guy in the world & she
doesn't want him to ever think she doesn't appreciate him. Meanwhile,
she jumps in his lap & starts molesting him. She suggests an impromptu
romantic dinner for 2 with take-out. Ross tells her about their dinner
plans with Amanda. "She's very anxious to get to know you," says Ross.
Blake jumps out of his lap. "Not a chance in hell," she swears.

MANSION: Alex wants to hear about the blonde. Is she the kind of woman
who might manipulate Alan & go for all his money? "Might could," answers
Hawk. Alex is disgusted that Alan fell for "that healer nonsense" &
wonders if he's in love with her. "Might could," replies Hawk again.
Alex thinks he's holding out for more goodies & is fed up. Maybe he
wants a Jacuzzi or a vibrating armchair? Hawk perks up at the latter
suggestion, but Alex tells him to forget it. [ROTFL!] She insists on the
scoop on the blonde. Hawk says she didn't talk to him & he didn't even
get a good look at her face. But he's sure she's a real slippery
character. Alex is incensed that this is all the info he got.

Amanda enters the room, her hair pulled back into a scary Star-Trek do.
Now she's wearing a white dress, with a not-quite-as-plunging neckline.
She apologizes for interrupting, but Alex says it's only her soon-to-be-
ex-chauffeur. She gives Amanda the once-over & asks, "What are you all
done up for? And who are the lucky people you plan to do it to?"

ROSS'S OFFICE: Blake refuses to spend the evening with Amanda. Ross says
it's just a business dinner with a client. Blake says it's more. Amanda
is an ex-something-or-other. Ross says he told Blake all about Amanda.
"You didn't tell me you were crazy about her." Ross admits there could
have been something platonic... Blake wishes he'd told her--why did she
have to hear it from someone else? Ross says she's overreacting. Didn't
he have to tolerate the "curly-headed Spaulding kid"? Her ex-husband,
with whom she continued to have "little slips"? Blake says Ross is the
thickest man in the world. "Thank you, pumpkin," smiles Ross. ;-) Blake
can't believe he expects her to spend an evening with a woman who wants
to reignite an old flame. Blake says Ross should go ahead without her &
just say that she had a prior commitment. Ross reluctantly agrees, but
accuses Blake of being insanely jealous.

ALAN'S HOUSE: Reva stalks in, agitated. She's mad at Josh for telling
Annie he never felt that way about anyone else. "What about me? What
about always?!" Alan follows her in & asks her what's going on. She
cries, but says it's nothing. She doesn't want his help. Alan asks what
Josh said to her. She says he was very sweet, when he thought she was a
distressed farm woman. She remembers the story about Marah, & how she
wanted to turn around & tell him that it was their little girl, who she
loves as much as he does. Alan is concerned that she might have talked
to Josh. She didn't, but she wanted to. She thought for a moment they
might have it all back again. She wanted to take a leap of faith & risk
everything to tell him the truth. "Joshua & I worked so long & so hard
trying to find each other. We went to hell & back for each other. Why
not do it again?!" Alan sits beside her & asks her to tell all.

She recounts how she followed Josh to the exam room & just as she was
getting ready to walk in & tell him everything, she saw that he was with
Annie, "going at it hot & heavy." She remembers all the things Josh said
to Annie & feels just awful. Alan holds her close & promises to take her
away so she can start a new life. "I think now is the right time. Right
now." Reva sobs softly into his (clothed, thank goodness) chest.

ROSS'S OFFICE: "I'm not jealous; I'm right!" insists Blake. She knows
how other women look at Ross. Amanda is on the prowl & Ross is her
target. Ross thinks she's overreacting. "If you say one word about
raging hormones, I swear I'll kill you!" Besides, she reminds him, they
promised not to spring stuff on one another. Ross says if she doesn't
want to go, he'll make an excuse. Blake says Amanda will think it's
because of her. "Honey, it *is* because of you," points out Ross. Blake
sees the $5000 check & thinks it's a pretty hefty fee. Ross says it's a
retainer. Blake thinks it'll come in handy if they hit the baby jackpot.
She decides they should make nice to Amanda & both go to dinner.

MANSION: Amanda tells Alex she's having dinner with Ross. She hopes to
do some catching up & thinks it will be fun. Alex says not to count on
it, but pretends she's talking about poor service at the Towers. Amanda
pulls out $50 & says she's returning some money she borrowed the other
day. Alex accepts it with a touch of surprise & Amanda departs.

Hawk laughs that it's obvious Alex can't stand her niece. Alex tells
Hawk to go find out everything he can about the woman from Goshen.

ALAN'S HOUSE: Alan says they'll fly away this very night, but she
refuses to cut & run. "I'm not leaving. I'm staying." Alan watches her
climb the stairs as the screen fades to black.
