			Guiding Light Update

				for

			Tuesday, November 29

===============================================================================

The camera pans through the Ed Bauer museum. The wall is covered with
plaques (Citizen of the Year, e.g.), a Norman Rockwell, and a picture of an
older woman (Bert Bauer?). Now we see a picture of Eve and Ed, and of
Michelle, and then of a stethoscope. Ed's hand enters the picture; he picks
up the stethoscope slowly. Eve comes in the room and grabs him. She didn't
even know he was back. Yes, he's out on bail, finally. Eve is thrilled. His
incarceration reminds her of her own. But everything is okay. Then she notices
he is packing. Why?

Alan and Vanessa:

Alan is pleased as he hands her the document to sign. He rattles on
about getting his possessions back and "you are doing the right thing, Vanessa".
Vanessa fiercely retorts "Put away your pen. I'm not signing now. Not ever."

Holly and Roger at the Country Club:

The dynamic duo are getting the power waiter treatment. Roger promises
he won't say the "S" word [Spaulding, shame on you] and that he "Only has
eyes for her" [she-bop, she-bop]. Holly is pleased, and a big smile plays on
her face.

Alex:

Alex is going through her glasses. She is furious that Alan found the
only glass that had a chip in it. Mindy comes in, and Alex rattles on about
where she's been and how Nick has been worried. And ends with a threat about
she and Fletcher. Mindy says "tell him whatever you like, I don't care anymore".
She goes into her room, and Nick rushes in after her. Mindy grabs a suitcase
and Nick acutely says "Are you leaving me?"

------------------Spin Lighthouse, Spin!-----------------------------------

Ed and Eve:

Ed is going to take a leave of absence. He doesn't know how long the
trial will go on, etc. Eve doesn't understand the need for that. Ed explains
that he is sure he is going to prison, and he thinks that would not be the
best for Cedars. They look at a med school picture, and Ed rhapsodizes about
the dreams of the people then. Eve says not to betray them, then. "Don't give
up."

Roger and Holly:

They are doing a little kissing in public. It's just like being back
in High School, behind the bleachers, Roger says. But he "wishes they'd
all been you, Holly". More kissing. She says she doesn't need champagne and
caviar. But he does. He says he thinks of it as "destiny, not need". "The
rich may not have more fun, but they certainly have more choices." Fletcher
comes in and drops by the lovebird table. He has come to be sarcastic and to
finish his editorial about the media's drubbing of Dr. Ed Bauer. Seems he
can't work at home.

Alan and Vanessa:

Alan is confused as to why Vanessa stopped by. She explains that she
just came to tell him he was right about Alex and Nick. But the truth is she
couldn't care less who has Spaulding. Alan senses an "implied threat". Sure
enough. Vanessa will destroy Spaulding (for the crimes against the Lewises)
if need be. Alan is impressed, and credits Matt in a backhand slap. Vanessa
reminds Alan he is a "cold and vicious man, and because of that he will
always be alone".

Nick and Mindy:

Mindy doesn't want to give Nick a chance to explain. She gave him
plenty of chances and all he did was give her Spaulding double-talk. Up
until a few hours ago, she would have listened to him, would have believed
him, but not anymore. Nick wonders where she went yesterday: "The new house,
right?" Mindy nods yes. "I got a big dose of truth there. You don't love me."
"Not true, a lot is true, but that isn't." "You turned me into a trophy
wife, you turned into a Spaulding." Nick says it was just a business
strategy. This infuriates Mindy. "I warned you once never to make me choose
between you and my family, and you ignored me." She starts to go.

Ed and Eve:

Eve is still sure he is innocent. She just wants Ed to believe in
himself. They yell a bit, and turn the conversation to Michelle. Bill and
a few friends are standing by her, but it's difficult. They miss him.
Lillian enters [without knocking, naturally] and introduces a new nurse
that Rick has sent to Cedars. (This nurse assumes Eve is also a nurse, oops.)
Lillian reminds Ed of a fund raiser in a few days and tries to convince him
he needs to go. Ed says that he can't supply the necessary leadership, but
Lillian says that Ed is the only one who feels that way. Lillian goes, and
Eve asks "the leave of absence is just temporary, right?" No. Ed is going to
hand in a letter of resignation.

Mindy and Alex:

Mindy is flying out, suitcase in hand. Alex is still fooling with
the glasses, but seeing Mindy turns to her. "I suppose this means you're
leaving?" "Yeah, that's right." "First good news I've heard all morning."
Mindy isn't even phased by this. She's happy not to pretend anymore. "I despise
you and you despise me. (Alex feigns surprise.) You turned Nick into a
Spaulding." "So, you are going to run away again?" Alex says that of course
Nick has changed. He's grown, he knows who he is and what he wants. Mindy
just couldn't keep up with him. This break up is for the best. Nick will get
over it. "In your family", Mindy says, "that's just the price of doing
good business." Mindy leaves, Nick enters.

Vanessa:

Vanessa holds her aching head. Matt comes in, wearing a brown leather
jacket that makes a lot of noise. He worries about her, and she treats him
like a child, telling him about the "bad guys" in the world. She wishes
there was no one else in the whole wide world but them. They kiss, and there
is a knock on the door [unbelievable, somebody knocks!]. Henry joins them
and talks about HB's little woman. He sees Matt and smiles. "I never met a
Reardon I didn't like." Matt compliments his bow-tie, and Henry says the
"tie is older than you". He reminds Vanessa that she gave it to him, and she
petulantly says "it was not that MANY years ago". She tries to get pops out
the door, but he has something to tell Matt. "I've been meaning to tell you
how much I've been impressed with what you did in Vanessa's bedroom."
Vanessa hides her head, and Matt smiles. She finally kicks him out, and Bill
calls. She deals with his newest tragedy and hangs up the phone. "Now,
where were we?" "Alone in the world, just the two of us." "Gosh, that sounds
nice." "Not to me. I don't know if I can settle for that anymore."

Alex and Nick:

Alex, in her best Spaulding says to Nick, "She just left. I tried to
stop her." Nick is having an identity crises and his mother is in his way.
He wonders how he "lost his conscience", and Alex is mortified. A Spaulding
President can not show this kind of "weakness". No one was hurt by their
maneuvering, so what's the big deal. But Nick says someone was hurt, and Alex
tries to throw in the Fletcher revelation. He doesn't believe it for a second
and is really losing his composure. Alex tries to put the whole thing in
perspective. "Mindy gets hysterical sometimes." Nick can't take anymore and
he just leaves.

Holly and Roger:

Roger is attempting a Lindsay-seduction. He is rolling. He whispers
something in her ear, and she is successfully seduced. But then, naturally,
his cellular phone rings. It's Alex and of course he agrees to go to her. Holly
is beyond shocked. Roger again says that Alex is the key to their happy future
and she just has to put up with it a little longer. He goes and Fletcher
watches Holly.

Ed and Eve:

Eve says she won't allow Ed to resign. He says he needs to face the
consequences of his actions. Eve simply asks that he not do anything rashly.
Ed looks at her and says "Would you just hold me?" They hug and Fletcher's voice
is heard. He talks about how the media has judged Dr. Ed Bauer before the
trial. That he is guilty before being proven innocent, etc. [Is this some
kind of OJ reference?]

Fletcher and Holly:

Fletcher is reading his article to Holly but Holly isn't paying much
attention. It occurs to Fletcher that she is probably thinking of the Dodge.
He reminds her of all the times he has recently seen her being stood up by
her man. She tells him to shut up.

Fletcher goes to the bar where Nick joins him. Fletch is completely
friendly and open to him, and Nick tells him the whole story. Fletcher tells
him about Mindy's appearance at his door, and Nick hopes she might have said
something to Fletcher about what he could do. "How did I get so far off-track",
Nick wonders. Fletcher says it's just the Spaulding disease. All Spauldings
have it for some time. [He doesn't mention Phillip, but he had it too.]
Nick says he has finally got the message. Fletcher tells him the only safe thing
is to get out of the family business. His mother will be angry, but she will
forgive him. "Is that going to save my marriage?" Fletcher isn't promising
anything, but he thinks that being Nick McHenry again will help.

Alex and Roger:

Alex is showing a lot of weakness. She is worried about her son and
about Vanessa. Roger says there is nothing to worry about, that both she
and Chrissy will never sign. Alex hates Alan. She would kill him if she could.
He has chased away all of her friends. "I'm still here," Roger says
chillingly. "Don't think that that irony is lost on me," Alex says. Roger says
that maybe they are becoming friends again. Alex thinks she will never have
another relationship again. She has ruined them all. "Present company
included." "Let me take the credit for that. I spoiled it. You are an attractive
vital person. I don't want you thinking otherwise." [At that point, lightning
struck the set and the show ended, but I will pretend it continued.] Alex
looks into his eyes.

Vanessa and Matt:

Matt has thought about why they are a secret to everyone. He's
decided he wants to be able to be with her in both the bad times and the
good. "Lighten up, it hasn't been so terrible." But Matt refuse to. He
tries to get her to see it from his place, and she realizes that keeping him
a secret can't feel to good for him. Mindy comes in, obviously upset. She
asks to move back home for a while, and then leaves. Matt thinks it's time
to go, but she doesn't want him to. She grabs her stuff and they dart out
the door.

Alan:

The man has had one rough day. In fact, it has been one miserable
day for the Spaulding's all around.

Alex and Roger:

Alex thinks he should get back to Holly. Roger agrees, if she will be
all right. Yes, and what he said was sweet. "Who knew you'd turn out to be such
a nice man. " [Bang!!!! There it goes again. Geez.] Roger checks to see she
has left and calls Holly at the bar. "Alex is a mess. Just bear with me a
little longer." Holly complains that she is sick of hearing that. Roger
continues to argue for patience, and Alex overhears him say that Alan will
be dead in two months. [Hopefully, this means she never bought any of his
spiel.]

Ed in his near-empty office, with a typewriter:

He leaves a note on his desk. He closes the last few boxes, looks
around and leaves. The camera moves to the empty chair. And then to the
piece of paper. Fade out.
