INDECISION RAINS ON BUZZ AND DEENIE'S PARADE:

Buzz hears on the radio that there is a big cold front coming
through, and Buzz worries about the state of the pipes. Buzz is
having second thoughts about leaving, but Nadine encourages him
to go. They agree to take off before anyone sees them so they
can avoid sad goodbyes. However, Frank, Eleni and Marina catch
them leaving, sure that Buzz and Nadine would never leave without
saying goodbye to them.

Buzz and Nadine deny trying to leave without saying goodbye.
Frank and Eleni don't buy it,and Buzz confesses that they were
leaving. Buzz and Nadine say they couldn't take the sad
goodbyes. Eleni and Frank chew them out about sneaking out.
Frank tells them he tried to convince them that they really
didn't want to leave by having the party for them and acting like
he didn't care if they left. Buzz is clearly having second
thoughts, but Nadine tries to get him to go. Nadine starts
getting desperate as she sees Buzz caving in (he insists on
fixing the pipes in the Diner). As Buzz fixes the pipes, Eleni
wants to know what Nadine isn't telling her about. Nadine says
she's trying to keep Buzz from finding out something, and takes
off. She runs in to Carroll as she's leaving the Diner and he
informs her that he just quit Lewis Oil this morning and won't be
seeing her much anymore. Nadine wants to know why he quit. He
acts like she should know, and when she says she doesn't, he
tells her he's beginning to think that she's the "ditz that
everyone says you are!" An exasperated Nadine leaves to put the
suitcases in the car.

Marina and Frank "help" Buzz fix the pipes. Frank pretends
Marina wants to know if Buzz will reconsider and stick around.
Frank gets serious and tells Buzz how much it means to him to
have Buzz back in his life. He doesn't want to see Buzz walk out
the door again. Buzz says he doesn't want to leave Frank, the
family or the Diner, but feels like he owes it to Nadine to have
a fresh start. He promises to be back when things "work out."
Frank says to forget it (to which Marina says "No!"), if that is
what Buzz and Nadine need to make things work, he should go.
Fank goes out to the public part of the Diner and learns from
Eleni that Nadine has gone off, upset.

Carroll follows Nadine to the park and apologizes for calling her
a ditz. Nadine says she deserves it, that everyone is mad at
her. She goes on and on, and to shut her up, Carroll plants a
big kiss on her lips.

Nadine wants to know why he did it, and he says it was to let her
know that he isn't mad at her. He says he knows she's a married
woman, even though it is only technically. He tries to tell her
that she deserves better; she deserves some happiness. She says
she doesn't deserve anything and says she's done too many bad
things. Carroll says that she's perfect to him, and that if Buzz
doesn't realize it, he's crazy. He tells Nadine she's very
special to him. After speaking his mind, he leaves, leaving a
stunned Nadine behind.

Nadine transports back to the Diner, where she tells Buzz that it
isn't going to work. Buzz is sick of hearing that, and begs her
to go. She tries to tell him something, but he tells her to save
it for the road. They leave.

I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR:

Tangie shows up at Alan's to find out why he is playing games
with her.

Alan tells Tangie he's never played games with her, but she
doesn't buy it. They discuss all Alan's enemies and whether or
not she believes all the stories she's heard about Alan. She
knows she's being manipulated, but she isn't so sure that Alan's
as evil as everyone says. Talk turns to A-M, and Tangie is upset
that Alan told A-M about knowing Tangie and twisted everything
around. Tangie just wants Alan to know that she is her own
woman. She will no longer cover for Alan or play any games for
him. Alan is glad because he can now tell her how he truly feels
about her.

Alan pours out his heart to Tangie about a bond that he felt with
her. Tangie says Alan is making it almost impossible to remain
his friend. Alan tries to make her feel guilty by saying that if
she had told him way back that A-M was the injured friend of
hers, things would be different. Tangie sees through Alan and
tells him that she's glad that she and A-M had the time to become
so close. She does not wish away her feelings for A-M. She
warns Alan that A-M wants a relationship with Alan very badly,
but that such a relationship would be very fragile and easily
broken. Tangie doesn't want to cause a breach between them.
Alan denies that she is a problem between them. Tangie doesn't
buy it. Alan says he only wants the best for A-M and for Tangie.
Tangie jsut wants to keep her freedom. Alan hopes she doesn't
mean their friendship is over, but Tangie isn't sure. She
doesn't know how far away from him she needs to be to keep from
feeling trapped. After Tangie leaves, an upset Alan phones Jenna
and says he'll marry her.

Meanwhile, Alan-Michael enters the newsroom at the Journal to
find Fletch freezing to death at a computer terminal.
Apparently, the boiler is acting up, meaning no heat at the
Journal. Alan-Michael is concerned about the media circus that
Ed's arrest has become. A-M wants the Journal to do something.
Fletcher shows A-M an editorial he has written about the media
lynching of Ed. Fletcher seems to be highly annoyed with A-M's
presence. He offers to take a message to give to Tangie.

Later, Tangie comes in to work, and a cranky Fletcher snips at
her about the lack of heat in the building and her relationship
with the Spaulding clan. Tangie runs off (I think to find a
sweater?), and A-M comes back to see if Fletch has finished the
editorial. Fletch jumps down A-M's throat and storms off. A-M
spies Tangie and goes over to talk to her. She gives him the
cold shoulder and tells him she doesn't feel like talking. A-M
tries to "foster management-employee relations", and Tangie hands
him letters to put in the mailboxes. A confused A-M follows her
orders.

Tangie tells A-M that he's sorting the mail wrong. A-M says she
reminds him of his 3rd grade teacher (from the 10 minutes he was
in 3rd grade, right?). He talks about how he hasn't learned
anything; he keeps making mistakes, especially with Tangie. He
tells her she's beautiful, but says that is an off-limits topic
of discussion today. He wants ot know what they can talk about.
He suggests her past, and asks about her school days. To shut
him up, she kisses him and tells him to aks her out on a date.

WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN-HEARTED?

Jenna arrives at Alan's to discuss the "marriage" arrangements.
She sees Alan is in a bad mood. She gets down to business. Alan
will be providing her baby with a father and a legal name, and
she will be there to make Tangie feel like Alan no longer has
designs on her. After the baby is born, Jenna will divorce him.
Tangie can console Alan's "broken heart." Alan decides the plan
won't work; it was conceived in desperation -- both hers and his.

Jenna denies that the plan was conceived out of desperation. She
wants to know why Alan is upset. He thinks he was a fool to
think he could come back to Springfield and get back his old
life. Jenna says he'll never get back his last five years, but
that they can build something for the future. Alan tells her
that all his plans are ruined and that she should get away while
she can. Jenna sees that it is a brush off and tells him to go
to hell.

I'M GONNA WASH THAT MAN RIGHT OUT OF MY HAIR:

Mindy looks at the plans for the home of "Mr. and Mrs. Nick
Spaulding" that are hanging on the wall (Gee, for someone who
despises the Spaulding name, she sure was happy to be "Mrs. Nick"
there for a while). She rips them up and cries.

Much later, Fletcher arrives home to find Mindy on his doorstep.
She starts to cry and he holds her. (Uh oh, Nick, your days are
numbered! hee, hee!) He invites her in and gives her coffee
with brandy in it (So much for Mindums being a recovering
alcoholic...I guess she's just a "different person" now ;)). She
tells Fletch she went out to the house site, and tried to picture
what it would look like to live there, and she couldn't see
anything except nails and broken dreams. She tells Fletch that
she's lost Nick. She asks Fletch if she can stay with him for
awhile while she sorts things out. He kind of reluctantly
agrees, since Nick is his best friend (not for long!), but says
that Mindy is his friend, too. He makes her promise not to make
any rash decisions, and to take a long, hot bath. She thanks him
for being a good friend.

Post run-in with Vanessa (see below), Nick looks for Mindy at the
construction site. He finds one of her gloves, and yells for her
(Gee, I might feel sorry for him if he didn't completely deserve
it).

At Fletch's, Alex interrupts his writing, to let him know she's
lost Nick. He wants to know why he's the repository of every
Spaulding problem. He tells Alex he has work to do and tries to
get her to leave. Meanwhile, Mindy comes downstairs dressed only
in a towel. Alex sees her and is stunned, but also looks evilly
pleased. Mindy looks upset that Alex has caught her.

DON'T MESSA WITH 'NESSA:

Alex eats breakfast as Nick looks for Mindums. She hasn't come
home from last night, and he's worried about her. Vanessa enters,
overhearing Nick, and tells him it is a little too late to worry
because the damage has been done. Nick expresses concern about
Mindy, but Vanessa basically poo-poos his concern and takes him
to task for the way he's treated Mindy. Nick plays clueless
(what an ass!). Alex butts in and wants to know what is going
on. Alex assumes that Vanessa is there because she has agreed to
not sign back Alan's assets in return for Spaulding bailing out
Lewis Oil from the mess they've "fallen into". Vanessa calls
their bluff and continues to scold Nick for becoming just like
Alexandra. Alex wants to know if Vanessa is with them or not.
Vanessa says "not" as she holds up the contract that Nick signed
to bankrupt Lewis Oil. Vanessa says, "you're some piece of work,
Nick." (Go Vanessa! Hooray, the jerk might possibly get what's
coming to him!)

Vanessa turns the tables on Nick and Alex and threatens to go to
the police and the Federal Banking Authority about the
"extortion". Vanessa warns that Nick could get 3 to 5 years for
his trick and should think about enjoying his time at Carollton
(the prison everyone gets sent to). (Yeah, Vanessa! Gee, can
you tell I'm enjoying this turn of events?)

Alex thinks Vanessa is bluffing. Vanessa scolds Alex for drawing
Nick into the poison that is Spaulding business. She then scolds
Nick for what he did to Mindy. Nick claims he's sorry and never
meant to hurt anyone. Vanessa says she assumes that Lewis Oil is
out of trouble (though she's hanging on to the contract, just in
case ;)), and Nick agrees to call th bank in the morning. Alex
pleads with Vanessa to stick together. After Vanessa leaves, an
upset looking Nick says he can't believe he let this happen and
goes to find Mindy. (Too late!!!!!!) Alex tries to stop him.

Following her run-in with Alex and the Dick, Vanessa visits Alan
to talk about his assets.

That's it!
