Subject: GL: Godzilla Lite Update (WED) 941123
Status: R

   Dear GL'ers:

Please excuse Lance posting the Wed. Update on Friday instead of
early Thursday morning.
He was helping me stuff a turkey on Thanksgiving, one thing led to
another, and, um........er......well, let's just say we're REALLY good
friends now!
[...still don't understand how my panties
made it into the pumpkin pie, though... ]

And for the record, Fiona can act the sox off Claire Beckman any day
of the week.

   Sincerely,

   LIZ KEIFER

   Alan's Lair.
Jenna shows up at the door decked out in a replica of an old
"Pilgrim's Wife" hat. Name for the day? "Goody" Bradshaw: "...that means
'good wife', Alan..."
Some cider, some chit-chat at the table (Alan lies, and insists that
_he_, not Buzz, was responsible for getting Alex to drop the lawsuit
against Jenna) and the Jen-ster gets down to brass tacks. She proposes
marriage to Alan as a solution to both their problems!
[A cover for her pregnancy, and it will make Tangie
jealous and ripe for the picking after their quickie divorce.]

   Matriarch Mansion.
With Mindy and Nick off to the boarding house, Alexandra is left
"alone" for the holiday. She gives Donna instructions to prepare to
serve one, and takes her sorry butt to the dining room.
While she's moodily slurping soup, Alan strolls in, picks up the
serving bell and masterfully rings it, assuming his position at the head
of the table!
Without words, brother and sister prepare to dine together (Donna
serving), and raise glasses of wine in toast, accompanied only by smiles
(and I'll leave it to the reader to figure out whose was the broadest ;)) ).

On the steps of the brownstones.
Tangie comes semi-clean about her earlier relationship with Alan, and
AM has a hard time understanding why she didn't come clean from the get-
go. The implication is that she and Al had a romantic relationship,
which Tangie vigorously denies (1).
AM turns down a dinner invite at Ross and Blake's (understandably
[:)]), kisses T's hand, and departs.

Ross and Blake's Palace of Delights.
The 1st Thanksgiving that the Dynamic Duo are celebrating as husband
and wife. They agree to put the "possible disbarrment due to Alexandra's
missing escrow account" discussion on hold for the day (2).
Ding-dong! Roger and Holly. H has brought a squash casserole. The
Dodger is bearing a complete, personal carving set --- knives sharpened
(Ross: "Which one of us are you going to use those on, Roger??). :)
Holly and Blake jump Rog for taking the hard line on WSPR vs Ed's
problem, but the convo is tabled in the spirit of the holiday.

Tangie arrives with a floral centerpiece and is warmly welcomed (when
Rog, Holly and Ross beat it to the kitchen to check on the food, T
brings Blake up-to-speed on the AM situation, and Blake issues another
dire warning against Alan --- which is overheard by a returning Roger).
Prior to chow-down, Roger is seated between Tangie and Holly, and
demands to be seated at the head of the table [!]. When Ross asks by
what right, Rog produces the razor sharp carving knife. Seats are
switched. :))
Blake enters with bad news: she forgot to take the foil tent off the
bird, so instead of being browned, it's "blonde". Back to the trenches,
and a big delay in mealtime. :)
Folks start chowing down on rolls and carrots. Tangie yells into the
kitchen that "people are starving out here, and the gentlemen wouldn't
mind a 'blonde'. :)
   Blake: (marching into living room)
"I'm going to serve a brown turkey if it kills me!"
   Ross: (chuckling)
           "Welcome to 'Thanksgiving Hell'..."

Things get so bad, Holly starts reading a book, Ross falls asleep at
the table, and the Dodger playfully chucks an hors d'ouvre at him as
antidote. :)

   The Diner.
Buzz, Frank, Nadine, Lucy, Eleni, Marina and Stavros celebrate the
holiday in the restaurant. Hamp stops by briefly with some Strange
Towers Food (oysters in seaweed, etc.), and a large white "tocque"
(chef's hat) for Buzz. Negroes #2 and 3, Sid and Gilly, also make an
appearance (Gilly hugs Nadine good-bye big-time, expressing a bit of
disappointment that her WSPR show will thus be cancelled).
Short story: Caroll slides in to the table just as Buzz begins to say
the blessing. The Buzz-man notes that he's "...thunderstruck that
everything he needs is here...in this diner...".

   Comapny's Boarding House.
Van (3) arrives early for Thanksgiving dinner, and gets in a quick
smooch and some lovers' chat with Matt (who is making the kitchen user-
friendly for Dylan by applying stickers of various shapes all about).
Dylan strolls down from upstairs with his guitar, announces he just
wants to be treated like everyone else, and heads for the porch.
Gilly and Sid stop by on the way to her parent's house (and the
Horrors of Dinner With Vivian) and try to buck-up the Dyl-ster.

Josh, Bill, Mara, Shayne, HB, Hamp, Henry, Mindy (4), "My Name Is Nick
Spaulding, dammit!", Peter and Jet join the festivities in short order.
Bill takes his mom on the back stairs for a confab, and confesses
that Michelle couldn't make it because she didn't want to be around
everyone while they were feeling sorry for her (with Ed in jail, etc.).
To paraphrase the boy, "When parents fuck up, it's the kids who often
take the hits...".

Mindy also corners Vanessa on the back stairs, and tearfully lays out
the 4-1-1 on Nick's treachery. When Mindums dramatically reaches into
her bosom and produces the bank contract signed by her husband, Van's
jaw drops a good two feet (5).
There's trouble in River City; that's a capital C, rhymes with
jackass and stands for mama's boy. :)

Dylan (post-porch pep talk from HB) feels his way to the table (Bill
carries his guitar) just as HB prepares to carve the bird, and bows his
head to join the family blessing.

   Notes
   -----

(1)
Found an interesting quote from A Martinez concerning the Light and
Marcy Walker (another Maria Hart column):
"...I still keep my finger on all the soaps. Some of it is wonderful,
some of it terrible. I watched [former co-star) Marcy Walker the other
day doing a scene with Rick Hearst [Martinez pauses], and I was
mesmerized. [To come back] I'd have to find a character who was worth it
and the writers who could write him..."

(2)
Ross may be able to prove forgery on the escrow release by having the
signature analysed for stereotypical "pressure patterns", and the
results compared to his signature on other Spaulding documents.
Also, analysis of the bank's routine security videocam footage may
turn up behavioral anomalies (gum chewing, wrong hand used to sign,
etc.) on FauxRoss' part.

(3-4)
Maeve Kinkead and Barbara Crampton were wearing well-tailored suits -
-- with _really_ short skirts [!] Yowza! Kinkead has a major butt. :)
If this is a trend in women's fashion, I'm all for it. ;)

(5)
Now that Van knows Alex (and Nick, via manipulation) is behind her
recent bank woes, and Mindy's marriage subsequently on the skids, I
wonder if she'll invoke the "Don't mess with my girl!" warning she
delivered to Alex back when the lighthouse was still standing...
