                   *********GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE********
                       For Monday, November 21, 1994

I'd like to thank Karin Brennan for being a wonderful Monday co-
updater. She has to give up her slot due to too much to do, so
I'll try doing every Monday on my own. If anyone really wants to
try their hand at updating, though, let me know and we can work
out some sort of a co-updating schedule.

This is going to be a quick and dirty update. There's just too
much I have to do before leaving town for Thanksgiving!

BRIDGET, DYLAN AND MATT REACT TO ED'S CONFESSION AND ARREST:

Bridget and Matt are in the kitchen, and Bridget is running
around very upset and angry with Ed for what he did to Dylan.
This is news to Matt.

Bridget feels she can't take the Boarding House from Ed after
what he's done. Matt tries to convince her that it was Maureen's
house, not Ed's, and that Maureen would want Bridget to have the
house. Matt reminds her of what it was like when their
grandmother lived there and they would visit. He thinks she
should keep it for Peter. She feels like she's lost everything
now. Matt tells her he's there, and she can depend on him. She
recruits him to help make pies for Thanksgiving. He tells her he
will help and they have more tender sister-brother talk. Enter
Dylan. Matt says he heard about Ed. Dylan makes some nasty
remarks about Ed, the "homegrown drunk". They can't understand
why he started drinking again. Dylan says it reminds him of
Billy and his fall off the wagon, which ended him up in jail.
Dylan hopes Ed will end up there, too.

Bridget can't take it anymore and leaves, leaving Matt and Dylan
to talk. Matt points out that it is hard to stop caring about
someone just because they went to jail. He asks Dylan if he's
stopped caring about his father...

Dylan and Matt continue their convo. Matt says his point is you
don't stop caring about someone just because they did something
wrong. Dylan wants to know if he's talking about him or Bridget.
Dylan says Bridget is furious with Ed. Matt knows, and says
she's hurt, too. Matt thinks that Ed is punishing himself more
than any court of law could. Bridget returns, and announces Ed
has been arrested. She is upset, and is worried about Michelle.
She wants to know how long they could put Ed in jail. Matt
thinks up to five years, if they can prove he was drunk. Dylan
wants Bridget to take him to the station, but she says she can't.
Matt agrees to take him.

THE FUGITIVES:

Dylan calls David to tell him it was Ed who hit him, not the
hijackers. He wants David to stop going after the hijackers and
be safe. David doesn't want to hear about it. After hanging up
with Dylan, David goes out of the construction site shack and
looks for Gabriella.

We find that Gabriella is being held hostage by her Uncle Carlos.
He is punishing her for getting picked up by the cops. She
explains that the police didn't have a chance to find out
anything from her. She begs him to let her go so she can get out
of town. He says no, she hasn't learned her lesson yet and
throws the food she was about to eat on the floor. He ties her
up again and leaves. (She stole his wallet when he let her sit
at the desk to eat. She gets the broken dish off the floor and
starts to saw away at the ropes that bind her hands).

David re-enters the construction shack with a copy to today's
newspaper. THe headline reads, "FORMER MURDER SUSPECT SOUGHT IN
WOMAN'S FLIGHT FROM POLICE," accompanied by a picture of David.
David remarks that he's in it now, and Gabriella better give him
something to show for it.

Meanwhile, Gabby successfully frees herself and escapes out the
window of the office where she was being kept.

Back at the construction shack, David tries to get in touch with
Cutter, but Gabby walks in, causing him to hang up quickly. She
apologizes for being late. He wants to know what happened to her
(she has a black eye). She says she fell down. David is
concerned that her friends aren't really "friends." Gabby sees
the headline on the newspapaer and gets upset. She is curious
about the "former murder suspect" part, and David explains he
used to be in trouble. She thinks the headline makes him seem
like a criminal, and now they'll treat him like one if they catch
him. David says they won't catch them, because they're going
underground. Gabby refuses to let him come with her.

David doesn't want to let Gabby leave. They discuss her
"friends" and David asks if they were the ones who hijacked the
truck. She wants to know how David knew, and he explains about
seeing her tattoo which matched the one Matt described on the
hijackers. She says she can't imagine how much he must hate her.
She didn't know what to do, they threatened to kill her. David
tries to convince her to go down to the police station and help
identify the hijackers. As they start to leave, Carlos comes in,
holding a gun.

ED, THE TOWN DRUNK:

There is some parent-child thing going on at Michelle's school,
and Ed has joined her there. Cutter enters and arrests Ed in
front of Michelle for hitting Dylan. Vanessa and Bill, who are
also there, witness this. Vanessa demands to know what is going
on and Ed begs Cutter to let him explain things to Michelle.
Cutter gives him 60 seconds. Meanwhile, Michelle is standing
there absolutely dumbfounded.

Michelle wants to know what is happening. Ed explains that he
was the one who hit Dylan. Michelle doesn't believe him, because
he would have said something before this. Ed explains that he
was drinking and didn't know until recently that he could have
been involved in the accident. He explains that he came to her
school to explain this to her before turning himself in. He
tells her that Eve knows about it. He asks Vanessa take care of
Michelle as Cutter leads him off.

Cutter brings in Ed in handcuffs. Cutter fills in Det. Levy on
why Ed has been arrested. Cutter informs him that Lillian said
Ed had a blackout that night. Suddenly, one of the cops in
uniform has a seizure. Ed directs what to do, though he's in
handcuffs. Cutter uncuffs him to help save the officer. The
officer has no pulse. Ed starts performing CPR with some of the
worst form I've ever seen. Lillian walks in and sees the whole
thing.

Ed helps the officer, who appears to still be convulsing
somewhat. Lillian has called the paramedics. The cop wants to
know Ed's name so he won't forget it. Ed doesn't answer. The
paramedics take the cop away, and Lillian apologizes to Ed for
telling the cops about Ed's blackout. They take Lillian away to
make her statement. Enter Eve, who is very upset. She is not
only concerned Ed, but also about Michelle. Eve wants to tell
Michelle that Ed didn't do it. Ed says no. She says the cops
can't prove anything. Ed thanks her for being there for
Michelle. They vow to stand by each other, no matter what.

Cutter questions Ed about the damage to his car. Ed covers for
Eve. Cutter informs him that the mechanic said a beautiful woman
brought it in. Ross objects. Ed claims that he was the one who
called up the garage and made the appointment. Eve merely took
the car in. Lillian comes out from signing her statement. Eve
is incredulous. Lillian explains to Eve that she had no idea
what the police were after, and she didn't do it to get back at
Ed or Eve in any way. Dylan and Matt come in, and Cutter asks
Dylan if he has anything to say to the accused.

Dylan says he doesn't want to press charges, but Cutter says
that's up to the DA. Cutter goes through Ed's list of accused
crimes. Ross explains that Ed came forward willingly, and that
he has no recollection of the crime. Cutter says it is because
he was drunk and that doesn't excuse anything. Ross gets called
away briefly, and Dylan apologizes for the way he acted toward Ed
in the Boarding House. Ed tells him he had every reason to act
the way he did, and thanks him for coming down to the station.
Matt takes Dylan home. Ross says they can't get an arraignment
tonight, so Ed will have to stay there tonight. Eve says she'll
take care of Michelle, and Ed is led away.

Eve stands, shell-shocked in the station. Vanessa enters, and
Eve fills her in on Ed's stay in jail. Vanessa says Michelle is
with her, and is dealing with everything fairly well. Eve says
she'll pick her up tomorrow. Eve walks off, and Vanessa asks
Ross if Ed will get out on bail. Ross says he should, and
reminds Vanessa that Ed is not Billy, and to not draw any
parallels. Ross leaves Vanessa and goes to speak to Eve. Eve
can't believe that Ed lied about talking to the mechanic. She
wants to tell the cops everything, so it won't look like Ed is
trying to cover his tracks, instead of covering up her
involvement. Ross advises against it until he's talked to Ed
about his motives. Eve won't listen and tells Cutter she needs
to talk to him. She tells Cutter about her covering up for Ed.
Cutter points out how Eve must believe that Ed could be involved
in the hit and run if she went to such great lenghts to cover it
up.

MINDUMS REALIZES WHAT A SLEAZE NICK IS:

Mindums reads the contract that Nick signed to bankrupt Lewis
Oil. She pockets the contract and looks into the safe where she
discovers a videotape, but hears someone coming. It is Nick. He
plays the ultimate sleaze and tries to comfort Mindy, assuming
she is upset about Lewis Oil's business troubles. He then
launches into a discussion of their relationship, how much she
means to him, etc. He wants to spend the afternoon with Mindy
and work on their relationship. He leaves her alone to go get a
"surprise" for her. As soon as he's gone, she gets the videotape
out of the safe and puts it in to play. She sees the tape of
Nick and Susan in bed in the Bahamas. Stunned look on Mindums'
face.

Mindums continues to watch the tape with an unbelieving and
crushed look on her face. Nick knocks on the den door because he
needs help getting in with her surprise. He gives her a big
bouquet of flowers and an early Christmas present from San
Francisco (I was never able to figure out what it was). He
reminds her of their trip to S.F. She is very upset. He starts
to talk about how his life has changed almost out of his control
(Gee, it's almost like he realizes what a sleazeball he's
become... almost, but not quite!). Mindy reminds him that he
chose this life. Nick denies it, and says it chose him. He says
he couldn't let Alan destroy his mother. He has a pity party for
himself and talks about how he's had to learn cut-throat tactics
in his new line of work. Mindy, who is getting more and more
upset, changes the subject and begs him for the truth. He
agrees. He says he does have something he needs to confess.

Nick has apparently filled Mindums in about the tape. Nick
explains to Mindy that Alan set him up in the Bahamas. Mindy
wants to know how the woman managed to drug him. Nick says all
he drank was fruit juice, but passed out. When he came to, the
suicide thing was hanging over him. Mindy wants to know why he
didn't tell her. He comes up with a million excuses, and says he
was wrong. He says that Mindy knows him too well, but she doubts
that.

Mindy says she understands not telling someone something to avoid
hurting them, and referrs to her hiding the truth about Nick's
real parentage. She says she did it because she was a coward and
was afraid of losing him. Nick understands. She says they have
to face up to each other and be honest. SHe is obviously baiting
him to tell her about the contract. He says he's told her
everything, and she asks him if he's sure. He says he didn't
want to hurt her and apologizes to her. He offers to give her
time alone to think about it. After he leaves, she pulls out the
contract from her pocket and sobs.

That's it! Happy Thanksgiving, to all the U.S. GL fans!
