			Guiding Light Update

				for

Tuesday, November 8 [Ollie loses Day!]

================================================================================

We begin with a repeat of the last few moments of Monday, to wit:

Holly, Roger, and Alex in Holly's bedroom:

"Can we talk," Alexandra bursts in like Joan Rivers. She apologizes for
interrupting them, but it's "really important". Holly, nude, jumps out of
bed and gets in her face.

Alan and Jenna:

Jenna is welcomed by Alan at his door. He wonders if this means she
has forgiven him. No not forgiven, but she "must get past it". Why the change
of heart? Jenna is grateful that Alan got Alex to drop the charges against
her [no, you didn't miss anything, be patient]. Alan says, oh yeah, let's
go to dinner. Agreed.

Buzz and Lucy at the Tower's Club:

"Dad, it's me," Lucy chirps. "Hey, Lucy, it's me," responds dear old
dad. Lucy is getting ready for her date with an actuary. She wonders what that
is and dad explains that she should practice counting numbers. She is wearing
a very odd red dress. One shoulder is a small strap of material, while the
other shoulder has a broad, thin strap. Quite asymmetrical, and disturbing.
Meanwhile, Buzz takes a reservation for Alan to come to dinner.

Bridget, Cutter, and Dylan:

Detective Cutter asks a few questions about the night of the accident.
Who knew where Dylan was going? Bridget. Could Gabriella have heard? No, she
wasn't around. Dylan asks if the Detective thinks Gabby is behind it, and
Cutter looks doubtful. What he really wants is for Dylan to close his eyes
(whoops) and concentrate on what happened that night. All Dylan can remember
are headlights. The Detective is dissatisfied and allows that he doesn't think
it was the hijackers at all, but a drunk driver. Naturally, Ed is eavesdropping
at that very moment.

---------Cut to a once proud Lighthouse------------

"Could have been", Dylan says. Bridget likes the idea that it was just
a random accident and not someone trying to kill her man. She says this with
a bizarre tone of insecurity. She watches Dylan with puppy-dog sad eyes. Ed
joins the trio, and subtlely asks Cutter why he thinks that it might be a
drunk driver. Cutter doesn't get specific but he says there is evidence. He
then goes back to trying to get Dylan to remember that night (he says that
people can frequently remember more than they think they can).

Matt joins Bridget outside the room. He offers her a shoulder to cry
on, but she keeps up her face. Ed walks by them, obviously upset, and the
siblings wonder about their uncle. Bridget follows him, and tells Matt that
Dylan would like to see him. Matt goes into Dylan, and Cutter is gone. Dylan
asks if they are alone, and Matt says yes. Dylan wants to ask Matt a question,
thinking that only Matt will give him a straight answer: "What am I going to
do about Bridget?"

Ed at the Chapel:

"Oh God, it can't have been me. It can't have been me." He sits in a
pew with his head in his hands. Bridget walks in and gives him a kiss on the
head. "What was that for?" She's just worried about him. She thinks maybe he
isn't telling her everything. About Dylan. No, they're not keep any secrets,
and she should think about being more honest herself. That is, she needs to
lean on someone. Okay, maybe she has to be strong for Dylan, but she shouldn't
keep up this Rock of Gibralter routine with others, like David or himself.
Bridget breaks down. She admits she scared. Over whether Dylan will make it?
No, what if she can't handle all of this.

Alex, Roger, and Holly:

Alex rants in the foreground about her brother and the video tape and
the board meeting. In the background, out of earshot [microphone shot, I
suppose], Roger and Holly are dressing and arguing. [A very bizarre and
enjoyably surrealistic scene.] Holly leaves them alone in her bedroom. Roger
stays; "What do you want," he yells. Alex makes another pitiful apology [she
doesn't seem to mean it at all] and says that Roger is "the only person I
know who fights dirtier than Alan." She finally tells Roger all the details
about the Susan/Nick fiasco, and shares with him the wonders of yesterday's
meeting. Alan plans to "crown his own son King of the Universe". Holly returns
for her shoes and Alex is annoyed. "Is that her idea of privacy," she asks when
Holly is gone. Roger reminds her whose room she is in, and asks her to get to
the point. Alex wants Roger to get rid of all the video tapes.

Bridget and Ed:

Bridget is not perfect. She's not Eleni ("you're not even Mother
Theresa," Ed agrees). She gets angry sometimes, she's not "noble or sweet",
she's not "strong or smart". Ed points out that she was all of those things
when it came to winning her son back, and more. He says that is all that
Dylan needs and she has what it takes. "He's blind. You don't love him anymore?"
"No. I love him even more." [Bridget has a broken wing fixation.] What she is
afraid of is that he will try to push her out of his life, and she won't be
able to stop him. She know him; he did it before, when the hijackers first
appeared and he'll do it again. But Ed reminds her that she saw through it
then, and she will be able to again. He says that when you love someone, you
develop a "6th sense" about them. "They need help, and you give it to them."
[Are TPTB say that this is what Eve is doing, without knowing why?]

Matt and Dylan:

Dylan spends sometime feeling sorry for himself. Can't do that, can't
do this, can't be a man, etc. Matt doesn't buy it. He thinks that Dylan can
handle whatever comes next. Dylan thinks maybe, but he doesn't want Bridget
to have to deal with all of this stuff. Matt, who is sitting on the bed, very
close to Dylan's face, asks if he will do the "noble thing, and really leave
her this time?" He tells Dylan that this blindness is something Dylan can
handle and maybe he should slow down. "Got your whole life planned? You are
going to have to live your life like the rest of us, one day at a time."
He says that Bridget thinks Dylan is the man for her, and that blindness won't
change that. He tells Dylan that it his honest opinion that Dylan should
"hang in there".

Tangie and Patrick:

Patrick asks Tangie whether she saw any conspicuously drunk people
the night of Dylan's accident. Tangie gets defensive, but she didn't see
anyone like that. Patrick tries a new tack. "What are you doing tonight?"
Alan-Michael comes in at this moment, greets Tangie happily and the kiss
a little. [No fair! Why are TPTB hiding this from us? When did this start?]
Patrick looks rather unhappy.

Alex and Roger:

Roger is of the opinion that there is no point in trying to destroy the
video tapes. Alan is bound to have lots of copies, and besides, they should
do something "more permanent". Alex begins to balk, but Roger assures her that
that is not what he has in mind. Besides, maybe Alan won't be around much
longer naturally. "Alan? He'll live forever."

Roger decides he needs information from Alex. Any past indiscretions
of Alan's or the board members (he mentions Vanessa's name). While he talks,
Alex discovers Holly's newspaper clippings of their marriage. Roger tries
to take it from her, but Holly walks in at that moment. She says "My favorite
one is the divorce." She leaves again, she says for the last time, and Roger
insists on some rules. Most obviously not to ever do this again. But he also
wants "something in return". "You always do dear." [Was this a slip? She called
Roger dear. Is she just in the habit of talking to people who are supposed to
be family, or what?] Roger thinks that their plan of action should be not to
try to get someone off the hook, but to try to get someone else on it.

Lucy and her date and Buzz:

The actuary rattles off some statistics about money and life. [If I
were an actuary, I'd be offended. Good thing I'm just a mathematician.] Buzz
offers some food suggestions and the date (whose face we never see) says
"I don't eat anything with sauce on it." Lucy asks what Buzz did with the
favor Alex owed him. It turns out that it was Buzz who got Alex to drop the
charges against Jenna. At that moment, in walk Alan and Jenna arm-in-arm.
They look happy, and Lucy is jealous. Buzz has to go sit them, so he leaves
the happy blind-daters.

Buzz and Alan are introduced, and Jenna handles it all with absolute
confidence. [This is the first real difference I've seen since Fiona's
departure. This Jenna doesn't show any signs of tension when Buzz is around.]
She tells Buzz that Alan got the suit against her dropped. [Why she tells
him this is beyond me.] Alan asks Buzz, the host, if he might consider leaving
them alone. Buzz departs, and Alan is concerned about Jenna. "Wasn't that
difficult?" "I didn't even think about it," she says.

Alan-Michael and Tangie:

Tangie is super busy at the bar, but she can get a few minutes in.
He tells her about the board meeting, and he says that at first he was
shocked by what happened, but then he just thought about how impressive his
father was. They both seem very happy. He tells Tangie that he will be
President soon. She wonders if that is what he wants. Oh yes, it's what he
has always wanted. She notices the ring on his hand and she touches it. They
talk a little, but as their hands grip harder, their talking softens and
softens. "Want to see it?" Alan-Michael asks. "What?" "The board room."

Bridget and Ed:

Ed would put his money on Bridget and Dylan out-surviving all the
other romances of the day. Ross walks in and asks how Bridget is. She's
better now, and she leaves. Then Ross asks how Ed is. Has he been to a meeting
yet? Many. "How's Blake?" Well, she's fine, but Ross isn't so good. It's clear
that Alan is coming after her, and he's worried. He tells Ed about the boxing
match plot and the boat ride. Blake "enjoys the challenge", but Ross just
wants out of it. He is thinking of resigning from Spaulding as soon as he
gets a few more clients. Ed thinks this is drastic, but maybe the right thing.
He asks Ross for a favor: to drive him to the site of Dylan's accident.

Dylan and Matt:

Matt has run all his life and he's not happy with the decisions he's
made. He has nothing to offer to anyone he might love. Dylan on the other hand
has plenty. Maybe Dylan's blind now, but Matt "never had the vision [Dylan]
had". Dylan complains that he's been trying to remember what everything looks
like, whether his bath towel hangs on the left or the right, how many doors
down the bathroom is, etc., but he can't remember. He's pissed off that
others will have to spend their time looking after him. That Bridget will have
to watch the ground when they go for a walk, so that Dylan won't fall. But,
Matt says, he can "show" Bridget about the "sound of the wind", and the
"smell of the pines trees and the flowers", blah blah blah. Dylan says,
"You've got an answer for everything, don't you?" "I'm trying, but you're
tough," Matt laughs. He says its the people in your life, like Bridget
and Peter and his family that matter. "Aren't they worth making a go of it?"

Lucy and her date, et. al.:

The actuary is sharing more data with the lucky Miss Cooper.
Something about 401 K pension plans [I think]. Lucy's thoughts are shared
with us: "This is the most boring man I've ever met. Hasn't anybody ever told
him that he has a hair growing out of his ear?" Buzz gives them a bottle of
champagne, and the actuary reminds him they didn't order it. Buzz leaves it
anyway. He tells Lucy that he does all his calculations with a slide rule
(he doesn't trust calculators), and he'd be happy to show her how it works.

Meanwhile, a few tables down, Alan goes to make a phone call, and Buzz
tries to pour Jenna some champagne. She covers her glass, and they talk a
little. Again, Jenna's friendliness seems genuine. Buzz is still clearly not
over her, but he tries to be as positive as he can. She says that Alan is
quite a friend. "He gets everything he wants." Alan returns and is worried
about his son who hasn't made it home yet. Jenna reminds him that his boy
is out with Tangie, and she teasingly says that maybe it will be a while before
he makes it back. Alan grits his teeth and moves on.

Alan-Michael and Tangie in the board room:

She says she's been in other board rooms before. Not like this one, he
says. He sits her down at one desk, and takes a seat in his grandfather's chair.
Then he begins a routine [which anyone who is reading this missed. Much sadness
for you.] First, he starts off as the boss, doing a pretty decent Bill
Clinton. Then, he interprets his Aunt Alex as Peter Lorre [I think that's
who it was supposed to be, it wasn't as good as Clinton]. And then he does
Nick as some toady little fool: "You upset my mother. I'm going home." This
part of the routine devolves, and Tangie says "You know, you are really
terrible. I wish we had a camera to have caught all that."

Holly and Roger:

Roger apologizes for his insane compatriot. But Holly never complained.
She says maybe they should "go to Ed's bedroom" next. Roger reminds her they
only have to put up with this until Alan kicks it. He asks her to marry him
again. "I wish I could, because I love you so much", but she doesn't like
all the shenanigans. She hates that he is playing the Spauldings agains each
other; she just wants it to be over. When it is, she'll talk about marrying him.
She says they should get ready for dinner.

Ross and Ed at the bar:

Ross wonders what they were doing, and Ed says that now they "saw
what [the driver] saw" the night of the accident. He is trying to figure
out the state of the mind of the person who hit Dylan. "Out of it," Ross
decides. Ed thinks whoever did this must have known they did. Why don't they
come forward? Ross thinks that not all people are so brave as to own up to
their mistakes. He thinks maybe Ed should go on TV and ask the person who
did this to come forward [why would Ed do this?] He should make a direct
appeal to the guy. "What do you think?", he asks Dr. Bauer. [It is my
interpretation that Ed looks at Ross as if Ross thinks Ed did it, but Ross
is being entirely ingenuous.]

Alan-Michael and Tangie:

They watch the tape of Alan-Michael, "King of the Universe", and
Tangie makes fun of his hair. Alan-Michael allows that his life really wasn't
like that, that he didn't really have many friends and that he never saw his
father. She says she now understands why all of this Presidential stuff is
so important to him.

Alan and Holly and Roger, et. al. at the Tower's Club:

They compliment each other's looks, and pass by. Lucy's date is
sharing more vital information with her. "According to this you should die
at the age of 79." "Sometimes I feel like I already have."

Buzz interrupts the love birds, telling Lucy she has a phone call.
She doesn't really, but he tells Lucy that he needs to tell Jenna that it
was he, and not Alan, who got the suit dropped. But as he walks towards
Alan and Jenna, they get up to leave.

Roger and Holly discuss how good Alan looks for a dying man. Buzz
follows Alan and Jenna out the door.

Bridget and Dylan:

"Why are you sleeping with the lights on?" Bridget asks. She recovers,
and joins him in bed. She asks him how his ribs are, and when he says fine, she
says good, because she is "going to make love" to him.

Ross, Ed, and Cutter:

Detective Cutter tells Ed, since he seemed interested before, that
the cops have even more evidence that the perpetrator was a drunk driver.
They found a broken bottle of Scotch. A rare and expensive brand, which
happens to be the kind Ed bought that night. We fade out on Ed's dazed
expression. [I'm glad you can get a rare and expensive brand of Scotch at
the corner drugstore in Springfield. It gives the place class.]
