GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1994

HIGHLIGHTS
* Dylan learns his fate
* Vanessa puts Alan in his place
* Holly & Rog re-examine their relationship
* Ed finds more reason to brood over his blackout
* AM needles Nick; Alan moves in for the kill

The morning of Spaulding Election Day in Springfield, USA...

CEDARS HOSPITAL: In the hall, Ed & Eve confer over who should be more
tired. Eve is depressed because she feels she didn't do enough for Dylan.
Ed reassures her she did all she could. It wasn't her fault -- "Some
maniac ran him down." She takes little comfort in this.

In Dylan's room, Jet snoozes in a chair. Dylan awakens & calls her name.
She doesn't respond & Dylan gets scared, calling her more & more loudly
until she finally awakens & assures him she's there. Dylan accidentally
knocks a vase of flowers off his bedside table. Jet hugs him & tells him
everything will be all right.

COUNTRY CLUB: Rog & Holly sit together over coffee, but Rog's attention
is focused on Nick & Alex at another table. Holly suggests that he join
them, since he's so interested. Rog is just curious & no wonder, since
the Spaulding board meeting is today. Holly spills coffee on herself.

Nick wants to prove that Alan engineered the Bahamas escapade & that the
video is phony. The Spaulding presidency won't mean much to him if he
loses his wife. Alex says they can't postpone the board meeting. Alan-
Michael stops by to throw some salt on Nick's wounds: "You're not
thinking of pulling out of the race, are you?" he asks.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan watches the tape of Nick & Susan with a satisfied
smirk. Jenna arrives to tell Alan exactly what she thinks of him. She
accuses him of using her to record Vanessa's private conversations. Alan
tells her to drop her self-righteous attitude. He reminds her that the
Spaulding board will be voting today & he wants no surprises but his own.
They spar over who was using whom & who was doing whom a favor (Alan
"spared" Jenna by not telling her about the bug). Jenna thinks Alan is
insane, but he says he's her last chance for the future she wants & the
loss of one friend is insignificant in comparison. "If I can't regain
Spaulding, or if you cross me, you'll be destitute & broke, with a
child." Jenna seems on the verge of tears.

COUNTRY CLUB: Holly has to go home to change her clothes. Roger offers to
drive her & they leave. Rog steals one more backward glance at Alex on
his way out.

Alex tells AM to tell Alan that Nick will be elected Spaulding president
today. AM says Nick isn't as sure as Alex. Nick thinks AM has nothing to
gloat about. AM spots board member Hargrave & decides to go have a chat.

Alex tells Nick again that they can't postpone the meeting. She tries to
pump him up, but he's still worried about the video. Alex says it doesn't
matter as long as no one sees it before the vote & they'll deal with it
after. She reminds him that Alan can't be at the meeting because he lost
his voting rights along with everything else when he went to jail. Nick
doesn't want Mindy to hear about it from someone else. He should have
told her earlier, but now it's a really bad time to tell her, with Dylan
in the hospital. Alex says if Mindy really loves Nick, she'll believe in
him & stand behind him. Alex warns Nick that if AM is in charge it will
change Nick's whole life. What about his plans to adopt a baby?

AM shakes Hargrave's hand & says he'll see him at the board meeting. With
a smile, he promises it won't be "just another day at the office."

CEDARS: Dylan remembers the accident. He can see the headlights coming at
him. He hates not being able to see. He feels like he's locked up & can't
get out. He senses someone else in the room. It's Eve & Ed, come to take
some vitals. "I'm not getting my sight back, am I?" challenges Dylan. Eve
is evasive -- the nerve damage was more extensive than they thought.
Dylan presses for a real answer. "It's not going to heal like my broken
ribs, is it? Is it?!" Jet holds his hand.

AN ALLEY: Uncle Carlos finds Gabriella & asks her if she has more news
about the hijacking witness. The frightened Gabby maintains that the guy
left town. Carlos wants to know why she summoned him, then. She asks if
he ran down Dylan Lewis.

CEDARS: Jet says there's a chance Dylan might get his sight back someday.
He asks how much of a chance. She says there's no way to know. He thanks
her for being honest. Ed tries to explain some of the mechanics of
Dylan's injury. "In your case..." Dylan interrupts. "In my case, I'm
blind." Ed says the doctors did all they could. Dylan says he's not
blaming anyone; he just wants to know what he's up against. Ed & Eve
leave & Jet cuddles up to the morose Dylan.

Out in the hall, Lillian offers her sympathy to Josh while David storms
through a door in a fit of frustrated anger. Frank & Cutter are on his
tail. Cutter says David is off the case because he's a "loose cannon."

Mindy learns that Dylan has just learned about his sight & she breaks
into tears. Josh sits her down & tries to comfort her, since Nick is busy
with the Spaulding vote.

Ed wants to go home, check on Michelle & get some rest. He asks Eve if he
can have his car back; he drove her car over & it seemed fine. Eve makes
lame excuses for why she wants to keep his car (doesn't want to dig
through her purse for the keys, etc.). She makes a quick exit. [If you
ask me, Eve has been studiously avoiding talking about anything but
Dylan's care with Ed since he arrived at the hospital a few episodes ago.
I think it's obvious she knows something & is trying to protect Ed
somehow by feigning ignorance & refusing to talk about it.]

Matt asks Ed how long he thinks Dylan will be in the hospital. Ed says it
shouldn't be too long. Matt was thinking of offering to oversee the work
at the construction site in the interim; Ed says Matt should talk to
Dylan about it a little later. Matt's got one more question: "Alan
Spaulding--what's his story?"

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan greets Vanessa at the door. Van's all sweetness &
light, thanking him for the evening on the yacht. Alan wonders how she
found him. Jenna "slipped" & gave her the address, she says. She grabs
his head & plants a kiss firmly on his lips, then turns livid. "Is that
what you've been lacking, you son of a bitch?!" she demands.

She strides into the lair & needles him about getting off by listening to
the tapes. Alan turns the tables & asks about Van's new charity. "Wasn't
it established to help the *youth* of the community?" Alan suggests that
it might come to light that she's been "exploiting" her position. Van
thinks the suggestion is revolting. "I can just see the tabloids now...
Chairman uses youth charity group to supply herself with young lovers..."
Alan figures the scandal would devastate Van's family. She counters that
they're already devastated by Dylan's tragic accident. This is news to
Alan. He's genuinely sorry. "You already have so many implacable enemies,
Alan. Do you really want to add me to the list?" she lets herself out as
Alan ponders her parting question.

CEDARS: Matt wants to know "how much trouble" Alan is. Ed says some
people think he's poison, but he shouldn't bother Matt unless Matt has
something he wants. Matt thanks his uncle & leaves.

Ross joins Frank, Cutter & David (who is still complaining about being
called a "loose cannon"). Ross reminds Frank that the main reason he
invested (aside from thinking he'll make money down the road) is that he
wants Frank to keep an eye on Blake. Frank remembers.

Ross then corners Ed & asks whether he's remembered anything from his
missing hours. He hasn't, and he can't tell Eve. He figures he somehow
managed to get himself home.

In Dylan's room, he tells Jet to stop blaming himself. He acts stoic
about the situation & asks Jet to get him something to drink. She goes
out & when he's sure she's gone, he gives way. Eventually, he pulls off
his bandage (really just a light gauze wrap over his eyes) &, mumbling a
plea, opens his bruised, red, puffy eyes. What he sees is mostly dark
gray with some areas of light. He pulls off his covers & stands, hanging
on to his IV pole. He starts to shuffle across the room, then stumbles &
falls over. Dylan sees grayness as Josh, then Lillian, rush into the room
to help.

HOLLY'S COTTAGE: Rog follows Holly, imploring her to understand his
position. Alan is going to die in a few months & Rog's hopes will die
along with him. Holly says she's not standing in his way. "Standing in my
way of what?" asks Roger in confusion.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Nick checks on Dylan's condition by phone. He
tells Alex that Dylan is stabilized. Alex enters to give Nick one last
pep talk, then the board swarms in. Alan-Michael's arrival is greeted by
a sudden silence. He says no one should be surprised; he's still a voting
member of the board. "I wouldn't miss this fresh new beginning for
anything."

CEDARS: Lillian gets Dylan re-settled in bed. She says she'll leave his
eyes unbandaged & shows him where the buzzer is. She leaves & Josh
remains. Mindy & Jet enter as Josh interrogates Dylan about where he
thought he was going. Dylan just wanted to get a feel for the space. Josh
warns Dylan to take it easy. Jet takes it in stride & hands Dylan his
soda. Dylan keeps blinking & rolling his eyes backwards into his head
[it's very disconcerting & kind of creepy]. Mindy asks what she can do &
Dylan says she can stop asking what she can do. Someone wanted him off
the land & now he's off. Mindy says it's not over & pledges full Lewis
support. Dylan doesn't want to be bailed out. Mindy won't let him quit &
gives an impassioned speech about what it means to be a Lewis.

Van arrives with a bag of necessities for Jet & a letter for Dylan from
Billy. She asks Josh to read it aloud. Billy's been trying to make a deal
with God to make Dylan well. He loves Dylan & wishes he could be with
him. He says Dylan should not let go of his dream.

BAUER HOUSE: Ed waits by the garage apt as Eve pulls up in his big blue-
green wagon. The garage doors are blocked by a lawnmower & Ed tells Eve
to leave the car in the driveway. He asks Eve if she's ever been plagued
by an inability to recall a specific detail til it drove her nuts. She
knows the feeling. Ed can't remember what time he got home the previous
night & asks if she can help him out. She says no; she was asleep. He
asks why she's sleeping in the garage apt. She's been wondering the same
thing herself, even though it was what they agreed. She suggests they get
married right away & go on a honeymoon far away. She feels like life is
so fragile & they should just go for it. Ed thinks it's a bad time with
Dylan & Bridget's problems. Eve agrees & gives him a big hug. She offers
to scramble some eggs & heads for the kitchen. Ed notices that the car
looks washed, inside & out. Eve admits to have taken it to the car wash &
heads inside. Ed decides to check out the car & finds a rainbow air-
freshener hanging inside, which seems to concern him beyond reason.

CEDARS: Mindy paces miserably & Vanessa joins her. Van asks about the
adoption plans. Mindy says they agreed to go ahead with it, but Nick is
tied up w/Spaulding. Anyway, she's more concerned about Dylan now. "Why
are you so unsettled about Nick?" asks Van. Mindy didn't say that, but
admits it's true. "He's changing right before my eyes & I don't know what
to do with it." She's concerned about his obsession for winning Spaulding
over Alan-Michael & his dad. It's not that he wants it so much, but what
he's willing to do for it, she decides. Van thinks Alan brings out the
worst in people.

Matt comes by & asks Mindy how her brother is. "He's... dealing with it,"
she replies, then goes to check on him. Van asks Matt to let her handle
the situation with Alan by herself. Matt doesn't want to promise
anything, but says he won't do anything crazy.

Cutter barrels down the hall with David, Frank & Blake in hot pursuit.
David heatedly reminds Cutter that C is not his boss & can't tell him
he's on or off the case. He admits he's personally involved, but he can't
back off. Frank tries to cool things down. Cutter says if David doesn't
back off, he'll be arrested for impeding a police investigation. With
that, he turns on his heel & leaves. An angry David heads after him,
mouth running a mile a minute, but Frank holds him back & Blake goes
after Cutter. "Don't be apologizing for me!" David yells after her. He
shrugs off Frank's hold.

ALLEY: Gabriella gets hysterical with Uncle Carlos & says he's putting
her in jeopardy with the people she's spying on. He thinks maybe she's
doing too good a job of pretending to be their friend. "Maybe you're not
pretending at all," he suggests, as he pushes her threateningly. She
denies, denies, denies.

HOLLY'S COTTAGE: Holly ties her robe & wonders why Rog is still hanging
around & not working, or doing whatever he does when he's not with her.
Rog says she knows exactly what he does, because he tells her everything,
because those are the rules they agreed to. He says she's putting him
between a rock & a hard place by wanting to know everything, then not
liking what she hears. Holly knows the feeling. Rog asks if she really
wants him to start keeping things from her. "You mean you haven't
already?" she asks. He says he hasn't & she knows it, because when he
slipped, she was on him like white on rice. He can't get away with
anything because she knows what he's thinking.

Holly says she's her lover, not his keeper. Rog massages her shoulders as
he asserts that they're just experiencing "a little glitch" in an
otherwise good, honest relationship. Holly closes her eyes as if she
can't stand to hear any more BS. She admits that maybe she doesn't want
to know the whole truth. Rog says the important thing is that she can
trust him; that he can come home at 4 AM without her thinking the worst.
"What, that you're dead?" she asks, smiling. This breaks the ice & they
start kissing as Rog vows that there's no other woman, but "only, only
you... Shall we lock the door & let me prove it to you?" He starts
unbuttoning his shirt as he heads toward the door. Holly shoves him out &
locks the door behind him. "Holly, why'd you do that?" Rog asks from the
other side. Holly looks as if she doesn't really know the answer.

SPAULDING: Alex consults with Ross; she thinks AM can't be there. AM
asserts that family members cannot be voted off the board with less than
a 3/4 majority. Ross whispers to Alex that the kid's right. Nick stares
woodenly at AM as AM says he's still around even though Nick is going to
steal the presidency. AM thinks Nick looks a bit pale. Nick says AM's
vote won't make a difference. Alex slips into the tete a tete to ask,
sotto voce, if AM is there to play "that tape." "What tape?" he asks. She
warns him not to play dumb. AM raises his voice to greet more arriving
board members. Alex starts herding them all into the boardroom.

Alex closes the doors & thanks everyone for coming. She wants to get
right to the first order of business. The chair at the head of the table
swings around to reveal Alan, fingering a videotape. "I suppose that
would be me," he says. Nick looks worried. Alex struggles to maintain her
composure & locks eyes with the smiling Alan.

ALLEY: The tearful Gabby maintains her loyalty to her uncle. He tires of
scaring her & tells her she has nothing to fear because he had nothing to
do with Dylan's accident. But he's not sorry it happened, since it means
Dylan will have to stop building houses "on the land *I* want."

CEDARS: Dylan basks in the love of the Lewises. With their support, he
thinks he can carry on. He seems tired & Jet kisses him. The rest of the
family says good-bye, then Jet kisses him again. Dylan is left alone with
the letter from his dad. He asks if anyone is still there. When he's sure
they're gone, he crumples the letter.

ED'S CAR: Ed listens to a radio report of a lead in the hit-&-run on
Dylan. A witness reported seeing a male Caucasian in a blue-green wagon,
so police are searching for a vehicle meeting that description that may
have sustained damage. Ed stares blankly; we see his image in the side-
view mirror.

HOLLY'S COTTAGE: Through the door, Holly says she believes Rog, but wants
to be alone for awhile.
R: I want you to know that I'm always with you, like your heart
beating, like your breath going in & out.
	H: Like a tune I can't get out of my head. :-)

Rog doesn't want to leave while Holly is still mad. She's just peeved,
she says. She encourages him to go to the board meeting. "I don't want
to," he replies. "I want to marry you." [!!] Holly opens the door so
quickly, Rog almost falls. "What did you say?" she asks

SPAULDING: Alex implores Ross to do something as Alan stars shaking hands
with the board members. Ross says he can't do anything unless Alex wants
to call the police. She does. Nick tries to take control. He says while
he is pleased to have his uncle visit, they have business to conduct that
does not involve him. Nick invites Alan to leave. As he makes his way
toward the TV, Alan says he is very much involved & wants the board to
get "a full picture" of their potential president. He slides the tape
into the VCR. Alex gasps as the screen fades to black.

the land & now he's off.
