GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1998

I'm sorry to announce that this will be my last weekly update. It's
gotten to be a chore instead of fun, and since there are at least two
other sites that offer daily GL updates, it doesn't seem particularly
worthwhile anymore. If anyone is interested in taking over my Thursday
updating slot after this enthusiastic endorsement, please let me know
and I will give you all the details.

HIGHLIGHTS:

* Frank & Teri follow Annie's trail. Reva & Josh follow Frank & Teri.
* Michelle, Dahlia, Bill & others attend the Millennium opening. Vicki
Spaulding returns.
* Holly urges Ross to forgive Blake and heal his family.
* Blake & Ben discuss how she can fight Ross to keep her kids.

POLICE DEPT: Frank announces to Reva, Josh & Teri that there's been no
sign of Annie following the incident at the carousel. Josh & Teri
conclude that Annie probably made it to the highway & hitched a ride.
Teri thinks the incident is a positive thing because it means that Annie
is getting sloppier. The car she used was stolen a week ago. Frank
suggests that Reva & Josh go home for some rest, but Reva insists that
she & Josh know Annie's twisted mind better than anyone. Frank asks for
their help going through the stuff they found in the car. Reva finds a
dry-cleaning receipt & Frank leaves to follow it up. Josh finds a
cufflink marked AS. They wonder if Annie has been in touch with Alan.

DINER: Michelle urges Dahlia to come to the Millennium opening. She
thinks Dahlia hasn't had any fun since... well, in a long time. Dahlia
doesn't want to talk about Marcus. She says she's moved on. Michelle
says Dahlia has to get ready before Bill shows up. She asked him to meet
her at the diner instead of at her house because she didn't want it to
seem like a date. That's another reason she wants Dahlia to come
tonight. Dahlia doesn't understand Michelle's concern, since Bill has
spent "half his life" in Michelle's house. Michelle gets defensive, but
Dahlia pushes. She eventually figures out that Bill "finally did it. He
finally pounced."

MILLENNIUM: The place is hopping, with couples dancing on two levels.
Selena walks by with a tray of cocktails. Drew surveys the landscape in
a long black halter-top dress and elbow-length gloves. She finds Jesse &
tells him that he's a big success. Harley & Phillip arrive. Phillip
thinks he's a little old for the crowd. Harley tells him he's wiser than
all of them. "Thank god I have my child bride with me," retorts Phillip,
kissing Harley. "Ow!" he exclaims, when Harley's beeper sticks him. He
wonders where she's got it hidden, but she laughs that it's an
"undercover beeper." Phillip seems anxious to locate it. They greet
Selena & walk into the back.

Selena finds Jesse, who is fretting because Michelle's not there. Selena
tells him to relax; Michelle will be there soon. She assures him that he
looks fine. Actually, he looks like a gangster, in a gray pinstripe suit
& black shirt, with a big red carnation on his lapel.

Phillip asks why Harley's wearing a beeper. She says she wants to know
if Frank comes up with anything on the stalker case. Phillip reminds her
that she's not a cop anymore. She wants to stay in on it because they
think it's Ken, but she knows it's Annie. Phillip kisses her to shut her
up. For one night, they are going to pretend that all is right with the
world & enjoy themselves.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Holly shows up looking tired. Ross doesn't want to talk
to her about Blake. Holly explains that she's there because the police
think Ken is the Nursery Rhyme Stalker. She says Ross knows Ken is
innocent, and she wants Ross to represent him. Ross says he's not taking
on any new clients & offers Holly a referral. Holly doesn't want a
referral. She says Ken is family & the family needs him. Ross says his
family doesn't need him. Holly says Blake does. Ross deduces that Holly
hasn't spoken to Blake recently. Holly asks what happened. Ross says
when Holly finds out, she won't want him to represent Ken. "I'm turning
into my brother," confesses Ross.

MARLER HOUSE: Blake picks up toys & notices her wedding photo on the
mantel. Ben knocks on the door & Blake lets him in. He asks her what's
wrong. She says Ross is making good on his promise to take the boys away
from her. She doesn't know what she'll do if she loses them. Ben says
they knew this would happen. Ross fights dirty when his manhood is
challenged. Blake can't believe the cruel things Ross said to her. She
says Ross is going to try to prove her an unfit mother. Ben says if Ross
wants to play hardball, they can play too. Ben promises to make Ross
sorry he ever came after them.

Blake doesn't want to punish Ross; she just wants to hold onto her
children. Ben says Ross is trying to destroy Blake. Blake insists that
she's a good mother. Ben says that's irrelevant in court. Blake doesn't
understand why Ross would go after her like this & humiliate himself in
the process. Ben says Ross has lost everything. But if Ross plays dirty,
they'll get filthy. Blake doesn't want to get involved in that kind of
fight, but Ben says she has no choice. Blake asks what they have to do.
Ben says he'll start by reopening the case against Ross. Blake has to
press charges for attempted murder.

MILLENNIUM: David chats with Drew, impressed by how quickly Drew
revamped the club. They notice that all eyes are focused in one
direction. A patron tells them that Victoria Spaulding has arrived.
David goes to Vicki & greets her. She looks very elegant in a long,
sparkly black spaghetti-strapped dress. David asks where Vicki's been &
learns that Alan sent her on a whirlwind tour of Spaulding's worldwide
holdings. He's making her learn from the ground up. David sees that
Vicki is alone, since Alan wouldn't come, so he gets her a drink.

Drew pulls Jesse to the bar so they an share an opening night toast.
They walk through the club with their champagne as Drew tells Jesse that
he's a star for making her club look so great. They toast to Millennium
& a bright future.

DINER: Dahlia teases Michelle about Bill putting the moves on Michelle,
who insists that nothing happens. Dahlia says it's obvious that Bill's
feelings for Michelle have changed. Michelle maintains that she loves
Jesse & Bill knows that. Nothing has changed. Dahlia's not so sure. She
asks why Bill kissed Michelle. Michelle says it was innocent, but admits
that it was more than a friendly kiss on the cheek. She doesn't want to
talk about it. Dahlia asks what it was like. Michelle claims not to
remember & begs Dahlia to come to the opening. Dahlia decides it will be
interesting.

Bill arrives & declares that Michelle looks amazing. She returns the
compliment, and adds that they have to wait for Dahlia to get ready. She
makes about 20 excuses for why she invited Dahlia. Bill doesn't exactly
buy it, but he thinks they'll all have fun.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Ross tells Holly that he's suing for custody of the twins
& when Blake came over to discuss it, things got "a little out of hand."
Holly says Ross can't take the kids away from Blake when he knows what
they mean to her. Ross isn't so sure. He told her to keep them away from
Ben, but she didn't. She chose Ben over her sons. Holly thinks Ross is
upset because he thinks Blake chose Ben over him. Ross doesn't want to
psychoanalyze the situation & claims he has work to do. Holly tells him
not to give up on his family so easily. Ross asks what he's supposed to
do after Blake has had "any number of affairs." Is he just supposed to
sit back & watch Ben raise his children? He is outraged that Blake let
her libido get the better of her. And he doesn't think Holly is in any
position to give advice after what she's done with her own life. He's
drowning in hate. He would get great satisfaction from grinding Blake
into dust, and that makes him just like Ben. Holly says Ross is not like
Ben; Ben drove him to this. She admits that she advised Blake to lie
that Ben raped her to save her marriage. Ross doesn't blame Holly. Holly
says if she is at all at fault for what happened, maybe she can try to
fix it. And if Ross has any love left for Blake, he should fight for
her.

MARLER HOUSE: Blake says Ross was trying to protect her, not kill her.
He thought Ben was raping her. Ben says all he saw was a man in a
jealous rage shooting his adulterous wife. Ross brought a loaded gun
into a house with small children. Blake gets upset & tries to refute
Ben's allegations. She says the charges have been dropped, anyway. Ben
says Frank swept it under the rug because of his friendship with Ross,
but he could get the case reopened if he made it sound like there was
corruption involved. Blake realizes that if Ross is charged, she will
get to keep her children because the courts wouldn't award custody to a
man charged with attempted murder. Ben is sure they can win, but Blake
doesn't think she can go through with it.

POLICE DEPT: Alan arrives in response to a call from the police. The
cops want to talk to him about Annie. Teri says Annie contacted Reva.
Reva says Annie tried to kill her, again. Alan maintains that Annie
never tried to kill Reva, but Reva says Teri saved her from certain
death at the carousel. Alan tells Teri that Josh & Reva tend to
exaggerate when it comes to Reva. Annie is not an angel, but she's no
killer either. Josh tells Alan about the note that Annie left. Reva says
the cops found a body bag, a shovel & duct tape in the car that Annie
abandoned. Teri asks when Alan last saw Annie. He says it was right
before Annie escaped from jail. Teri asks him to explain the cufflink
found at the scene. Was Annie keeping it as a memento? Or could Alan be
lying?

MILLENNIUM: Vicki & David sit & chat about her experiences at Spaulding.
She tells him how she made a plant manager squirm. David knows the
feeling. Vicki invites him to dance.

Michelle, Dahlia & Bill arrive & admire the club. Drew welcomes them
coldly. Jesse grabs Michelle & sweeps her off her feet. Bill asks Drew
to dance & Dahlia is left on her own to watch from the sidelines.

Harley's beeper goes off & she pulls it out of the top of her dress.
Phillip reads over her shoulder & asks why the Detroit police would want
to contact her. Harley says she's doing a background check on Teri.

POLICE DEPT: Alan stares at the cufflink & says he doesn't know how
Annie got it. He says she gave him a pair of cufflinks like that on the
day they were supposed to get married. Teri asks how it got into Annie's
car. Alan has no idea. Josh suggests that Alan dropped it when he was in
the car with Annie. Alan says when he realized his marriage with Annie
was off, he got very frustrated & threw the cufflinks at Annie. He
assumes she kept them. Teri wonders why. Alan says it must have been for
sentimental reasons. They would be happily married now if not for Josh &
Reva. Reva can't believe that Alan is still defending Annie after
everything Annie did to him. Alan says Reva backed Annie into the corner
by returning to Springfield. Josh says Alan is as sick as Annie if he
believes that. Annie is a psychopath & she just tried to kill Reva! Alan
wants to leave. Teri asks for the cufflink back & Alan returns it.

Frank returns with a phone number for Annie that he got from the
dry-cleaner. The phone company can gave him her address. He reaches for
the phone.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Holly tries to remind Ross how he used to feel. Ross says
all the feelings he had for Blake were based on an illusion of who she
was. Holly says the relationship was real. She knows because she was the
woman in his life before Blake, and when Ross left her for Blake, she
hated both of them. Ross says Holly had good reason. Holly says she
couldn't hold onto that hate when she saw how much joy Ross & Blake
brought to each other. She asks if he remembers his vows. Ross says
Blake broke every one of them. Holly says Ross knew that Blake was not
perfect. He called her his "flawed jewel." Ross says he didn't ask Blake
to be perfect; he just asked her to be faithful. Holly says Blake made a
terrible mistake. Ross says she made many terrible mistakes & he should
be sainted for the number of times he's forgiven her.

Holly asks why he can't forgive Blake one more time. She doesn't know
why Blake hurt him, or what Ben did to her, but Blake & Ross belong
together. "How can you possibly say that?" asks Ross. Holly doesn't
know, but she wants them to have a happy ending. Ross says that Blake
walked due to her love for Ben, because she couldn't stand to lose him.
"When I left, she just sat in her chair & watched." Holly asks what Ross
would have done if Blake had walked for him. "She didn't," he replies.
He thanks Holly for coming over & promises to think about what she said.
She figures she can't ask for more, and says she'll take a referral for
a lawyer for Ken. Ross says he likes Ken & he'll take the case. Holly
thanks him & says Ross is a good man. "Don't give up on your family,"
she urges. She turns & leaves. Ross looks thoughtful.

MARLER HOUSE: Ben knows Blake still has feelings for Ross, but asks if
she wants to lose her children. Blake says she can't send Ross to jail.
The shooting was a tragic accident. Ben asks how badly Blake wants her
kids. Blake says there has to be another way. Ben says Ross will be
fighting with everything he's got & they have to match him. Blake thinks
Ross will come to his senses. Ben doubts it. Blake has gone too far.
Blake says Ross just isn't the kind of person to go through with it.
Blake hears Kevin crying & says he's having a nightmare. Ross usually
deals with it. Ben tells Blake to bring Kevin down & he'll sit with him.
Blake goes upstairs & Ben settles himself comfortably on the couch.
"This feels nice," he comments.

POLICE DEPT: Reva thinks it's too simple that Annie would be lurking in
town for a month & suddenly they can track her down by a dry-cleaning
receipt. Teri says criminals eventually slip up. They get careless when
they get overconfident. Or maybe Annie wants to get caught. Maybe she's
tired of running. Frank comes back with Annie's address. He & Teri plan
their attack. Unnoticed, Reva goes to a phone & dials. "Annie?" she
says. She turns to the crowd & says it was Annie.

MILLENNIUM: Michelle asks Jesse whose idea it was to hang his artwork in
the club. She thinks it's another one of Drew's ploys to get Jesse into
bed. Jesse says Drew wants to showcase local artwork. Next week, she's
featuring a guy from Chicago. Michelle accepts this grudgingly & admits
that his work does look great. Jesse says everything is going so well.
He's earning money & soon his artwork will start to sell, and he'll be
coming home to Michelle every night. Drew drags Jesse away to go meet
the mayor.

David & Vicki dance. Bill asks Michelle to dance & she accepts. He
notices that she seems awkward around him now. She thinks he knows why.
It's a very weird situation. Bill says he wanted to kiss her, so he did.
They've always been good friends, as she's been trying to remind him.
Michelle says she cares about him a lot & doesn't want to hurt him, but
she loves Jesse & will be moving in with him soon. Bill says he just
wants Michelle to be happy.

MARLER HOUSE: Ben reads to Kevin as Blake brings Jason downstairs too &
sets him on the couch next to his brother. Ben is very reassuring to his
nephews. He says he used to have nightmares when he was a kid, but he
learned a secret to make them go away. After you have a nightmare, you
draw a picture of it. Then you draw a picture of your mommy & put it on
top of the nightmare, and the nightmare is gone. Mommy has the power.
Blake goes for the crayons & paper. Blake asks if Ben wants to draw too.
Ben says he hasn't had any nightmares since he fell in love with her.

MILLENNIUM: Michelle finds Dahlia, who isn't having much fun. She wants
to go home. Michelle tries to stop her, but Dahlia says she's tired. She
heads across the dance floor toward the bar. As she looks into the bar
area, she sees Marcus. She returns to the dance floor & pulls David into
a dance. Marcus sees them.

Harley tells Phillip about Teri kissing Frank. Phillip says Frank is a
grown man who can take care of himself. Harley thinks that with Eleni
out of the country, it's her job to safeguard Frank's family. Phillip
tells her to stay out of it & worry about her own love life.

Jesse asks Michelle to dance. Drew whispers something to a photographer,
who goes up to Jesse & says she wants a shot of him with the owner. Drew
cuddles up to Jesse for the shot. Bill watches Michelle watching Jesse &
Drew.

MARLER HOUSE: Ben talks to the boys as they draw their nightmares. Blake
is amazed & says he doesn't act this way around most people. "Most
people are taller than this," he quips. Besides, Blake is one of the few
people in town who show him respect. Blake says Meta respects Ben &
admitted to falling in love once with someone like him. There's a knock
at the door & Blake answers it. When she sees it's Ross, she goes
outside to talk to him.

Ross apologizes for practically assaulting Blake earlier. Blake starts
to cry. She says it surprised her. Ross says he barely knows what he's
doing these days. One of the boys calls out for Blake & Ross is
surprised that the twins are still awake. He wants to go say good night
to them. Blake tries to stop him, but he enters the house & sees Ben
playing cozily with the boys.

POLICE DEPT: Frank tells Reva she made a really dumb move; now Annie
knows they're on to her. Teri asks Reva what she's thinking. Annie will
be long gone by the time they get to her apartment. Reva says she just
had to know if it was really Annie. Teri puts out an APB on Annie. Reva
& Josh follow Frank out the door, arguing that they have a right to be
there when they capture Annie. Frank says OK, but tells them to stay out
of the way. They leave the police station as the screen fades to black.
