REARDON LAKE HOUSE: Vanessa mopes. Matt understands that she's upset,

but she says she's all right. She knows why she has to terminate her

pregnancy. Matt suggests that they leave for the hospital. Vanessa

doesn't want Matt to come with her.

HARLEY'S APARTMENT: Harley is on the phone, fruitlessly trying to

convince someone to use her & Jenna's services. She hangs up &

complains to Jenna that they lost this client because they dropped

everything to look for Reva's sister, but Reva has now dropped them,

for which she blames herself. Jenna believes she's entitled to a share

of the blame. Harley adds to her list of woes the threatening phone

call from Annie last night. Jenna thinks Harley should have called the

police after what Annie did to her, but Harley says she didn't bother,

since Phillip was there. Jenna perks up, but Harley says it's not what

she thinks. Jenna asks when Harley is going to fess up to her

relationship with Phillip. Harley says they're just friends who

occasionally.... Jenna thinks it's more than that, but she's not

interested for herself, so much as for Buzz. She thinks Harley might

have to explain it to him, since Harley mentioned sleeping with

Phillip while she was drugged, and Buzz heard it all. He might want to

know Phillip's intentions.

DINER: Buzz & Phillip take a booth as Buzz explains that he wants to

talk to Phillip about his relationship with Harley. Phillip says

they're very good friends, but Buzz knows it's more than that. Phillip

says it's really none of Buzz's business. He goes on to say that "it"

happened in NY during the sting on Jeffrey, when they got caught up in

the heat of pretending. Buzz says it's not going to happen again.

Phillip tries to explain to Buzz that he & Harley are grown people who

can make their own decisions. Buzz says he doesn't want anyone using

Harley; she's vulnerable because her marriage just broke up. Phillip

denies that he's just out for a good time & says Buzz is way out of

line. Buzz starts making sweeping generalizations about typical

Spauldings, to which Phillip takes offense. He reminds Buzz who helped

him & Jenna get rid of Jeffrey. Buzz says they've already thanked him

& Harley is not the door prize. Buzz wants to know when Phillip is

going to end "whatever it is." Phillip promises to let Buzz know as

soon as he figures out "whatever it is." Frank interrupts to talk to

Buzz about the woman who's been stalking him.

BAUER CABIN: Nola arrives in the pouring rain with a bag of groceries

& lets herself in. She looks at herself in the mirror & remembers Buzz

telling her that he can marry Jenna. She tells herself that she's

pathetic & that she deserves whatever she gets.

DINER: Buzz asks Phillip to wait while he talks to Frank. Frank tells

Buzz about his research on stalkers. He learned that stalking is a

compulsive behavior, which means Buzz's stalker may have stalked in

the past & might have a record. He hopes they can find some sort of

link by checking computer records. Frank asks whether Buzz can think

of anyone who might have expressed an interest in him in the past, but

he turned down. Buzz says he's been thinking about it for weeks, but

hasn't come up with anything.

Frank pulls out the earring that they found. Eleni thinks it's pretty.

Frank says they haven't had any luck by checking at the local jewelry

stores. Buzz goes back to Phillip. Eleni has an idea for catching the

stalker.

Phillip asks if Buzz learned anything new about the stalker, but Buzz

tells him not to change the subject. Phillip says the other subject

has been exhausted. Buzz says after all Harley has been through, she

doesn't need another man walking out on her now. "Like you did?" zings

Phillip.

HARLEY'S APT: Harley starts railing at Phillip for letting her shoot

off her mouth. Jenna points out that there wasn't much he or anyone

else could do about it. Harley asks Jenna what else she said under the

influence, and starts freaking out about what Buzz might have heard.

Jenna says Harley talked about men always abandoning her, including

her father. And she said she thought sleeping with Phillip was what

ruined things between them. Harley puts her head down.

LAKE HOUSE: Matt refuses to let Vanessa go through the abortion

without him. Vanessa says Jenna has already offered to go with her.

Matt thinks Van is angry because he forced her into this, but she says

she's not. Then she admits she's furious with him for loving her so

much that he doesn't want to lose her. She laughs that when she gets

back from the hospital she's going to have her lawyers contact his

lawyers. Matt gives her a big hug. She says they always talk about her

feelings & they should talk about his. Matt says he loves her. She

knows he would like a child and that he would make a wonderful father.

He asks why she won't let him come with her to the hospital. She

admits she could never go through with it if he was there.

BAUER CABIN: Nola brings in some firewood & tells herself to get over

the self-pity & start thinking. The earring that she lost was one of a

kind & can't be traced. Frank said they had nothing & if the nonsense

stops, it will all be forgotten. "So why didn't I stop before I

started?" She asks herself if she wanted to be caught & Buzz would

tell her she was the one he really loved. She knows if she really

cared about Buzz, she would tell him the truth. She picks up the

phone, but it's dead. She gives herself points for trying. But what

would she have told him, anyway? She has no man in her so-called life,

so she did this moronic thing hoping against hope. She decides that

she's a complete & total idiot. She looks at her one remaining earring

& cries.

DINER: Frank asks what Eleni's plan is. She wants to wear the found

earring. Frank says only guys wear one earring. Eleni says that will

make it more noticeable. If the stalker sees it, there's bound to be a

reaction. Frank promises to take it up with the chief, but he thinks

it's a dangerous idea. Eleni should stick to what she does best. "Like

cooking & scrubbing pans?" she asks, storming into the kitchen.

Phillip & Buzz debate as to which one is taking the cheap shots. Buzz

admits he walked out on Harley, but it was 25 years ago. Phillip tells

Buzz not to lay his guilt about Harley on him. Besides, Harley doesn't

need Buzz to protect her; she's putting up walls all by herself.

Phillip wonders why Buzz thinks he's playing games with her. Buzz

starts to ask something & Phillip breaks out laughing, realizing that

Buzz was about to ask him his intentions. Buzz wants to know. Phillip

understands where Buzz is coming from; he has a daughter of his own.

But he can't give Buzz what he wants because he doesn't know what's

going on with Harley. He can't predict 5 years into the future with

her any more than he can predict 5 minutes into the future. He

promises to always treat her with respect & be honest with her. And he

swears he won't hurt her. Buzz figures he can't ask for any more than

that. Phillip gets up & Buzz follows him out the door for one last

thing. When Harley talked about Buzz deserting her, he realized that

even though it was a long time ago, it still hurts her. He doesn't

want to see her hurt again. "I'd cut my arm off before I'd let that

happen," promises Phillip. He leaves.

HARLEY'S APT: Jenna doesn't understand why it's such a bad thing for

Phillip to know how Harley feels. Maybe he feels the same way. "If he

did, he doesn't now," says Harley. "Every time I give myself away, I

get clobbered!" "Ooh, did Phillip clobber you last night?" asks Jenna

lasciviously. No, says Harley, he pitied me, which is even worse.

Jenna says when Phillip held Harley in his arms, he hardly appeared to

be pitying her. Harley is just mortified that all the time she was

telling Phillip to scoot last night, he knew exactly how she really

felt. Jenna tells Harley to get over it. She has no idea how good

she's got it. Harley thinks she's hardly in an enviable position. "I

hope you never know what real trouble is!" yells Jenna.

LAKE HOUSE: Matt knows today will be really tough for both of them,

but it won't last forever. They'll have a lot of tomorrows together.

They've been focusing on what they're losing & not what they're

gaining. There's a whole world out there for them to see. Matt wants

to see it all with Van. He doesn't want to take for granted one second

of their time together. Van asks if they can spend a little time at

home too. Sure, says Matt, and if she wants to, maybe they could

someday adopt a child. Could she live with that? She nods yes. Can she

live with him? She loves him more than she could ever tell him. Hug.

HARLEY'S APT: Harley asks if there's been more going on with the

stalker. Jenna says it's been on her mind. It's quite clear it wasn't

just a harmless prank. Harley thinks there's something else Jenna's

not telling her. Harley realizes they're not exactly friends, but

they're getting closer. Jenna doesn't want to talk about it & says a

friend would drop it. Harley is willing to do this, but adds that if

Jenna wants to talk, Harley is willing to listen, and it won't leave

the room. Jenna looks ready to crack, but the phone rings, saving her.

It's Vanessa, asking if Jenna can come with her to the hospital. Jenna

says she'll be right over to get Vanessa. [Hmmm, the house on the

island in the middle of Summit Lake just gets closer & closer to

Springfield every day, doesn't it?] Jenna tells Harley she has to go,

and Harley hopes they can continue their conversation later. Jenna

seems less hopeful about this. She opens the door & startles Phillip,

who was just about to knock. She wishes him good luck & rushes out.

Harley asks Phillip to do her one big favor. What? he asks. "Get out

of my life," says Harley, shutting the door in his face.

DINER: Eleni slams around the diner, leaving Frank to realize that

he's got to do some damage control. Eleni hates the way Frank spoke to

her before, like a male chauvanist pig. Frank looks for forgiveness.

Eleni reminds him of Switzerland. She doesn't want to be Mata Hari,

but she also doesn't want to be Suzy Homemaker. Eleni considers

forgiving him. Frank says he hears what she's saying.

J comes in to talk to Buzz. He wonders if Buzz knows anyone who's

looking for a job waiting tables. Nola's not been feeling well &

someone just quit, so he's very shorthanded. Buzz is concerned about

Nola. J says she's been acting weird & out of sorts, so he suggested

she take some time out at the Bauer cabin. Buzz says he's seen Nola a

lot lately & she seemed fine to him. J says she's a good actress.

BAUER CABIN: Nola shivers & sips coffee as she listens to the weather

report on the radio. The storm is stalled over the northwestern part

of the state. Nola looks out the window & fantasizes in black & white:

She's wearing a sparkly white dress & her hair is in a `40s do. Buzz

arrives in a white dinner jacket & asks if it's true that she loves

him as much as he loves her. It's true, she says, but it's wrong. Buzz

asks how loving each other can be wrong. Nola says there are other

people to consider -- Jenna and his children. Buzz thinks they're

entitled to a scrap of happiness. Nola asks how long he can be happy

before he's consumed by guilt. Nola says their memories will keep them

together forever. Buzz wants more than memories. Nola says they'll

always be together in their hearts & they kiss passionately.

Back in the cabin, Nola realizes that she has to get back to reality,

painful as it may be.

HARLEY'S APT: Phillip knocks on the door & asks Harley what's going

on. Through the door, she tells him to go away again. Phillip asks her

to talk to him & says he won't go anywhere until she tells him what's

going on. "What did I do?" he asks. Harley says he lied to her when

she was drugged up in the psycho ward & he let her shoot off her big

mouth to her father.

Phillip sighs & says he tried to stop her, but she was all drugged up

& didn't seem to realize there was anyone in the room with her. She

asks why he didn't tell her later. He says he didn't think it was that

big a deal. He thought it would just embarrass her. Harley says he's

her friend & he's supposed to be honest with her. OK, says Phillip, he

will. Don't bother, says Harley. She already heard it all from Jenna.

Phillip says Jenna didn't hear everything. Harley can't wait for the

rest of the humiliation. "You said that you thought you could love

me," said Phillip. Harley figures that just shows how wacked out she

was. Phillip guesses they both were, because he said he could love her

too. Harley leans against the door, takes a deep breath, bites her lip

& opens the door. She looks at Phillip defiantly.

"I meant it," says Phillip. Harley says it's not possible, because

this never should have happened. It was all an accident. Phillip asks

about all the other times after New York. Harley says it was just

because they were both lonely & vulnerable, having just gotten out of

really intense relationships. They were just in the wrong place at the

wrong time. Phillip says he liked it there, a lot. Harley tries again.

This is the truth: they were both too lazy to do the singles scene. It

was convenient, but it wasn't love.

Phillip doesn't like all the past tense that Harley is using. He

didn't want to get involved any more than she did. He wasn't ready

either. He had all the same thoughts she did. But the conclusion he

reached is that it doesn't make any difference. Why does she have such

a hard time saying anything sincere to him. "Would you believe that

maybe I am scared?" asks Harley. She leans her head against the open

door, near tears.

LAKE HOUSE: Matt wonders if there's any chance Van will change her

mind about him coming with her to the hospital. No, she replies. He

still doesn't understand. She tries to explain. When they first

learned she was pregnant, she had all these wonderful images in her

mind about how things would be. She would see the baby sleeping, &

hear the sound of wind chimes. She still hears it. She realizes this

doesn't really answer Matt's question. Matt says the first thing he

thought of when they found out about the baby was a sand castle.

Matt tells Van about his conversation with Ross about the twins & how

he had to leave the room because he couldn't stand it. He thinks about

the sand castle & says he can hear the wind chimes.

HARLEY'S DOORWAY: Phillip says it's OK to be scared. Harley asks to be

left alone. Phillip says he's scared to death too. Harley just wants

to go back to the way things were before. Phillip says they can't

because the way they feel won't go away. Harley insists it will, if

they try. Phillip asks why they should try. "Why don't we try to give

it a chance?" he asks. "You don't get that many chances." He suggests

they try being scared together. Harley says nothing & just bows her

head. Phillip decides to leave & walks down the hall. Harley calls

after him. "Wait," she says. "OK," she sobs. "OK. Let's be afraid

together." Slowly, Phillip walks back toward her.

LAKE HOUSE: Jenna knocks & Matt answers the door. Van says she's

wonderful for doing this. Van looks at Matt & says it's time. They

stare at each other for a long moment, and then Van leaves with Jenna.

BAUER CABIN: Nola stokes the fire & decides she is going to get her

act together & forget about Buzz. She'll do something useful with her

life, like sign up for an art class, or do volunteer work. She can

worry about other people's problems, people who have real problems.

And she can try to make up for the trouble she's cause. But the first

thing she has to do is get rid of the earring.

DINER: Buzz is sure Nola will be fine, and says he'll take care of

finding a waiter. J sees the earring in the evidence bag & asks about

it. He says it belongs to his mom. Buzz asks if he's sure. J says yes,

because she made it out of a fragment of something they found at a

dig. He starts to take it to return to her, but Buzz says he'll give

it back to Nola himself. J takes off. "Nola. My god," whispers Buzz as

the screen fades to black.
