Following a Summit News Conference, we join GL already in progress...

Courtroom, Vivian's Hearing
Griffin is asked to tell the truth, as Marcus looks on. Griffin says he
shouldn't have stayed in Springfield. But Charles Grant got him the job at
Springfield U, and that gave him an opportunity to stay, to get to know his
son. He didn't know Marcus, but he loved him. He'd never been much of a
father - he left when Marcus was young. One day, he realized he was alone,
and wanted to know his son. So, he decided to stay. He wishes now that he
hadn't.

Dig Site
Quint and Nola are examining a piece of pottery that Quint found in the
exact spot Nola told him to dig. Quint raves about what a rare find it is.
"Is this what I think it is?", Nola asks.

Rick, on his knees, is begging Abby for a date. Abby agrees. Elsewhere,
Zach and Michelle are talking. Michelle wants information about Zach - his
last name, where he's from. Zach is saved by Lillian, who wants Michelle
to sort some files for her. After they are gone, Zach remembers another
girl in another hospital. Could this be the elusive Mary?

The piece of pottery might be from the tribe's sacred object. Nola asks
Quint what he's going to do next. Quint says it's his first major find in
years. He's going to to tell everyone about it. "Oh no you're not", Nola
says.

Courtroom, Vivian's Hearing
Griffin continues his story. He was important; people asked his opinion.
He found a cause on 5th Street. Alan Spaulding didn't care about those
people. For a while, we were winning, until Spaulding turned his personal
life into tabloid fodder. It turned him into a clown. His credibility was
gone. He figured he'd recover, but Gilly and 5th Street couldn't. It
wasn't fair that they had to pay for his mistakes. He knew he had to do
something big, something radical. The judge asks, "Mr. Williams, who shot
you?" "I did", Griffin replies. The prosecutor doesn't believe it. The
judge suggests that Griffin consult with his attorney, but Griffin
declines. He has to pay for what he's done. His bodyguard fired the shot,
Griffin continues. The prosecutor accuses Griffin of making this all up to
protect Vivian, his ex-lover. Griffin says Vivian didn't shoot him, and
Rasheed didn't want to either. But Rasheed is very loyal, and Griffin
manipulated him. Vivian doesn't believe it either. The prosecutor asks
where Rasheed is, and thinks it's pretty convenient that he's out of the
country. Griffin launches into detail about the gun that was used, stating
facts that only the gun owner or shooter would know. The court officer
brings in the gun. The details match Griffin's description. Vivian says
Griffin could have died. Griffin couldn't have wanted to commit suicide...
Griffin explains that Rasheed was only supposed to nick him in the
shoulder, but he raised his arm at the wrong time. The judge want to know
why he did this. Griffin explains that he had to get his reputation back.
He became a martyr, and got sympathy back for the people of 5th Street.
Ross asks that the charges against Vivian be dropped. Vivian is free to
go. She wants to know what will happen to Griffin.

Nola tells Quint that he has to wait till his discovery is fully documented
before he goes telling everyone. Quint thinks that will mean a lot of work
before the ground freezes. Who could help him? J? No, he has to
concentrate on school. Nola snidely suggests a grad student - Jessica
could help. Quint says no way, and asks Nola to help him.

Michelle admits to Abby that she really likes Zach. She worries that he's
older than she, and probably thinks she's just a kid. She wonders how she
can find out if she has a chance with Zach without making a fool of
herself. Abby says she's an expert in making a fool out of herself and
tells Michelle she shouldn't play games. She encourages Michelle to tell
Zach how she feels, and see what happens. Michelle doesn't think she can
do that. Maybe Abby could talk to him for her? No way, Abby says. Abby
then suggests that Michelle ask Zach to the re-opening of Company. They
could all to together. Michelle goes for this idea. Outside, Zach talks
to his friend. Zach wonders if "she" (Michelle) is the trouble he was
warned about. Both men look through the hospital window at Michelle and
Abby. Zach is warned not to let anything interfere with what he's there to
do. "And if I don't, what then?", Zach asks, but his friend is gone.

Nola turns down the request to help in no uncertain terms. It would never
work out. There's too many differences between them. Quint promises to be
on his best behavior. Nola reminds him he's broken promises before. Quint
says he can't trust the find to anyone else. Nola finally ends up talking
herself into helping, but reminds Quint it will be strictly business.

Courtroom, Vivian's Hearing
Griffin is remanded to state custody pending charges. Griffin asks to
speak to Marcus before he's taken away. Marcus says there's nothing to
say, but goes to speak with him anyway. Fletcher and Holly discuss the
outcome, and are relieved that Fletcher didn't have to testify. Amanda is
laughing that Griffin is now the laughingstock of the nation, and that
nothing can stop their project now. Alan is more subdued, thinking that
Griffin did a brave thing, putting his life on the line for what he
believes. In another, private room, Marcus tells Griffin to say what he
wanted to say. Griffin wants to try to explain - not what he did, but why
he took so long to say anything about it. Marcus, hurt and angry, reminds
Griffin of the days he spent praying that Griffin would live, and that the
police would find the coward who shot him. "And there you were, in all
your intensive care glory, making a fool out of me." Marcus wants to know
why Griffin said Alan Spaulding's name while he say lying on the stretcher.
He tells Griffin that he accused Alan, threatened him, and had him
followed, all because Griffin led him to believe Alan was responsible.
Griffin says he didn't know he'd said Alan's name, but he *does* blame him
for everything. Marcus says Griffin is a hypocrite, and a lying coward.
He's not a martyr or a hero. Griffin says he loves Marcus, and that's not
a lie. Marcus laughs. Marcus thinks that when all this hits the
newsstands tomorrow, Griffin will be the most hated man in North America.
"And I think you know where I stand." Marcus leaves. Back out in the
hallway, Dahlia talks to Frank and Eleni about Griffin's misdeeds. Didn't
he know how much this would hurt Marcus? Sometimes parents make mistakes,
Frank tells her. Buzz, Reva and Josh think Griffin is still the man they
thought he was, because of the way he confessed. Maybe they could start a
legal defense fund for him. Josh goes off to discuss it with Ross. Reva
thinks she and Buzz should go home and try to resolve their differences,
but Buzz has to get back to the diner.

Cedars
Rick reminds Zach that Michelle is young, and underage. Zach thinks it's
great that Michelle has a big brother to watch out for her. Rick departs,
and Zach runs into Michelle. She asks him to Company's re-opening.

Dig Site
First sign of trouble, and she's out of there, Nola tells Quint. Quint is
agreeable. OK, says Nola, first thing we need is clean tools. Quint
gathers up the tools, thanking Nola over and over for helping.

Courthouse
Marcus sits with his head in his hands, crying. Dahlia comforts him.
Elsewhere, Fletcher tells Griffin he did the right thing. Charles Grant
says he doesn't approve, but understands, and thanks Griffin for coming
forward for Vivian's sake. Frank arrests Griffin for Criminal
Solicitation, Conspiracy, Hindering the Prosecution, and Fraud. Frank
leads him away while reading him his rights. Everyone drifts off, and
Vivian is left standing alone in the hallway.

Cedars
Michelle explains to Zach that Rick and Abby will be there, too. Zach
hears his friend's warning about staying on track, but agrees to go with
Michelle. Freeze on Zach smiling at Michelle.
