My apologies for there being no Thursday updates for the last two weeks.
I went out of town and arranged for an alternate updater, but for some
reason she never posted the updates and I haven't heard from her since.
Anyway, I'm back, so here goes...

GUIDING LIGHT "THURSDAY ON FRIDAY" UPDATE -- THURSDAY, OCT. 12, 1995

"A Night at the Towers / A Nightmare in Goshen"
                              or
                        "Try, Try Again"
Written by Betsy Tooker-Transom & directed by Jo Anne Sedwick.

Highlights:
* Rog tries to thwart Dinah's plans to remake WSPR in MTV's image.
* AM tries to help Lucy keep her mind off her impending test results.
* Brent tries to make trouble for Lucy & penetrate Cedars security.
* Cassie tries to make sure that Brent isn't getting into more trouble.
* Alex tries to slip off to Goshen, but acquires an unwelcome companion.
* Marcus tries to make friends with Amanda.
* Reva tries to escape her returned memories & Alan tries to convince
her that she's not seeing the whole picture.

THORPE PENTHOUSE: On the phone, Dinah berates some poor news director at
WSPR about the boring newscasts. She wants them to be more fun. "Get a
few more cameras; move the anchors around!" The set has to be enlarged.
"Knock down a few walls. Better yet, put them in a store window!" The
director is obviously unimpressed; threatens his paycheck & gives her
credentials as a major investor & Roger's wife. Rog enters & takes the
phone from Dinah. "Don't you ever do that again," he warns her.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Lucy brings a report in to AM & he suggests they
leave early for a night on the town. He'll take her to dinner anywhere
she wants. New York? New Orleans? Lucy says they can have a good time
anywhere & suggests the Towers Club. She knows he's trying to distract
her from worrying about her HIV test results. "Is it working?" he asks.
"So far," she admits. Out in the reception area, Marion listens via
intercom. "No way she has the HIV virus," (s)he says redundantly. "I
could have told her that."

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex searches through her maps, but can't find one
for Indiana. She screams for Nettie the maid & curses her slowness,
wishing for Ginger & Donna (who I presume are vacationing at Dr. Rick's
suggestion). Nettie delivers a package from the auto club. Alex asks if
Amanda is settled & tells Nettie to pack her a bag for a couple of days
& not to mention to Amanda that she's going away. Nettie exits & Alex
calls for a limo & driver. (Apparently her chauffeur is on vacation
too.) She informs the dispatcher that she's going to Goshen, Indiana.
Amanda enters & asks Alex what's up.

GOSHEN: "Reva! Reva!" screams Alan as he runs toward the swimming hole.
He dives in, fully clothed. (Thank heavens for small favors!) He goes
under again & again, searching for Reva. After about 5 attempts, he
finally surfaces with her & swims to shore. He lays her on a flat rock &
begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

MANSION: Alex says there's an emergency & she has to go out of town for
a few days. Amanda worries whether it's a good idea, considering Alex's
recent poor health, & offers to accompany her aunt. Alex appreciates the
offer, but says it's unnecessary. She thinks the trip will be good for
her. She has to see a friend in the Chicago area. Amanda should stay in
Springfield & catch up with her friends. Amanda wonders it has anything
to do with her own recent arrival, but Alex reassures her that she's
happy to have Amanda in the house. Alex will only be gone a day or two &
wants to hurry back so they can get better acquainted. She encourages
Amanda to make herself at home, then leaves to finish her preparations.
Amanda sidles over to the desk & slips a bill out of an envelope full of
cash. "As you said, I'm at home," she smiles.

SPAULDING: Lucy isn't sure they should go to the Towers. AM says they
can go to the diner if she wants to be with her family. She admits she
hasn't told them about the test because she didn't see any point in
making them suffer along with her while she waits for the results.
She'll tell them tomorrow as soon as she knows. They open the door &
Marion is right outside, with papers that AM needs to sign. While he
does so, Marion asks Lucy how she's doing & offers her support. Lucy
says she's fine & she leaves with AM.

As soon as the elevator doors shut, Brent jogs out to the reception
area. "OK, Cedars, here I come!" He dials into the hospital lab, but is
frustrated when he is denied access. Seems they've changed the password.
He wonders what "those simple-minded idiots" would change the password
to. He tries a few things & is finally rewarded with Program Manager,
which we are supposed to believe is the lab's front-end. Double-click on
an icon & up pops a spreadsheet of patient information. Buzz enters,
taking Marion by surprise. He asks if Lucy is around & Marion says no.
"What are you doing behind her desk?" he asks suspiciously.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah complains about the boring news--it's no surprise
WSPR's ratings are "in the toilet." (Sort of like GL's? Maybe they
should get some more cameras & tape in a store window!) Rog is surprised
that Dinah has been watching the news. "After all the money I've
invested? You'd better believe it!" She thinks the directors need to
watch some music videos so they can give the news some "zip" & "get it
hopping." Rog listens impassively, then lands a big smackeroo on Dinah's
lips. She knows he's trying to distract her. He says he'd love to hear
all her "clever" ideas, but business is the last thing on his mind. She
needs a diversion & so does he. She likes that idea. They kiss again &
Rog gives her butt a little slap. He tells her to put on something
"sexily sinful" so they can go out on the town. She just bought the
perfect dress & goes to put it on.

Rog calls the station & talks to Howard, the guy Dinah spoke to earlier.
Everything Dinah said to him should be ignored & if she ever again
meddles in station business, Rog wants to know immediately. Dinah
emerges in a slinky silver dress. Rog thinks she looks "positively
ravishing" & suggests they go raise some hell.

TOWERS CLUB: Marcus & Hamp play a saxophone duet as Springfield's
yuppies arrive. Nick & Susan greet AM & Lucy. Lucy looks very
sophisticated in a black dress, with her hair upswept. Susan wears one
of her standard garden-party flowered numbers. The two couples agree
that they both want some time alone & head to separate tables.

Ross & Blake chat over cocktails. He thinks she looks beautiful & he's
lucky to have her as his wife. He toasts to sheer perfection. "Even if I
can't get pregnant?" she asks. "You will if you think positive," replies
Ross. Blake decides that she's drinking her last drink, vowing to follow
the healthy regimen of someone who is already pregnant.

Amanda enters & Marcus is immediately intrigued. He plays a special riff
just for her. Amanda thanks him & they exchange meaningful eye contact
before she makes her way through the room. She greets AM & Ross in
passing. Ross wonders what she's doing there. "I can't imagine," says
Blake jealously.

Marcus meets Amanda at the bar & offers to buy her a drink. He can't
think of a better way to spend his break. "How did you know I've always
had a thing for saxophone players?" she wonders. Marcus's evening is
looking up. Amanda waves to Ross & Marcus deduces that she's not new in
town. She notes that she used to live here, but things have changed.

Ross thinks Blake is being silly to think that Amanda came to the Towers
because of him. Ross thinks hunger is the explanation. Blake says she's
used to her husband being irresistible to the opposite sex. "Give me a
break," says Ross. "That's not all I'd like to give you," teases Blake.

Rog & Dinah enter & Hamp greets them. Rog wants the best table, but Hamp
says it's taken, so they'll have to take second best. [There's a dig in
there somewhere, I'm sure.] Dinah spots Marcus & runs over to say hi,
but he tells her he's "kinda busy right now." Dinah is miffed, but Rog
tells her to forget it as they head to their table.

MANSION: Alex is on the phone again, giving the limo dispatcher hell
because her car is 35 minutes late. She insists that the driver be
someone who's "on the ball" and knows the meaning of discretion. Nettie
announces that the limo has arrived & Alex requests that the driver come
in to get her bag. She looks at Alan's picture & tells him that the trip
had better be worth it. "Cool you engines, Queenie, it's rush hour out
there!" says the driver, who happens to be Hawk Shayne. Alex scowls.

GOSHEN: Revabecca sputters back to consciousness (the shock of having
Alan's lips touch hers was enough, no doubt). He holds her as she coughs
& cries that she can't breathe. "I want to die, I want to die!" she
insists. Alan says she's safe. "Alan, Alan Spaulding!" she says, then
hugs him as she breaks down crying. He tells her it will all be OK, but
she says it never will be again. She sounds exactly like Reva now as she
explains that when she came close to dying, everything came back to her
--she remembers it all. "Please help me! Oh, god... I am Reva Shayne."
She grabs her clothes & runs up the hill.

TOWERS: The Fab Four gab about Thanksgiving plans & decide to celebrate
together. Lucy says she can't cook a turkey in the yacht's galley. She &
Susan talk about all the scrumptious food they would make & Nick
suggests they do it at the boardinghouse. AM doesn't think they should
let Lucy cook & makes her to tell them about 2 previous turkey disasters
(one of which was leaving the bag of giblets inside the turkey, which is
what Nadine did a few years back, as I recall). She vows that this year
she will make the most perfect Thanksgiving ever, then breaks down in
tears. Nick tells her she'll be fine & whatever happens, she won't be
alone; she has friends. Lucy & AM go off together & Nick asks Susan what
she thinks. "She'll be OK. She has to be," says Susan. Nick hugs her.

SPAULDING: Marion explains that her computer is on the fritz, so she's
using Lucy's, since Lucy & AM left early. Buzz asks if Lucy's OK &
Marion says she's as good as can be expected, under the circumstances.
Buzz insists that Marion explain. Marion "reluctantly" reveals that Lucy
is waiting for the results of her HIV test. She mutters to herself that
Lucy will never forgive her. Buzz demands to know where Lucy & AM went &
Marion says she thinks they're at the Towers. "You won't tell them I
opened my big mouth, will you?" she asks as Buzz boards the elevator. As
soon as the doors close, Brent goes back to work. He retrieves the
patient record file (it's in Microsoft Works) & gets a message that the
file is locked & he cannot change the data. He moves down to the line
containing Lucy's patient number & starts tabbing across the columns.

GOSHEN: Reva is in her special hayloft, staring out the window as she
cries & remembers her former life... wearing a sparkly red dress in
front of a mirror... kissing Josh as a teenager... baptizing herself the
Slut of Springfield for the wheelchair-bound Josh... a scene with Hamp
in her post-partum red period... Rog taking revealing photos of her
during that same period... getting a massage while asking Alan why he's
come all the way to Tulsa just to see little ol' Reva... suicidally
jumping off a bridge in a snowstorm... entering Josh's bedroom in just a
teddy... being pulled into the Jacuzzi by a furious Josh... driving off
the unfinished bridge in Florida. Alan pounds on the door, shouting,
while Reva sits in the corner, crying desperately.

TOWERS: Marcus confirms that Amanda will still be there when he finishes
his next set. He heads for his sax & Dinah tells him he's making a major
fool of himself. "Wishing you married me instead of whats-his-face?" he
suggests. Dinah thinks he still thinks she's crazy for marrying Rog.
"You said it, not me," he answers. He thinks she shouldn't leave Rog
alone too long, or he'll forget who he came with. "Never," smiles Dinah.
Rog is crazy about her, she insists. Marcus wonders whether she'll ever
admit she was wrong. "I never am," she replies. She thinks Amanda is
"way too old" for Marcus. "You oughta know," he retorts.

Dinah tries her luck with Ross. She thinks he looks spiffy. Ross is not
very communicative, so she gives up gracefully, wishes him a good
evening & rejoins Rog. She puts on a smile & says everything is perfect,
but Rog knows better. She admits that Marcus & Ross were pretty cold to
her. "We've got each other, honey, and that's all we need," says Rog.

At the bar, some half-drunk guy in a suit comes on to Amanda, but she's
not interested. He's persistent, but she puts him off & walks away.

Blake sees Ross watching Amanda & suggests they get it over with by
inviting her to join them. Ross doesn't think the offer is genuine, but
Blake says it would be better than watching him watch Amanda. Ross just
can't get over how much Amanda has changed. "When we were togeth-- when
I knew her, she was so shy, she was like clinically repressed," he says.
Blake thinks Amanda doesn't have a repressed bone in her body. That's
Ross's point -- she's changed. "She got older," says Blake knowingly.

AM introduces Amanda to her cousin Nick. Nick introduces Susan to
Amanda, then Lucy & Susan head to the ladies room. Nick learns that
Amanda is staying with Alex & figures his mom will enjoy the company.
Amanda's not so sure; she thinks Alex wants to keep an eye on her.
Amanda reveals that Alex left on a trip, & since Alex isn't a very good
liar ("She should be; she's had enough practice," interjects Nick)
Amanda thinks she's off to find Alan.

MANSION: Alex screams into the phone, refusing to believe there are no
other drivers available besides Hawk. "I would rather have a deranged
monkey driving my car!" Hawk takes the phone from her & hangs it up,
telling her to hold onto her girdle-straps. He says there are no other
drivers available for a couple of hours, but she doesn't want to wait.
He tells her to make up her mind--is she going to go with him or sit
home on her "ample keister"? Alex can't believe Hawk is capable of
driving; she doubts he knows right from left. Hawk worries about her
blood pressure & notes that the veins are practically jumping right off
her forehead. Alex wonders why on earth Hawk is driving a limo & he
admits that Josh threatened to throw him out unless he got some work. He
preens in front of the mirror & says women go wild over a man in
uniform. He puts on his cap & asks if they're going to hit the highway
together or not. Alex whacks him on the arm.

GOSHEN: Alan climbs into the hayloft & Reva tells him to go away. She
doesn't want anyone to see who she really is. "They'll despise me!" Alan
doesn't get it. Reva says she remembers everything. "I thought I could
bury it & make it all go away... but I remember. I remember who I am &
what I've done. I am Reva Shayne--the Slut of Springfield." She says
Alan was right about her all along & should have let her drown.

TOWERS: Rog & Dinah dance, then Rog decides to go talk to Blake. He asks
who Ross has been ogling. Blake tells him to mind his own business. Ross
returns & Blake says Rog was just leaving. She & Ross head for the dance
floor, where Ross tells her not to concern herself with what Rog & Dinah
do. Blake knows Ross is still concerned about his daughter, but Ross
says Blake comes first, until she has a baby, & then they'll both come
first. Amanda stands with her back to the bar & stares out at the room.

Buzz catches up with Lucy outside the ladies room & she realizes that he
knows about the test. She doesn't care who told him. She tells Buzz
she's OK. Buzz offers to take her back to the diner & cook food for her.
He wants to help her through it. They hug; AM enters & sees them.

SPAULDING: Brent calls his sister, who has no idea that her brother is
wearing a dress & wig & fingernail polish while he talks to her. Cassie
is relieved to hear from him & asks where he is. He assures her he's
nowhere near Springfield & he has a brand-new life. She's glad, because
that's why she helped him fake his death. She couldn't bear to see him
go to jail; he deserved a 2nd chance. "None of those people are ever
going to screw with my life again," Brent vows. Cassie is concerned. She
asks him to swear that he hasn't gone near AM or Lucy. He tells her he
has everything under control. He promises that he's let it all go.
Cassie says he has always had problems doing that; he's always looking
for payback. He couldn't even forgive their mother after she died. Brent
looks angry, but tells Cassie that things change. She wants to know
where he is & asks for his number. He says good-bye & hangs up.

GOSHEN: Alan says Reva can't have remembered everything, but she says
she remembers enough to know that she was a slut, a tramp, a user. Alan
grabs her & tries to shake some sense into her He says she's a
passionate, loving, giving woman who lived life to its fullest. He says
he knows the pain she's going through. Reva wants him to let her go, but
he refuses. "I won't let you do this to yourself & I won't let you go."

TOWERS: Rog toasts to a delightful evening. Dinah says he's not going to
distract her from the changes she wants to make at WSPR. He denies this,
but she knows him as well as he knows her. She plans to turn the station
upside down. Rog smiles & says indulgently that she's adorable, "but
you'll change the station over my dead body." Dinah laughs, "You're on!"

Marcus gets a break & invites Amanda to dance. The guy who came on to
her earlier grabs Marcus by the arm & tells him to leave her alone
because he doesn't belong with her. Marcus tells the guy to remove his
hand, but the guy call Marcus "boy" & tells him to get lost. This
prompts Marcus to punch the slimeball in the face, knocking him back
against the bar.

GOSHEN: Alan says he's not going away & Reva won't be alone anymore. He
cradles her & tells her everything will be OK. She cries in his arms.

SPAULDING: Alex tells Hawk to grab her bag & get going. Hawk asks where
to & she reveals their destination. He's never heard of Goshen, but then
again, who has? "There's something there that I want & I'm going to get
it." Alex strides out & Hawk follows as the screen fades to black.
