               OR
WHO KNOWS WHAT THE THEME IS IN S'FIELD DAY

TBIMOT HIGHLIGHTS :

FROGGY goes a courtin' in Amishland
ALEX sweats in the Boardroom over Nick and her project
AM and LUCY take a test and face uncertain results
SUSAN finds herself in the middle and finds no refuge in the
   Ladies
MMM plays fast and loose with the computer again
FRANK mixes it up with CLEARY at Cadet School to CUTTER's
   displeasure

LET THE SHOW BEGIN

GOSHENBEND:
Revecca finds Sleeping Beauty (I mean Alanspaulding) sprawled
out on the floor of her cottage, and kneels by his side asking
if he is ok.

SPAULDING BOARDROOM:
Alex stands over the board table saying, "Location, location,
location." AM wonders if she is going into real estate or if her
mantra has some deeper meaning. Alex explains that the most
important thing about any meeting is location; you don't want
huddled heads harboring plots. Alex tells the oh-so-efficient
MMM to make sure she separates the pros and cons. AM wonders
if Alex is up to the meeting since she was flat on her back
with food poisoning yesterday. Alex, who is really in quite a
dither, sputters that it hasn't affected her mental capacity,
that she is still as alert as ever, and that the meeting is
tres important. AM comments that she never has been so edgy
over a simple meeting, but Alex says this is her satellite deal
that could be huge. AM attempts to soothe her by telling her
he is sure it is going to fly. Alex asks 3M about the budget
projections, and {s}he says she gave them to Lucy first thing
this morning. AM goes out into Lucy's area (desk, office?) and
asks 3M if Lucy seemed ok in the am. Ms. Doubtfire offers to
hunt Lucy down for him and heads for the elevator.

VOICE OVER OF CUTTER :
"Most of you know about the murder last night on the docks. We
want it solved..."
CUT TO: CADET LECTURE ROOM:
Cutter is explaining that this will afford the cadets the
opportunity to see how the department handles a homicide
investigation (Better than the LAPD, I hope). Frank asks Cutter
if he knows what kind of knife was used in the attack. Cleary
butts in to offer that it was probably a 6" Blackburn. Cutter
sarcastically comments, "We hear from another precinct."
Not taking the hint, Frank and Cleary trade insults:
Frank: "Guess this is one of your hunches."
Cleary: "It is an educated guess based on what I saw of the
wound and what I know of the circumstances."
Frank: "I'll wait for forensics."
Cleary: "It'll fit in your purse and is vicious."
Frank: "You know who the perp is, right?"

SPAULDING LADIES ROOM:
Lucy jumps as 3M asks her if she is all right "honey." Lucy
doesn't want to talk about it, but 3M guilt trips her by saying
she thought they were friends. She ends up telling Maid Marion
that she is taking the HIV test today and she is scared. MMM
rubs her shoulders while telling her everything will work out
the way it should. Her hands with the red taloned nails meet
in front of Lucy's neck, and look as though she is about to
strangle Lucy as she tells the unsuspecting dope that "her
suffering will be over before she knows it."

TWIRL LIGHTHOUSE

REVABEND:
When Alan doesn't wake up, Revecca starts _praying_ over him.
Alan jumps up, crying , "Got ya!."
Revecca: "You ... you ...
Alan: "Reprobate ... Scalawag ..."
Revecca: "You son-of-a-b..."
Alan teases Revecca that she will have to ask for forgiveness,
while she sputters about what a dirty trick it was. Alan doesn't
think it was any worse than sending in the dog when she
promised to be there herself. Revecca claims she didn't make him
any promises, that it was his own foolish pride and ego that
led him on. Alan declares that they both know who wins the
sweepstakes on dirty tricks. Alan claims to be touched that
Revecca was upset to think he was hurt, but Revecca declares
that Mr. Spaulding is way out of line. Alan wants to be called
"Alan." Revecca reminds Alan that he promised to help bring in
the harvest, and wonders if he knows how. Alan quips it is
"bringing in the sheaves," and "we come rejoicing." He tells her
that he has always wanted to live this kind of life. Revecca
looks skeptical and goes to do chores, while Alan declares he
is going to win her yet even if it breaks his back.

SPAULDING BOARDROOM:
Alex asks AM if he has spoken to Mel Hargrave since he is so
balky about new things. AM tells her he did so yesterday, but
Mel went through his usual song and dance and he wouldn't want
to hazard a guess on his vote. Alex flutters around as AM
tells her that he and Lucy have an important appointment and
will return shortly. Alex huffs and puffs about why AM would
over schedule himself on such an important day. When AM tries
to explain why his appointment is important, Alex nags about
the importance of her meeting and how she needs Spaulding
solidarity. Susan gives AM a press release. Alex compliments
Susan on her work, and a sullen Nick tells her to knock it off.
"You can back and fill all you want, but this is one deal that
is not going down."

LADIES:
Ms. Brentfire continues massaging Lucy until she grimaces, and
3M wonders (hopes) if it is hurting her. Lucy says it actually
felt sort of good, and 3M must have been a masseuse in a
previous life. Lucy mutters about how much she hates Brent,
first the rape and now putting her at risk for this horrible
disease. 3M slips and tells Lucy how fortunate she is to be
engaged to a man who understands. Lucy is suspicious since the
last time she talked to MMM she was dead set against it. 3M
recovers by mentioning that she noticed the ring and assumed
it was from AM. Lucy vows to be strong for AM today, and 3M
tells her that from the first day they met she has sensed
that Lucy is a bit of an actress who can make AM believe
whatever she wants. As Lucy leaves, she notices a smudge on
3M's head and offers her compact. 3M declines saying she has
her own, and notices that there is a laceration on her
forehead.

CADET SCHOOL:
Cutter, bending over a chalk outline, declares that "what we
have here is a "
Cleary: "Crime scene"
Cutter compliments Cleary on her roll and asks if she would
like to take over class while he grabs a cup of coffee. Cleary
apologizes while Frank chortles. When she promises to shut up,
Frank loudly declares that that will be a first. A fellow cadet
implores them to knock it off. Cutter lectures on the
importance of time to a crime investigation. He describes the
stab wounds, one of which pierced the heart. Frank comments
that rapists don't have hearts. He and Cleary get into it again.
She points out that his personal feelings are clouding his
thinking, i.e., the record of the perp doesn't mean he was a
rapist this time. Cutter calls a break while they wait for
additional forensic results.
Cutter asks for a word with the battling duo. He tells them
that he thought they worked out their differences after the
diner robbery. If they continue to take potshots during his
class, he threatens that there will be dire consequences. The
Boobsey twins start sniping the minute Cutter leaves the room
about whose case it is. Cleary thinks it is hers since she was
first on the scene, Frankie because his sister found the body.
Cleary tells Frankie that she is gonna solve the case and he
is gonna keep his nose out of it. Frank tells her not to count
on it.

3M IN TOIDY:
Ms. Brentfire is pawing through her purse ranting about what
"they've" done to her.

BOARDROOM:
Alex appeals to Nick to get past this, but he tells her to
forget it. Alex says she knows what she did wasn't very nice,
but Nick tells her it was despicable. Alex tries to sell him on
the idea she did it for love and concern for him. Nick tells her
that she almost ruined a friendship that is one of the best
he's had in a long time, and that he hasn't even started in on
what the lies did to Susan. Alex and Nick go on and on about
previous apologies, and whether she ever really meant them.
Nick tells Alex to stay out of his life. Susan listens to both
of them arguing over her. Nick tells Alex that her going through
the emotions is getting old and stale. AM tries to calm Nick
telling him that this isn't helping , but Nick claims it is helping
him. Susan says, "Since I'm the center of all this, I think I
should be able to say something." She tells Nick what she is
going to say probably isn't what he wants to hear. She tells
him that time is precious, and if the two of them want to waste
it fighting that's ok, but to leave her out of it. "You can beat
up on each other all you want but I don't want to be the stick
you use to do it." Exit Susan.
Lucy tries to talk to her as Susan zooms by her area, but
Lucy is waylaid by AM. He tells her that he will explain it all
on the way to Cedars. Lucy tells AM he really doesn't have to
go, but he reminds her that its both of them through anything
during the duration.

LADIES:
Susan enters and doesn't seem to notice what 3M is doing. She
shakes her head when she spots MMM as if to say "just what I
need."

PART TWO

LADIES:
3M tells Susan that she looks upset, but Susan blames the
lighting. 3M insists its more, but Susan tells her to give it a
rest, she doesn't feel like sharing. 3M says that since Susan
seems so determined to give her the cold shoulder she is going
to put her cards on the table (Tarot, anyone?} In a prissy tone
she asks Susan to do the courtesy of listening to her for a
few brief moments. 3M tells her that she overheard Susan's
conversation with Lucy and is sad that Susan has less than
favorable feelings toward her. Susan accuses her of
eavesdropping, and asks if she wants an apology. 3M says this
is dangerous. divisive, and has no place in business. Susan,
touching a lock of 3M's wig as (s)he pulls away, says that what
she had to say had very little to do with business. 3M claims
to be a forthright woman and wants to hear it to her face.
Susan tells her, "I don't like the kind of attention or advice
that you give to Lucy. Is that face to face enough for you?"

CEDARS:
Lillian is explaining to Lucy and AM that the test won't take
much time, but she will meet with a counselor to take her
through the process. Lillian tells her that Cedars has a great
HIV/AIDS program. AM wants to stay, and Lucy wants him to.
The counselor enters: he is a cute guy with an earring, and he
introduces himself as Wyatt Sanders. Lucy stammers, " I just
expected ...." Wyatt finishes, "a woman ... or a straight person."
He suggests they start over since he certainly didn't want to
put her on the defensive. "I'm Wyatt, I'm gay, I'm HIV positive,
and I'm one hell of a counselor. Let's talk about Lucy."
(Why not. Isn't everyone else?)

SPAULDING ELEVATOR:
Alex runs after Nick as he pounds the elevator button. Alex
pleads with Nick to give her a second (3, 6, 20th?) chance and
after much ranting and raving, Nick takes her in his arms.

GOSHENLAND:
Reva is a her washline fooling with her white, white laundry
(must have used a P&G soap product) and we see other bucolic
scenes: Alan feeding sheep, carrying bales of hay, getting a
dipper of water from Revecca, eating at the threshing table.
Alan is shirtless and planing wood and notices Revecca taking
this in. Finally we see Revecca feeding the chickens, while Alan
(who somehow now has his undershirt back on) watches.

3M TAKING UP PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN THE LADIES:
3M claims that she is picking up vibrations of jealousy and
wonders if Susan is jealous of her friendship with Lucy. She
declares she hasn't heard about that since high school. Susan
snaps that she isn't an adolescent, and 3M tells her to stop
acting like one. Ms. Brentfire declares that she enjoys Lucy's
company and from all appearances Lucy feels the same way.
Susan says it is not her company she objects to, it's her lousy
advice: telling Lucy if she is HIV+ she should dump AM. 3M
murmers that Lucy is worried about being a burden to him.
Susan tells her to let Alan-Michael worry about that, and to
stay out of it. 3M cattily tells her that maybe she lacks the
personal experience that Susan has. 3M claims that if she is a
tiny bit overprotective of Luce it's only because she cares so
very much about her. Susan tells her that many people love
Lucy. 3M says as well they should, and tells Susan she is glad
they have had this little talk. Susan tells her she will be
talking to Lucy too. Ms. Brentfire tells her to do as she feels
best, and "if you ever again feel the need to trash me, I hope
you'll have the guts to do it to my face. You will, won' t you,
dear?"
3M exits the bathroom (finally) to find Nick. When he asks if
Susan is inside, 3M says she thinks they should find a better
meeting place. Nick knocks, and Susan tells him she will come
out this time. She apologizes for butting in with his mother,
but he tells her this lead to a truce. Nick tells her she was
just being Susan.
Susan: "Blunt and tactless."
Nick: " You don't want to be quiet and demure like Marion
Crane?"
Susan: "Marion may be quiet but she is deadly."
Susan tries to explain her uneasiness about Marion and her
fixation with Lucy. She thinks there is something weird about
3M. Nick says he doesn't pay much attention to 3M but maybe it
is because she is lonely and doesn't have men knocking down her
door. Susan tells Nick she is going to keep an eye on
ManMaidMarion.

CEDARS:
Lucy returns from her test, with Lillian praising her for being
very brave. She is given the number (11937) that will be used to
identify her test. Wyatt tells her that he will go over the
results with her in person no matter what they are. The
results should be known by the next day, since the lab isn't
backed up. AM tries to reassure Lucy that the worst is over.

3M AT LUCY'S COMPUTER:
3M pulls out some photos he has taken about Lucy, and declares
that although no Ansel Adams, (s)he's alright. 3M mutters about
Lucy's insurance number, but ends up saying who cares, and
starts typing at the computer.

CADET SCHOOL:
The cadets come back and sit at little school desks. Cutter has
the forensics report. Cleary wants to know if it was a
switchblade, and Cutter says apparently. Cleary wants to know
if it was a Blackburn special, but Cutter tells her to be
thankful for small victories, and not to push her luck. Frank
smirks and Cutter tells him to button up. Cutter talks about
the significant struggle that took place. Frank thinks that
means that the woman leaving the scene probably wasn't the
killer. Cutter wonders how he came to this conclusion. Frank
declares that a woman would not have had the required upper
body strength. Cutter wonders why the woman ran, and Frank
thinks she was a hooker who discovered the body, rolled the
guy, and then scooted off. Cleary can't take "scooted" lying
down, and challenges Frank's assumption that it would be
impossible for a woman to inflict that much damage on a man.
Frank smugly agrees, and Cleary counters, "Ever hear of Lizzie
Borden, Sherlock?"
(As a true crime buff, I must interject here to point out that
the wounds inflicted on Mr. Borden were done with an ax or
hatchet as he was lying down on a couch asleep. Hardly an
analogous situation. Give me a lever and I'll move a mountain or
Mr. Borden)

BOARDROOM:
Alex is telling Victoria how much she has been looking forward
to the meeting. Mel enters, and he sort of looks like he is
giving Marion the eye. Victoria wonders where AM is, and while
Alex is nervously covering, AM arrives "without bells on, but
ready, willing and able."

LUCY'S ANTEROOM:
3M gives a flustered Lucy some paper and a pen and tells her
she will keep positive thoughts about the test. She offers to
store Lucy's purse.
After Lucy enters the Boardroom, 3M sits at her computer
again, but she is having trouble getting in past the new
security system.

FROGGIE GOES A COURTIN':
Revecca gives Alan a rubdown with liniment (no lemons in sight),
then they take a buggy ride (Revecca drives), walk through the
woods and over a covered bridge (the leaves are unturned).
Cut to Revecca's cottage, where he is flopped on the bed. When
Revecca enters with the laundry, Alan tells her she was right
about the harvest; not only was it backbreaking, it entails
skills he lacks. Revecca tells him he is protesting too much,
and that he should be proud of the work he did that day. When
Alan wonders if it is ok to be proud, Revecca tells "Mr.
Spaulding" that there is no harm in pride in work well done.
Alan wants Revecca to call him "Alan," and when she does she
asks, "Does that satisfy you?" Alan characterizes that as a
loaded question, and Revecca says, "Then I'll withdraw it."
Revecca wants to examine his hands, and he takes off her cap.

BOARDROOM:
Alex tells Mel that it is time he looked beyond the 18th
century. She tries to pitch her telecommunications deal, but
the board members think there is too much competition. Alex
badgers the board, until AM intervenes to tell everyone what a
great deal Alex has worked out--a master stroke. He denies
this is just a matter of family loyalty or the party line.
Victoria calls for a vote. When it is pointed out that the
Spauldings have majority stockholder control, Mel counters that
is true only if they have Alan's proxy.
ENTER: a lovely young dark curly headed lady in red telling
everyone that her Dad gave his shares to her.
Alex: "Amanda! My God!"

CADET SCHOOL:
A guy enters with the pathologist's report: between the third
and fourth fingers was a strand of hair. It is chemically
treated, and used only in making wigs.

LUCY'S AREA:
We see Amanda enter the Boardroom and shut the door (sort of
a mini flashback I guess). Cut to MMM who is still at Lucy's
computer hacking away. She claims that they are "good but not
good enough to beat me."

CUT TO:
Green checked shirt sleeve is seen opening a notebook. We see
on the screen:
                          CEDARS HOSPITAL
                          HIV ANALYSIS
A patient number is being typed in: #11937
Other data is on the screen:
Date drawn: 10/5/95 (OJ trouble here, I see)
Risk indicators: Sex partner with unknown risk
Sex: Female
Previous result: None
DOB: 4/26/73
Race/Ethnicity: White
Chemical status: Unknown
LAB TEST RESULTS
HIV ANTIBODY
We now cut to Wyatt, and it is clear he is at Cedars entering
this data.

CUT TO : ManMaidMarion
(S)he just sees a screen of numbers with the various factors
(DOB, sex, race, etc.) going across the screen. It is a summary
of all Cedars HIV records.
MMM: "Which one is you Lucy?" She looks in Lucy's purse:
"Come on Luce, help out little ole Marion, huh, help her out."
3M finds a folded printout where Lucy has written: 11937.
"This is going to be just perfect. I can't believe it." 3M finds
11937 and gloats, "This is going to work."

(Reviewers note: I just can't stand this anymore. Why is 3M
hacking into Cedars hospital right outside AM's office in an
anteway where everyone passes. Why doesn't she use her own
computer in her office, or a laptop at home? Of course, then it
might not have been so easy to find Lucy's ID, but she could
have done that and then do the changing elsewhere. Cedars
really needs a new system, since it was not to many years ago
when Mindy sat at the nurses station and changed Nick's DNA
record)

CUT TO: Tasters choice ad
He: "Is this is getting serious?"
She: "I think so."
He: "How do you feel about it?"
She raises her eyebrows.
He: "Just imagine if you hadn't run out of coffee ..."
She: "Just imagine if you hadn't had Tasters choice."
Cut to: Lexus
Dad: "So tell me, Jeremy, how's your Mother doing?"
Jeremy: "Dad, I think she's in love."
Dad: "Really."

FINIS

Very short credits today (so short that Dan Blather and
newsbreak snuck up on me. I hate it when that happens!)
Afraid I don't know who wrote today's episode, but that's ok, it
was pretty slow anyway.
