		 	Guiding Light Partial Update

				for

			Tuesday October 18th

As is getting to be a habit with me, I've messed up again. I didn't get the
show until into the 40th minute, so we have a very poor and short update.
I wish I could say it was a fluke, but I've determined that I seem incapable
of doing this right. Anyway, for now, pretend that President Clinton's plane
was sitting on the ground for the last forty minutes, and for some reason
your station felt that we all must see it.

==============================================================================

I enter at...

Vanessa describes a widow she knew to Matt. She was a "pretty, charming, and
lonely" woman. Vanessa thought she was a very nice woman, but she was the
"town pariah." She had hired a "college boy" to come to her house and help her
out and a little hanky-panky had go on. She was the "laughing stock of the
town". Matt finds it hard to believe that Vanessa could care what people like
that would think of her, if she were to be involved with a boy like him.
But Vanessa reminds Matt of Family Friends. She tells him she has
responsibilities and that here she is going out with one of these "troubled
youths". She needs to be a role model and how can she? The fact is she had
to care about appearances. Well, Matt has finally had it. He says that she
has finally managed to convince him, and with that he steamily strides away.

Ross, Blake, and Holly on Holly's porch

Blake refuses to sign anything for Alan. Ross looks exasperated and
tells Holly to drop all pretenses, that the evening together is clearly only
for the purpose of getting Blake to do her and Roger's bidding. Blake asks
where Roger went. Holly says she doesn't know, that Roger is an independent
being and doesn't want to have to check in all the time. "Maybe we should
do this another time", she backs down. Ross happily jumps up, ready to leave.
He takes a few pot shots at Roger and warns Holly not to get snarled up in
Roger's messes. Blake says they are worried about her, and they hug and the
Marler's take their leave. Holly grimaces.

Roger and Alan at Alan's Magic Mountain

Roger fixes Alan's flowers and asks Alan a few questions about his
cute nurse and about his romantic desires, thinking that five years in jail
may have left him...a little dry. He is worried that Alan may not be able
to focus on the job at hand. "There are no other pursuits until I get my
company back. What you learn in jail, is how to wait." But Alan is worried
about Roger. He and Holly are "joined at the hip", and what if Holly doesn't
like a direction they choose to go in. Roger says "she wouldn't dream of
holding me back". [uh-oh.] Roger then tells Alan he knows that Tangie is the
one who shot him. They discuss Tangie and agree that she is quite a woman.
A lot of affection from both men is apparent, though with very well acted
differences. Roger is leaving as Alan thanks him for the flowers.

Gilly, Nadine, et. al. at the diner?

The camera rolls. Nadine holds a microphone and says "If you have
a question about love and marriage, you've come to the right place." Buzz
smiles a little, but stares up at the ceiling with this pronouncement.

Alan-Michael and Tangie:

"I guess we need to start at the beginning", the clean-shaven one
says. "Okay, what's the first step?" Alan-Michael says he is going to live
with Alan, because his father needs him, and they are getting along so well.
The disappointment of both of them is apparent, but neither can possibly get
what they want here. They do the rational thing. Alan-Michael asks her to
dinner. She says she needs to check her planner, but hey, she's free. Then
they decide on a day. Tomorrow. "You're in luck," smiles Tangie. "Yeah, I
am," says Alan-Michael shaking off the last vestiges of Eleni at last.

David, Gabriella, and Frank:

Gabriella has been attacked, dragged toward a parking lot. David, who
is holding her, thinks it was the hijackers. Even more, he thinks he has
reason to suspect that it was Matt who set her up. He says that Matt is
guilty of things David is not ready to admit to himself. [Gabriella, for the
first time, knocks me on the floor with her beauty.]

Matt and Vanessa:

Matt decides he cares what people think, too. That he isn't rich
enough to be with a woman like Vanessa, that he is probably just out to get
something from her. But then, he thinks about what his life would be without
her, and all the rest just disappears. He sees her face, her eyes, her mouth.
He leans over to her, and they kiss. Just a little. Vanessa pulls back a bit,
and Matt continues. "We don't have to plan our lives tonight. We don't even
have to plan for tomorrow." But tonight they can share. "What have we got to
lose? Say yes." She smiles, and hugs him. She says "yes", and says it over
and over as we cut to Alan listening and smiling his own big smile.

===============================================================================

Hopefully, again, the stories all managed to work out enough here at the end
for me to get across what happened today. Of course, I've again missed many
a nuance, and in particular, what really happened with Miss Gabriella and her
hijacking buddies is a complete mystery to me.

I will give myself one more chance to quit messing up (more than
the President would give me, I know), and then I will do something drastic.
As always, I apologize for my utter incompetence. Today, in particular, was
all my stupid fault. Oh well, life goes on. It must! :)
