                    *******GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE*******
                       for Monday, October 17, 1994

I'd like to apologize for getting this out so late... work has
been very busy lately, and I'm having to work a lot at night.
Hopefully this won't last much longer!

THE DARK PRINCE RETURNS:

Everyone at Spaulding (Alex, Nick and Lucy) is surprised to see
AM. Alex acts like she was worried about him and says he looks
like he's been through a war. AM says that maybe the war has
just begun. He tells a pompous looking Nick to "get your damn
feet off my grandfather's desk!". When Nick doesn't comply, Alex
asks him to get his feet off the desk. AM and Nick bicker after
Alex tells AM that Nick will be voted in as president soon. Nick
is, of course, a sanctimonious ass.

Alex wants to know why AM is there. AM wants to know what they
think will happen when Alan comes back and finds Nick sitting at
his desk. Alex says Alan will find out that _her_ "branch of the
family" is running Spaulding now. AM notes he didn't realize the
family was split into groups. Alex is suspicious of AN's concern
about his father and wants to know if AM has forgiven ALan for
all he's done to him in the past. AM says he doesn't hold any
bitterness toward Alan. Alex notes it is all directed at her,
and AM says it can change. He doesn't understand why there isn't
room for everyone since they are all Spauldings -- why do they
always have to fight? NicktheDick pipes in and asks who it is
who always fires the first shot. AM looks at the two of them
like he's disappointed and says, "I guess I got my answer," then
turns to leave. NicktheDick stops him to lecture AM on, hey man,
what saints, man, he and Alex are and how AM and Alan, man,
deserve to be cut out. AM is not impressed with NicktheDick's
semi-litterate ramblings, but asks Alex if she agrees. Alex
agrees, saying that Nick, man, speaks for her. AM responds: "You
know, some things don't have to change. Things like taste,
kindness, elegance. Those used to be Spaulding traits, too,"
(shaking his head) "Not anymore." AM stares down NicktheDick and
Alex as he slowly leaves the office. After he is out the door,
NicktheDick is amused by AM's speech. Alex, however, says that
AM's words were not his; they were Alan's. Obviously, AM has
been talking with Alan. Alex knows that Alan and AM will come
after her and NicktheDick with everything they've got.

Outside, in the reception area, AM and Lucy have a touching
conversation where they both admit they did some things wrong in
their relationship in the past, and they are both ready to move
on to other people, all the better for their relationship with
each other.

WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE:

Nadine has a nightmare where she is at the Diner talking to a
pregnant woman who turns into Jenna. Buzz appears, and both Buzz
and Jenna keep asking Nadine if she's alright as Buzz caresses
Jenna's hugely pregnant belly. Nadine awakens with a start and
declares, "It can't be Buzz's baby!"

Later, Nadine enters the diner suffering from bad back pain.
Buzz is concerned about her and starts to massage her aching
back. Gilly comes in and asks Nadine if she'd be willing to host
an advice-giving program for couples to be shot at the diner.
Buzz gets excited and wants to be part of the behind the scenes
stuff. Gilly tells him to cool his jets -- it will only be 5
minute segments on the news to replace a consumer reporter who is
on maternity leave. Gilly wants to shoot a sample segment
tomorrow. Nadine is thrilled and sees it as a sign that things
are going to work out for them. Her back pain appears to be
forgotten.

Nadine wants to make sure that Buzz really wants to work at the
Towers Club. They end up agreeing that they both need some time
away from the diner. Buzz tells Carroll, who has served himself
some coffee, about Nadine's new job. As Buzz runs through sample
titles for the segment, Nadine gets worried about the segment
being shot in the Diner when people really want to see glamour on
TV. Nadine comes up with a plan to use some gold lame' (how do
you put an accent on an "e" in ASCII??) fabric she had saved for
a dress as a backdrop so it won't look like a diner. Nadine
scurries off to answer the phone and Carroll and Buzz both note
that her back doesn't appear to be bothering her as much.
Carroll thinks that with her new job, maybe Nadine will sotp
worrying about things that don't need to be worried about.
Meanwhile, Nadine is on the phone with Jenna discussing their
"meeting." Nadine still wants to speak to Jenna and arranges to
meet her at a little coffee shop. She hangs up and hurries out
to meet Jenna, all stooped and clutching at her back (gee, can we
say psychosomatic?? :)). Buzz notes that Nadine looks like she's
back to being depressed since the phone call.

Carroll and Buzz put up the gold lame' (right by the grill!), and
Carroll comments on Buzz's silver star. He asks if Buzz doesn't
like to talk about it and says that he was part of the 82nd
Airborne. Carroll says he's never seen one of the silver stars
on the wall before. Buzz says it was Nadine's idea. Carroll
asks if Buzz has talked to Nadine about it and they discuss
Buzz's feelings for Nadine. Buzz talks about how he could never
repay Nadine for what she's been through. Carroll notes that
women need more than someone always saying they're sorry.

Out on 5th street, Nadine apologizes to Jenna, saying she didn't
realize the coffee shop would be closed. Nadine cuts to the
chase and tells Jenna that she knows she's pregnant. Jenna tries
to deny it, but Nadine calls her bluff. Nadine wants to know
what Jenna's game plan is, and if she thinks she can spring the
news on Buzz and get some of his Soulmates money in child
support. Jenna tells Nadine that she doesn't know who the father
is, and that she is glad she's having the baby without a man in
her life, because that way she doesn't have to worry about being
abandoned. Nadine knows Jenna is lying and that Buzz is really
the father. Jenna emphatically says that the baby is _hers_ and
there is not father. She warns Nadine that if Nadine wants to
keep Buzz, she'd better keep her mouth shut. As the camera pans
back we see that Buzz has just arrived and sees Nadine and Jenna
talking.

MATT: CRIMINAL, STUDMUFFIN OR BOTH??

At Company, Bridget tells Dylan that the charges against Matt are
real, but that he was set up.

Meahwhile, in Vanessa's boudoir, Vanessa tells Matt that she
thinks things could work out for them. They agree to try.
Unaware that Alan is listening in on their conversation via the
bugged locket, Vanessa says she is afraid that someone will find
out about them. Matt says he doesn't want to hurt her in a very
cryptic fashion. They agree to meet tonight as Jenna pops in for
a lunchtime visit bearing Chinese food. Alan overhears Vanessa
introduce Matt to Jenna. Matt leaves to take his "lunch break"
and Jenna remarks (with a knowing look on her face) that Matt is
rather "yummy." Jenna tells Vanessa that Nadine has frightened
her to death. Vanessa wants to know why. Jenna thinks that
Nadine knows about her "condition", and she is mainly concerned
that Nadine will tell Buzz about the baby. Jenna doesn't want to
share her child with Buzz and "Deenie" :) Vanessa thinks that
Nadine probably wants to meet with her to make sure _Jenna_
doesn't tell Buzz. They chit chat some more about Vanessa's
vacation, clear thinking, and Jenna counsels Vanessa to throw
away any problems she has, to do what she wants and to not care
what anyone else thinks. (If she only knew!! ;))

After lunch, Matt comes back. He wants Vanessa to go with him to
his Uncle Ed's cabin so they can be alone. Vanessa is hesitant
because she used to go there with Maureen and it is the last
place Maureen was before the accident that killed her. Matt
didn't realize that and says they don't have to go there, but
Vanessa agrees to go anyway.

Back at Alan's cottage, he orders Susan to find out everything
she can on Matt Reardon. There's a knock on the door and Susan
answers. It's Tangie, who recognizes Susan from the time Alan
sent her to spy on Tangie and AM. Alan admits it, and tells
Tangie not to be upset. Tangie says she needs to tell AM that
she and Alan knew each other before the shooting. He tells
Tangie that if she has to, she can tell AM about their
"friendship." However, he warns that AM might not understand why
they kept it from him. He successfully plants doubts in Tangie's
mind about whether or not she should tell AM.

Over at Company, Dylan and Bridget argue over Matt's arrest
warrant. Bridget believes Matt's story and Dylan doesn't.
Bridget tells Dylan that Matt is not a liar. She gets Dylan to
admit that he trusts her instincts and he agrees not to turn in
Matt. Bridget goes into the kitchen as David arrives, fresh from
running into Gilly and filling her in on his breakup with Kat.
Dylan fills David in on his conversation with Bridget, and says
he wishes he could tell Bridget why he really agreed to not turn
in Matt. He hopes that if Matt is involved with the hijackers,
he can lead Dylan to them. Dylan asks David to tail Matt (who
has transported in to have a brief convo with Bridget about Dylan
agreeing to not turn him in to the police before rushing off to
do something). David thinks Dylan is wrong about Matt being
involved with the hijackers. Dylan decides he needs to warn
Vanessa about Matt (since Matt is working in the Lewis household)
and leaves. Gabby tries to get David to go on a picnic with her,
but he blows her off to supposedly follow Matt.

Back at Vanessa's, Dylan has arrived and tells Vanessa that he
needs to talk to her when in walks Bridget carrying Peter. Seems
Bridget wants Vanessa to accompany her and Peter to the circus.
(By the way, Peter is very cute, but he keeps squirming around
and saying "I get down!" Let's just hope the writers don't
decide to magically "age" him to get him through this "stage"...)
Vanessa takes Peter off to see "Grampy" and Bridget wants to know
what is going on and why Dylan's there. Bridget figures out that
Dylan wants to warn Vanessa about Matt and begs him not to.
Vanessa comes back to tell Dylan that they'll have to continue
their conversation later.

FINAL MONTAGE:

No one speaks, but the camera pans from one group of people to
another:

On 5th street, Jenna and Nadine see Buzz and everyone stares at
each other. At Spaulding, Alex kisses Nick. After she leaves,
he goes to sit behind the desk and puts his feet up. At the
diner, Tangie is sitting in a booth when AM enters and sits down.
He takes her hand and caresses it lovingly. At Alan's, Alan gets
into bed and Susan brings him an envelope marked "Matt Reardon".
As he looks at the contents, he gets a big grin on his face. At
the boarding house, Matt enters the bathroom to take a shower.
He hangs his towel over the mirror. Vanessa removes her robe
from the mirror in her room and stares at herself. Matt puts on
aftershave and gets dressed as Vanessa puts on perfume and also
gets dressed (in a short black skirt and cream sweater). They
both leave their rooms after getting ready.

That's it!
