GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1994

HIGHLIGHTS
* Van dreams her way through her day
* Bridget learns about Matt's troubled with the law
* Alan & Roger renegotiate their deal
* Nick makes his bid for the presidency; Mindy worries about her marriage
* Blake demands an explanation for Ross's deception

A sunny morning in Springfield, USA...

LEWIS HOUSE: Vanessa smilingly remembers waking up with Matt (we see the
scene through a soft haze & hear them laughingly vow that it will never
happen again).

COMPANY: Matt remembers too, as he drinks her orange juice. Bridget hugs
him from behind & says she's so happy he's staying, she won't even ask
why. Matt flashes her a brilliant smile.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Alex prepares Nick to deal with the board when she
nominates him for the presidency. "You cannot blink. The one who will run
Spaulding cannot blink." She reassures him that he's ready & he's got
everything it takes.

ALAN'S LAIR: A clean-shaved Alan-Michael predicts the market will go
crazy when Alan returns. Alan says he won't be running Spaulding -- Alan-
Michael will.

HOLLY'S OFFICE: Roger tells Holly that everything is falling into place.
"It's payoff time, time to collect," he exults over glimpses of Alex &
son, Alan & son.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Alex tells Mindy she hopes Mindy will "stick to
the game plan." Mindy wasn't aware there was one, so Alex starts
outlining the qualities of a good executive wife. Mindy interrupts to
remind Alex that she's "not some airhead trophy wife" & has been
attending business meetings all her life. Alex dismisses Lewis Oil with a
wave; Mindy allows as how she'll be the perfect corporate wife, `90s
style. Nick, apparently feeling the strain, reminds Mindy how important
it all is. "I know that Nick; I didn't just fall off the turnip truck,"
she replies evenly.

Ross arrives & Alex breezes out to check on some details. Nick pulls
Mindy aside & chastises her gently for making a public announcement of
their private decision (to adopt a child). "We don't have many private
moments anymore," Mindy answers. Nick admits she's right & promises to
strike a better balance between work & personal life.

Board members start arriving. Mindy makes appropriate small talk with
Taggart. Alex calls the meeting to order & says they'll be deciding when
to vote Nick into presidency. A discussion as to Nickypoo's
qualifications ensues: He's only been there a short time, his experience
is in a different field, etc. And, the board was perfectly willing to
accept Alex's last nominee, Alan-Michael. Mindy watches with her usual
sullen expression. The subject of Alan's release comes up. Taggart
suggests keeping Nick as interim president until Alan returns. Nick
speaks up: Alan's experience with Spaulding is in the past & because he
"broke his social contract" he'll be a liability, not an asset. Nick
offers stability & sound leadership. He says he's been successful, as
opposed to Alan-Michael, who "systematically stole clients from our
pharmaceutical division." Alex proposes a vote in 2 weeks.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan wants AM to be president; Alan will be CEO. AM is more
concerned with Alan's recovery. Alan is worried that Alex will make Nick
president in short order; AM is well aware of her plans & expresses his
bitterness about the way Alex & Nick have treated him. Alan asks whether
AM will side with him. He promises to repay his debts & asks for a chance
from AM. AM doesn't want to get anything out of payback. He wants to work
together with his dad to fight for what's theirs.

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh gives Vanessa a new chain for her locket. He comments
that Jenna looked quite alone. Van says Jenna could use a friend. Van
packs up her stuff & says she's got to get going. "Is it Matt?" asks
Josh. Van starts. Josh just assumed Van was rushing to get out of Matt's
way. She agrees & asks him if he'll be coming to the Family Friends
meeting later. He says he might be late. Josh asks if the renovations are
working as a way to tear down her past. She thinks so.

COMPANY: Jet gives Matt a lunchpail she packed (looks more like a picnic
cooler, actually). Matt spies Lucy & joins her at her table. He wonders
why she's alone & she bemoans her single status. Matt suggests a video
dating service & Jet chimes in to suggest that Matt could use some help
in the romance department. Lucy thinks Matt already has a girlfriend.

Outside, Dylan mouths off about to David & Frank that he only put up with
Matt because he's Bridget's brother, but now that it seems he's involved
in the hijacking, all bets are off. David objects that Dylan has no
proof. "I have an opinion," retorts Dylan, adding that he doesn't want
Matt around Bridget or Peter.

Inside, Matt departs, apparently offended. Lucy chases after him to
apologize & offers Matt a ride.

David suggests that Matt wouldn't harm his sister or his nephew, so Dylan
should give him the benefit of the doubt. Dylan is concerned about
Vanessa. "How's she gonna feel when she finds out the guy who's
renovating her bedroom is on a wanted poster?" Jet emerges in time to
hear this last & wants to know what's up.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan asks AM where he's staying. AM says Tangie has invited
him to stay on; Alan says he needn't impose now that he has family to
stay with. "Unless you're a little more involved than I understood." Alan
says no, they're going very slowly, still just friends. Alan invites AM
to move in with him. AM agrees.

JOURNAL: Tangie thanks Blake for filling in while she was out. Blake
looks forward to working for Frank. Blake wonders what's been going on
with Tangie & Tangie is deliberately vague. Blake admits she's seen T's
"mystery man." "And you know who he is?" Tangie asks with alarm.

In Holly's office, Rog relates the shooting tale to a suitably shocked
Holly. He thinks that Alan is behaving an awful lot like someone with a
future for someone who's supposedly terminal.

Out in the newsroom, Blake tells a concerned Tangie about all the
occasions when she saw the mystery man, including one time at Company. At
this reference, Tangie realizes it wasn't Alan & smiles as Blake says
she's surprised at Tangie's taste in men: "You cannot be this desperate!
You can do better than this guy!" Tangie thanks Blake for sharing.

Back in Holly's office, Rog thinks AM will be outmatched once dear old
dad is gone. Holly says she's behind Rog 100%, but worries because
whenever Rog gets involved with Alan, he gets "blown apart." Rog is
confident that they can have it all & kisses Holly enthusiastically. She
hugs him back, but looks concerned.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Alex says good-bye to the board members & then
says Nick really bowled them over. Fletch, Van & the rest of the of the
Family Friends arrive. Ross offers his time to the project & Van turns
him down cold, saying Sid is already on board. Josh & Fletch object,
saying they should take all the free legal help they can get. Van is not
swayed & Ross walks out. Van follows him & berates him for putting her on
the spot after she made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him. Ross
wants to know why Van keeps trying to punishing him. He thought they
could become friends again, but apparently he gave her too much credit.
Ross exits via elevator & Alex sidles up to Van to remind her that with
Alan due in town soon, they can use all the friends they can get.

ALAN'S LAIR: AM sits at Alan's desk & considers the photos of Alan's 3
trustees. Alan asks his son what he thinks of the people. "If you knew
they were standing between us & what we want, would you be willing to
step over them to get it?"

AM doesn't want to hurt anyone. Alan explains that he needs Alex, Van &
Blake to sign over his assets & explains how Blake wound up a trustee. AM
asks whether she even knows she's a trustee. Alan says she just found
out, but ever since she married Ross, she's a complete enigma to him. AM
says she's very happy. Alan thinks they need to understand the "kinder,
gentler Ross" in order to understand Blake. AM fills Alan in on the Peter
custody battle & how it threw a wedge between Ross & Van. Alan remembers
that AM used to date Dinah & wonders what happened to her.

JOURNAL: Ross meets up with Blake. After Ross grouses about Vanessa a
bit, Blake tells him she's upset because he didn't tell her she was
Alan's trustee. "Who told you that? Roger?" asks Ross. Blake says it was
her mom, but it's irrelevant. The point is that Ross didn't tell her.
She's tired of being treated like an idiot child. Ross is distracted by
the sight of Roger & Holly kissing, which he can see through the open
blinds of Holly's office.

In the office, Rog professes his love for Holly & calls her a temptress.
He takes his leave & stops by Tangie's desk to tell her that AM & Alan
can't be trusted. Tangie doesn't want to talk about it. Rog promises that
no one will find out she shot Alan.

OUTSIDE COMPANY: Jet wants to know what's going on & Dylan is willing to
tell her, but David tries to stop him. Dylan sends David & Frank on their
way so he can talk to Jet alone. He tells her that Matt is wanted by the
Indiana police for car theft & assault & battery. Jet insists that it's a
mistake & says she's going to ask Matt about it.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: While the group discusses the plans for Family
Friends, Van's mind wanders to a shirtless Matt. Lucy calls Nick out to
meet with a magazine reporter. Van wraps the meeting up. Everyone leaves
except Van & Mindy, who complains about what work is doing to her hubby.
"What happens to a person when work becomes the most important thing?
More important than love? More important than sharing a life with someone
who loves & cares about you? What could be more important than that?"

LEWIS HOUSE: Matt finds a box of keepsakes & decides to keep a photo of
Vanessa & little Bill (looks like it's from her wedding). Jet runs in &
demands that Matt tell her it's not true that he's wanted in Indiana. He
gets a conciliatory tone, which tells her immediately that he's about to
admit it *is* true. "How could you?" she asks. She berates him for not
telling her & says it could jeopardize her custody of Peter. He tell Jet
what really happened -- the society married woman who panicked. Jet said
she knew he couldn't have done it. Matt asks what Dylan's going to do.
"You can't call the cops on me, Bridge." Van shows up & asks what's up.

JOURNAL: Holly checks in with Tangie. Blake says good-bye & leaves to
have lunch with Ross. Holly's interested in what's been going on with
Tangie, but Tangie speaks in riddles.

ALAN'S LAIR: AM says Dinah ran off to Europe & he hasn't seen her in
years. They reminisce until Roger arrives. Alan promises to explain his
bizarre relationship with Rog later. AM lets Roger in, then leaves his
elders to their machinations. Roger compliments his rival on his powers
of recuperation. He wants to know what Alan's going to give him in return
for taking Harry Jones out of the picture & saving both Alan's & AM's
butts. Alan offers the other 50% of WSPR and $5 million cash. Rog still
has to get Alex's signature. Rog doesn't like this offer; he also wants
the presidency of Spaulding.

COMPANY: Dylan obsesses to Frank about Matt. David comes by & informs
them that the store receipt for the scrimshaw is in the mail.

LEWIS HOUSE: Van came by the house to get a file. Jet explains that she
came by to bring Matt his lunch. She leaves & Van tells Matt she's
decided that maybe things could work out between them.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan insists that the presidency is reserved for AM,
besides, the board would never vote Roger in. As Rog wanders around, he
notices a photo of Tangie. (Hey, didn't Alan tear that photo up in a
previous episode? How many copies does he have?) Rog suggests that Alan
create a special position just for him, like they do in the White House
e.g., Chief of Staff. Alan says it's possible, but it's "contingent on
you supporting my son if ever I should [pregnant pause] step down." Rog
says it's a deal.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: AM surprises Lucy. He walks into Nick's office
unannounced. Nick greets him enthusiastically ("What happened to you?")
Alex strides in & expresses a similar sentiment. Nick asks what AM wants.
AM just wanted to let them both know he was back in town. He faces his
aunt as the screen fades to black.
