Guiding Light Update - realFriday 9/12/97

Highlights:

-Harley moves into Annie's room
-Cassie lets Alan into the Lewis offices
-Hart sees something interesting
-Van and Matt get some news

COUNTY GENERAL: Annie enters her room to find the orderly making a second
bed. He tells Annie that she's getting a roommate and she gets angry and
tries to throw him out. The orderly informs Annie that he's getting paid by
Mr. Spaulding and that's where the roommate idea came from. Annie doesn't
believe Alan would suggest a roommate - and the orderly says it wasn't
exactly that; "Caitlin" told the orderly that she and Mr. Spaulding had
talked it over. Annie starts yelling as Harley/Caitlin walks up and cheerily
says "hi roomie".

LEWIS OIL: Cassie and Alan come around the dark corner and Cassie is
complaining. Alan taunts her that it's just one more thing she has to do to
cash his checks. Cassie - as she lets Alan into Josh's office - can't
believe Alan would stoop to using her child against her and wonders how he
sleeps at night. Alan grins that he sleeps very well and now he can get
what he needs on Josh and Billy - who he doesn't think are known for their
brain power anyway. Cassie tells Alan not to underestimate the Lewises -
and reminds her which side she is on. Cassie says even though she's getting
paid - she doesn't have to like it. Alan tells her he's thought the whole
thing through - everyone is at Cross Creek for H.B.'s burial and the company
is closed so no one will ever know. Cassie says Alan has no respect for
anyone - alive or dead.

CEDARS: Matt and Van arrive for her tests, but Rick isn't there yet. Matt
goes to find Rick and Van stops him - she doesn't want to be alone yet. She
wants to feel as good as she felt last night when they renewed their vows.
Matt assures her that everything will be o.k. - because this time they're in
it together.

LITTLE LIGHT TWIRL

Matt hugs her and assures Van that everything will be o.k. Van agrees. Matt
says that he knows about these things -just like he knew that Van was still
alive and coming back to him. He wants Van to know that she never has to
feel alone anymore - nothing can keep them apart. They kiss.

Lillian and Rick arrive at the nurse's station; Lillian is asking about Abby
and Rick says it's been tough but the trip home should be good for her.
Lillian looks over and sees Matt and Van and hopes this isn't what Van
thinks. Lillian doesn't think Van looks sick at all. Matt and Van walk up
and Van tells them to get the show on the road.

THANK YOU PAMPERS PREMIUM (WITH AIR-FLOW SIDES) FOR THIS PORTION OF GUIDING
LIGHT!

COMPANY: Dinah is munching on a huge salad while Hart is waxing
philosophical about all the things he thought of at H.B.'s memorial: the
family being there, how Peter has such a strong foundation, cycles
continuing. Dinah giggles then says only one person was out of place at the
memorial - Cassie Layne. Hart wonders if Dinah is ever going to give Cassie
a break and Dinah says she isn't. She just doesn't like Cassie and brings
up the morning she found Cassie at the farm with Hart. Hart wants to know
how many times he has to say nothing happened. Dinah wants to know what
they were talking about. Hart says they were talking about kids.

LEWIS OIL: Cassie paces around yelling about breaking in; Alan sits at
Josh's desk reading papers, and sarcastically notes that they didn't break
in - they used a key. Cassie continues to complain and Alan tells her this
is the price of doing business. Cassie tells Alan he's no better that all
the pimps, and pushers she's known. Alan tells her business is business and
roots around in the files - and finds something that looks promising.
Cassie rushes over wondering it is and tries to grab it away. Alan comes
around the desk and pushes her outside - telling her to stay there and
closes the door in her face. Back inside we see that the file is labelled
Reva's sister. Alan reads aloud that Reva has hired Harley and Jenna to
find her sister.

COUNTY GENERAL: Annie tries to push the orderly out again, and he moves her
back into the room - saying that Caitlin said Mr. Spaulding wanted this.
"Caitlin" tries to calm everyone saying this was supposed to be a surprise
for Annie. Annie tells Caitlin to stop with the Mr. Spaulding stuff and
Caitlin asks for a minute alone. The orderly leaves with Annie yelling
after him to get Caitlin out. Caitlin apologizes to Annie for their
(off-screen) attempt to get out for the memorial service and how she didn't
know the window would have an alarm on it! Caitlin says she's trying to
make it up to Annie - Annie wants to know if she's crazy. Caitlin says she
just hyper. Annie wants to know how she knew about Alan and Caitlin says
she read the papers during the trial and put things together - pointing out
that her mind is "sharp as a tack". Caitlin tries to get Annie to
sympathize by explaining about her controlling sister - just like Reva
controlled Annie. Caitlin thinks Reva was a real jerk - coming back from
the dead and stealing Annie's husband. Caitlin tries to get Annie to talk
about it and Annie doesn't want to - then she starts to complain about how
Reva has a way of looking innocent even though she's the one who.....Annie
trails off realizing what she's doing and insists to Caitlin that she
doesn't want to talk about Reva. Caitlin says if someone did something like
that to her she'd want to get back at them - and wonders what Annie would do
if she could get the perfect revenge. Annie looks wary and says that Caitlin
asks a lot of questions and she doesn't like it.

Caitlin excitedly agrees that she asks too many questions and talks to much
- falling back on the bed in exasperation. Annie wonders if Caitlin is on
any medication - Caitlin says no, and Annie suggests that Caitlin switch to
de-caf. Caitlin says they should come up with a secret code for when Annie
wants her to be quiet. The orderly arrives and tells them it's time for
group therapy. Annie says she won't go. Caitlin tells Annie to listen to
the orderly and Annie still refuses to go - group therapy is her idea of
hell. Caitlin says that's because Annie doesn't know the tricks. Caitlin
says she can make it fun for her and leads her out.

CEDARS: Van describes her symptoms to Rick - dizziness and queasiness - but
says it doesn't feel the same as when her disease came on. Matt chimes in
that Van took and pill and Rick should now about that. Van looks at Matt
and then turns back to Rick explaining that she got some medication from her
doctor in Switzerland. Rick says they have tests scheduled; Van wants to
know Rick's opinion and Rick reminds Van that the last time he didn't pull
any punches with her. He goes on that he can't form an opinion until he's
seen the test results. Matt hugs Van and she leaves with Lillian for her
blood work. Matt asks Rick what he really thinks - Rick says he doesn't
know - going on that he's not going to lie - and that based on what he's
heard so far is concerned. Matt says he's afraid that he will lose Van.

COMPANY: Hart says that Cassie has had tough breaks - and Dinah wants to
know what. Hart explains that Cassie's daughter is in foster care - Dinah
thinks must mean that Cassie was found to be an unfit parent then. Hart
explains about Cassie's ex-husband - and how Cassie came to SF to get a job
and make some money to get her daughter back. Dinah laughs and Hart says
it's the truth - Dinah wants to know why he thinks that - because Cassie
said so? Dinah says she knows Cassie's type - and that Cassie only came to
town to land a rich guy. Dinah tells Hart to watch his back - because if
Cassie finds out about the oil on his land she'll be on Hart like Ellie May
Clampett. Hart tries to change the subject. Dinah thinks he defends Cassie
too much - and if he keeps it up she's going to think something is going on.

HALFTIME

LEWIS OIL: Cassie sits at her desk - telling a picture of Tammy that she's
only doing this for her - and how she wants Tammy to be proud of her.
Cassie gets up and bangs on the door for Alan to leave - her agrees -
putting the file away. Cassie starts to complain and we hear Billy yell -
who's there? Alan says that if Billy catches him Cassie will never see her
daughter. Billy calls for someone to unlock the elevator. Cassie calls that
she'll be right there and Alan goes out the back way. Cassie locks up the
office they unlocks the elevator and Billy comes up wondering why Cassie is
there.

COUNTY GENERAL: A large woman holding a doll is going on about being glad
she's in the hospital; Annie looks amused and whispers to Caitlin about the
woman. The doctor sees them talking and asks Annie to speak up. Annie says
her life is perfect and she wants everyone to leave her alone. The large
woman starts to tease Annie saying that they listen to the news and they
know who she is. Annie grabs the woman's doll, and as things get heated,
Caitlin pipes over the crowd that Annie just doesn't like to talk in a group
- but she does. Caitlin starts to tell everyone that she used an undercover
agent. Caitlin explains very dramatically that her last mission was an
undercover sting operation to bring down a man wanted by FOUR continents and
it was worth MILLIONS of dollars. Annie laughs as Caitlin goes on that she
had to sleep with her partner.

COMPANY: Hart says he is getting bothered by the way Dinah keeps blasting
Cassie when she doesn't even know her. Dinah says she knows that Cassie is a
bimbo and a gold-digger. Dinah recounts how Cassie crashed Van's party and
then showed up at H.B.'s funeral. Hart says Dinah makes it sound like
Cassie engineered the whole thing and suspects that Cassie is cozying up to
Billy Lewis. Hart thinks the idea of Billy and Cassie is funny.

LEWIS OIL: Cassie apologizes for startling Billy. Cassie explains that she
had some extra work and then wonders why Billy isn't at Cross Creek. Billy
says he left as soon as he got there. Cassie follows Billy into the office
- Billy says he used work as an excuse to leave before H.B. was buried - he
didn't think H.B.'s dying would be so hard. Cassie says H.B. sounds
remarkable. Billy says he was - but it's too hard to say goodbye - and it's
especially hard because he's the oldest and has to pick things up and he's
not sure what he's doing. Cassie thinks that Billy is strong enough to
handle anything.

CEDARS: Lillian says Van's blood pressure is fine - then says she's glad
they have a moment alone - she know that Van is just putting up a brave
front. Lillian says the "not-knowing" must be awful. Lillian talks about
her breast cancer and says she knows how scary it can be. Lillian makes Van
promise that they can have a women's night out soon. Van agrees - then says
she's worried about Matt. She knows Matt is afraid of losing her.

Matt gets coffee and Rick tells him he can see Van as soon as Lillian is
finished with her. Rick sits down with Matt and tells him that Michael used
to be an expert in the field - and they will do whatever they have to. Rick
says that Van is very brave - and Matt says she's the bravest woman he knows.

Van walks back to the examining room and sits down looking afraid.

COUNTY GENERAL: Annie and Caitlin walk back to their room as Annie
congratulates Caitlin on the great undercover agent story. Caitlin tells
Annie she made it more fun for her - and asks if she can stay as Annie's
roommate. Annie agrees and Caitlin bounces on the bed saying how much fun
it's going to be and asks if Annie wants her palm read. Annie doesn't want
to - Caitlin pushes that it will help pass the time and Annie relents. Annie
sticks her hand out and Caitlin takes it shaking her head and tells Annie
there's a hateful woman in her past. Annie says Caitlin knew that from the
papers. Caitlin says this is different - the woman is in Annie's present and
she's not through with her.

COMPANY: As they're leaving Hart tells Dinah he doesn't want to talk about
Cassie anymore. Dinah wants to know what Hart wants to talk about - kids?
Hart says no - and Dinah says she brought it up. Dinah says she doesn't
really think marriage and kids are crazy. Hart says that just because they
get married is no guarantee that Dinah would be pregnant right away. They
could just let nature take it's course and not push things. Dinah agrees -
saying that they don't have to try to get pregnant - but they don't have to
prevent it either. Dinah tells him she's going to stop taking her birth
control pills - she wants to make him happy - and if this will do it she's
all for it. Hart says he loves her and tells her he'll see her later.

CEDARS: Van returns to the waiting area - dressed again. Matt is surprised
she's back so soon - Van is too - she thought there were more tests but they
told her to get dressed. Lillian takes a call and says the lab called and
asked that they meet Rick in the examining room so he can talk to them.

COUNTY GENERAL: Caitlin continues that whatever Annie has on Reva is very
powerful. Annie confirms that Caitlin is right and tells her she is very
good. Outside the orderly escorts Alan to Annie and Caitlin's room. The
orderly calls that Mr. Spaulding is here to see her. Annie excitedly runs to
the door. Harley jumps onto the bed - hiding around the corner.

LEWIS OIL: Cassie looks sadly at Billy - she tells him she feels awful.
Billy asks about what. Cassie hesitates, and Billy says he just confided in
her - so Cassie can tell him whatever it is. Cassie says she understands
how she feels - and tells him that she lost her parents as a baby. She
tells him that sometimes she wants the advice of someone wiser because she
doesn't always feel like she's doing things right. Billy says he thinks she
doing great. Billy goes on about how everyone thinks she's doing a great job
- and points out that she's even working overtime. Billy says his problems
are none of her doing - Cassie says she really wants to help. Billy says she
already has and kisses her. Just at that moment Hart walks in and sees the
kiss.

COMPANY: Dinah goes back inside and walks over the the restroom. As she
stands outside she remembers telling Hart that they don't have to do
anything to prevent getting pregnant. She looks disappointed then says aloud
- "what Hart doesn't know...." as she reaches into her purse and gets a
birth control pill and takes it.

CEDARS: Van and Matt wait silently. Rick comes in and says he's sorry
telling her he has bad news: her illness has returned. She asks how long she
has and he says six to nine months. Van blinks and takes a deep breath. We
realize it was a daydream as Rick walks throug the door of the examining
room. Van says they didn't expect to hear anything so soon; Matt thought it
would take weeks. Rick says it will for all the tests, but he does know
that Van is in remission. Van wants to know why she's having symptoms.
Ricks says they aren't related to her disease; Rick tells that Van isn't
sick - she's pregnant. Matt looks startled and Van smiles.
