"Guiding Light" Update for Wednesday, September 11, 1996
by Patricia K. Lambert

Here we go!

Chapel:
Marcus walks in on a singing Dahlia and she tells him she doesn't want
to hear about how great a singer she is. Marcus says that's the last
thing he was thinking.

Spaulding:
Alan is losing his investors as Amanda walks in on his phone call.
Alan is tired of her eavesdropping and tells her to leave him alone and
he's had it with her.

Cedars:
Fletcher says he doesn't want to think it but can't deny it. Griffin
is a martyr, a hero and the only person who could benefit from his
being shot was himself. Griffin breaks into laughter.

Club:
A.M. and Zach walk out in and Philip is yelling for a spotter as he is
lifting weights about to drop on him. A.M. says he's got him covered.

Roll lighthouse:

Spaulding:
Amanda asks Alan not to yell at her. Alan tells her not to tell him
what to do. She should just say what it is and leave. Amanda wonders
where all of Alan's investors have gone. Alan reminisces of Reva's
showing up at the dinner. Alan tells her not to worry, she's "filthy
rich" and shouldn't worry because she's sold her stock to Philip. Alan
tells her to stop whining about her legal problems. Amanda tells Alan
that he'd better treat her like the big investor that she is.

Club:
A.M. is encouraging Philip. Philip is crying for help. Philip is
ticked because A.M. didn't help him. They start arguing and Zach tells
them enough with the macho stuff.

Cedars:
Griffin laughs at Fletch's theory and reminds him he almost died.
Fletch just says it's a theory. Griffin tells him to find one that
works. Fletch says he's trying. He couldn't help but coming back to
one conclusion, something went wrong with Griffin's plan. Griffin
agrees. Fletch really thinks Griffin did it and asks him to convince
him that he's wrong.

Chapel:
Marcus says he made a mistake with Dahlia and her singing and makes a
memo to himself to not do it again. Dahlia says thanks and agrees that
Marcus won't push his dreams on her. Marcus tells Dahlia some of the
mistakes she's making in her singing.

Cedars:
Griffin can't believe he has to defend himself to Fletch. Fletch says
he knows how it feels to fight people like Alan, like it's a war and do
what you gotta do. Fletch reminds Griffin of the beating he took over
Gilly and says Griffin's career is in jeopardy and needs a win in "poe
dunk" Springfield. Fletch doesn't know what they stand for anymore and
hasn't forgotten what they did together. Griffin reminds Fletch of an
interview in Mississippi that Fletch won awards for that he got him.
Griffin tells Fletch to forget the idea. Fletch reluctantly agrees.
Griffin says he's a good friend and they shake. Rasheed, his
bodyguard, comes in. Fletch leaves them alone. Rasheed isn't sure
about leaving anymore because Griffin might still need him. Griffin
tells him to leave so he won't get in trouble and so people don't find
out he's the one that set his own shooting up.

Spaulding:
Amanda tells Alan she isn't losing the big investment she's got in
Advantage Systems just because Alan is getting careless. Alan tells her
to lower her voice. Amanda tells him to turn a profit while he's
treating her like dirt. Alan tells her he doesn't have to answer to
her. Amanda says he does. Alan says that he believes that Amanda
didn't shoot Griffin and that he does believe that she set Philip up
and is "A. Spaulding."

Club:
Zach wants to know what it is with A.M. & Philip. A.M. wants to go
head-to-head on bench press. Philip says he is not afraid to compete
with A.M. A.M. asks if it's age or fear. Philip wants Zach to ref.
A.M. says that if Philip wins, he's back at Spaulding. If A.M. wins,
Philip takes his stock and is out of his hair. They start with 250
lbs. A.M. made it look easy. Philip does as well. Zach makes it 275
lbs.

Cedars:
Rasheed tells Griffin they've been together for 12 years and wouldn't
trade a minute, except the last couple of weeks. Griffin's always
given him good advice and tells him to go back to Jamaica and visit his
family. He tells him to come back when things blow over. He won't
forget what he did for him. Rasheed says he never should have put that
gun in Vivian's car. Griffin assures him that Viv won't be prosecuted
and tells him to have a safe trip. Rasheed will wait to hear from
Griffin. He tells the other bodyguard he'll be back and to take care
of Griffin. Fletch walks out of the corridor.

Spaulding:
Amanda tells Alan she didn't set Philip up and he knows it. Alan is
determined to trash her. Amanda tells him it's all about protecting
A.M. if he is the one that set Philip up and she'll get Philip's anger.
Amanda is paranoid. She is dispensable. Amanda says Alan wants to
set up the triumvirate at Spaulding. Amanda wants to know if Alan is
doing it so he will see how far she'll bend. He tells her to wipe her
face and leaves. (one expects laser beams to shoot out of Amanda's
eyes at this moment. She's TICKED!)

Club:
A.M. realizes that the contest isn't fair because Philip has been
working out longer. Zach says that they made a deal. A.M. wants to
drop it and asks Philip back to Spaulding. Philip says that A.M. is
full of surprises. Philip says that he is stunned. A.M. says it's
better than hernia. Philip agrees and is excited about it. A.M. says
that he would shake Philip's hand but he hurt it on the last bench
press.

A.M. tells Philip he has an assignment for Philip. A.M. tells him
about a supplier in California that is giving him problems and only
wants to speak to a member of the family. Since they couldn't shake
they hugged. A.M. bails on racquetball with Zach and tells him that
Spaulding brothers have work to do.

Spaulding:
Amanda is talking to Neil's brother, Carl, on the phone. She wants to
go and speak with him about his brother. Atlanta is a hop, skip, and a
jump away so she'll be on the next plane out.

Chapel:
Dahlia says that even though Marcus is a great sax player he is no
expert on singing or breathing. Marcus reminds her that as a sax
player, all he does is breath. Dahlia says that Marcus doesn't have to
teach her technique, she knows. Marcus plays a few notes on the piano.
Dahlia says that singing comes from the soul not technique. Marcus
leaves to go see Griffin and tells Dahlia to bring it down and stop
breathing in every line.

Airport:
Fletch catches up with Rasheed. He tells him that Griffin told him,
but he can't figure out why the rifle was left in Vivian's car. Fletch
says that he wants to help Vivian. They call Rasheed's plane. Rasheed
tells Fletch the gun was there because Vivian ruined his life. Griffin
had to do something. Griffin was desperate. Rasheed said he couldn't
do it at first, but had to do it, for Griffin. He had to shoot
Griffin.

Cedars:
Marcus tells Griffin that he knows he is in there being treated like a
king. Marcus says he's making headway with Dahlia. He is acting like
himself, not a tongue tied schoolboy. Marcus says he never believed in
fighting for a cause. Marcus doesn't know how Griffin does it, he
always thought that you just had to accept what big business did, and
fighting for something you have zero chance at winning. Marcus says he
really sees what kind of person, kind of man it takes to get up after
constantly being pushed down. He's starting to see what kind of man his
father is.

Spaulding Enterprises:
Board room:
Wants to put on record that he is dead set against putting Philip back
into a position at Spaulding.

Airport:
Fletch asks what happened after the shooting. Rasheed didn't know what
to do. Rasheed didn't panic, he tried to stay focused and kept hearing
Griffin in his thought. Rasheed had to leave and get rid of the rifle.
When he saw Viv's car, he knew he had to put it there. He realizes
now it was a mistake. Rasheed obviously feels remorse for shooting
Griffin. He doesn't know whether to blame Griffin for moving or his
hesitating for too long. Rasheed leaves to catch his plane. Fletch
looks up and asks what to do know.

Cedars:
Griffin tells Marcus that it's just a job, don't romanticize it.
Punching a time clock in a factoring is more honest. Marcus doesn't
blame Griffin for using the media. Marcus tells him that the media is
only there to serve him. Griffin used to believe that. Marcus says
he's the man and always will be in his eyes. Marcus says he's found a
dad he can be proud of. Griffin is glad to hear it. Marcus wants to do
what his dad does and only hopes to be 1/10th the man his dad already
is. They hug, sniff sniff.

Chapel:
Dahlia is practicing and takes it down like Marcus suggested. She
sings "Amazing Grace."

Spaulding Board Room:
Glen reiterates what A.M. says. They talk of the old days and how bad
they were. It was a blood bath. Glen says A.M. is overreacting. A.M.
says that while Philip was in the President's chair, they had company
wide losses. He calls Philip a loser and can't risk it. They are on
the brink of greatness. He urges the board members to vote against
putting Philip back in. Philip walks in and says that someone must
have forgotten to tell him there was a board meeting. Freeze frame
with Philip and A.M. in a sort of stand off.

The End!!
