Since GL is now broadcasting at 10 AM here in NYC, we get Thursday's
episode on Friday, and Friday's episode on Monday. So that you, faithful
update reader, will still get both the Thursday and Friday updates as
soon as possible, Karen Highum & I have switched update days and I'll be
doing the Thursday updates from now on. I will post them during the
weekend, just as I previously did with the Friday updates. Enjoy!

Highlights:
*Annie bemoans her fate to a supportive Rick.
*Ed & Lillian dispense with Hawk.
*Alan plays charades with Abigail & head games with Revabecca.
*The New Gang of Four have a surf&turf double date.
*Buzz takes a trip.
*Nell makes a nuisance of herself.

Just after nightfall on a warm September eve in Springfield, USA...

CEDARS HOSPITAL: Annie is on the phone with Vanessa, in search of Josh.
She leaves a message that she needs to talk to him urgently. Rick
catches the end of the conversation & deduces that she told Josh
everything & it didn't go well. "I told the truth & I lost everything,"
says Annie morosely.

PLAYGROUND: Nick, Susan, AM & Lucy have come to play in the misty
darkness. AM & Lucy play on the slide while Nick pushes Susan on a
swing. She says she hasn't been this happy in years. Lucy comes down the
slide & lands on top of AM, which makes for convenient kissing.

DINER: Eleni joins Frank in a booth & shares a story about Marina
telling a cop that her daddy is studying to be a cop too. Frank kvells
over Marina's grasp of the obvious. Marina misses her dad & Frank misses
his daughter. Eleni misses Frank. [You'd think they'd been separated for
days instead of hours!] Frank apologizes for being so caught up in his
training. Eleni is understanding.

Nadine shrieks at Buzz for the unforgivable sin of burning the moussaka.
Buzz is on another planet & Nadine divines that he's daydreaming about
"that blonde woman" again. Buzz says to ditch the moussaka & make
burgers & Nadine huffs off. Buzz muses about Goshen.

GOSHEN: Alan leans in to kiss Revabecca, but she backs away & tells him
to mind his manners. Alan laughs at the "pristine" Rebecca & says Reva
could never go without a man for long. Revabecca is insulted. Alan
wonders who Rebecca's man is & where she's hiding him. "I oughta knock
your block off!" replies Reva. Rebecca is taken aback at the words (&
accent) that just emerged from her lips.

Alan laughs & welcomes Reva back. Rebecca has no idea why she said what
she did. She insists that she's Rebecca & her life is not about men or
sss.... "Sex?" asks Alan. Rebecca becomes flustered & says her people
don't speak of "that." Alan pushes the discomfiting subject with a
twinkle in his eye. He figures people must be doing it, even if they're
not talking about it, because he sees lots of children. Revabecca says
she is a single woman & has other responsibilities. Alan wonders if her
people spend so much time praying that they will forget to make love &
then die out. She thinks his views are very narrow-minded.

Alan asks about the community's courtship rituals. Revabecca admits that
people court, but they don't get down to business until after marriage.
She is very uncomfortable & wants to change the subject, but Alan wants
to know all the clean-cut details. He thinks the doctor has a crush on
Rebecca. She says he is not part of the community & their relationship
is strictly professional. "Anything else would be inappropriate." Alan
laughs heartily: "`Inappropriate' was Reva Shayne's middle name!"
Revabecca comes quite unhinged & tells Alan to cut it out or she'll send
him home pronto. Abigail enters as Alan is urging her to calm down. She
thinks Alan is attacking Rebecca & pushes him to the bed. Revabecca
tries to suppress a grin.

DINER: Buzz pours on the proud-father syrup until Frank asks what he
wants. Buzz needs to borrow Frank's car because his is on the fritz. He
needs to get out of Springfield for a couple of days, but says his
reasons are personal. Frank thinks Buzz should explain to Nadine, but
Buzz says it's none of her business. He takes the keys & takes off.

Nadine doesn't need to be told anything; she's already upset & trying to
distract herself, driving Eleni to distraction in the process. Eleni
says she has finally accepted Frank's "police thing."

Nell arrives for a cadet-to-cadet chat. Frank says they have nothing to
say to each other, but Nell has a "cartload" she needs to dump in order
to be able to work with him.

CEDARS: Lillian enters Ed's office, & finds Hawk there with Ed. Seems
Hawk is taking legal action against the hospital in general & Lill in
particular. The charge is aggravated assault -- Lill durn near knocked
Hawk's teeth out & she's got a bad attitude to boot. Lill's attitude is
that Hawk deserved far worse. Ed asks for her side of the story. Lill
tells the whole tale, with Hawk interrupting every other word, while Ed
listens, masking his amusement with a bland professional expression.
Hawk complains about the treatment he received in the hospital as well
(2 aspirin & an ice pack). Lill snickers & Ed announces his magnanimous
decision: "You can keep the ice pack... & I'm also giving you the boot."
Hawk threatens to sue all & sundry & Ed tells the "old hillbilly" to get
out now or be arrested for burglary. Hawk protests some more & Ed
threatens to have Lill hit him again. [ROTFL!] Hawk gives it up & gets
out. Ed grins at Lill as he shuts the door.

In the hall, Annie tells Rick about Hawk's pre-emptive first strike. She
tried to explain it all to Josh, but once he saw the wedding photo, he
wasn't really up for being a sensitive listener. Annie is sure that Josh
hates her. Rick thinks Josh will get over it. Annie's not so sure -- he
drove off like a madman. Rick asks what Annie did. Did she drink?

PARK: The girls push the boys on the swings & they all engage in
friendly banter. AM chases Lucy to another area of the park. Susan asks
about all the new play equipment & Nick explains it was donated. Susan
thinks the kids must love it. Nick certainly does. Susan marvels at the
quiet & Nick enjoys it too. AM & Lucy return & invite Nick & Susan back
to the boat. Susan's not in the mood to row. Nick thinks she won't have
to worry about that. She asks how big it is & Nick says it will hold the
4 of them. The 3 others conspire not to tell her that it's a giant yacht
{is that redundant?). Susan agrees, but refuses to paddle any canoes. On
their way out of the park, they notice the shrine to Reva. Only AM
actually knew her & the others ask what she was like. "She was one hell
of a lady," says AM.

GOSHEN: Revabecca signs to Abigail that everything is fine. Abby still
wants to gouge Alan's eyes out, but Revabecca controls her. Abby keeps
giving Alan the evil eye because Revabecca told her about his rude
remarks. Alan asks if Abby can read lips; Revabecca says only a little.
In response to Abby's query, Revabecca assures her that Alan will behave
himself. Alan asks if they are talking sign language; R explains that
it's their own version, not ASL. R is glad to learn that Abby's headache
is all gone & the two women hug. "She must be a whiz at charades," Alan
quips. R tells him to apologize to Abby. "She didn't hear me, did she?"
he asks. R goes out to make tea, leaving Abby alone with Alan.

Abby gives Alan a challenging look. He tries to apologize with signs &
his effort is both pathetic & hilarious. He speaks very loudly & slowly,
as if this will help her hear him better. "I (points to his eye)... me
(points to himself)... some-times (points to his wrist)... words come
out of my mouth (makes a motion indicating things coming out of his
mouth)... are thoughtless (he points to his head & shakes it) & rude (he
slaps his hand)." Abby watches him with contained amusement (seems to be
the day for it). Alan explains that he didn't mean to scare Abby & asks
if they can start over. (He shows one hand jumping over the other, as if
this will make any sense!) Alan wants to be Abby's friend & holds out
his hand. She shakes it. Revabecca returns & watches with approval.

CEDARS: Rick says she can talk to him about it if she had a slip. Annie
doesn't blame him for thinking she might, but she didn't. It's the one
bit of light in all the darkness. She realizes now that Ed was right --
it was the lies that were making her want to drink. Now that her secrets
are gone, she is sober, but very hurt. Rick feels her pain, but assigns
Josh some of the blame for not being able to handle the truth. Annie
doesn't want to blame Josh, but Rick says the good times are the easy
part. He reminds her that no matter how bad things got between them, he
never left her. On this note, Hawk barges in. He's not surprised to see
the "secretly married happy couple." Annie stares at him with loathing.

Annie yells at Hawk & Rick holds her back. Then Annie holds Rick back as
he tells Hawk he's lucky to not be a patient. Hawk remains unchastened &
tells exactly Annie what he thinks of her. Annie fumes that she stood up
for Hawk & made sure he had a roof over his head, over Josh's
objections. This is how he repays her? By ruining her life? Annie & Rick
fight over who gets the first shot at Hawk. Hawk defends his actions &
says he'd do it again in a minute. "You are a mean, vindictive, spiteful
old man," says Annie. Hawk thinks Annie wasn't satisfied with a rich
doctor & decided to go for a richer oil man. Annie grabs him by the
shirt. Rick pulls her away & holds her back as Hawk leaves the room.

In his office, Ed tells a worried Lill that nothing will come of Hawk's
threats. He finds it all hysterically funny. "I would give half my
annual salary just to have seen you hit him," he laughs. Still, he's
glad she knows about Rick & Annie's marriage. He was worried about them
working together, but Lill says they've done fabulous work on the trauma
team. Ed wishes things had worked out personally for them too. Lill
thinks Annie's super & with Beth "out west," Lill has begun to think of
Annie as a surrogate daughter. That's why she introduced Hawk's face to
her fist. As they're saying good-bye, Ed invites her to the house some
day to share a pizza & watch the fights. Lill thinks it would be fun.

DINER: Nell wants Frank to admit that he's a sexist pig who doesn't
think women are tough enough to be cops. Frank says she's a narrow-
minded trouble-maker with an attitude problem. She should try listening
to her father, the cop. She gets upset & tells him to leave her dad out
of it. He tells her to knock off the whole I-know-better-cause-I'm-from-
a-cop-family routine, because he also has a family member who's a cop --
his sister. Frank's just trying to "process" all the information they're
being given so he can be a good cop. Nell greets this with a smarmy
reply & Eleni breaks up the impending blowout by sending Frank to help
his mom with some boxes.

Eleni tells Nell to lay off Frank. "If you keep it up, you'll have to
deal with me. And that would make 200 hundred sit-ups, scaling a wall &
doing night duty at the dock seem like a day at the beach."

CEDARS: Rick suggests that Annie go home & maybe by morning Josh will be
ready to talk. She doesn't feel like she can just do nothing. Rick's
Plan B: the Annie Dutton Special -- a big ol' cheeseburger with all the
fixings, courtesy of her almost-ex-hubby. Annie opts for Plan B & goes
to get her purse (unless Hawk took that too). Ed finds his son in the
hallway & they discuss Annie briefly. Rick wishes he could have done
more for her. Ed says he did fine & proposes going out for a bite to
eat. Rick begs off in favor of Annie. Ed leaves with his worried look.

GOSHEN: Alan continues "talking" to Abby while Revabecca putters &
listens. Alan thinks Abby's father (big, strong look) & mother (hands in
front of his chest, quickly corrected to hair-stroking) must be very
proud of her because she is so self-sufficient. And she packs a mean
wallop, too. He doesn't think he's getting through to her, he tells R. R
& Abby share a secret smile. Alan tells Abby she's got beautiful hair. R
tells Alan that just because Abby is deaf, it doesn't mean she is
stupid. Alan says he's just trying to make friends. Alan thinks Abby is
no longer mad at him. R allows that forgiveness is a virtue & pours tea.

Alan asks about Abby's headaches & learns that she's had them since she
was a child, but no one knows if they are related to her deafness. Alan
assumes her parents consulted the best specialists, but R reminds him
that they are simple folk. Alan is appalled that Abby's parents have
trusted her welfare to heaven & country medicine. R chastises him for
judging people with different ways. They get into a heated argument,
which Abby interrupts by banging on the table. R tells Abby to go home
so her parents won't worry. They hug & Abby turns to leave. She
hesitates at the door & turns around, putting her hand out to Alan. He
shakes it & Abby leaves. Alan is happy that she smiled at him. R says he
can fool a young girl, but it won't be so easy with her. Alan knows; he
remembers their fights. But in between the battles, they loved each
other. "You may not remember the magic, but I do."

YACHT: The gang of 4 makes its noisy, laughing way into the cabin. Susan
is trying to learn her nautical terms & everyone else is teasing her. AM
& Nick do pirate voices as they head off to the galley. Susan & Lucy
agree that it feels good to laugh so much. Susan can't remember the last
time she had such a fun date & she's glad Lucy encouraged it. Lucy
thinks Nick didn't need much encouragement. Susan changes the subject by
finding a Motown CD, which Lucy plays. Everyone starts dancing & singing
to Sugar Pie Honey Bunch... time lapse to limbo dancing under a
broomstick... time lapse to serious twisting. Susan changes the music to
what I always think of as the theme from Ghost. "Oh, my love, my
darling, I hunger for your touch..." Lucy & AM begin slow dancing right
away. Susan & Nick give each other inquisitive looks & then start
dancing as well. "...and time can do so much..."

Later, Susan thanks Nick for a wonderful time. Nick had a great time too
& hopes they can do it again. He hasn't had so much fun in a long time.
"Me either," admits Susan. She'd love to go out with him again. Lucy &
AM return & Susan makes her excuses. Nick escorts her home. AM asks Lucy
if she wants to go home too, but she says she'd prefer another dance.
They start dancing, but there's no music. Neither of them seem to care.

DINER: Nell tells Eleni her husband is a sexist; she knows men because
she has a ton of brothers. "You don't know my man from Adam," (wasn't he
the guy in the mask?) says Eleni. Cops are supposed to respect each
other & respect goes both ways. All Nell does is put Frank down. Nell
wonders what business it is of Eleni's anyway. Eleni wants to be sure
that whoever Frank is partnered with is someone he can trust. And Nell
is not even close. Eleni suggests that Nell talk to her father the cop &
try listening for once. And if she can't listen, she has no business
being a cop. Eleni leaves Nell alone in the booth. Frank worries that
Nell was giving her "lip," but Eleni says there was no problem.

Nell goes to the counter & orders a coffee to go. Nadine advises that
Nell not go away mad. Eleni always goes to bat for Frank no matter what.
Nell thinks that's their problem, but Nadine says it's Nell's problem
too because she works with Frank. A little effort would go a long way.

GOSHEN: Alan is incredulous that Revabecca still doesn't remember him.
Maybe that's the way it should be, she says. Alan tells her about their
relationship. It was always exciting. He never wanted any woman more.
And she wanted him too. She has only his word for that. "You married
me," he reminds her. "We loved each other." Revabecca has heard enough,
but Alan goes on about how they shared their thoughts & dreams. He
touches her hair. They had everything money could buy, which she might
not care about now, but she sure did then. But the most important thing
they had was laughter. Her laughter could light up a room & still can.
He touches her chin & turns her face toward him. "What we had then was
the best thing for both of us & whatever this is now, faith or fate, we
could have it all again." He caresses her face lightly.

YACHT: AM & Lucy continue to dance silently. Slowly, it turns into a
gentle kiss, then a deeper one.

GOSHEN: Revabecca asks what Alan is offering her. "Whatever you would
like," he replies. There's a knock at the door. R hopes no one is sick.
She opens the door. "Hi. Remember me?" asks Buzz.

DINER: Rick & Annie enter & place their order for burgers. They sit in a
booth. Frank decides to go check on Marina (I wish someone would -- that
child hasn't been seen for months!) & Eleni rises from the booth with
him. He wants her to tell him if Nell gives her any trouble. Eleni
thanks Annie for helping Frank & Frank greets Rick. The tranquility is
broken by a racially balanced pair of armed robbers, who point their
guns & warn everyone to freeze. Eleni, Rick, Annie & Nadine all display
varying degrees of terror. Nell & Frank make serious eye contact as the
screen fades to black.
