Better late than never, brief Wednesday Update (because Fletch & Holly
were on).

  THE JOURNAL

Fletch, "You want to know how I feel about us being pregnant? That's a
very general question, be more specific." Holly, "You're the father of
this child. Does that make you feel happy? or sad? ecstatic? eager?
happy? None of the above?" Fletch wants to go check on a problem in
printing. He's starting to make Holly angry. He can't tell her how he
feels. Holly, "You can't or you won't."

  ROGER'S PENTHOUSE

Roger asks why Matt is there. Dinah says he has incredible news. Roger
asks if Vanessa is returning with his grandson. Dinah tells him it's
better than that. Matt interrupts her and says that Vanessa has a personal
message for her daughter. Roger agrees to leave them while Matt delivers
the message. Matt tells Dinah that if Roger finds out about the marriage
clause she won't know if he's marrying her or her bankbook. Roger comes
back and asks for the news.

  GOSHEN

Alan snoops in a box, looking for treasure, and finds a Bible. Revecca
comes back upset that he is out of bed. Alan asks what is really wrong
with her.

  LEWIS HOUSE

Josh is talking to Marah and Shayne when Lillian, Hawk & Annie arrive.
Josh asks Annie if she heard from her lawyer & she snaps at him to leave
it alone. After the commercials, she apologizes. She wants to handle it
herself. Lillian talks about how great Annie is on the trauma team and
Josh asks Annie how things are going with Rick.

  BAR

Ed & Rick are there to play pool. Rick says he's out for blood. Ed
wonders if he's mad at the whole world or just the balls with stripes or
if it's a woman. Rick tells him to shoot, "you can't make any money off
me if you shrink my head." Rick suggests they play for $20 a game, he's
got a sudden urge to take his dad for every cent he's got. Ed says
that's not going to happen, but it would be cheaper if they sat down &
talked about what was bothering Rick.

  ROGER'S

Roger gets a call from Leo and takes it in another room. Matt tells
Dinah that she will regret it if she tells Roger. All she has to do is
marry him <Matt>, get an annulment and she can live happily ever after on
her money. Dinah asks if he's up to something with her parents & wonders
what's in it for him. Matt says that with her gone he has a chance for a
life with Vanessa. He wants her to put Roger to the test, ask Roger to
elope with her & don't tell him about the money. If he says yes, he
loves her, then she'll have both Roger & the money. If he pauses or puts
her off, then he doesn't love her as much as he says he does. Matt
leaves. Roger comes back & wants to know what this was all about.

  THE JOURNAL

Fletch can't tell Holly how he feels because he has to check on the
headlines for tomorrow's edition. Holly, "The baby is more important than
headlines." Fletch, "This is going to cost you $4,000 an hour in
overtime, we'll talk later." He goes out. Holly sits at her desk and
rubs her forehead. Fletch sits at his desk & covers his face.

  GOSHEN

Revecca tells Alan that the woman she went to help died before she got
there. Alan tries to comfort her. She asks him about the drawing she
made. He tells her it is Bud.

  LEWIS HOUSE

After dinner Annie is still apologizing to Josh. Hawk & Lil come in and
Josh goes to find the kids. Hawk offers Annie a drink "with a kick like a
Missouri mule". She refuses & he tries to get her to take it by describing the
liquor in it and saying that Rick used to call it "Hawk's revenge". She
panics & leaves. Josh comes back and blames Hawk for chasing away Annie.

  ROGER'S

Dinah brings Roger a drink and asks him to elope to Vegas. He's shocked.

  THE JOURNAL

Holly tells Fletch to have some water <they are in her office>. He says
he'll be ok, but this is so hard. "The idea that..., the reality that a
baby is coming. It brings it all back to me. Not that it ever went very
far away, but I had these feelings locked up and now the gates are open.
It's like I'm drowning. I lost a child once & there's no pain in the
world like it. My baby, shot in the madness of Beirut. She died in my
arms & with her last breath she asked me to take the hurt away." There
wasn't anything he could do for her. He felt shock, grief, guilt, and
rage against himself. She was 3 years old & he never got to see her grow
up. "She was a perfect soul, who had the life ripped out of her & my
heart right along with it. I was left with nothing but tears in a sea of
tears and an ocean of rage that nobody could make go away." Fletch could
never go through a thing like that again. It would kill him, so he
wouldn't think about it. When that didn't work he did the one thing he
thought would protect him, a vasectomy. "I thought I threw away the
key." Holly, "Now I've given it back to you."

  GOSHEN

Alan tells Revecca that Bud hurt her very deeply.

  ANNIE'S APT

Josh pounds on the door, but Annie doesn't open it. She picks up a
bottle of bourbon and opens it.

  BAR

Ed won the game & asks Rick what's wrong, because Rick played horrible.
Ed's beeper goes off. He calls the number, it's Annie. She needs his
help. He leaves, but doesn't tell Rick who called. Matt shows up and
starts playing pool with Rick. Some tough guys in leather walk in the room.

  THE JOURNAL

Holly is sorry. Fletch doesn't blame her. He wants to thank her, "Have
you ever wanted something so much you were afraid of losing it?" Holly,
"You." Fletch, "You wanted something so much that you were afraid losing
it would cause you too much pain, so you swore to keep from feeling that
hurt that you would never hope to have that thing again. I made sure I
would never have another baby. When Ben came along I loved him, but that
was easy because it was an accident that we even came together. But to
have another baby? No. I ran away so fast I couldn't catch up with me.
I was running away from the truth. I desperately want to hold & to love
a baby of my own so much. I want to have our baby so much that I can't
stand it."

  ROGER'S

Roger will be honored to make Dinah, Mrs. Roger Thorpe. Dinah is excited
& starts making plans for flying to Vegas, or Reno, or Lake Tahoe, but
Roger tells her to slow down. They can't elope because he promised to
give her the wedding she deserves. Dinah wants to skip all that, but
Roger won't. He doesn't want to sneak around as if they are ashamed.
That's what people would think if they eloped. He wants the grandest
wedding to show them. He tells her to spend a fortune, "scare the hell
out of my banker." Dinah wants to get married now, they don't need all
that stuff. He asks if she's doubting her love. She says she doesn't.
He tells her that he needs her in his life. They go to bed.

  BAR

Bar fight ensues after Rick tells them that they don't want to fight
because he's a surgeon & can't hurt his hands and that Matt has an
injured shoulder. Matt uses karate moves & Rick punches them out to
corny 70s Starsky & Hutch music. The bad guys end up in a pile. Rick &
Matt enjoy a beer.

  ANNIE'S APT

Ed pours the booze down the drain and asks what happened. Annie says she
hurt Rick & is afraid of losing Josh. Her whole life is a lie, she's
still married to Rick. The divorce papers where never filed & Josh wants
to get married right away. She doesn't know what to do. She can't tell
Josh because she's afraid of losing him and Rick doesn't want to hear
about it. Ed figures out that's why Rick has been acting funny. She
wishes she never came to Springfield. Ed tells her to think of him as a
garden variety drunk trying to keep another drunk sober. He thinks that
it's lying to Josh that made her want to drink. Annie doesn't want to
lose Josh. Ed can't promise that Josh will stick around if she tells
Josh the truth, but he can promise that she'll lose Josh, her sobriety, &
everything she cares about if she doesn't.

  GOSHEN

Alan offers to tell Revecca how the man hurt her, but she thinks there has
been enough pain for tonight.

  ENDING MONTAGE

Fletch puts his hand over Holly's tummy and she rubs his hand, while they
hold each other.

Roger is sleeping while Dinah looks out of the window, shivers, then
looks sadly or disappointedly at Roger & her ring.

Matt drinks a last swallow of beer, pats Rick on his shoulder, & leaves.
Rick just stares.

Annie has tears in her eyes & looks out the window.

Josh gets home and before going in, he looks at the sky.

Alan watches Revecca look at the night sky.
