Dinnertime in Springfield, USA...

BOARDINGHOUSE: Bridget is freaking because Matt is not dressed for
dinner. He points out that she's not dressed yet either & says he was
just playing with Peter & waiting for her to get home. Jet obsesses over
the clothes Matt will need; he doesn't have a jacket. She sees her
tousled hair in the mirror & obsesses about that too. She obsesses
because they're late.

COUNTRY CLUB: Vanessa writes out a placecard for Matt. The maitre d'
stops by to check on things & admires Van's scrimshaw compact. They
discuss the purpose of the dinner & Van says she'll be meeting one
special young man for the first time, so she decides to seat him next to
herself. Alan listens in via the bugged locket.

At another table, Blake disses Vanessa & wonders why everyone treats her
like royalty. Ross says it's because she's a heavy tipper. Blake
continues her tirade against Van for cutting Ross & can't understand why
Ross puts up with it; he says he's happily married while Van is sad &
lonely, so he feels sorry for her. Blake wishes Van would get cut dead
just once so she'd know what it feels like.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan takes a cocktail break from his spying, since Van's
party has been delayed. Susan warns him to keep his wits about him for
the later meeting with Roger. Alan says Rog isn't as sharp as he used to
be. Susan is dubious, but Alan is confident.

COUNTRY CLUB: Roger & Holly arrive. The plan is for Holly to get the keys
to Ross's office so they can check out the trust document to see who the
trustees are. Holly doesn't like it, but thinks they have no choice, so
she declines Rog's offer to let her bag out. Roger plans to "unmask" Alan
this very evening. [An allusion to Alan's literal unmasking of Roger five
years ago?] "He's not even gonna know what hit him," vows Rog with quiet
assurance & an expectant smile.

Holly goes over to Blake & Ross's table & listens to Blake complain about
Van. Ross asks her to join them & as she sits, she accidentally-on-
purpose knocks over a glass, which spills its contents on Ross.
Immediately apologetic, Holly jumps up & helps Ross off with his jacket,
removing his keys from his pocket as she does so (lucky they were in his
jacket & not his pants, eh?). She offers to take the jacket over to the
bar & treat it with club soda.

At the bar, Roger enthusiastically greets Nick & Mindy & inquires
laughingly about their prison fete. "Wasn't there a TV movie like that--
The Waltons Do San Quentin?" Had they known he was so fascinated by
prison, they would have gotten him an invitation, Mindy says. Nick opines
that Rog will be there soon enough anyway. Rog asks what Nick thought of
Alan. Nick avoids the question with a sullen, "What do you care?" Mindy
says Alan has changed. Rog wonders if he's rehabilitated. The young
Spauldings have had enough of Roger & move off from his lighthearted
inquisition as Holly enters. They walk into a vestibule, where Holly
hands off the keys & kisses Rog good luck. Blake enters just in time to
see Rog leave. "Was that Daddy?" she asks.

ALAN'S LAIR: Susan reports on the non-happenings at the Country Club.
Alan gazes at the clock he took from the mansion & says he would rather
see it in his office, where it belongs. He talks about how certain things
need to be presented in certain ways & recalls his days in prison. The
food was making him ill, so he bribed a guard to bring him a 100 year old
bottle of brandy. But he had to drink it out of a tin cup & after one sip
he poured the entire bottle down the drain. Susan turns on the speaker so
Alan can hear the conversation between Nick & Van regarding Alan. Van
doesn't have much to say about Alan, but she's aware that he may try to
get her to sign over his assets. "Is there anything he could try that
might work?" asks Nick.

BAUER HOUSE: Eve declares that she looks like "death warmed over" to
Michelle [well, it might help if she washed her hair...] & obsesses about
going out in public with Ed as an "engaged couple." She worries about
Vanessa. Michelle asks if she's also worried about Nick & Mindy. "If you
continue to be this clever, I might not marry your dad," warns Eve. She
promises that she doesn't care what anyone thinks about her anymore.
Michelle is also nervous. She worries about saying something dumb, now
that her relationship with Bill is more than just friends. She tells Eve
a little about the relationship (he waits for her by her locker; she
saves him a seat at lunch; some of the boys, like Ben, tease them, but
Bill doesn't care). Ed walks in in time to catch the tail end of this.
Michelle & Eve don't notice him as Michelle admits that Bill is kind of
like her boyfriend. Eve tells her how wonderful it is to have a great
guy, at which point Ed makes his presence known. Eve asks him to check
out herself & Michelle -- Ed thinks they look lovely, "but not quite
right for tonight, though, is it?"

Eve defends her outfit (it's a black, sleeveless dress with a kind of
Egyptian collar & mostly backless, with a strip of fabric down the center
in back. Ed sends Michelle (who doesn't want to budge) to get his wallet
so he can talk to Eve alone. "I love what you're wearing," Michelle says
on her way out. Eve continues to defend herself to Ed, who says there's
nothing wrong with her outfit except that it's not finished. He produces
a ring box, which Eve opens to reveal a diamond engagement ring (looks
like a series of Tiffany-cut stones laid out horizontally). Eve removes
the ring she was wearing & dons the new one. She professes her undying
love for Ed & they lock closed lips. [Whoever said that Eve never opens
her mouth when she kisses is right -- I always notice this now!] Michelle
comes back down & Eve shows off her ring. Michelle loves it. Eve decides
that being engaged means that they are all promising to share a life
together, & gives Michelle her old ring as her "engagement ring."

BOARDINGHOUSE: Lucy comes in as Matt is getting dressed & sees that he
did not open the letter addressed to him. She says it's from Frank &
Eleni, who want to thank him for saving Marina. She also tries to
apologize herself, for misjudging him. Matt doesn't admit to anything, so
Lucy pulls out a huge blow-up of the photo of him saving Marina. She
gives him a big hug, just as Bridget enters with Peter. Jet looks a bit
askance at the scene, but doesn't comment. Peter gives Matt & Lucy a big
"Hi!" Jet tells Matt that Ed & Eve are also running late & will give them
a ride to the country club. She tells Lucy how excited she is that Matt
will meet Peter's other mother. Matt looks less than excited.

COUNTRY CLUB: Van announces that Ed & Eve are on their way with the
Reardons. Mindy notes that Dylan's not too fond of Matt, but that it
might just be a personality clash. Van says her tastes are eclectic. "I
was just reminded that I actually liked Alan at one time." Mindy notes
that she did too.

ALAN'S LAIR: Alan & Susan hear Nick comment that Alan must have had a way
with the ladies. Van says he had an "old-world, courtly kind of charm" &
she never understood why people were so afraid of him. "One thing you
could be certain of--if he really wanted something, sooner or later, he
would tip his hand." Alan smiles at this. Nick thinks Alan may have
learned a few new tricks in prison. Van says he'd better not try them out
on her.

Blake & Holly return with Ross's jacket. Blake mentions that Roger was
beeped & had to run over to WSPR. Ross asks Holly to join them, then
notices that his keys are missing.

ROSS'S OFFICE: Rog enters & looks for the trust document. He has some
trouble locating it, but finally finds it & looks inside. He sees the
names of the 3 trustees. "Oh, Chrissy," he sighs.

COUNTRY CLUB BAR: Blake & Ross search for his keys as Roger arrives.
Holly announces what they're looking for, then suggests they go check the
parking lot. After Ross & Blake leave, Rog breaks the news to Holly that
Blake's a trustee. Holly is concerned & also surprised that Ross hasn't
told Blake. They agree that Ross was probably just trying to protect her
but that being kept in the dark never helped anyone. Rog figures he'll
know more after his meeting with Alan-as-Tashiwa & then they can decide
how to best protect their daughter. Holly warns Rog to be careful because
Alan blames him for being in jail. "And Alan does not forget or forgive."
Rog promises to take care & kisses Holly good-bye. She has to remind him
to give her back the keys.

ALAN'S LAIR: Susan is glad that Alan is back on track. Alan says Tangie,
or someone like her, has always been part of his plan -- someone to share
in his triumph. Susan asks whether Tangie shares his feelings. Alan says
she can't until she knows all about him. He thinks things will move
quickly now that Roger is place and he has the element of surprise on his
side. "Everything is going exactly as planned," he states confidently on
his way out the door.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Bridget welcomes her uncle, cousin & aunt-to-be. Michelle
points out the engagement ring & she congratulates them enthusiastically.
Lucy shows up & learns the news; she offers to take a picture, but notes
that she already has one of Matt. Matt tries to stop her, but she tells
everyone how Matt saved Marina & shows the photo around. They are all
properly impressed, but Matt gets shy & turns away.

COUNTRY CLUB: Bill endures some good-natured teasing about his
girlfriend, Michelle. Josh wonders for the 100th time whether Matt will
actually show. Dylan shows up to say hi & says he won't be staying for
dinner. They try to convince him, but he stands his ground & leaves.
Mindy chases after him. She thinks he's hiding something.

Back at the Marler table, Holly joins Blake & Ross again. They still
haven't found the keys. Blake complains some more about Vanessa's &
Henry's attitudes while Holly covertly slips the keys out of her purse &
starts to drop them on the floor. She stops when she hears Ross say that
he had previously been on his hands & knees under the table looking for
them. Blake decides they should go to the bar because she can't stand
listening to the Lewis noise.

ROOF OF THE TOWERS: Roger arrives & Alan-as-Tashiwa welcomes him in his
trademark whisper. "This is going to be a real red-letter night,"
promises Rog. He sits at a table prepared for the occasion. They briefly
discuss the nature of power, but Rog isn't really interested in a
philosophical discussion. A/T asks if Rog has gotten Alex's signature
yet. Rog says it won't be necessary, because it was only needed for
Tashiwa to arm himself against Alan, but Rog says Alan is harmless & of
no significance. His assets have been stripped, his position filled, and
his company is thriving without him. He's impotent. A/T warns that Rog
must do as he says if he is to share in the profits of their venture.
"Well, I think there might be another way, and it will give me the
greatest pleasure to explain it to you," replies Rog.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Ed thinks Matt's parents will be really impressed by his
heroics. Bridget goes down to give instructions to Mary & everyone but
Matt & Lucy follows. Lucy mentions that the picture will be in the
newspaper tomorrow & Matt seems concerned. She asks if he's running from
the cops. He says she'd better decide if he's a hero or a bad guy. She
knows he's not a bad guy, but knows he's running from something. She
tells him how she grew up running with Buzz & keeping a low profile.

Matt says he didn't do anything he's ashamed of, but the cops may think
differently & might not believe him. He closes the door & tells his
story: A woman loaned him a car in Indiana & when he didn't "jump when
she said jump," she reported the car stolen, plus a few other "choice
details." She turned out to be married, but hadn't told him so. Lucy
understands completely. She promises to keep the photo out of the paper &
keep her mouth shut about his story. Jet calls to Matt to get moving.

COUNTRY CLUB: Mindy thinks there's something special between Dylan &
Bridget & he should fix it rather than letting it die. Dylan says it's
easy for Mindy to tell other people how to live their lives now that
she's married & settled. This strikes a nerve. "Aren't you happy?" asks
Dylan. She claims she is, but doesn't look like she really means it. She
says marriage has its own challenges & requires people to make continual
adjustments. She urges him not to push his family away when they want to
help him. Bill comes by & asks why Mindy's trying to get Dylan to stay if
he doesn't want to. Mindy realizes that Bill is wise beyond his years &
goes back to the dining room with him.

As they all wait for the Reardons & Bauers to arrive, Van promises with a
smile that if Matt doesn't show up tonight, she'll go to the
boardinghouse & drag him over by his hair.

TOWERS ROOF: Rog points out that the arrangement with A/T is very one-
sided. Rog says just one little change is needed. He turns on some
lights. "Come on Alan, what are you waiting for? You were locked up for 5
years. Aren't' you getting a little tired of the dark?" Alan steps into
the light & faces Rog.

COUNTRY CLUB BAR: Blake, Ross & Holly debate the good sense of Blake's
becoming a detective. Blake claims to be very good at finding things.
"Find my keys," challenges Ross. She says she will, although Ross says he
was kidding. Blake is intent, however & heads off on a mission. Ross asks
Holly if she's OK & she says she's just concerned about Blake. She goes
to "powder her nose."

Bridget & Matt enter & see Dylan. Jet winks at Dylan, who immediately
leaves the room. Jet sends Matt back to get the valet parking ticket,
then walks off in the same direction that Dylan exited in. She emerges in
the dining room, where she greets Vanessa. Van asks if they lost Matt
again, but Jet says he'll be right in. On cue, Matt enters & Van turns to
greet him. They recognize each other & delighted smiles light both their
faces as the screen fades to black.
