===============================================================================

Alan at his hiding place:

He is busy trying to purchase some jewelry for Jenna to give Vanessa.
He says he wants to buy something for an old friend who "used to be close"
and that he has been "wanting to contact her".

Vanessa at Lewis Oil with a stranger:

They are talking about kids on the streets and Vanessa is writing a
check to give to the woman. She also volunteers Lewis employees. The woman
leaves and Vanessa starts hugging her scrimshaw (the picture of the boat that
Vanessa and Matt share which is such a big deal these days). Josh enters and
complains about her giving money to charities. (Vanessa responds a little
about helping kids and Josh says "Oh please".) Vanessa says that after her
little vacation she is trying to "remember her promises". What promises, Josh
asks. To live life "free, open, and easy". Josh suspects that something went
on during the vacation that Vanessa is not sharing.

David and Gabriella in a car in Chicago:

They are sleeping. Gabby wakes up, and shakes David, scaring the hell
out of him. Seems she snuck aboard and is only now making her presence known.
She wants to help and refused to stay in that old basement. David says he needs
some clothes to get into the gallery to find out whose scrimshaw it is.
Gabriella says yeah she really wants to find the guy who own it, "The one
guy who jumped off." [I certainly, at this point, am convinced that Gabriella
is in with the hijackers and is looking for Matt. She had a nasty expression
and described Matt's actions pretty accurately.]

Lucy and Matt at Company:

Lucy is yelling at Matt [surprise!]. She calls him a coward, thinking
that he ran away from Marina in her time of need, while some total stranger
saved her. [Of course, Lucy herself did nothing for her own niece. Maybe her
anger is guilt over her own inaction. Yeah, right. Sexist jerk.] Matt doesn't
argue with the accusation. Bridget enters and asks Matt to help her with the
housework. Dylan joins them and bitches about what a loafer Matt is. Bridget
yells at him, Matt leaves, and Bridget gives Dylan a wink.

Tangie (outside):

She is looking at the food, noticing it hasn't been touched. Meanwhile,
Alan-Michael is still lying on the ground feverish and epileptic.

Vanessa and Josh:

Josh continues to accuse Vanessa of having a secret. Vanessa throws
back that he is bored and is trying to live vicariously off of other people's
love lifes [of which she is supposedly not to have, so I don't quite follow
her argument; one would think he could choose better than that]. Josh admits
that's possible. They discuss Dylan and Bridget's breakup which is bothersome
to both of them. Vanessa says "Dylan was like Peter's father." Josh thinks
Billy could fix things, and Vanessa jumps all over him. She says Josh is
idealizing Billy [boy, she sure does have him all figured out; he's lucky
to have her around for these penetrating insights], that Billy had changed
[agree. new actor sucked.], and that he couldn't have fixed things. Josh
says she is still bitter, and Vanessa says, no, that is exactly what happened
on her vacation. She stopped blaming Billy and stopped being bitter.

Dylan and Lucy and Bridget and Matt:

They are all discussing Lucy's photography and how she will be famous
one day. Matt does a pitiful british [i think] accent as Lucy-of-the-future
thanking Bridget for her start (Bridget is allowing her to use a room as a
darkroom). At that point, Vanessa calls, and Matt answers as a Brit. Bridget
takes the phone from him, and Vanessa tells her that she wants to talk. She is
very serious. They hangup and Matt complains about how Vanessa "calls
[Bridget] on the carpet". [Which is a phrase that I had never heard until a
few months ago. Very odd that it comes up again. I looked it up in the O.E.D
and discovered that the phrase originates from the days when the boss was the
only one in the office who had a carpet in his --safe to say, I think--room.
How utterly logical.] Matt leaves and Bridget and Dylan run to each others arms.
Dylan says that David will rescue them and it won't be much longer.

David and Gabriella:

As always, David is feeding her, and she is bitching. David makes her
stop long enough to get him some clothes from her cousin who lives in Chicago.

Alan and Jenna:

Alan gives Jenna a gold card. She is ecstatic. And then he shows her
an array of jewels for Vanessa. She likes one which he calls "overstated" for
Vanessa. She looks at a few others which he aptly critiques, and shows her the
one he likes. Jenna kowtows and agrees. Alan philosophizes a bit about how
it is shame people are not like jewels and one can't simply figure out what is
good and worthy about them. He takes the locket Jenna has agreed to and puts
a picture of Peter in it. He offers Jenna a drink, but she says she has quit
doing that, if he hasn't noticed. Alan complains that he only has old pictures
of his boys, and asks Jenna what she thought of Alan-Michael. She slobbers
a bit about what a fine looking filly he is, but says she didn't know him
like THAT. He is "energetic, quick-footed, always figuring something out, but
full of feeling, and open as a child". She describes his feelings for Eleni
without mentioning her. We fade to Alan-Michael lying in the shack while Jenna
continues. She doesn't think he will open himself up to love again for a while.

Alan-Michael:

Now we here Tangie's voice in an echo chamber. She is telling A-M
not to be afraid. And then, all of a sudden, we hear the real Tangie and she
is outside the door knocking, wondering if he is inside.

Lucy and Bridget:

Lucy is still upset about Marina and her lack of ability to do anything.
The talk starts to get to Bridget as she realizes she couldn't do anything to
help Peter either. Lucy changes the subject to Matt. She says that Bridget
spoils him. Bridget says yes she has, ever since "Larry". You see [get the
hankies out, kids] Matt and Larry were best friends and they discovered
matches and some wooden enclosed area [shack, I don't remember] and you
know what. Matt got out, but then, even though he was only 8 he went back in...
Matt enters. [Save the hankies for later, folks, we haven't heard the end of
this one.] He insults Vanessa again for her haughty ways. Bridget wants to
send Matt back to the store. There is a knocking at the door, and Matt, thinking
it is Vanessa, wants to answer it.

Josh at Lewis Oil:

He walks into Vanessa's office, and finding her not there, starts
yelling at her for saying those things to him about his loser life. Jenna
enters in the middle and watches, amused, for a while. He sees her and says
"hi." She responds "hi." "Can I do anything for you?" "Yes, you can promise
me if you ever feel like yelling at me, you'll do it when I'm not in the
room either." [Very well done by Fiona, IMO.]

Tangie and Alan-Michael:

He doesn't want her to come in. He says it's not safe. Tangie wants
to find a doctor, but naturally he says "No doctors". She asks him his name
but he refuses to answer. She says she wants wants wants to help [she didn't say
it three times, but she looked really earnest :) ] She wants to pay him
back for saving her life. She pushes the food and medicine through, and asks
if he wants anything else, he says he is cold, and she gives him her sweater
[white angora, it looked like]. He doesn't want her to go back to her house.
He says someone is trying to kill him. She asks if it is the same person who
clocked her on the beach. He says yes, but that that guy was paid by someone
else. Then he says "Tangie, please go."

David at the Art Gallery:

The man doesn't want to tell David who the artist was. David says
he respects that in this day and age of computers [some lack of privacy thing].
He says he just wants to know to commission the artist for some more of his
charming work for the Reardon Museum of Lake Saganaw (sp?) David starts to
leave but the man thinks again, and gives David the address of the dealer in
Wisconsin where the gallery bought the scrimshaw. He asks David his name and
David says "Dylan Lewis".

Matt and Bridget:

Bridget sends Matt off and answers the door.
[Whew! That was a close one.] She lets Vanessa in and Vanessa gets straight to
business. "I don't mean to pry", she says [hahahahhahahahah]. Seems she is
feeling a little guilt over the way she and Billy used to fight when Bill was
a little boy, and thinks that kids always know when their parental types are
fighting even if they don't fight in front of them. Bridget looks affected by
this. Dylan enters.

Bridget says that she was just about to tell Vanessa what they had
decided. That Dylan would move out. (This is news to him.) He agrees that he
is packing up as they speak. Vanessa wants him to move back to the Lewis
residence, but he says no, he will be "bunking" with Patrick Cutter (!). Vanessa
is shocked to find the good Detective and Dylan are friends [that blue collar
worker she thinks with disdain]. Dylan says they aren't best buddies, but that
Patty needs a roommate. [Seems Springfield has volunteer cops.] Anyway, Vanesssa
says she is really sorry about what is happening to Dylan and Bridget, but
she seems mollified.
[BTW, as contrived as I think this whole breakup business is, I have to
admit, it is giving Melissa more to work with than she has had in weeks. I'm
finally beginning to look at the TV again when she is on the screen.]

She leaves and Bridget and Dylan embrace again. They
sound out another prayer to David who...

Gabriella and David:

Gab is holding something in her hands. (Not to sure what it was:
tickets, receipts, etc.? I don't know. Help?) David appears and shows her
the dealer's card and is pleased with himself. She is absolutely beside herself
with joy for him. [Just kidding. She couldn't care less.] She wants him to
thank her for the clothes, and he complains that it is a little tight in the
shoulders [heh]. She is annoyed, but tells him he can keep it, for it doesn't
fit her cousin anymore. For some reason, this surprises David and he seems
suspicious. They drive away, and Gabriella drops whatever it was she was
holding onto the ground.

Josh and Jenna:

Josh wants to know about the close friendship Jenna and Vanessa have
formed recently. They discuss the night Jenna jumped all over Josh, trying
to get him to invest in her company. In the middle of this discussion, he
describes her as pretty and she lights up. Vanessa returns and greets Jenna
very warmly. Josh leaves but gives Jenna a big flirt before he goes. [Hah!
That'll show that Vanessa who's a loser!] Jenna gives Vanessa the gift.
Vanessa mentions Buzz again and Jenna says that she is still not going to
tell him about the baby. "Praps if he hadn't remarried Nadine, etc." Vanessa
wonders what she'll tell Buzz when she has a baby with her. [Good question,
Vanessa. But maybe she better think of what to say a few months before that
too.] Jenna says she'll say "I slept with someone else." "Who," Vanessa
asks. No ideas.

Matt:

He returns with groceries. He see a newspaper story on the rescue
of Marina by some vagrant. He looks disgruntled.
Meanwhile, Lucy is in her darkroom, reciting steps, and trying to develop
some pictures. Nothing coming out so far.

Vanessa and Jenna:

Vanessa opens the locket, and sees the picture of Peter. She is
touched and asks "how did you do that?" Jenna quotes Alan precisely
"You don't want me to divulge all my secrets, now, do you?" They do a little
more bonding. "I've never had a true woman friend, and I like it."
We cut to Alan, as we discover the locket is bugged.

Tangie:

She thinks she recognizes the voice. She asks him his name again and
when he doesn't answer, she says she is coming in. She slips in through a hole,
and discovers Alan-Michael. [Finally!!!] She doesn't seem all that shocked.
