GL Update, Tuesday, August 20
by Joe Beason

Country Club Pool

Matt enters, looking for Bill, who glares at him from across the way.
Before Matt can make his way over, Amanda intercepts him, claws bared.

Vanessa's Office

Vanessa is speaking into a tape recorder, making business notes for
Lewis Oil, presumably in preparation for her imminent departure. The
camera pans across her desk, littered with piles of folders, but more
importantly lingering on the pictures of her husband and children.
(Hey, who's going to run the company, anyway?) Yet another voice-over
of the doctor's diagnosis. Dinah walks in, snarling about men. Vanessa
scoops her up in a hug; a confused, slightly worried expression crosses
Dinah's face.

Bauer Cabin

Bridget, Hart and Peter enter, singing "Old McDonald's Farm". Peter
says something about being one, big, happy family. Close-up of a smiling
Bridget.

Vanessa's Office

Dinah, suspicious, starts grilling Vanessa. The elder Chamberlain
becomes evasive; Dinah stays on her, noticing the files that are being
prepared unusually early. Vanessa tries to distract Dinah with a lunch
offer, but Dinah's not having any of it.

Pool

Amanda and Matt continue to verbally spar. Across the way, Bill's
fellow lifeguards crack jokes about Matt's former callboy status.

Cabin

Warm, familyesque time with Hart, Peter and Bridget. The guys go out to
do some boating; Bridget makes some excuses in order to stay behind.
After they leave, she begins the next phase of her plot, pulling out a
pail and a length of tubing. "Well, I may not be much good at water-
skiing, but I sure know how to siphon gas."

Cedars, Griffin's Room

Griffin wakes up, post-surgery; Marcus comes in to talk to him. Tender
father and son talk ensues. (Marcus is much more appealing when he's
not chasing Dahlia or sneering at authority figures.) Marcus tells
Griffin that he loves him. "We got the bullet, now we just have to find
who pulled the trigger." Which leads to...

Police Station

Vivian is being booked, with Charles and Ross hovering. Vivian is near-
hysterical, protesting her innocence, telling Frank that she's a
personal friend of the governor, etc. Frank takes Vivian away for
processing, asks her to remove her jewelry; she has a hard time removing
her wedding and engagement rings. Charles watches silently from afar,
as Vivian breaks down.

Pool

Amanda and Matt continue to spar; Amanda starts making zingers about
Matt's relationship with Vanessa. Matt walks away to talk to Bill, who
avoids him. Amanda follows along behind, refusing to shut up.

Office

The back and forth between mother and daughter continues. (I'm liking
Dinah a lot better now that she's doing something besides the Roger
plot.) It begins to look like Vanessa's going to confide in her
daughter.

Pool

Amanda and Matt are still sparring. Amanda saunters off after getting
in the last word. Matt tries to talk to Bill again, who gives in a bit,
since he's getting off of work anyway.

Office

Vanessa pulls back from confiding in Dinah, instead talking at length
about everything she has in her life, and how she fears to lose it. She
finally manages to turn the conversation back to Dinah's problems.
"Now, what's your problem?" "Hart and Bridget."

Cabin

Bridget returns to the cabin, her sabotage complete. The sailors
return. Bridget has Peter wash his hands. Amusing line from the kid,
"Do it for real?" More family bonding moments. Hart finally says it's
time to go, and heads out to start the car. "Mommy, are we going home
now?" Devilish smile from Bridget. "No, sweetie, I have the feeling
we're not."

Vanessa and Matt's House

Bill and Matt enter, arguing. Bill finally starts letting loose with
comments about Matt's former profession, and the implications that has
for his current marriage.

Hospital

Griffin and Marcus continue to bond. Marcus talks about how the 5th
Streeters are rallying in the wake of Griffin's shooting. Griffin's
bodyguard enters, feeling responsible. Charles enters; Griffin learns
that Charles performed the surgery on Griffin.

Police Station

Frank fingerprints and photographs Vivian, who's gone past crying to a
lifeless sort of compliance. She finds out from Ross that he couldn't
get an arraignment that day, and that she'll have to spend the night in
jail.

Cabin

Hart comes back. The gas tank is empty! Hart tries to call a gas
station, but the phone is dead. Hart has the pager he uses with Dinah,
but it's not very useful in this situation.

Office

Dinah and Vanessa process the whole Dinah-Hart-Peter-Bridget thing.
Vanessa tries to put things into perspective for her. Vanessa leaves
for home; Dinah remains to make some phone calls.

V & M's House

Bill wants to leave; Matt insists on his staying and having it out.
While looking for his car keys, Bill finds a $200,000 check from
vanessa, made out to Matt. He shows it to Matt as evidence that Matt is
indeed a gigolo.

Commercial

House

Bill and Matt are still arguing when Vanessa walks in.

Hospital

Charles tells Griffin et al. that Vivian has been arrested for Griffin's
shooting.

Station

Frank leaves Vivian in her cell.

Office

Dinah sends Hart a message via pager, "I love you." Bridget is alone
with the pager when it goes off. "You tacky little slut. Can't you
leave him alone for five minutes?" She erases the message. Hart and
Peter return; the gang settles in for an overnight stay. Freeze on
Bridget's smiling face.
