[First few minutes pre-empted due to an update on the Great Hamptons Fire
on Long Island -- we join the Marlers already in progress]

ROGER & DINAH'S LOVELOFT: Blake & Ross try to convince Dinah that Roger is
no good. Dinah stands by her man, even after hearing that he falsely
confessed to fathering Holly's baby. Ross says Dinah will just have to
learn about Rog the hard way. [Ooh, I think she's already done that ;-)]

HOLLY'S COTTAGE: Holly violently pushes Rog away, escaping from his
unwanted kiss. She says he's out of his mind. Rog is intent on convincing
her that they're meant to be together. He wants her so bad he can taste
her. "You would have to rape me to ever have me again," she replies. The
sting is evident in Rog's eyes.

He says he would sooner die than ever force himself on Holly again. "What
do you call this?" she asks. Rog knows it will take more than words to get
through to her. "You don't just erase a lifetime with somebody because you
will it!" He accuses Holly of turning Blake against him, with Fletcher's
help. Holly says that's Rog's MO, not Fletch's. While Rog derides Fletch as
an overgrown adolescent whose charms will quickly wear thin, Holly defends
him as young at heart & says she's learned more about love from him in 6
months in 20 years from Rog. Fletch appears in the doorway in time to hear
the tail end of this exchange. "I am in your soul," insists Rog. "You are
gone!" retorts Holly. Fletch strides in, tells Rog to get lost & informs
Holly that she's a great woman. Holly flashes a triumphant smile at Rog,
then wishes him good-bye. He leaves, defeated.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah shows her guests the door, saying she expects Rog any
minute. Blake peers at the warm oysters & cold steak & thinks not. Dinah
repeats her invite to leave. Blake & Ross turn to go, but Dinah calls Ross
back--he forgot to take his "bribe." He says it's a gift, no strings
attached, like his love. Dinah looks near tears, but asks them to leave
again. But do they go? No! We get Reprise #4098 of Why Dinah Should Dump
Rog, this time with Ross singing the lead. He reminds Dinah that *everyone*
not on Roger's payroll hates him. Is it a cosmic conspiracy against Dinah?
Maybe, she says. Ross tells her to think about it, before she's just
another notch on Rog's holster. Finally, Ross & Blake leave Dinah to stew.

LEWIS RANCH: Annie wields a bridal mag & shows Marah a potential flower-
girl dress. Too many ruffles, thinks Marah. Annie suggests they go
shopping. Does this mean you & Dad are really getting married? asks Marah.
Annie confirms & Marah anxiously concludes that Josh went to court to
"kill" her mom, just like Grandpa Hawk said. Annie sits Marah on her lap to
explain the facts of death. They both know Reva is dead--she died 5 years
ago. Marah says yes, she drowned in Florida. "I was there," she adds. Annie
says Josh just needed to get a "little piece of paper" saying that from the
court, because the law says he needs it to get married again. Marah accepts
this, but says Shayne is still opposed to the idea of a new mama. But Marah
is happy. Annie can't wait. Marah asks Annie to explain it to Hawk so he
won't be so angry. She wonders if he'll still be her grandpa. Of course,
assures Annie. This major bonding moment ends in hugs & tickles.

Hawk enters & Annie is on guard, but Hawk just wants to play with Marah. He
produces a penny from her nose & asks her to get him a piece of pie from
the kitchen & Marah runs off. Hawk implies that Annie should feel guilty
about stealing his grandkids' hearts away from Reva. "Pretty soon, they
might not even remember what their real mama looked like."

FIFTH ST. CONSTRUCTION SITE: Josh sees (but doesn't recognize) Brent in a
danger zone & warns him to move. Brent keeps his face mostly hidden & moves
off. Matt brings over some modified plans for Josh to approve. David, up on
the scaffold, calls for another load to be hauled up & Matt obliges. David
comments that he ought to pay for the great view from up there. Josh sees
something he doesn't like in the plans & calls Matt over. They walk off
together & Brent emerges. Stealthily, he loosens a bolt on the scaffolding.

LEWIS HOUSE: Annie has no intention of harming the kids' memories of Reva.
She just wants to be a good mom for them. She tells Hawk that his welcome
in the house doesn't give him license to upset & confuse the kids. She's
not afraid of Reva's memory, but doesn't want Hawk to undermine her
relationship with Marah & Shayne. "Kids don't like change," insists Hawk.
"You don't like change," corrects Annie. Hawk can't stop the wedding & if
he doesn't like it, he can leave. "You talk like a Lewis already," says a
chastened Hawk. Annie excuses herself to tuck in the kids before leaving.

HOLLY'S: Fletch thinks Holly's amazing. She's pretty proud of herself for
handling Rog the way she always wanted to. Fletch is proud too. They exult
in their love & Holly says she couldn't have done it without Fletch. He
calls her "Superwoman" & lifts her in his arms, then remembers that she's
preggers & gets all solicitous. Holly assures him she's not made of glass &
not sick--just pregnant. Fletch tries to picture their baby--he thinks it's
a girl & wants to call her Holly. "No, let's name her after you," she
suggests facetiously. Fletch expresses father-to-be doubts... big
responsibility. At least they know Holly's not going through menopause.
Holly is less sanguine about the whole situation & doesn't want to
"romanticize" her pregnancy. It's the last thing she ever expected. Fletch
asks if she's glad about the baby. "Are you?" she asks. "You do want this
baby, don't you?" asks Fletch. Holly doesn't look 100% sure.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah is on the phone, trying to locate Marcus. He's not in his
hotel room. She wonders where Rog is & why he's not with her. She blows out
the candles & sees the card Ross gave her. She reads it aloud & decides
Ross doesn't really mean it. "If you did, you'd understand." She considers
ripping the card up, but settles for crumpling it. Roger slams in & Dinah
tosses a pot at him. "What the hell was that for?" he demands angrily.

TOWERS CLUB: The cool jazz is playing & the dance floor is mobbed when Ross
& Blake arrive for a cheer-me-up night on the town. Hamp says he'll try to
find them a table & they decide to dance in the meantime.

Marcus finds Hamp & tells him he's got a pretty cool place. Hamp seems to
take a shine to the young man & asks, "What can I do for you?" Marcus says
it's what he's going to do for Hamp. He says he's just gotten back from a
long gig in Europe & says he can hook Hamp up with "the hottest sax player
on 6 continents." Hamp says he knows guy & has already hired him. Marcus
looks a little put out, but Hamp's just joking about himself. He invites
Marcus to hang around & maybe he'll get a chance to play later.

As they boogie down, Ross & Blake dissect the earlier part of the evening.
Ross is proud of Blake for telling Dinah the truth & not letting D push her
buttons. Blake is mad at her dad for what he did to Holly & what he's doing
to Dinah. They decide to enjoy the music as Hamp starts to blow his horn.

PENTHOUSE: Rog is in no mood for Dinah's "drama queen histrionics." Dinah's
pissed about being blown off & demands to know where he was. She doesn't
buy the meeting excuse--he's a mess. "Were you with Holly?" Rog says it's
none of her business. Dinah announces that she's had enough & is leaving.
Rog wonders why. Dinah thought they were doing something together, but Rog
obviously doesn't want to share, so she's outta there. Blake was right, she
decides. Rog's interest is piqued. He wants to hear about the Marlers'
visit. Dinah says Blake told her Rog was not to be trusted, & she should
have listened. Rog says R&B are just trying to break them up. But tonight,
Dinah learned something new: "You still love Holly & you always will."

HOLLY'S: Holly worries that she's not the maternal type. Fletch says he'll
cover for her. Holly says she's the pregnant one. She went into the doc's
office worried that she was losing her edge & found out that she's going to
lose her figure instead. Either way, she's worried she won't be attractive
to Fletch anymore. It's a mid-life crisis of another color. For 2 years,
they'll be dealing with diapers & doo-doo & trying to figure out what the
crying baby with Fletch's eyes & Holly's hair wants. Their social life will
be ruined. Ben enters & leans against the doorway. Channel 2 breaks in with
another Special Report, so I miss rest of this scene & beginning of next.

CONSTRUTION SITE: Josh gives Annie a hardhat & helps her climb the
scaffolding. Why, I don't know. Close up on the loose bolt.

TOWERS: The music slows. Ross & Blake sway to Hamp's mellow sax. Marcus
chooses this moment to join in, harmonizing with Hamp. Ross recognizes him
as Dinah's friend. Hamp doesn't kick Marcus offstage, so he must think the
young man has sax appeal. The song ends to loud applause & Hamp compliments
Marcus & introduces him to the crowd. He tells Marcus to hang around.

Ross finds Marcus & introduces himself. He tries to start a conversation
about Dinah, but Marcus politely says he doesn't talk about his friends to
people he doesn't know, especially their parents. Ross respects this. He
wonders what Marcus thinks of Rog. Marcus wonders why Ross wants to know.
"I hate him. I hate the fact that my daughter is with him," says Ross with
all honesty. Marcus thinks this is pretty normal vis a vis fathers & their
daughters' boyfriends. All Marcus knows is that Rog is paying for his hotel
room & must have deep pockets. Ross figures Marcus wouldn't want to say
anything that would jeapordize his position. "Nobody buys me. Ever," says
Marcus emphatically. Ross thinks this is wise & figures the chat is over.
Marcus adds that he didn't say he thought Rog was a particularly great guy.

PENTHOUSE: Rog wants to know what Chrissy said. Her version: Rog tried to
kill Fletch & when that didn't work, he claimed to be the father of Holly's
baby. Dinah is glad Blake told her. Ross enjoyed the story too. Dinah felt
like a fool making excuses for why Rog wasn't there. Rog tries to apologize
& calls Dinah "sweetheart," but she takes offense. "I don't mean anything
to you," she says. Rog insists that she means everything to him & under-
stands him better than anyone. "Better than Holly? Better than Chrissy?"
Dinah thinks not. Was Blake telling the truth about what happened?

Rog never wanted the 2 of them to be dragged into the middle of Fletch's &
Holly's mess. His side of the story: Fletch tried to kill him & he defended
himself. Holly is pregnant & Fletch has it in his head that Rog is the
father. "Well, are you?" asks Dinah. Rog says Dinah isn't listening & Dinah
retorts that Rog isn't answering. She's going to her dad's, if he'll have
her. Rog begs her not to leave. He wants to make her understand. Dinah
wants the truth. "One more lie & I'm out the door. I mean it."

Rog runs his fingers through his hair & comes clean. He was at Holly's.
Dinah knew it. Rog says that after 20 years, he can't say he doesn't care
about Holly. He's concerned about her because of her "bad situation."
Dinah's heart bleeds. Rog promises he won't make the same mistake again.
"Chrissy's wrong. I don't want Holly. I want you. I want you to stay."

HOUSE OF WAX: Brent plops his hardhat on Marian's lifeless head & pops open
a brewski. Tape recorder on: "A hard night's work. That's what I gave those
jerks down at Lewis Construction, building those tinker-toy houses with
funds courtesy of Alan Spaulding." He recalls the promises to rebuild 5th
St. "One little turn of the screw & it's all coming down, baby, right
around them. David Grant right in the middle of it. Why? Because he should
NOT have SAID those THINGS to ME!"

CONSTRUCTION SITE: David, standing near the nutless bolt, calls up to Josh,
asking if Josh is trying to steal his job. Josh says they'll be down soon.
Annie & Josh look out at the city. Annie's glad to be away from everything,
including Hawk, but she doesn't want to get into that now. She has good
news. "Hawk is leaving?" asks Josh hopefully. No, Annie's on the trauma
team. Josh is very happy for her. Now the only thing she has to deal with
is answering to her ex-boyfriend, he says. Annie looks confused, then
realizes he's talking about Rick. She won't let it be a problem, unless she
gets fired tonight for being late. They kiss & start climbing down.

When they get down, David starts climbing up. He looks out & muses,
"Bridget, if you could see me now..." He calls to Matt to send up another
bucket. Matt starts hauling up a load. The loose bolt shifts.

HOLLY'S: Ben thinks the idea of a baby is "unreal." Fletch says Ben has
friends w/ siblings. Ben says one friend's brother is a dork & another's
sister is a pain. "Well, we wouldn't make a dork, & we already have a
pain," says Fletch. :-) Ben doesn't want to baby-sit. He urges them not to
give the kid a stupid name. Holly suggests Mergatroyd. Ben's appalled &
heads to the kitchen for a snack. Holly figures he has 8 months to get used
to the idea. Fletch says maybe they'll all get used to it. They're going to
work it out. Suddenly, a craving for a kiss hits him. Holly feels it too.

TOWERS: At the bar, Ross tells Marcus that Rog is dangerous & Dinah is a
pawn in his latest game. Dinah thinks Rog loves her, says Marcus. Ross says
he'll just use her until he doesn't need her. Marcus wonders why Ross is
sharing this. Ross hopes M will look out for Dinah. Funny, Dinah thinks her
parents don't give a hoot. Ross says they love her very much. So will M
keep an eye out? He's already doing that, he assures Ross. He doesn't much
care for Rog either. Ross gives Marcus his card & says to call if needed.
Blake comes by & Ross introduces her to M, who heads off to try to secure a
job with Hamp.

Ross apologizes for not being much fun. Blake understands his concern for
Dinah. Ross thinks Blake will make a good mom. "Someday," she says wist-
fully. "Someday soon," promises Ross. Blake thinks Ross doesn't need
another child to worry about. Ross wishes he could stop worrying about
Dinah, but Blake doesn't blame him one bit.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah sees no reason to stay--there's nothing there for her &
it's no fun anymore. Rog says it's real. "My father is real. Blake is
real," says D. Rog says they'll only say I-told-you-so. Dinah thinks it's
better than lies. "I can't believe you'd let them win--crawl back to them,"
says Rog. Dinah sees that all she means to Rog is "winning." She told Rog
she loved him, but he never answered. "Do you love me, Roger? Do you?"

CONSTRUCTION SITE: As David works, the scaff teeters on the loose bolt. It
starts falling apart & David grabs onto the rope holding the bucket. Matt
has the other end of the rope & provides counterweight so David doesn't
come crashing to earth. Josh joins Matt & helps him hold the rope. David
tries to climb up the rope to somewhere with secure footing. "This whole
thing could go," Josh worries.

PENTHOUSE: Rog says Dinah should trust her heart, not people who are trying
to break them up. "Haven't I shown you my love?" he asks. "You've given me
a lot," replies Dinah. Rog says they were both lost before they found each
other & have given each other something precious. It didn't start out that
way; he didn't plan to feel this way about her. "I guess some things are
just meant to be & you & I are one of them." Dinah wonders if he really
means anything he says. It really hurt her to hear about Holly the way she
did & if she doesn't mean more to him than Holly... Rog insists that Dinah
means more to him, because she understands him & accepts him the way he is.
Dinah thinks it sounds good, but she wants proof.

"OK, I didn't want to ask like this, but I guess now's the best time," says
Rog. Ask what? "Ask you to marry me." Dinah raises her eyebrows. "You'd
better say something quick, or I'm going to think you don't love me," says
Rog, with his best happy-earnest look. [Man, he's almost got ME believing
he loves her!!] Dinah breaks out into a huge grin & is completely won over.
She's truly convinced he loves her & jumps up & down like a game-show
contestant. "Yes! I'll marry you!" she says, giving Rog a huge kiss. Over
her shoulder, Rog's smile turns thoughtful & he chews his lower lip.

BRENT'S BIZARRORAMA: Brent tunes his TV to the local news, waiting for the
lead story to become "Collapse at Lewis Construction Crushes Worker. Poor
David." Brent runs his fingers through the hair of his wig (which sits atop
the TV) & imagines that Lucy will be so upset, but her new neighbor,
Marian, will be there to comfort her.

HANGING WITH THE LEWISES: David hangs on for dear life, swaying on the
rope. Josh urges him to hold on until they can get him down. David tries
gamely, but the support holding the rope's pulley gives way & David falls,
in slow motion. He hits the ground & the scaff comes crashing down around
him. The camera does one of those annoying series of freeze/zooms, closing
in on David's motionless body, covered with rubble-dust, as the screen
fades to black.
