GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 1995
##############################################################################

Nickname key:

I'm using Manian for Brent/Marian which I suppose might become Maniam or
Maniac and perhaps later, like with Damian Grimaldi on ATWT, we can do
stuff like Maniamonemeanmofo! or Maniamanuglychick!
Jet is Bridgette
"BV" is Brent using his "Brent Voice"
"LM" is Brent using his "Lady Marian Voice"
Susin is for Susan Bates because she's so IN YOUR FACE about her HIV status

IF THE SPAULDING GIG FALLS THROUGH HOW ABOUT BECOMING A TIME-LIFE OPERATOR?
Alan Michael is wearing a funky headset phone (cheaper than the
chiropractor for those long conference calls, I imagine,) and sealing a
video phone deal. After ending the call, the grabs the grinning Lucy and
insists that they have to go celebrate TONIGHT! He suggests that they do
something relaxed, "just lay back," he says. She suggests a movie and
popcorn. He agrees. "Great" AM's voice fades into...

SO DO YOU STILL PEE STANDING UP?
Manian is in the Ladies restroom at Spaulding applying makeup and talking
into the tape recorder again. (S)he says how much (s)he hates accounting
but LM says what a quick learner Marian is. BV says that he's not the most
attractive woman in the world but that he's seen worse. He goes on about how
gullible AM & Lucy are and then switches to his LM voice and mocks a
conversation with Lucy about what a cute couple they are and how nice it
is to see two people so much "so..so..(switching to BV,) SO STUPID! SELF
RIGHTEOUS! (and more quietly,) ...so ripe for revenge...."

IS NOLA BORROWING FROM NADINE'S OLD WARDROBE??
Okay, I swear those earrings were the ones Nadine wore when she first
came to town! Nola is decked out in the tackiest deeniesque style and
badgering Bridgette about changing the decor of the Boarding House. Jet
says that she likes the place the way it is and Nola argues
that it's dull and brown and not like the Jet she use to know. Nola tells
her she has to be bold and assert herself and Jet tells her she has no
problem speaking her mind when she can get a word in edgewise. Nola keeps
harranging her saying she's turned into a "goodie-goodie 'yes' girl."
Jet keeps trying to avoid an argument but Nola is really harassing her.
Nola stops Jet by the shoulders and says what she's really talking about
is how Jet just gave away her child to Vanessa. Matt enters and tells
Nola to stop trying to stir up trouble. Jet insists that the only reason
she sent him to France w/ Vanessa was to keep him safe. "Safe? Safe from
what?" asks Nola. "Rogerthorpe" states Matt as the action music cuts in
and we fade to...

FLETCH DIDN'T THINK HE HAD THE BALLS TO DO IT!
Roger is holding a bloody Fletcher above the floor by his throat. Holly
is screaming at Rog to let him go before he kills him and Fletch looks
like he's about to lose conciousness.

ROLL LIGHTHOUSE!
(Looks like they've updated the pictures on the intro but I notice Tangie
is still on there. I expect Harley to dance across w/ that big necklace on.)

THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A VAS DEFERENCE BETWEEN FLETCHER & ROGER!
Roger finally releases Fletcher, who falls to the floor gasping for air.
Rog & Holly argue. Rog says Fletch started it by cumming over at the
sperm of the moment, breaking down his door and attacking him. Holly says
Rog almost killed Fletcher. Fletch says he knows and understands what happened
and that it's not Holly's fault. Rog speculates that Fletch has finally gone
insane. Fletch recalls how Rog faked the accident and manipulated his way into
Holly's bed. Holly keeps telling him that's not what happened and begging him
to stop talking, saying they should go home and discuss it. Rog says this is
all ancient history and wonders what Fletcher's point is. Fletch tells Holly
not to feel guilty that he loves her and understands. He blames Roger's well
planned act for this. Holly doesn't want to involve Roger but Fletch says he's
already involved. Rog wants to know what he did. Fletcher says Rog slept
with Holly and made her pregnant. A stunned look of astonishment covers
Roger's face.

"Pregnant?" screams Dinah from the doorway, "Oh Roger, you're a regular
fertilization factory, aren't you? Sorry Holly, I'd share my maternity
clothes with you but I just don't think we have the same taste...Not in
clothes anyway."

Roger, looking peaked, stammers "Dinah, what the hell are you talking about?"

"Darling, I was about to tell you," states Dinah, gleefully, "We're going
to have a baby."

Now Roger looks like he's the one who's about to lose conciousness.

(The above fantasy sequence was brought to you by ALLIKAT. Dinah wasn't
on today's show at all.)

MATT & BRIDGETTE TELL NOLA TO STICK IT IN HER REARDON
Nola continues to harass Jet about letting Van take Peter to Frnace. She
can't believe that Jet allowed Vanessa to talk her into using Peter in
the first place. Jet and Matt both tell Nola she doesn't know what the hell
she's talking about. Nola goes on and on about "The Chamberlains" and how
they always get their way. She says Jet is being used and does whatever
Van says. Jet objects and Matt tells Nola to lay off. Nola says Matt
can't be objective because he's sleeping with Vanessa. They all go a few
more rounds and Matt asks how Nola can judge Van, she doesn't even know
her. Nola says she knows Van better than he does and that she's married
to a Chamberlain and knows how they operate. Nola says she's doing this
because she cares. Matt says if she cares so much she should leave them
alone and go back to her own kids and her own life and get the hell out
of theirs. Nola storms off. She starts up the stairs but turns and sits
part way up. She's crying.

MANDATORY AIDS MESSAGE FOLLOWS
Susin is putting something on Lucy's desk as Nick enters looking for her.
She says that she can't give him any information on the video phone deal
but he says he just wants her to read a rough draft of an article that
he's writing. He says he wants her opinion because she's the reason he
wrote the article. (I TOLD YOU! I predicted in the last update that he'd
write an article about living with HIV and he has only a week later!)
Susin reads the article for 13 seconds (I counted) while Nick continues
to talk about what a jerk he was the day they met. Apparently it's a
short article because Susin's apparently finished it and tells Nick how
wonderful it is. She tells him that he's really captured what it's like
to be sick without being sick yet. They discuss how you can/can't get HIV
and people's reactions to learning that she's tested positive. Nick says
that if he were in her shoes that he wouldn't answer the HIV question on an
application. (Do companies really ask this?) She says she's tired of lying
about who she is that she's the same person she was before she tested
positive for HIV. Susin again says how good the article is saying it's
some of his best stuff like the article he did on teen pregnancy. Nick
says he wrote that 3 years ago and Susin says she's been reading his stuff
for years and that she was throwing compliments at him left and right the
day they met. He reiterates for the 3rd time during this convo what an
ass he was that day. She hands the article back to him telling him to
hold out for page one. Maniam walks in and they exchange greetings. when
(s)he's out of earshot Nick asks who she is and Susin says that's nice,
shy ol' Marian Crane...

'SCUSE ME LADY BUT YOUR SLIP IS SHOWING...
Manian walks into AM's office with a box of files and tells Lucy/AM that
she's organized them. Lucy asks if she's seen the file for Morgan
Electronics. Manian mutters (gawd! the mask must make it hard to talk I
replayed this 7 times and still didn't get it completely clear) that
Morgan was absorbed by it's holding partner (I think.) AM looks up saying
that that happened 4 months ago. He asks Manian how she knew about that.
Manian stares at him with a panicked expression on her face.
(insert suspense building commercial here)
Manian says that she thought organizing the files would be a good time to
acquaint herself with Spaulding. She apologizes and AM says it's okay,
he's just a little cautious because of a recent security breach involving
a former Spaulding employee. Manian say the Morgan deal was brilliant and
comments that the stockholders must love AM. AM says he just oversaw the
deal that Brent Lawrence put it together. Maniamtalkingaboutmyselfagain
says she can't wait to meet him (wouldn't they make a cute couple?) and
AM stammers that Brent has left. Manian says it's the end of the day and
she still has lots of work to do and excuses herself. This cues AM & Lucy
to get going to their movie. Lucy wants to invite Susin. AM takes Lucy's
head in his hands, nearly ripping it off her neck, and says "How can I say no
to you?" In the reception area, they discover that Nick is there with Susin
and invite them both to come. Nick tells "Michael" he'd be glad to and Lucy
wonders what's with the "Michael." Nick asks if AM's going to lose the
old man's name and AM says "Oh all right, whatever makes you happy." He
tells Lucy he'll answer to anything she calls him within reason. Lucy
says she wants to go see a horror movie that's playing at the Bejou
(sp?) and AM asks her if she's sure she wants to see a scary movie "Not
scary, scary like babysitters and stalkers." she says as the camera pans
back to Manian who is working at Lucy's desk and listening intently to what
they are saying. The quartet leave bidding goodnight to Manian. AM tells
her not to stay too late and as the elevator door shuts, LM whispers "You
kids have fun."

HE SID SHE SID
Charles & Vivian Grant are meeting Gilly for dinner. They are concerned
about how she's doing since she & Sid broke up. It seems Sid has kindly
called them to see if they can talk Gilly into taking his calls. They
tell her that every couple fights and that Sid is a good man and she
could reconsider. Viv is her regular pushy self and despite Gilly saying
that there are irreconcilable differences and problems too big to
overcome, insists that Gil still loves Sid. Gilly says she loved the man
she thought he was but that it's over and she's glad she found out what
he's really like before they walked down the aisle. Viv says all the
anger Gilly is carrying around today may be gone tomorrow. She glances
over Gilly's shoulder causing Gilly to look. Sid is standing there. "A
setup mom?" says Gilly angrily, "When are you going to stop interfering
in my life?"

THEY DIDN'T DO IT BUT NOW HE'S DONE IT!
"You're pregnant?" asks Roger of Holly. "And you think I'm the father?"
he asks Fletcher. Fletcher starts raving about how he won't let Rog hold
this against Holly and how he supports her and how he must have raped her
again, etc. Rog cooly asks if it doesn't stand to reason that Fletch is
the dad to be and wonders aloud what kind of marriage the two kids must
have if Fletcher doesn't trust his wife. Holly is physically restraining
Fletcher from attacking Roger's fist with his face again. Holly tells
Roger to tell Fletcher the truth that they haven't been together since
they broke up. Roger says that he's sorry but he can't do that because
the night that Fletcher saw Rog in Holly's bed they made love. Holly and
Fletcher look like they might fight over who gets to kill Roger first.

HALFTIME!

NOW LET THE LIAR PLAY WITH THE READE
Holly, still holding back Fletcher, screams at Roger that he's a liar and
turns to Fletcher begging him to believe her. Fletch bolts from the room.
Holly then turns to Roger and goes off all over him. She screams at him
for beating Fletch to a bloody pulp and then looking him in the eye and
telling him a lie like that. Rog says that Fletch started it and that
he's concerned about her brand new husband not trusting her. Holly asks
him if he trusts her and he says with his life. She says then he should
trust that she hates him and will always hate him. Roger chuckles and
says: "You really mean that? Your sure now?" in a teasing tone. Holly
screams that if she ever doubted her reasons for getting him out of her
life that she's sure now. She screams that she'll never forgive him. (She
was so pissed I'm surprised she didn't miscarry on the spot.) She storms
out of his suite and Roger chuckles to himself.

JET "TOWERS" OVER NOLA WHO IS "BLUE, MOONING" OVER QUENT. JET
TELLS HER TO JOIN "THE CLUB" AND WONDERS IF SHE'D LIKE SOME "COMPANY"
Nola is sitting in this nifty little window seat on the stairway at the
Boarding house. Jet approaches her and tells her that Matt didn't mean
what he said. Nola says she knows all about the Chamberlains and Jet
talks wistfully about Nola & Quent's courtship and their great romance.
Nola uses the past tense and says how she was so in love with him. She
says that her trip back to Springfield wasn't just a whim and explains
that Quent left her for a 23 year old grad student. She says how much the
kids love and admire their father and how he's bought them away from her.
Jet objects saying that's not possible because Nola is their mom. "But
I'm not a Chamberlain," says Nola tearfully, "I mean face it, would you
rather live there or here?" She says that the Chamberlains have to win
and that's why she butts into Jet's life where Van's concerned. She says
she's lost her babies and doesn't want that to happen to Jet. She begs
Jet not to let Van take Peter away from her. Jet looks at her seriously.

NOW PLAYING, MARIAN CRANE IN PHYCHO!
The new fab 4 enter the movie theatre and Susin and Nick both complain to
"Michael" about there being no butter on the popcorn. They joke around
and as the movie starts, Manian comes in and sits two seats behind Lucy,
staring at her. (insert suspense building commercial here <ISBCH>)
AM puts his arm around Lucy as Manian watches them intently. Then she has
a very creepy fantasy...
Manian is in AM's office crying. Lucy walks in and asks what's wrong.
Manian says she's lonely and nobody likes her. Lucy comforts her saying
that's not true and that she's her friend. Manian asks if Lucy is really
her friend as they embrace. Lucy says she is and Manian calls her a
filthy liar and says she's no friend of hers. (S)he hugs Lucy very
tightly and Lucy looks confused and afraid. LM starts ranting about how
Lucy was the one who made her leave in the first place. She says she had
everything going for her and then Lucy and (switching to BV) her
boyfriend took it from her. Lucy says she's hurting her and begs her to
let go. Manian turns Lucy around and grabs her by the throat. AM comes in
and Manian takes her wig off revealing himself to be Brent. AM is stunned
and speechless. Brent throws Lucy down on her desk and holds a knife to
her throat. He says that Lucy took away everything from him and says that
it's her turn to lose and his turn to win. She and AM scream as he's
about to cut her throat and Manian's fantasy is broken by AM screaming
for real at a scary part of the movie. Manian looks at AM & Lucy with
utter disgust.

SID VICIOUS
Charles asks Viv if she really did ambush Gilly and Viv says that they
were engaged. Chuck chides her saying she knows how he feels about them
interfering in the children's lives. David sits down at the table and
says that's never stopped her. David says it's Gilly's life and asks why
Viv would want to drag her down the aisle w/ someone she's lost respect
for. Vivian says Gilly doesn't know what she's doing because she's too
angry. "Well guess what?" sneers David, "So am I." He leaves and Charles
says he's with David on this one. Sid tells Gilly not to make a scene and
Gilly asks him if he's worried about his image. Vivian butts in saying
that's not fair. Charles says Vivian has done enough and instructs her to
leave with him. Sid says it's not Viv's fault, it's his. He asks Gilly to
let him explain and says he only worked for Alan because it allowed him
to help the old neighborhood. Gilly says she hopes he's happy but that
he's not the man she fell in love with. She turns to leave but
Viviamreallypushingithere grabs her and tells her she's not even
listening to Sid, that he is a good man. Gilly says "Trust me mother, he
has flaws." (Very big of her not to publicize them I think.) Viv asks who
doesn't and says that Sid loves her and that's not something that you
throw away like a used tissue. Charles tells her to stop it and tells
"Gillian" that she has their love and support in whatever she chooses.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
ALLI'S PREDICTION OF THE WEEK: Viv Grant talking about not throwing away
love...could it be that she once threw away true love because the man
didn't have enough money/class? Perhaps a civil rights worker? Was she
pregnant? Did she give her love child up in order to later be accepted
into high society? Did the child grow up to befriend Dinah Marler in Paris?
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

WHENEVER THERE IS TROUBLE HE'LL BE THERE...
Nola suggests that Jet drop the "Aunt" from Nola and they hug. It takes
about 1/4 of a second for her to start in again about the Chamberlains
and Jet & Van's arrangement with Peter. Nola says that Jet gave birth to
Peter and Van is calling all the shots. Jet defends their arrangement
saying it works for them all. She says she didn't have anyone when Peter
was born and Nola says she's sorry about that but that you can be
grateful to someone without owing them your child. Jet says she
misses Petey but that everything is going to be fine. Nola says Van split
town and left her to deal with all the trouble. "What trouble?" asks Jet,
"There's not going to be any trouble." The door swings open and Roger
walks in. Nola leans over Jet's shoulder and whispers "Oh yes there is."

BETTER CHECK THE WARRANTY!
At Reva Bend, Fletcher is doing what every man who thinks his wife got
knocked up by her ex does: lifting weights. When Holly enters he says she
needn't say a word that loves her ' 'til death do us part.' Holly says
that she's not been w/ anyone else since they got together and that she
thinks this has nothing to do w/ Roger but with him. Fletch says that he
got his vasectomy years ago for a good reason and that it's very rare for
them to reverse themselves. He says it's worked for a lot of years and
wonders why it's failed now. Holly advises him to check the warranty
because somehow it happened. She wants him to believe that it's his baby
because it is. She says maybe the knot came loose and some renegade,
persistent little guy got through. She says he has to trust her and asks
who he's going to believe Roger or her.

NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN, PROFESSOR
Nola and Roger greet each other with fake affection and Nola quips that
she hardly recognizes him without a fake beard and Henry Kissinger
accent. He tells Jet he wants to talk to her but she claims to be busy w/
dinner rush. Nola offers to chat with him and asks if he's faked any
good deaths lately. He says he's there to see Peter and asks where he is.
Jet says he's not there and Rog tells her not to play games. Nola tells
him he's handsome when he's angry and he asks her if she's still butting
into everyone's affairs. She hugs Jet protectively and says only his. She
says last time they were together she called the cops on him too. Rog
walks past them towards the stairway and asks if Peter's upstairs. Matt
meets him at the stairs and says he and Vanessa are gone. Rog asks Jet
where Van's taken his grandson. (ISBCH) Jet says she can't and won't tell
him where Peter is and Rog says he has a right to know where his grandson
is. Matt says Vanessa doesn't need permission to take her son on vacation
and Roger steps closer to Jet leering at her menacingly. He tells her
that she doesn't know what she's getting herself into. He walks past her
out the door and Jet gives her best, raised eyebrows, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkaye
then" look. (You know, the one you gave your friends after the teacher
yelled at you or the bully threatened to kick your ass as a kid.)

IT'S RIPLEY'S!
Fletch doesn't know why he's having such a hard time believing what's
happened. Holly says it's pretty wild. Fletch says things happen around
there every day that are a lot wilder and crazier and of course he
believes her. They embrace and he says "Holy Cow! We're gonna' have a
baby! What'da we do now? Oh my gosh. I'm gonna' be a father, you're
gonna' be a mother." (Hate to break it to ya, Fletch, you already are,
she already is.)

IF I'VE SID IT ONCE I'VE SID IT A GILLIAN TIMES, WE'RE THROUGH!
Charles finally hauls Viv out of Company and Sid tells Gilly they can
work it out. Gilly reiterates that they're over and that she's not going
to change her mind. She wishes him the best but says he's not making it
easy. "Good luck? Take care? Remember me always?" asks Sid. Gilly nods
and Sid says "Fine, you got it." He leaves her and David asks if she's
okay. She wipes away a tear and says yeah, it's just harder than she
expected. David holds her as she cries.

MAYBE YOU SWALLOWED IT, ALAN MICHAEL, ER, UH, MICHAEL...
AM is dropping Lucy off at the Boarding House and they are smooching and
talking about how they ate too much at the movie and AM notices that
she's missing an earring. She takes the other one off saying she liked
that pair too. AM says he'll buy her a new pair and she puts her arms
around his neck and they kiss. The earring dangles over his shoulder. Cut
to...Manian dangling Lucy's other earring in his hand and staring at it.
(S)he's sitting in the same spot she was earlier (how Lucy, AM, Susin and
Nick walked by without seeing her I don't know,) but now the theatre is
completely empty. The wicked BV sneers "It's not over Lucy. Our story has
a sequel." He focuses on the earring and creepy music plays.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!
