GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 1995

Highlights:
* Blake thinks she might be pregnant & worries about being a mom.
* Fletch makes room for Daddy.
* Holly gets some shocking medical news.
* Hawk hears a voice from beyond the grave.
* Revabecca fights her memories.
* Josh gets a ruling.

CEDARS HOSPITAL: In Dr. Sedwick's waiting room, Holly leafs through
parenting magazines, wondering where "Mature Woman" is. Blake finds her
there & they proceed to completely misunderstand one another, using
phrases like "it was bound to happen sooner or later" & "it happens to
lots of women your age." Holly's talking about menopause, but she cheers
up when she realizes that Blake's talking about making Holly a grandma.

COURTHOUSE: Josh thinks declaring Reva dead is like losing her all over
again, but he's sure about doing it. He wants a life with Annie & his
kids. Ross expects the petition will be granted by the end of the day.

PAY PHONE NEAR AMISH COUNTRY: Revabecca appears to have forgotten how to
use a telephone, because she just stands there holding the receiver
while Alex gets crabbier by the second on the other end, becoming
convinced that it's a crank call. Finally, Revabecca manages "Hello."

COURTHOUSE: Josh thanks Annie for being with him. She says she'll always
be there for him, except when it comes to changing the oil & mowing the
lawn. The judge, a portly man, shows up & they file into his chambers.
Ross sums up the petition & the judge asks why Josh is trying to beat
the 7-year wait. Josh starts to explain about Annie, but Ross interrupts
& presents the facts surrounding Reva's disappearance on 7/23/90 &
Josh's subsequent search. Josh is seeking closure & recognition that
Reva is "no longer of this world." Annie holds Josh's hand.

TELEPHONE: Revabecca says hello a couple of times, but cranky Alex
doesn't seem to hear her. Hawk barges in & Alex starts railing at him,
forgetting she's on the phone. Meanwhile, Reva haltingly starts
explaining about Alan & the accident, but Alex no longer has the phone
to her ear. Reva can hear Alex & her father arguing about the car
accident. "It's a miracle you're not facing murder one," says Hawk.
"Don't tempt me," replies Alex. Hawk wants some kind of settlement. Reva
looks confused & concerned at the sound of these voices. Alex slams the
receiver onto the desk, leaving the line open, & chases Hawk out of the
house with threats to have Bruno the chauffeur kick his butt. Hawk
promises to pop Bruno's head like a grape.

Hawk somehow makes his way back into the den without Alex. The phone is
still off the hook. He picks it up, planning to implement Plan B--news
coverage. Reva hears the phone being picked up & tries again. "Hello?
Hello? Are you still there?" At the sound of his daughter's voice, Hawk
pales & drops the receiver.

CEDARS: Blake is a week late, so she's hoping she's pregnant. Holly is
thrilled. Blake is less enthusiastic & Holly senses this. Blake says
Ross is all gung-ho, but she doesn't know anything about being a mom.
She pulls out & hugs a stuffed bear that she bought to try to put
herself in the mood. She worries about diapers & play dates & college.
What if she has a daughter like Dinah or herself? Holly reassures Blake
that she'll be a fine mom because she & Ross know what not to do. Holly
says she'll offer advice & Blake can just do the opposite. Blake thinks
having her mom to lean on will help pull her through.

The nurse tells Holly that Dr. Sedwick will be with her soon & Blake
realizes that Holly isn't just there for moral support. What's wrong?
Holly says it's not serious--she's just leaving motherhood behind. Blake
is dense & it takes a few more euphemisms before she realizes Holly's
talking menopause. Blake assures her she's way too young. Holly is
seeing age spots before her eyes. The nurse calls Blake to come for her
blood test. Holly holds the stuffed bear & philosophizes, "One life
cycle begins & another ends. And so it goes." She seems resigned.

THE DOLL HOUSE: Nick helps Fletch move boxes & asks about Holly. She's
been acting pretty weird. Fletch says she's "going through some
changes." Nick thinks it's the marriage & the move. Fletch says it's
more. Nick asks if she's sick. Hotter. Did Rog upset her? Colder. Hot or
cold? asks Nick. Both, says Fletch. Nick is as slow as Blake, but he too
finally gets it. He thinks this is a crazy idea--she's too young to
"start stopping." Fletch says she has good reasons to believe it's true
& Nick had better keep quiet about it. Nick assures Fletch he can
protect a source. Fletch has more stuff to move & Nick worries that
Holly will have a fit. "Have you forgotten what marriage is all about?"
asks Fletch. Nick says he's been trying.

CEDARS: Holly flips through a magazine with articles like "Diaper Dos
and Don'ts" & decides that's enough to make anyone queasy. Blake emerges
& is impatient about having to wait for her results. She worries about
all the things she'll have to do in less than 9 months. What color to
paint the nursery? She'll have to get a crib & clothes & a rattle. And
diapers & pins. Holly says they come without pins these days. And a
name! Who can pick the perfect name in less than 9 months? Holly sits
down, sick to her stomach, but still trying to be a rock for Blake.

Blake tries out names: Christopher Roger Marler. Ross will never go for
a name with Roger in it, warns Holly. Angelica Holly Marler. Molly
Holly? Holly advises not burdening a child with either her or Rog's
name. Blake keeps trying. She likes M's. Maybe she'll make Ross pick the
name & guilt him into changing the diapers too. Holly says Blake must be
pregnant because she's thinking like a mom. Blake's attitude improves.

Dr. Sedwick greets Holly & nags her about being 6 months late for her
checkup. Holly tells Margaret she thinks she's menopausing. Blake offers
her sage medical opinion that everything will be fine, then ruminates on
her possible pregnancy as her mom & the doctor head for the exam room.

SPAULDING DEN: Hawk thinks it can't possibly be Reva, then prays that it
is. He picks up the phone & says, "Reva, darling, is it really you?"
Reva gets scared & hangs up. Hawk keeps talking, asking where she's been
& how she is, until he hears the dial tone. His face falls & he stares
at the receiver, convinced his daughter is alive. Back in Amishtown,
Reva hears echoes of her name in her head.

Alex returns with Bruno, who has to duck when he enters the room to
avoid hitting his head. She sees Hawk in his state of semi-shock &
wonders if he's fallen & can't get up. Hawk gets up & rushes out,
babbling about miracles & having to get to Josh before it's too late.

COURTHOUSE: Ross presents the Coast Guard report, which concludes that
Reva's body was carried out to sea. He also presents records related to
Josh's search & points out that no evidence has been found to indicate
that Reva is alive. Ross also notes that Josh has avoided relationships
out of respect & love for his missing wife [what about Harley &
Tangie?], but now he wishes to marry Annie. He could have taken the easy
way out & lived with her for 2 years until Reva was automatically
declared dead, but he wants to do the right thing by Annie & his kids.

The judge asks Josh if he has any proof that Reva is dead. Josh says he
doesn't have any hard evidence, but-- Hawk bursts in, insistent that
Reva is alive. Ross asks that Hawk be removed. The judge learns that
Hawk is Reva's dad. Hawk babbles on about hearing Reva's voice. He begs
the judge to believe him. Ross & Josh are convinced that Hawk is just
doing this to keep Josh & Annie apart. Josh tells Hawk he's got to face
the truth. Ross angrily demands that Hawk be removed. The judge asks
everyone to quiet down so he can hear what Hawk has to say.

AMISHTOWN: Revabecca makes her way through a hayloft & stands in a
corner, holding a miniature bible to her chest. Memories come back to
her... standing in front of a mirror, wearing a sparkly, backless red
gown. She opens a window & tells herself she is not Reva.

DOCTOR'S OFFICE: After the exam, Dr. Sedwick tells Holly she sees no
signs of menopause. But what about the symptoms? asks Holly. She's
nauseated & dizzy & irritable. Dr. Sedwick says the symptoms are not
from menopause & she wants to run another test. Holly gets worried that
the doctor thinks something is really wrong. Margaret says she can have
the test results in an hour, if Holly wants to wait.

COTTAGE: Fletch wields a sledgehammer & Nick raids the fridge. Both wear
painter's caps. Fletch has just knocked out a closet to make room for a
bookcase & put a hole in the side of the house in the bargain. Oops. The
room needed cross-ventilation anyway. Nick decides to escape before
Holly returns. Fletch is in the swing of things & wants to knock down a
wall to make the kitchen bigger. Nick reminds him that Holly can't cook!
He wants to get out of town before the sledgehammer becomes Exhibit A at
Fletch's murder trial. Fletch isn't worried about Holly's reaction at
all. She's putty in his hands. The phone rings & Fletch answers. It's
Holly. Fletch hands the sledgehammer to Nick & tells him to hide it.

Fletch wonders how Holly knew he was there. Her spies at the office told
her. What's he doing? Just moving in a few things, he says. The place is
pretty full, she notes, was there room? "Oh, I made room," he replies.
Holly tells Fletch she's waiting for test results. She's more annoyed
than anything else & asks him to cancel her afternoon appointments. "To
Hoboken with that," replies her knight in plaster dust. He wants to come
right over, but Holly says it's not necessary. They say good-bye. Fletch
fills Nick in. Fletch worries that something is really wrong with Holly.

AMISHTOWN: Revabecca looks at the cows & the fields & muses on how she
loves them. She doesn't understand her visions of raucous dancing &
drowning. "This is my place. My life, my future, always." She pauses,
haunted by another memory. "Always..." she repeats with furrowed brow.

COURTHOUSE: Ross argues that Josh has supported Hawk for years & Hawk is
just worried that support will end if Josh marries Annie. Hawk insists
it's about Reva. The judge says Josh has no proof that Reva is dead, so
if Hawk has proof she's alive, the judge wants to hear it. Hawk explains
that Alex was on the phone & she put it down & when he picked it up to
hang it up, he heard Reva's voice. Josh believes that Hawk believes
this, because he thought he saw Reva on the videotape 5 years ago. He
saw her everywhere when he was searching. But it was never really her.

"I saw that car go into the water. I know they didn't find the body & I
hung onto that for a long time, just like you are... I nearly ruined my
life & the lives of my children trying to prove that Reva was alive
because I wanted my children to have their mother back & I wanted to
have my wife back. Ever since Reva & I were kids, she was my life. We
were 2 halves of the same whole. We were each other's fate. If I thought
for 1 minute that Reva was still alive... but she's not. She's gone."
Hawk is teary-eyed. Josh reminds him what HB said at the funeral: Reva
lived life loving. That's her legacy--they have to live their lives
loving & he loves Annie & wants to take care of her & his family,
including Hawk. Reva lives on in their hearts & she always will. Always.

The judge says Josh's words are pretty, but a witness has come forward
to contest the claim that Reva is dead. Hawk says he's not doing it to
spite Josh; he really heard Reva. The judge wants Alex to corroborate
Hawk's story. He won't rule until Ross gets her in as a witness.

CEDARS: Holly worries about what's wrong with her. Blake speculates that
it could be anemia or Lyme Disease. Holly berates herself for not
getting her checkup when she was supposed to. Blake tries to keep Holly
calm. Dr. Sedwick will tell them what's wrong very soon. Meanwhile,
Holly says Blake should be happy about her potential pregnancy. She
waxes poetic on the miracle of motherhood. They hug. Blake is sure
nothing is wrong with Holly, because her baby needs its grandma. Holly
complains of nausea. Blake offers to get food, maybe an English muffin,
but Holly's not interested. She'd rather have OJ & some pistachio ice
cream. "No wonder your stomach is upset," Blake comments. She exits in
search of food. Dr. Sedwick returns with Holly's test results.

AMISHTOWN: Charlotte sits with Alan, ruminating on his plight & how
similar it is to the way Rebecca came to them. No wonder Rebecca is so
moved. Revabecca returns & says she was not able to get a message to
Alan's family because there were too many voices on the telephone line.
She thinks they should send him to a hospital & let them contact his
family. Charlotte doesn't understand what's come over Rebecca. R insists
that Charlotte get her husband to take Alan to the hospital. Charlotte
leaves & Reva tells Alan he has to leave so she can live in peace.

COURTHOUSE: Alex yells at Rossfor dragging her down to the judge's
chambers. She sees Hawk & starts yelling at him, thinking he's trying to
bring charges over the car accident. She promises to sue him right back.
The judge enters & she threatens to have him thrown off the bench. He
tells her to check her attitude & asks whether she spoke on the phone
with Reva earlier in the day. "I make more than my share of long-
distance calls, but not to the netherworld," replies Alex. Hawk insists
that Alex was talking to Reva when he walked in. She denies it. The
judge asks if Alex was on the phone when Hawk arrived. She says she was,
but it was a bad connection or a crank call, because she couldn't hear
anyone on the other end, but it wasn't a voice from the dead. Hawk
insists Reva is alive. Alex asks to leave, but Hawk yells at her to tell
the truth. Fine, says Alex: Reva is dead; Hawk said so himself earlier
in the day during an attempted extortion. Hawk accuses Alex of trying to
run him over. Alex says Hawk faked injuries to try to get Spaulding $$.
The judge excuses Alex & Hawk promises to get her. "Eat my fenders!" she
replies as she exits. The judge is prepared to rule.

CEDARS: Dr. Sedwick tells Holly to sit down so they can discuss the test
results. Holly worries that she has Epstein-Barr or bubonic plague.
Margaret laughs & says she knows the news will shock Holly. Now Holly is
sure she is dying. "No, Holly. You're pregnant."

CHAMBERS: The judge says he's reviewed the material presented to him.

AMISHTOWN: Revabecca paces & wonders what's taking so long.

CHAMBERS: The judge says he's heard testimony from Josh, Hawk & Alex, in
regard to the possibility of Reva being alive.

AMISHTOWN: "Hurry, please," says Revabecca. "I want this man gone. I
want the feelings he stirs in me gone."

CHAMBERS: The judge appreciates everyone's feelings, but he is basing
his decision on the evidence before him.

AMISHTOWN: Revabecca stares at Alan as he opens his eyes.

CHAMBERS: The judge grants Josh's petition.

AMISHTOWN: Alan's vision clears. "It's true. I didn't dream it," he
croaks.

CHAMBERS: "This court declares Reva Shayne legally deceased."

AMISHTOWN: "Reva, you're alive," says Alan.

CHAMBERS: Annie hugs Josh as Hawk looks on distrustfully. Josh turns to
look at Hawk as the screen fades to black.

[If it were me, I would have put the hug in the previous chambers scene
& ended with Alan telling Reva she's alive. More dramatic, don't you
think? Sorry, it's an occupational hazard of being an editor!]
