A sunny day with stormy events in Springfield, USA...

ROGER'S SUITE: Dinah admires herself in a handmirror & practices intro-
ducing herself as Dinah Marler Thorpe. She imagines lording it over her
family. "Happy? Well, we're delerious. Roger has given me the one thing
that you didn't: love & unlimited credit." Her reverie is interrupted by
a commotion in the hall. A guard is trying to roust an African-American
fellow he found skulking around. The guy's wearing a black t-shirt,
black jeans, a black knit cap with bands of red & green, & lots of
silver jewelry, including earrings in both ears. Dinah's thrilled to see
him & gives him a big hug. He shoots a defiant look at the guard.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Vanessa repeats Roger's options: drop Dinah or lose
Peter. Rog is incredulous & says she can't do that. She & Matt insist
that they can, since Rog has no legal right to Peter & sees him only
because Van & Bridget let him. Rog approaches his grandson & tells Peter
that his mommies want Poppy to go "bye-bye" & not see him anymore. Pete
doesn't want that, does he? Peter shoves food in his mouth & shakes his
head no. Van grabs Rog's shoulder & tells him to leave Peter out of it.

COUNTRY CLUB POOL: Annie pushes kissy-face Josh away because people are
staring. They get out of the pool & Josh says he was just giving her
mouth-to-mouth rescuscitation. Annie decides she's engaged to a maniac.
Josh announces to everyone at the pool that he's madly in love with
Annie & she's going to be his wife. Everyone claps & Annie hides behind
a towel. Josh wants to get married right away & says they should elope.

COUNTRY ROAD: Reva drives her buggy serenely as Alan, stuck behind her
in his red convertible, honks frustratedly. Opera music blares. Reva
tells herself to pay the city folk no mind--they're a test from the
Lord. "Like flies, they torment us." Alan yells at her to get out of the
way. When Alan calls her "granny," Reva decides he needs to learn the
meaning of patience, & she will teach it to him. She laughs to herself.

POOL: Annie reminds Josh that they can't get married until Reva is
declared dead. Besides, she wants a big wedding. Josh gives in &
announces that the elopement is off. Annie is worried because Marah was
so upset to hear about having Reva declared dead. Josh decides that Hawk
has gotten to Annie. Annie just feels sorry for him. "It's not like I
woke up one morning & decided it was time for Wife #2," argues Josh. He
searched for Reva for 5 years (well, not really--he stopped searching
before he even left Italy, and that was over a year ago) & Hawk saw all
the pain he went through. Annie expresses doubts about "taking over" as
Marah's mom. Josh says the guy who loved Reva is dead & Annie has her
very own place in his heart. Hawk's got to get over it. Annie urges Josh
to give Hawk some slack. "He's trying in his own way," she thinks.
"That's when he can cause the most trouble," warns Josh.

CEDARS: Hawk finds Rick in the locker room & acts like they're old
buddies. Rick greets him pleasantly & shakes his hand, but is somewhat
cold because they hardly know each other & Hawk used to be on his case
for dating (his daughter) Roxie. [Just another little snippet of history
tossed in by Ms. McTavish :-)] Hawk tells Rick to shut up & take a
compliment & Rick loosens up. Hawk thanks Rick for saving Marah's life.
"You and the Mutton woman." :-) Rick corrects him. Hawk expresses
concern about Josh's interest in Annie. "She's a no-go as Reva's
replacement." Rick has trouble believing Marah said that. Hawk says
since Rick knows Annie so well, he'd know if Marah had any real reason
to distrust Annie. "What are you really after?" asks Rick.

REGENCY: The guard argues that Rog left strict orders not to let anyone
up, but Dinah says Rog meant her parents, not her friends. She
apologizes to Marcus, who says he forgot what it was like "over here."
He's apparently been living in Europe for some time. Dinah tells the
guard not to let on to Marcus's fans that he's here. The guard is as
unfamiliar with Marcus as I am. Dinah spins a tale of avoiding mobs &
playing saxophone with Winton Marsalis. "Winton sends you his love,"
says Marcus, blowing a kiss Dinah's way. The guard mistakenly thinks
Marsalis leads the band on the Letterman show. [A little plug there?
Does this mean we'll hear Dave plugging GL soon?] He promises to keep
Marcus's visit a secret from the papparazzi. Dinah stands right behind
him & holds her fingers up behind his head. He asks for an autograph.
Dinah thinks it's very nervy, but Marcus is gracious & autographs the Do
Not Disturb sign for the guard's wife. "Wishing you good sax, Marcus
Williams." :-) The guard is thrilled & leaves with a smile.

Dinah & Marcus giggle over their game & reminisce about good times in
Hamburg. Marcus says Europe's been dead since Dinah left. She wants to
hear all the gossip, but he wants to hear about "this Thorpe guy... Is
he your current victim?" Dinah sighs. "Well, my parents think I'm his."

BOARDINGHOUSE: Van tells Rog not to use Peter. "It's only OK when you do
it," observes Rog. Jet calls a time-out to take Pete upstairs for his
nap. Rog kisses his grandson & says, "Poppy will see you later!" "Or
not," replies Matt. Rog says they're trying to blackmail him. Did he
think they were going to let him ruin their daughter's life? asks Van.
Rog finds this amusing, since Van let Dinah be raised by "circus geeks."
:-) Van repeats her "I didn't know" refrain, but Rog charges that she
was too busy being a self-indulgent socialite to give a damn about her
daughter. "And you do?" retorts Van. Rog reminds Van that she & Ross
threw Dinah out of their lives & he took her in. "For what price?" asks
Van. Rog says she "more than earns her keep," which earns him a venomous
"son-of-a-bitch" from Van. Matt intervenes.

Rog asks Matt for his take on the situation. Matt thinks Rog is using
Dinah to get back at Van & Ross, & the less Pete sees of Rog, the
better. Rog insists that he loves his grandson. Van believes that & she
also believes Rog would do anything to protect Peter. She feels the same
about Dinah. So it's Rog's choice--who will he choose? Jet returns from
upstairs & Rog approaches her. Is she going to let Van use her & Peter
this way? Matt says Jet agrees with Van. Rog wonders & hints at dire
consequences. Jet remains silent & Van says Jet is with them in the
decision. Rog wants to hear it from Jet. She glances toward Van & Matt,
then returns her gaze to Rog.

"I don't give a rat's rump about Dinah; she's an adult," says Jet. Jet
speaks as though she's just trying to be fair. Rog doesn't care about
Dinah; he's just using her to get back at D's parents. Rog warns Jet
that she's in over her head. "They're using Peter against me this time;
next time it could be you." What if Van doesn't like someone Jet dates?
Van & Matt come to Jet's side & Matt says Rog is just trying to
manipulate her. Rog reminds Jet how *he* came to her rescue during the
custody battle. Van recalls that Rog tried to get Peter for himself. She
mouths to Jet that Rog is just trying to use her. Jet nods slightly in
acknowledgement. Rog calls Jet Van's "patsy of the week" & says Van
doesn't care about anyone but Dinah, "the daughter that she decided to
give away rather than fight to keep--fight like you fought!"

Van says this isn't fair. No less fair than the way Van is using Peter,
yells Rog. He turns back to Jet & insists that he's been a good grand-
father & is Jet going to repay that by letting Pete be a weapon in a
battle that's not even hers? Matt & Van offer quiet encouragement. Rog
urges her to stand up for herself. "Don't let them make Hart's son a
pawn." Extreme close-ups of Matt, then Van, then Jet. "You dump Dinah or
you're never going to see your grandson again," says Jet through gritted
teeth. Rog stares at Jet for a long moment, then says she's made a big
mistake. Matt steps between them & warns Rog not to threaten his sister.

CEDARS: Hawk continues trying to convince Rick that Marah's upset about
Josh & Annie, but Rick's not buying. Annie doesn't have a mean bone in
her body. "Well she's got something that sets you off," counters Hawk,
explaining how Marah heard Rick call Annie a liar. Rick says Marah must
have misunderstood, but Hawk believes her. If Rick knows something about
Annie, he should tell. Rick says Annie's the most giving person he's
ever met, with a good heart & soul. "How long have you had a thing for
the woman?" asks Hawk. Rick laughs & says you get to know people pretty
well when you work closely with them. He thinks she's great for Josh &
the kids. If she's so great, why's she keeping secrets, insists Hawk.
Rick maintains that Marah must have overheard some professional
disagreement. "Annie is the best thing that can happen to Lewis," says
Rick with conviction. Annie enters in time to hear this & thanks Rick.
Josh asks Hawk what he's doing there.

COUNTRY ROAD: More serene Reva & frustrated Alan. She decides he's a
quick-headed heathen who is quick to anger but slow to learn. She slows
the horses & weaves back & forth across the road, making it even more
impossible for Alan to pass. He keeps honking. Finally, he manages to
squeeze by her & startles the horses. Reva pulls back hard on the reins.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Matt says Rog started the whole thing by waltzing into
the Towers with Dinah. Rog gets vicious & Matt points out to Jet how Rog
is only a friend when he wants something. Rog thinks Matt should stay
out of it. Matt says if Rog really cares about Peter as much as he says,
he ought to reconsider the offer: a future with his grandson or a little
short-term revenge. Rog says he has a right--Peter is "his." No one
backs down, so Rog warns Matt that he'll be sorry & then leaves.

CEDARS: Annie takes Rick aside & Josh starts giving Hawk hell. Hawk
claims he was just thanking Rick for saving Marah. Josh doesn't buy this
& reminds Hawk to leave Annie alone. Hawk says Rick was just singing
Annie's praises. Josh is still angry, but they're interrupted by
Lillian, who is thrilled to see Hawk. They hug. Hawk thinks Lil is still
an exciting woman. Lil asks where Sarah is & Hawk says she's still in
Italy. "You left her behind," notes Lil. "And the rest of her, too,"
jokes Hawk. She asks how long he'll be in town; he doesn't know.

In another room, Annie thanks Rick for defending her to Hawk. She's a
little surprised, after their fight. Rick says Marah overheard them &
Annie is worried that she heard about the drinking. Rick says she didn't
& it's no big deal. Marah thinks Annie & Josh are a match made in
heaven. "Is my kid a genius or what?" asks Josh from the doorway.

REGENCY: Dinah & Marcus share jumbo shrimp & mushrooms in pastry. She
says he's a great sax player even if Winton doesn't know it yet. Marcus
is still smarting from the way he went from "suspcious-looking black
male" to "hip role model" in the blink of an eye. He asks if that's what
he should expect in Springfield. Dinah hopes the guard was an exception.
Marcus thinks Dinah has landed in a pot of gold. She straightens up a
little & says it's not all hers. He says that never stopped her before--
she trashed every hotel in Paris & made rock bands look neat. She says
she's trying to change a little for Rog. Marcus thinks this isn't Dinah
at all. Dinah thinks she's in love. "It's a good thing I got here when I
did," says Marcus. He asks how old Rog is. "I cannot stand men my own
age," Dinah states, except as friends. Marcus says Rog had better be
wonderful or answer to him. He asks for some aspirin & she points him
toward the bathroom. She says Roger took her in & Marcus will love him.

Rog enters & sees that the place is still a mess. He's furious. Why did
he think she might start acting like an adult? He overturns the room
service cart & yells, "What the hell is the matter with you?!" Marcus
returns & says Rog asked a good question. "How about an answer?"

Dinah holds Marcus back as she introduces him to Rog as her best friend.
"I forgot to tell you that he's moody sometimes," she adds to Marcus.
She then asks Rog why he's being such a jerk. Rog apologizes & says he's
having a very bad day. Marcus looks menacing & warns that Rog had better
not take it out on Dinah. Rog is very contrite says he would never hurt
Dinah--she's very precious to him. He hugs Dinah & kisses her on the
forehead. Dinah realizes the meeting with Van must not have gone well.
He promises to tell her later.

Rog asks Marcus how long he'll be in town. Marcus isn't sure. He
prepares to leave as Dinah protests that they haven't had a chance to
talk & he doesn't even know where he's staying. He promises to call.
Dinah hangs on Marcus's arm & practically begs Rog to let him stay in
the living room. Rog waffles politely. Marcus opts out. Rog offers to
put Marcus up in a room in the hotel. Dinah thinks Rog is wonderful, but
Marcus doesn't look too sure. Rog sends Dinah & Marcus to lunch at the
country club on his account. Dinah promises to pay Rog back later, wink,
wink. She & Marcus head out.

Rog calls Leo & orders him to come over immediately. After listening to
an apparent protest, Rog responds, "I don't give a damn how much you
paid her; this can't wait! [ROTFL!] Vanessa has upped the stakes & I'm
going to drive one right through her heart!"

CEDARS: Josh apologizes to Rick for Hawk's behavior. Hawk comes in &
announces that he's taking Lil to Company. He wants to borrow $20 from
Josh. Josh refuses & warns Hawk not to hit Rick up for the money either.
"This won't be the 1st time you've finegled a free meal out of Lillian,"
Josh says by way of reassurance. Hawk leaves, shaking his head. Josh
decides he'd better go warn Lillian. He kisses Annie good-bye.

Annie hears that Rick is going to head up a new trauma team at the
hospital. She's excited for him because it's what he always dreamed of.
She hopes he's considering her for the team. Rick's beeper goes off, so
he says they'll talk about it later.

COUNTRY ROAD: Alan speeds off while Reva tries to control her galloping
horses. Further up the road, Alan pulls off to the side. He can't start
the car. In the buggy, Reva can't slow the horses. She leans back so
hard on the reins that she falls backward into the buggy. The horses
continue to race as she struggles to regain her seat.

POOL: Dinah & Marcus enjoy drinks at poolside while recalling all the
posh places they've been thrown out of. Marcus offended Princess
Stephanie when he asked her if she was "into sax" & was charged with
"behavior offensive to the civilized world." Marcus turns the convo back
to Rog. He thinks Rog is capable of blowing at any time. Dinah blames it
on her mother. She says he & Rog understand each other because they've
both been hurt by people who should love them. Marcus doesn't understand
Dinah's taste in men & thinks she's an easy target. Why does she waste
her time on old guys. Dinah thinks Rog is distinguished. "Where is Freud
when you need him?" wonders Marcus.

Dinah denies having a thing for older men, but Marcus remembers a few,
including Sergio the walking liver spot & Spain's oldest bullfighter.
Dinah insists that Rog is in the prime of his life. She wants Marcus to
like him. She can buy whatever her heart desires & it makes her feel
loved. Marcus thinks she could do much better, but she says he's jealous
because he doesn't have anyone. Marcus claims he was seeing Sade, but
she wanted a commitment. He'd rather be independent. Dinah doesn't think
she's dependent. Hah! Marcus shares my incredulity. Dinah says it's not
her fault she fell in love with a wealthy guy. She's tired of having to
explain herself. Marcus drops it. He asks what happened to her trust
fund. Dinah says Van is holding it back as a means of punishment. Marcus
wonders why. Because she hates me, says Dinah. "My own mother hates me."

BOARDINGHOUSE: With Rog gone, Jet & Van have words. Van's asking for
Jet's help because she loves & is scared for Dinah. Jet says Dinah is a
spoiled brat & Van has no idea what other guys she's been with. "Maybe
Roger's the cream of the crop!" Van is sure that Dinah will get hurt.
Jet says everyone gets hurt. She's angry at Matt & Van for guilting her
into the blackmail. She reminds them that she's now at the top of Rog's
hit list. Matt urges Jet not to be intimidated, but Jet knows what Rog
can do. Van backs her up on this, but reminds Jet that he preys on
people's weaknesses, so they can't get hurt if they hang together. Rog
doesn't care enough about Dinah to risk losing Peter. Jet goes upstairs.

REGENCY: Leo advises Rog to just drop Dinah & be done with it. Girls
like that are a dime a dozen. The service Leo has can get Rog anything
he wants. ;-) Rog is outraged at Vanessa & isn't going to let her get
away with it. It's time to bring Hart back into the picture, he decides.
Leo's assignment is to find Roger's son.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Jet returns from checking on Peter, who is smiling in his
sleep, unaware that the people who love him are using him as a pawn.
Matt says Rog will give in. Jet disagrees. "We crossed a line today.
There is no telling what this man will do now."

REGENCY: Leo just has to get Hart back to Springfield. Rog will take
care of the rest. "Has second-hand smoke affected your memory?" asks
Leo. He reminds Rog that Hart disappeared last time Rog tried to find
him. Rog says he won't make the same mistakes again. He's figured
everything out down to the last detail.

CEDARS: Annie sees the trauma team notice on the bulletin board & is
haunted by Rick's voice in her head, telling her to tell the whole
truth.

COUNTRY ROAD: Reva tries unsuccessfully to climb back into her seat.
Alan curses his car & pops the hood. The horses speed along the road &
the opera music blares as the screen fades to black.
