  BOARDINGHOUSE KITCHEN

Peter is eating. Bridget looks at the Journal headline "Alan Spaulding
Walks" and tells Peter that "money buys miracles". Matt and Vanessa come
down the stairs. Bridget, "I didn't know you stayed the night." Vanessa
says she didn't, they want to talk to her about something. Since Dinah
has moved in with Roger and he doesn't care about her, he's using her to
get back at Vanessa and Ross. Dinah will be his real victim. Bridget
thinks that's a shame, but it was Dinah's decision and there's nothing
they can do about it. Vanessa says she can, if she plays by Roger's
rules: take away the one thing that he cares about. Bridget wonders what
that has to do with her. They look at Peter. Bridget, "You want to use
Peter to bail Dinah out?"

  ROGER'S SUITE

The place is a mess. Dinah's clothes are everywhere. Roger, "SLOB.
Disgusting." He throws a shoe at Dinah (who's on the bed reading the
paper, listening to a walkman & smoking). Roger asks her why her shoe
and bra are on the room service tray. He tells her to put out the
cigarette, he doesn't want to breathe second-hand smoke. She asks why
he's so crabby. He asks her if she ever picks up after herself, the
place is a pigsty. She blames the maid. He says it was immaculate when
they came back yesterday afternoon. She had trouble deciding what to wear
to dinner last night, that's why there is a mess. He complains some
more: he found food in the bathroom, the bathroom has water all over the
place, toothpaste on the door handle, and "What are you doing with my
razor? Scraping floors with it? I can't live like this!" Dinah tries
to get him back into bed, but he's had it. He asks her to pack her stuff
and get out.

  GOSHEN

Rebecca/Reva sweeps dust under a rug. Her neighbors arrive to welcome
her back and to help her clean. They are glad to have her back, they
thought they'd lost her. Rebecca, "I will never leave here again."

  SPAULDING MANSION

Alan walks into a room full of reporters asking questions about "his
ex-lover" Tangie. Alan gets upset, but Alex tells him to be nice and
give a statement about being vindicated. "My brother can be shy at the
oddest moments." Alan has nothing to say and tells them to leave. Alex
tells Alan to be a sport, the reporters have been waiting all night.
Alex tells them that it's an emotional time for Alan and she was
overzealous in having them come in. Alan says Alex was being
vindictive. Alex promises the reporters a written statement in two hours
and ushers them out. Alan tells her that she is out of her mind. She
laughs and tells him he should have seen his face, he could have broken a
mirror with it. She was trying to force him out of his self-pitying mode
he was in. She tells him to get over the girl. Alan says to hell with
all of them, he's done with them. Alex thinks they should celebrate and
wants to tell him about changes at Spaulding. He tells her that he's
leaving town.

  ROGER'S SUITE

Dinah's picking up. Roger tells her to use an ashtray if she has to
smoke. She couldn't find one, room service will come and clean up.
Roger, "If we had the entire staff on duty full-time they couldn't keep
pace with your mess." Dinah, "If you bought me a maid's outfit we could
make cleaning fun." Roger, "I will not live like this." Dinah didn't
realize this was bugging him, she'll make sure not a thing is out of
place. He'll believe that when he sees it. She just needs to be
reminded if she forgets. He doesn't have the time, energy or patience to
train her. "If I did, I'd get myself a puppy." Dinah, "I'd prefer to be
compared to a cat. If you're nice to me, I'll sit on your lap and
purr." He'll keep that in mind. She didn't think he'd kick her out over
this. He's not going to kick her out, but get a suite with a room for
each of them. He leaves. She looks around the room, "It's not that bad.
People in this town must have a neatness disease."

Knock, knock. It's Henry. He wants to talk to Roger. Dinah wants to
explain why she's living with Roger. He tells her not to bother and
warns her that nothing she can say will change his mind. She tells him
that she had nowhere else to go, her mother & father are trying tough
love. Henry says that Roger is not to be trusted. She tells him that
Roger is kind & generous & they have fun together. Henry says that
proves how insidious Roger can be. Dinah, "He's been good to me."
Henry, "That's his method, he gets your trust and learns your weaknesses,
then he zeros in on them and uses you to his own gain." Dinah says he's
talking about someone else, Roger enjoys making her happy. Henry tells
her he's a dangerous man. Because of Roger he tried to kill himself.

  BOARDINGHOUSE

Bridget doesn't give a damn about Dinah and won't use Peter to bail her
out. Vanessa says it's not Dinah's fault, Roger charms & seduces people
to get what he wants. Bridget thinks Vanessa is putting Dinah's welfare
above Peter's. Matt & Vanessa say they would protect him with their
lives. Bridget doesn't understand, Roger has been good to her and great
with Peter. He came over to sing Peter a lullaby. Why do they want to stir
things up. They know how Roger can get and there's no guarantee he'll
dump Dinah. Matt thinks he'll dump her, Roger doesn't giva damn about her.
Bridget doesn't give a damn about her either, Dinah deserves exactly what
she gets.

  GOSHEN

More gifts for Rebecca/Reva (a blanket she admired and a carving of a
deer that the woman's great-grandfather carved). She doesn't want to
accept the family treasure, but she's told that she's a part of the
family. Abigal arrives (Rebecca saved her life) with pink roses. As
Rebecca/Reva smells them, she remembers part of her wedding to Josh.
(She's carrying a bouquet of pink roses.)

  BOARDINGHOUSE

Matt tells Bridget that she knows what it's like hooking up with the
wrong guy. She tells him to stop talking about Skunk. <David comes down
the stairs and listens> Matt tells her that she did things she wouldn't
normally do. Bridget says that when she gets into trouble, she bails
herself out and doesn't expect other people to save her. Matt says not
everyone is as tough as she is. Bridget, "Dinah could win a wrestling
contest with a crocodile." Matt, "Roger's worse than that and you know
it." Bridget asks why they think they know all about this situation.
Vanessa tells her that Roger is using Dinah to get back at everybody
who's ever hurt him. Bridget, "All the more reason not to get Peter
involved." Vanessa asks what she would do if Peter did something that
would hurt him, would Bridget stand by and let it happen? Bridget says
they aren't talking about Peter. Vanessa knows her relationship with
Dinah is messed up, but she is her daughter and she has to help her. She
needs Bridget's help. Bridget wonders how she can use her son against
his grandfather. David opens the door. He helped bring Peter into this
world and he has to say something: If Roger had his way, he'd have
custody of Peter. He'd cut Bridget out of her son's life.

  ROGER'S SUITE

Henry tells Dinah that he was a compulsive gambler and played a poker
game with Roger, where he gambled away everything, even Dinah's trust
fund. Dinah, "My trust fund is gone?" Henry tells her they got it all
back. Before they got it back, he felt desperate & humiliated,
embarrassed, guilty. The only solution was to take his life, but Vanessa
stopped him. Roger is an evil man. Henry wouldn't have told her about this
if he wasn't worried about her. He will give her money to get her on her
feet-- as much as she needs, just get away from Roger.

Roger arrives, "Just a few days ago he was thanking me for saving your
life and now I find him bad mouthing me behind my back. You're a little
late, the rest of your family has done it, now beat it." Dinah tells him
to stop talking like that to her grandfather, just leave him alone. She
invited him in here. Roger says he's filling her head with garbage, just
another messenger from her mother. Henry asks her to come home with
him. She tells Roger she's considering it since he is sick of having her
around anyway. Henry asks her to leave. Dinah has to take care of a few
things first. Before Henry leaves he tells Roger that the first time he
saw him was in the Spaulding cafeteria. Roger stole a drinking glass,
not because he needed it, but because he had to take something. Roger
hasn't changed. Henry walks out.

Roger calls Henry pompous, overbearing & superior, treating him like some
busboy swiping the tip off the table. He asks Dinah if this sounds
familiar to her, isn't this what she's take all her life, most recently
from her mother & father. He rants & raves, but she just watches him.
Roger, "Sure they want you back, without you they don't have a dog to
kick." She asks if it's true he took everything from her grandfather in
a card game. He asks if it's true she stole money from a charity &
kidnapped herself, "Your grandfather was an old fool. Nobody asked him
to risk his family's fortune. And then he didn't have the guts to take
responsibility for his own actions. Whining & sniveling after he lost
it." Dinah, "You are a bastard! And maybe you are using me to get back
at my family & I am out of here." Roger tells her, "Don't leave me
please." She turns around.

  GOSHEN

Rebecca/Reva is asked if she'll marry. No, she's content to be among
friends. It was a miracle she found her way here and she doesn't know
what she would have done if she hadn't come here. She is told that someone
fell and broke her hip, so she offers to go see the woman after their meal.
They tell her they missed her singing too, so she starts a song and the
other join in as they walk to a neighbor's for the meal. "Tis a gift to
be simple, tis a gift to be free..."

  SPAULDING MANSION

Alan is listening to a music box play the same tune. He packs the
envelope of money and calls Sid to tell him the transfer papers are on
their way over to him. Alan tells Alex goodbye and starts humming the
song. She apologizes and tells him to stop humming. He tells her he's
leaving and doesn't know where he's going. He just wants to get away
from here, it feels like a mausoleum. He won't spend the rest of his
life in this monument to their ego. Alex says he has her. He tells her
that she's no consolation, she ran to A-M behind his back. Alex knew she
could count on blabbermouth, Glen 'Target'. Alan's not upset, he's not
playing those games anymore. He doesn't care about A-M, Tangie or her.
Alex says it won't be so bad working with A-M, sort of like he planned to
do it with his son. Alan says she's welcome to it. Alex asks him about
signing over his proxy to her. He says that's not possible, she can't
have it. He won't tell her what he's done or how to reach him. He'll
send her a postcard. She throws the music box to the floor and smashes
it with her heel.

  BOARDINGHOUSE

David says he has no love for Dinah, but she's in over her head with
Roger. Vanessa is in a desperate situation, otherwise she wouldn't have
come to Bridget with this. He leaves, so does Vanessa & Peter. Bridget
asks Matt why Vanessa can't cut off Dinah. He asks if she could do that
with Peter. Bridget tells him to stop comparing Peter & Dinah. Matt
tells her if Roger knows she's on Vanessa's side, he'll drop Dinah.
Bridget asks why he's so concerned about saving Dinah. He's worried
about Vanessa. He tells her to do it for him.

  ROGER'S SUITE

Roger, "Don't leave me." Dinah has an offer from her grandfather, so she
won't have to stay around and bug Roger. Roger tells her he needs her,
she reminds him about earlier. He says he was in a bad mood, he's older
and more set in his ways, that doesn't change the way he feels about
her. She asks how is that. Roger, "I'd be lost without you. You leave,
you take my happiness with you." She asks why she should believe him, he
did the same thing at the country club. One minute he could care less
about her and the next he's running to her rescue. Roger says they are
alot alike, they play the game: fast, hot, on the edge. Dinah tells him
she was serious about him. Roger tells her that the night of the 5th
street ball, when he lost Holly, she saved his life and he didn't want
her to. She made him realize he had a reason for living. She asks if he
really cares. He says he does, that's why he helped her mother when
Dinah was kidnapped. "Doesn't the way I make love to you show you how I
feel?" They kiss. "Can't you tell?" They kiss again.

  ON A ROAD SOMEWHERE

Alan is driving a red convertable in the country and listening to opera.
He gets behind a horse-drawn wagon that he can't pass.

  BOARDINGHOUSE

Vanessa and Peter come back. Peter gives flowers to Bridget, "Here
Mommy". She thanks him and asks for a kiss, he gives her a kiss. Matt
helps him find a vase for the flowers. Vanessa tells Bridget that it's
her decision.

  ROGER'S SUITE

In bed, Roger tells Dinah that she's a beautiful girl, she's perfect,
exquisite, yummy, he can't believe he's so lucky. She's lucky too, she
won't leave. This is exactly where she wants to be. The phone rings.
It's Vanessa. Roger asks if she's reporting in, "How's the drilling on my
land?" Vanessa hopes she's not calling at a bad time. He says he &
Dinah are caught up in something. Dinah, "Tell her you can't talk, that
we're busy". Roger tells Vanessa to call later or make an appointment
with his secretary. Vanessa tells Roger to come to the Boardinghouse
right away. This is important & something he'll want to hear. He agrees
to go over there. He tells Dinah it's probably about her, but nothing
could drag him away from her.

Dinah puts on Roger's robe and laughs, "He does love me. I knew it."

  BOARDINGHOUSE

Roger arrives. Matt, Bridget, Vanessa and Peter are waiting for him. He
picks up Peter and asks for a kiss. He asks Vanessa what's the
emergency, he's late for a meeting. He assumes it's about Dinah.
Vanessa tells him it's about Peter.

Roger: "What about him?"
Vanessa: "It's time for you to make a decision."
Roger: "About what?"
Vanessa: "Lose my daughter or lose your grandson."
Roger looks shocked.

  ON A ROAD SOMEWHERE

Alan is still behind the wagon. He honks at her and tells her to move
it, it's almost the 21st century. He tries to pass, but can't. Reva
just shakes her head, but doesn't turn around so that he can see her face.
