On a sunny Springfield morning, Bill Lewis (index cards cum dating
"Cilff" notes in-hand) calls Michelle Bauer to ask her for an evening
together on the town. Their first _real_ date. Apprehension is
understandably high, as is fear of failure.
Michelle responds favorably (and as nervously as her young suitor),
then --- disaster strikes: Bill drops his "cheat sheets" and the order
of questions and comments are mixed-up...Mr. Man must punt:
Bill: "Hold on a minute...would you like to go on
           a date...with me?? Michelle??"
   Mich: (big pause) ...I'm here...
Bill: "Maybe's something's wrong with the phone; did you hear me?"
Mich: "You mean like a _real_ date?"
Bill: "Yeah, sure; a "date" date.
   Mich: "Where would we go?"
Bill: "Uh...the video arcade, maybe...or maybe bowling...
           or the movies...uh...ok?"
   Mich: "Yes."
Bill: "Oh, wow!...uh, ok, cool. Did you say yes to the arcade,
or the bowling or the movies?"
   Mich: "You decide."

Touchdown, home run, goal; game, set, match.
The Dynamic Duo-ette decide to see the movie near the beach (7pm),
and to go for a walk by the shore, afterwards.
Will horniness prove to be a thorn on this young rose?

And though it's harvest time, there are an abundance of items just
in-bloom, ranging from sibling loves, old loves, and the love of friends
and family, to unbridled lust for power and fortune.
Ah, innocence set in intrigue; the theme for today in ---

                             The Alan Zone

   Company.
David brings Dylan down to the basement to meet Gabriella, who has
again taken a, ahem, "powder". Dylan retreats upstairs for some oj and a
chat w/ Jet prior to leaving for his construction site.
Gabriella, black hair flowing and denim-clad, re-appears, de-lurking
from a musty corner. After a few "choice" words from Dave concerning her
penchant for grand exits, Gabby indicates she may stick around her new
environs for a while.
On the boarding house's back stairway, Lucy, unaware that Matt has
decided to take Dylan's job offer, brainslaps him for running out on his
sister, then leaves to volunteer her services at Dylan's project.

Bill drops by to consult w/ his big brother. Seems he isn't quite
sure when to "bust a move" on (read: kiss) Michelle. :)
Dylan advises him to let nature take its course, and when the time's
right, he'll know.
Michelle arrives later, seeking counsel from Bridget; she's concerned
about kiss-attempts on The Date. Jet offers that the "good girls not
kissing thing" is a myth, and to go with the flow.
[It appears the new Kitchen Goddess of Springfield
and her squire have the youngsters well in-hand. ;)]

At the construction site, Matt surprises Dylan (and impresses Lucy)
by demonstrating expertise w/ a front-loader (seems he's generally
well-versed in the use of heavy equipment).
David and Jet arrive with a cooler of food, and just in time, because
Dave has to fly-tackle Dylan out of harm's way when Matt almost drops a
load of bagged concrete on his head.
A fight nearly breaks out (Dylan: "You trying to tell me something,
Matt??!..."), and Matt storms off-site in anger. Bridget calls Dyl's
attention to the real culprit: a cut hydraulic hose.
Someone is again playing games with the brother's livelihood...

   WSPR.
Gilly (wearing a bizarre (and large) cameo on her neck) is having
trouble getting Roger to sign off on a project. She exits in a huff
("..wait'll Nick hears about this..."), just as Holly bops in with their
invite to "Alexandra's party".
Roger: "What's wrong with this picture??"
Holly suggests that Alex may be trying to consolidate the empire
prior to Alan's release from prison. Roger tosses the invite in the
wastebasket, noting that he's no longer sniffing after Spaulding, so the
decision to attend is moot. Holly counters that she's had a change of
heart, and perhaps Roger should break south with his empire-building
strategies.
   Rog: "As a woman, you fascinate me;
as a _thinking_ woman, you intrigue me!"
Hol: "Do you suppose Alex found out you recently
obtained a copy of her brother's financial situation?"
Rog: "But I haven't even looked at it..."
   Hol: "...maybe you should."
   Rog: "Woo!"

A bit later, Sid and Gilly are discussing the solidity of her
contract, and ways to get Roger off her back ("...maybe we can get rid
of Roger by _frustrating_ him to death...") when Nick pays a visit.
With his upcoming duties as president of Spaulding, he no longer as
time to doodle at WSPR. Gilly is given carte blanche to act in Nick's
stead (essentially as co-owner of the station), provided she checks-in
w/him once a week [!]. And if she should manage to deep-six Thorpe along
the way...
Alone, Sid allows to his new amore that, with this newfound power,
she's definitely "dangerous" (and he likes it. :) ).
Gilly: (smiling broadly) "Only to Roger Thorpe...".

Chez Lindsey, Roger and Holly are in her bedroom, preparing rather
half-heartedly for "Alex's party" (the fact that they're in _her_ room
is significant, and I'll discuss this in a follow-up post).
Instead of looking at Alan's financial folder, Roger puts a Bic to
the sucker (out of fear of jail-time for his love should she be caught-
up in the intrigue). Holly stops him ("Your point has been taken...")
then raises the gambit that Alex may well want to bring Rog back on-
board (read: job) at Spaulding out of fear of Alan and concern for
Nick's corporate well-being!
Holly: "...maybe we should pay her a little visit tonight..."

   Matriarch Mansion.
Alex is beside herself with joy over her brother's seemingly
magnanimous mass dinner invite. The possibility of reconciling with
Alan thrills her, but Alex has great difficulty trying to convince
Fletcher to attend (along with Mindy, Nick and Donna & Ginger [!]). Even
Nick's measured enthusiasm and Mindy's glowing priase of A doesn't sway
him.
Al raises mega-houha about attire, etc. (even brings in a private
manicurist), and is in seventh heaven at the prospect of having it all
(family, fortune, love). Fletch finally relents at the "eleventh hour",
and after the maids pass inspection [;)], everyone is loaded into the
limo for the long trip to the prison.

Meanwhile a thug has slipped into WSPR, and retrieved Roger and
Holly's invitation from the wastebasket. A short time later, he and a
"cast of thousands" (workers, caterers, etc.) exit the secret passageway
at Spaulding mansion, joining Alan's right-hand "man", Susan, to execute
what is apparently to be a meticulously conceived brainslap!

Woo! The trap has been sprung!
To quote the Big A himself:
   "Guess who's coming to dinner!"

   Cliffhanger!
