			Guiding Light Update

				for

			Tuesday August 30th

Opening shot is of the outside of Company. Very nice looking
building. Meanwhile a bouncy, melodic bass line is playing.

	The basement of Company:

David trots down the stairs into the nasty glare of a peevish Gabriella.
Seems she is not a morning person. He offers her a few things that she
complains about (food, bed, etc.) and then asks her more questions about
the hijacking. She says she has given him the key chain and that should
be enough. She's had enough.

Enter a wonderful piano part. This goes on for the entire intro scenes. It
makes everyone a joy to watch. I would almost go so far to say as to say
that this music is "funky". Almost. In Carmen Sandiego's league.

	Top floor of Company:

Bridget is looking through her socks in her sock drawer, while a snoozing
Dylan is seen in the background. Dylan wakes up and asks what she is looking
for. She says money, and tells a tale of why she hides her money in a sock.
More of the dysfunction of the Reardon's comes through as Bridget tells
a sob story of how when she lost a tooth once, her father put a quarter on
her pillow, but Matt stole it before she awoke. But still Bridget is looking
for money for Matt (how ironic!), because he is leaving today.

	The bathroom of Company:

Gabriella with towel is being led by David to the bathroom. She gives him
the gift of her company a little more, and he runs off. She opens the door
to find a wet Matt (who is apparently not allowed to wear a shirt according
to his contract). He actually complains "ever hear of knocking?" to which
he is actually out obnoxioused with "ever hear of locking?"

	The Springfield Journal:

Tangie has come back to work. Holly thought she would be taking the day off
but seems pleased when Tangie says she needed to get back to work. Holly
tells Tangie that everyone seems to know about the attack. On cue, the Lewis
clan appears (Josh, Vanessa, and Mindy) with flowers.

	The Spaulding Mansion:

There is a crowd surrounding Alex. Lucy, Ginger, Donna, and Nick are jabbering
away. Nick tells Alex he wants to talk. Lucy realizes that a letter she took
for a bill is actually a real letter. Alex opens it to find an invitation
from Alan.

---cut to commercial--

We return to a hearty Alex laugh. The letter is apologetic (with a bit of
irony for those of us who know his true motivations), begging her for a
homecoming and thanking her for her sorarial (sp?) affections. He wants
her to visit him tonight in jail (for a dinner, no less!). And he wants
Nick, Mindy, Fletch, Ben, et. al. to come along. Alex thinks it sounds
interesting. Nick doesn't like it. He thinks Alex is too sick. He is going
to call Ed, when Alex says "Ed is not going to find one thing wrong with me."

	Bridget and Dylan:

Dylan thinks Matt is a slacker. Bridget gets defensive, says he is quite
a handyman, but Dylan has already done all that work around Company, so
Matt is useless (okay that was not quite what she meant). She is planning
to give him $80.00. Then she starts her requisite tears with a thing about
her family house, and how she is the only one of her family who lives there.
Of course, Matt barges in at this tender moment (ahem). He just wants to
say bye. She argues, but gets sidetracked when Matt mentions Gabby in the
bathroom. Bridget wants to see her, but she's gone.

	Tangie and the Lewises:

Mindy and Vanessa are making a pitiful attempt at expressing their concern
for Tangie. Josh explains that they are trying to say that even though
she and Josh aren't together anymore, the family still loves and cares about
her. And Tangie knows how he feels. She smiles in agreement. Dylan appears
to sign the papers with Roger on the farm. Vanessa pulls Dylan aside and
tells him she has a job for him. He explains he doesn't need work now that
he is selling the farm, but that Matt could use a job. Vanessa says that
would be great.

	Company Kitchen:

Dylan is making a fine looking meal. Matt enters and slacks some of it from
David. Lucy joins the boys, and as Matt and Lucy do their usual business,
David slips away to the basement. Lucy asks Matt where he is going and
Matt says "I know when I get there" (gosh what an independent guy!). Lucy
asks a fairly harmless question and Matt balks "why are you always picking
a fight with me?" (huh?) Bridget wanders in and is working on getting Matt
to see Ed before he leaves, and gives him so fashion advice. He strips off
his shirt (imagine!) and hands it to her. As she walks away, ostensibly to
iron it, she slips the $80.00 in a pocket.

	The basement:

Gabriella is brushing her hair! She has some! And even more amazingly,
she apologizes to David for her rudeness. He says that she could have
stayed upstairs, that everyone is really nice (which I don't get. Didn't
David tell her she couldn't?). He also points out (which should make
everyone happy that someone has thought of this) that it is quite possible
that the hijackers never saw her. As she ducks this observation, David
decides that he should ask Dylan about the key chain (which is Matt's
keepsake from his Vanessa tumble, for those who don't know).

	Alex and Nick:

Alex admits to "malignering". She likes have Nick working at Spaulding.
She dreams of having a partner, one she loves and trusts. Then they
both would have time for a real life. Nick is smiling and laughing
(which is not what Alexandra was expecting; she was saying this with
the utmost trepidation). He admits that he actually enjoyed this tenure
as Spaulding Prez. So Alex decides to "go for the gold". Mindy enters
as she asks Nick if he would ever consider doing it permanently. She
freezes at the sight of Mindy, but Nick assures her there is no reason
to be quiet. The two of them had actually planned to start this conversation
with her, themselves. Alex is flabbergasted. Mindy says "Have we discussed
salary yer?"

Holly and Dylan and a couple of lawyers (Ross and Sid are nowhere!):

Holly needles Dylan's lawyer. She seems happy and is in rare sarcastic form.
Dylan is also beaming. After signing, grinning ear to ear, he says "I should
have fixed a few things before I sold the old place", but oh well. Holly
says Roger would have bought the farm if it had been bombed. She asks Dyan
if he would like to leave a messege for Roger, and Dylan says yes "Thank him
for not being here."

	Josh and Tangie:

Josh becomes Tangie's father again (with all the fathers she has around, she
sure doesn't need her original one). He assumes she will be moving, but Tangie
assures him that isn't going to happen. He asks some none too subtle question
about her current romantic status, and before she answers Cutter appears.
(Is Tangie the only one who calls him Patrick?) He is angry and wants to know
why tangie didn't tell him about the man who kind of stalked her at the paper
the other night.

Ed and Eve (at the only outside location in Springfield):

They are love-bantering as we join them. It seems Ed watched her sleep for
23 minutes. Patient man. They are both thrilled about their new life and
living together. Michelle is trying to help, according to Ed, and slept
elsewhere the night before. They kiss and Eve almost opens her mouth!
Matt and Bridget enter. Ed hardly recognizes him. He says Matt was " A lot
shorter, and kindy scrawny" last time he saw him (when Matt was 8). Matt
rejoins that he remembers Ed as with a "stethoscope and a tie". [He says
this with more venom than anything else I think I've seen him say.] Matt
mentions Maureen and Ed quickly changes the topic. Matt continues to
absolutely outdo himself in the rude jerk department. Bridget tries to
intervene, saying something about a movie that Matt recently worked on.
Matt says "Yeah, and I'm working on a new movie. It's called the story
of my life. I better get back to it." [I wish I could capture his sneer
as he said this.] They shake and Matt leaves. Bridget and Ed exchange
questioning looks.

Eve is annoyed that Ed didn't introduce her correctly. He said she was
Dr. Guthrie and apparently Eve wanted Ed to call her "the love of my
life, who I love far more than that old fool Maureen" Dr. Guthrie.
She fumes, and Ed looks astonished. [Maybe you should try a slightly more
mature woman, Ed.]

	Josh and Holly:

Josh is furious with Holly. How dare she allow some guy to threaten Tangie.
Isn't she in control of her newspaper? Holly says Tangie can handle herself,
that they did call the police, and that really Josh is just looking for
another reason to blame she and Roger for any and everything. Josh leaves
and looks jealously at Cutter and Tangie. Tangie is telling Cutter that the
stalker didn't actually do anything and he is barking up the wrong tree.
Cutter says, maybe, but could she come down and look at mughshots anyway?
Tangie is sure it is a dead end, but eventually agrees. [This is the first
time Cutter has been right and Tangie has been wrong in a while, hasn't it?]

	Alex and Nindy:

There is a great celebration! We see nothing but happy faces and people
agreeing all over the place. Mindy decides she will redecorate Nick's
office to give it that power appeal, and Alex offers to let Nick use
her office until the remodeling is done. Nick doesn't seem to care at all.
Alex just asks one thing: she wants Nick in place as President before Alan
gets out of jail. Then they realize they have to tell Mindy about dinner.
Both are shocked when they realize Mindy is quite happy to do it. Unlike
everyone else, she says, she has always like Alan. [Why is it no one seems
to notice or mind a nice family get together and dinner in jail?] Alex
is touched that Mindy likes her brother. Nick smiles and we see a new age
of peace dawning just before the war begins.

	Eve and Ed:

Ed thinks his introduction tacitly got across who Eve is to Ed. Eve wants
to drop the whole thing, but Ed wants to know what he should have said.
Eve doesn't know exactly what she wanted, and seems to think she's not
making any sense [this can't possibly be an on the rag thing can it? Not
on a soap?]

Vanessa enters, yelling at Bill to not swim out to far. Eve makes an
unbelievably bad joke, and leaves a palpable embarrassment in the air.
Ed tries introducing Eve to "Maureen's best friend" as "The woman I'm
in love with now. And we've decide to live together."

	Bridget and Matt

Bridget yells at Matt for his rudeness. Matt calls Eve a "prom queen"
and is disgusted with Ed (though, he says, it has nothing to do with
her age). Dylan breaks this up and offers Matt the job with Vanessa (
though he doesn't mention that it is Vanessa). Matt says "Why would I want
to work for you?" Dylan looks shocked and furious and leaves. Bridget tells
Matt he can go anytime now. Lucy has heard all of this, and when everyone
else goes, Matt asks Lucy if she has a gun so he can shoot himself [quick!
run upstairs and get that shotgun Lucy!]. Lucy is somewhat sympathetic, and
asks Matt if he ever gets tired of the on the road, loner routine.

David and Dylan in the basement:

Gabriella is gone. David and Dylan are looking for her, and Matt enters.

	Vanessa and Ed and Eve:

Van says "Oh. I see." She doesn't know what to say, but congratulations.
Eve is completely thrilled. Vanessa wonders why people see her as
conservative [it's gotta be the clothes, Vanessa]. Ed should know better
and he doesn't even know the half of it.

	Basement:

Matt apologizes and Dylan says he couldn't care less about Matt but
Bridget cares, so he re-offers the job. Matt decides he can stay an
extra week. Oh Joy.

	Spaulding Mansion:

Alex talks about how hard it is for a man to get a break once he's been in
jail. Mindy will understand, Alex says. Mindy gathers she is talking about
Daddy. Alex asks Mindy to tell Nick about his uncle. Mindy says he
has a "kinder, gentler side" [major irony there, Bush=Alan]. He has a quick
temper, it's true, but he always loved his family. Alex agrees that she
always felt absolutely safe with her older brother around to protect her
[but didn't she recently tell Fletcher some story of the lengths Alan would
go to to win?]. She adores him and Nindy should remember that when she says
things that are less-than adoring about him. Alex is totally thrilled.
Finally, Mindy shows a tiny bit of doubt in her expression. [A face much
like the last scene in the Graduate when they are on the bus, realizing
what they've done, and wondering what comes next.]

	Holly:

Opens a letter that is an invitation for she and Roger from...Alan.

That's all.
