I'm back after 5 days in Chicago at a conference & one week in
Minnesota visiting family. I still haven't seen tapes of all of the
episodes I missed, but enjoyed writing the update this week. I can't
wait for the Fletch/Holly wedding. Karen

   FLETCHER'S HOUSE
Nick and Ben are shooting hoops in the kitchen when Fletch runs in
yelling, "My suit, my suit! Where is my suit?" Ben tells him he's
wearing a tux, but Fletch is talking about his linen suit. Nick had put
it in a closet for safe-keeping. Fletch, "You think that's safe? We
don't even know what's living in there! We have food so old in the
kitchen, it's walking right out the door." He asks for help picking out
a pair of socks. Nick offers a pair of his, but Fletch doesn't like
wearing other people's socks. Nick says he sould have something borrowed.

Fletch tells Ben that he's in charge of music for the wedding. He wants
classical music for the ceremony, he doesn't want Holly walking down the
aisle with Hootie & the Blowfish. The reception should have 50% big
band/swing & 50% doowap (sp?) & 50% Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett &
50%... Nick laughs & Fletch tells him to put out the newspaper.

Ben gives Fletch his last breakfast as a free man. Nick, "hot dogs,
soda, generic pastry toaster." Ben, "After this it's Holly's
cooking." Nick groans and Fletch tells them to stop making fun of
Holly. "She'll learn how to cook, or I'll train her to go for donuts."
Nick, "Right, you'll train her. That doesn't seem like the Holly Lindsey
I've come to know. She may not be great at scrambling eggs, but I'll bet
2 tickets to the Sox game that that old robe of yours gets donated to the
Salvation Army by tomorrow." Fletch says no way & tries to answer the
phone, but Nick & Ben stop him. Nick answers, "County zoo." It's Holly,
she needs to talk to Fletch. Nick, "It's Redbird, I mean Red bride."
Holly wants to know how Fletch is. He's nervous (he can't find a pair of
socks) & she tells him she's a nervous wreck (she burns her hand & can't
get the creases out of her dress). They decide that he can go sockless
and she can go wrinkled. Holly asks if he thinks Roger really took the
bait & went to San Francisco. Fletch doesn't care because no one is
going to ruin their wedding day.

  ROGER'S HOTEL ROOM
Dinah calls out to Roger as she wakes & tells him it was an incredible
night. Alex is standing next to the bed. Alex tells Dinah that she's in
deep trouble, little girl, very deep. Alex opens the drapes & tells her
that if she prevented Roger from going to S.F., Alex is going to prove
that her kidnapping was nothing more than a day at Disneyland. Dinah
doesn't know where Roger is. Room service arrives with breakfast and a
note from Roger, "Hated leaving you alone in bed this morning, but had to
be an early bird & catch an early worm." Alex says that's excellent news.

  FLETCHER'S
Nick tells Ben that it's his responsibility to make sure his father
doesn't go any where until it's time to go to Ed's. Someone knocks.
Fletch (still on the phone with Holly) takes the portable phone out of
the room. It's Tangie, she wonders what's going on. She gets back after
the phony Brent lead and no one is at work-- no Nick, Holly or Fletcher.
Nick says he was working on a breaking story, but he's ready to go in now
& wants to go together. Tangie wants to know where Fletch is & asks
Ben. Nick tells him not to answer, he has a music lesson he's late for.
Tangie wants to make some calls, Fletcher won't mind. Ben tells Nick
that he can handle it. Nick leaves.

  FRANK'S DETECTIVE AGENCY
Blake & Frank are there. She's upset about the agency going out of
business. "For the 1st time in my worklife, I was inspired." Frank
tells her to apply at another agency, but she doesn't think anyone else
would take a chance on her. Eleni arrives & tells Frank that they're
going to settle things once & for all. Blake leaves. Eleni wants to
know why he couldn't tell her what he was thinking about. He couldn't
admit to himself or her that he was a failure. He tried to tell her, but
couldn't. He asks for her forgiveness. He tells her he wants to go back
to school-- the police academy.

  DINER
Lucy comes in, Gilly wants to talk to her. Buzz gets excited that the
press won't leave Lucy alone. Nadine prevents him from talking to Gilly
and says Lucy can make her own decision. Gilly tells Lucy that she wants
to asks her to do a live program on women & violence. She wouldn't be
the only woman there, but they want to talk to her about date rape. They
couldn't mention names, but they want to see how she's coping &
understand how she's feeling. Buzz asks if Gilly is out of her mind.
Gilly says it's a serious program (not Geraldo) & a chance for women to
speak to other women who may have been attacked. Buzz tells her to leave
Lucy out of it. Lucy doesn't think she could do it, she wishes she could
but she doesn't have an easy time talking about it. Gilly understands &
suggests she might do it later. Lucy tells Buzz she's a coward. Buzz
says that until Brent is caught (dead or alive) they should be on their
guard.

  FLETCHER'S
Tangie asks Ben what's going on, where is his dad. He grabs some
cufflinks & puts them in a coffee cup & tells her he's not sure. Fletch
walks in & Tangie asks why there is no publisher, editor, or Nick, ace
reporter at the paper. Fletch coughs & says he came down with something
& gave it to Holly. She asks where Nick was running off to.

Fletch, "Where'd he tell you?"
Tangie, "You tell me."
Fletch, "He's trying to track down your friend Roger for an interview to find out what kind of
strategy he used to free Dinah and what's-his-name."
Tangie, "Nick said it was a breaking story."
Fletch, "You must have misunderstood him, what was it you thought was so
urgent you had to come over here?"

Tangie tells him that it's the Brent Lawrence story. She's doing a show on
WSPR about violence & women. She wants to know if it's ok to write a story
for tomorrow's paper. Fletch asks her to go to Ed Bauer's at 7:30.
Tangie says she's busy, what's so important? Fletch says she'll find out.

  HOLLY'S
Holly reads an article about the bridal countdown day of the wedding:
the bride doesn't have a moment to herself, but is surrounded by family,
friends, bridesmaids, hairdressers, well-wishers, no time to contemplate
the importance of the step she is about to take. She sighs and asks
herself, "Do you, Holly, take this man to be your lawfully wedded
husband?" Doorbell rings. She doesn't know if she should answer, so she
peeks out, then opens the door. It's Ed. She pulls him in & tells him she's
glad he came. He asks if she's having second thoughts. She says she
loves him, but she's been thinking about her past. She's been through
this before. She has proved that she's terrible at marriage. Is she
crazy for trying it again? Ed tells her that some very lucky people find
love once & forever, but most people have to make mistakes & get hurt,
pick themselves up and try again. Holly tells him that he didn't make
mistakes. He loved two wonderful women & they were taken away from him.
Ed, "I make thousands of mistakes and there were three wonderful women
and you were one of them. Don't you forget that." Holly asks why she's
so nervous. Ed says it's because she thinks a decision like this comes
with a guarantee & it doesn't. No matter how scared you are, you have to
close your eyes & leap. Holly asks if he believes that even after all
he's been through. Ed, "Well, my Mommy told me that when I was a little
kid. My Mommy never lied." Holly hugs him.

  FLETCHER'S
Fletch, "I'm grounded in my own house? Whose idea was it eloping to Las
Vegas?" Ben, "San Francisco-- at least that's what Roger is supposed to
belive. The wedding is here at sundown." Fletch tells Ben to organize
the music, he'll do the dishes. He dumps out a coffe cup into the
garbage disposal. Ben tries to stop him, he ground up his only pair of
cufflinks. Fletch asks why they were in a cup. Ben was trying to hide
them from Tangie. Fletch says no more cloak & dagger, he's marrying
Holly & doesn't care if Roger sees him. He's going to the jewelry store.

  ROGER'S ROOM
Alex is talking to Leo (on the phone) to make sure that Roger was on the
plane. Nick arrives, he's there for an interview. Gilly shows up to ask
Roger for feedback on a show she's doing. Dinah comes out of the
bathroom. Gilly has been trying to find her but no one knew where she
was. She wants to know if Dinah is still doing the show. Dinah will do
it, but the trauma hit her last night and Mr. Thorpe let her stay here
even though he barely knows her. She wants to know when she should be
there for hair & makeup. Gilly tells her the show is at 6:30. It will
be a call-in show & she has to answer questions. Will she be able to
handle it? Dinah isn't sure, one minute she's fine & then she's a mess.
She thinks it would be good for her to open up about it. Gilly offers
her a ride to the station. Dinah hates what she's got on, so she'll go
home first. They leave.

Nick asks Alex if she told Roger about Holly & Fletcher's elopement. She
couldn't care less about Fletcher, but why did they fly to S.F. to get
married? Nick tells her it was because of Roger. He offers to drive her
downtown so she can treat herself.

  FRANK'S AGENCY
Frank explains why he wants to be a policeman, it won't be that
dangerous, he's not a suit & tie kind of guy. He wants to look out for
people. He will enjoy getting up & going to work. He asks if it's ok
with her. She says no.

  JEWELRY STORE
Alex is looking at some black pearls when Fletch comes in and tells the
clerk, "I'm getting married in 2 hours & I pulverized my cufflinks in the
garbage disposal." He notices Alex. Alex tells him to get something
special, doesn't he want everything to be perfect? She asks why he isn't
in S.F. No one mentioned the wedding last night at Ed's although he was
hopping all over inviting certain people to help him clean up today. Did
he think the game playing was necessary? Fletch didn't, but Holly did.
It made her feel alot better knowing that Roger would be far, far away
today. Alex says he used Ben to feed her mis-information that she would
feed Roger. She was angry and wanted to stop the wedding & thought Roger
would feel the same. She's sorry. He accepts her apology and asks her
to come, but only if she can be happy for them. He tells her the wedding
is at Ed's, 7:30, "We're going to celebrate hope for the future, mine &
Holly's-- & yours." He kisses her on the cheek & leaves.

  HOLLY'S
Ed has to go back to the house to see if everything is on schedule. He
offers to send Bridget over to keep watch, but Holly says she'll manage.
She's looking at her veil when Blake arrives & asks if she needs help
with the dress. Holly is surprised to see her. Blake thought they
should get dressed together. They have to talk about Holly's hair, "It's
going to be a bigger job than I thought getting you down the aisle."

  WSPR
Dinah calls Ross & leaves a message telling him to watch her on live tv
at 6:30. Maybe he & Ed can watch it while they're cleaning up. She'll
get there as soon as she can. Gilly explains the show to Dinah. Tangie
will go first, then Dinah. The purpose of the show is to raise the
consciousness of men and women about what it feels to be a victim of a crime.

  DINER
Buzz tells Lucy she can watch Gilly's special. Tangie explains that
people don't understand. They say how lucky she was, but the experience
doesn't go away just because the crime is over. There are no lucky victims.

  HOLLY'S
Blake is giving Holly a facial & curling her hair. Blake asks if Holly has
thought about the borrowed & blue stuff because she has it covered. Then
she asks how many people will be there. Holly tells her she was so happy
when she proposed to Fletcher and wanted to share it with her, "I
couldn't talk with you, complain to you, shop with you, now that you're
here I know that nothing can go wrong today." Blake, "You proposed to
Fletcher?!"

  FLETCHER'S
Nick yells at Fletch for going out. Fletch tells them that he ran into
Alex at the jewelry store & thinks that Alex has finally seen the big
picture, accepts that Holly & he are getting married. Ben & Nick ask
about Roger, what if she calls him in S.F. & tells him they're getting
married here. He says she won't. Nick, "Did you go brain dead?"
Fletch, "I probably have, but I don't think she'll do that. Right now,
Roger's in S.F. yelling Holly's name off the Golden Gate bridge. This is
about two people in love, who want to get married, it's not about Roger."

  WSPR
Tangie says that the man was a time bomb & she shouldn't have talked back
to him. Brent calls the show, "She's talking crap. Men don't walk around
carrying rage against all women. That whole theory is just another
lie, obviously started by a bunch of over-reactive, paranoid, feminist
losers. They're screwing up how men & women naturally relate." Lucy
recognizes his voice.
