get a chance to watch till Thursday night.

Guiding Light Update, RealWednesday, June 26, 1996

The role of J Chamberlain is now being played by Ethan Erickson.

Boardinghouse
J and Nola discuss Quint's return. J's got no respect or use for "his old
man". Nola doesn't like J calling his father "the old man". It's
disrespectful. J, with an attitude, suggests calling him the absent-minded
professor - as in absent from us, present to all those cute little grad
students. J doesn't want to see his dad, but it's too late - in walks
Quint. "Hello, son".

Thorpe Penthouse
Marcus wants to know if Dinah is OK - What's Roger done now? Dinah tells
Marcus "It's not what Roger's done, it's what I've done - to you, to
myself, to everyone I care about. I've been living a lie, and it's almost
killed me."

Marler Carriage House (they showed an exterior view - what a lovely house!)
Blake wants to go see her dad in jail. Ross tries to talk her out of it,
saying it's not good for the boys. Blake argues that if it were Dinah,
Ross would be there. Ross gives in - "I'll drive you."

Jail
A disoriented Roger sees jailer Hart with a gun. Hart silently holds the
gun towards Roger, through the bars. Roger wants to know if that the gun
he used to... Roger rambles on about not wanting to shoot Hart in the first
place - he'd take it back if he could - there's so much he wants to tell
Hart. He begs Hart's forgiveness. Frank wanders in, puzzled because the
lights are off. He turns them on, and as the light reappears, Hart hides
around the corner. Frank looks at Roger like Roger must have turned the
off, but how?

Opening Credits

Jail, continued
Roger is glad to see Frank. Roger insists that Hart is there, but Hart has
disappeared. Roger keeps insisting. "Yeah, sure, and is he standing next
to a tall white rabbit that goes by the name of Harvey?", Frank asks
snidely. Frank has no time for games. Roger, sounding crazier and
crazier, tells Frank that he must be in on the plot to make Roger think
he's crazy, to get him to confess to to crime he didn't commit. Frank asks
what it is that Roger did. Roger laughs, and says it isn't going to work.
Roger's on to them, and he's innocent. Frank says no one has to drive
Roger crazy - he's half way there on his own. Hart has been observing.

Marcus is trying to get Dinah to tell him what's going on. Dinah tries to
send him away, telling him to go see that girl that he likes. Marcus
persists. Dinah wants to tell, but it's hard. Marcus takes Dinah's hands,
and Dinah confesses that she has missed Marcus. She promises to tell him
everything soon, but not now. They are friends again.

This scene was interrupted by a severe weather alert. It took about 2
minutes. Perhaps someone else could fill in any missing details.

We resume with Marcus noticing that there's something different about
Dinah. She says she's finally beginning to know what love is. Marcus
recites Dinah's old conquests, but agrees that this must be different.

Boardinghouse
Nola tries to leave so J and Quint can talk. J won't let her go. Quint
wants to talk. "Look, Dad, I stayed in school, didn't trash the car,
didn't knock anyone up, and I didn't go to jail. Isn't that enough for
you?", J asks. Quint didn't come for a report card, he just wants to make
things right with J. Quint explains that he'll be around for a while on a
dig. J, Nola insists that J talk to Quint - show him some respect. J,
with attitude, finally agrees. "So Dad, tell me about you and the
Indians". Quint scolds J - he knows better - call them Native Americans.
"Sorry, I forgot. We've got to be politically correct", and then looking
at Nola, "Give them respect, too." Quint proceeds to explain his did, and
J doesn't think much of it. "You used to admire my work," Quint comments.
"No, I used to admire YOU.", J replies. Quint hoped J would work with him,
the way they used to. J can't believe it. Nola and Quint try to get J to
remember the good times. J reminds Quint that he also discovered grad
student "Jessica The Great". J doesn't care what Quint does, as long as he
leaves J and Nola alone. J storms out. Quint and Nola look discouraged,
and try to console each other with "at least we tried." Quint promises to
try to do what J wants, and leave them alone. Quint leaves, dejected.
Nola looks after him like she wants to stop him, but doesn't. Nola turns
to find J observing. "Whose side are you on?", he asks.

Griffin, in class
As Griffin finishes up his lecture, he startles a student awake. He tell
his class that he doesn't know all the answers, but together they'll keep
trying to find them. After one more question, he dismisses the class. A
student, Mary Tess, asks for some time. She's flattered that he remembers
her name. Griffin remembers that her last paper wasn't very good - he
wrote her a note - does she need clarification? As she comes on to Griffin
via body language, Mary Tess asks how she can improve her grade - she's
been trying so hard. Griffin tells her to do her work - she's missed
classes, missed assignments, and doesn't participate when she is there.
She's sure she could do better if she could spend some time alone with him.
This is the most important thing in her life. She keeps coming on to
Griffin, and he keeps rebuffing her. Gilly walks in, observes for a
moment, and then pretends to be Griffin's 4th wife, with 6 kids waiting for
him in the car. Mary Tess beats a hasty exit, and Griffin and Gilly have a
good laugh.

Jail
Roger wants his lawyer. Frank informs him that Leo has left, but will be
back. Roger goes on about the vendetta against him by Officer Cleary.
Frank says either Roger is confused, or Frank is. Roger insists he sees
things very clearly. Frank asks for help understanding - is this a plot by
Officer Cleary, or your son Hart? Maybe they're working together, with the
cooperation of the Springfield police? Or maybe there's a scam to get
Roger to confess? Roger sits back and asks again to see his lawyer. His
rights are being abrogated. Frank doesn't think that's quite right, and
proceeds to give Roger a definition of abrogate. Roger loses it, and
screams that he won't listen to a vocabulary lesson from a stupid foot
patrolman. Frank gets defensive - he's taking the detectives test soon.
Frank tells Roger that it looks like Roger has lost his mind. Roger yells
more about the plot against him as Blake and Ross arrive. "What have you
done to my brother?", Blake asks. "I'd love an answer to that question",
says Frank.

Thorpe Penthouse
Dinah shoos Marcus out. Marcus protests that she hasn't told him anything
yet. Marcus makes Dinah promise that she'll call if she needs him. He
doesn't want to go, but finally does. Dinah returns to the living room,
and Hart appears from the balcony. Dinah is happy to see him. They kiss.

Jail
Roger tells Blake that everything's OK. He yells at Ross for bringing
Blake to the jail. Frank and Ross leave, giving Blake and Roger some time
alone. Roger tells Blake he'll be out soon, and that everything will be
OK. Blake interrupts, "You have to tell me what's going on".

Another 2 minute storm alert.

We return to Blake pleading with Roger. She tells him she doesn't hate
him, she's disappointed in him. Roger wants to know if she thinks he's
crazy. Blake tells him he's been through a lot in his life, and maybe he's
done some things he wouldn't normally do. If he's done something horrible,
they can help, but he's got to be honest. She wants to know where Hart is.
"Tell me what you did to Hart." Roger breaks down, starts to cry, and
kisses her hand. "I didn't mean it. I didn't mean it. He made me do it."

Boardinghouse
J and Nola continue to argue about Quint. Quint is here, and J must be
civil. "Don't use me as the reason not to talk to your father, Anthony
James Chamberlain", Nola tells J. J mutters, "She rolls out the 3 names,
shows me she means business." Nola won't tolerate J's blatant disrespect
for his parents. What about Quint's disrespect for Nola? That's Nola's
problem, and she's taking care of it via divorce. Nola reminds J that it
really stinks growing up without a dad, like she did. The teakettle starts
to whistle, and Nola changes the subject, asking J about getting a job at a
fast food place. J thinks Nola is trying to get him to take his dad's job
offer. "Is it working?", Nola asks. J walks out.

Griffin's classroom
Griffin and Gilly review the scam they pulled on Griffin's student.
Griffin feels sorry for Mary Tess, that she'd sleep with him for a grade.
Gilly notes that she probably wouldn't mind, and that she's beautiful.
Griffin says beauty comes from the heart, like Gilly's. Gilly looks
pleased. After the commercial break, the mood is broken, and they get back
to business. Marcus arrives, and Gilly leaves. Marcus came to apologize
for the things he said about Griffin and Vivian. He was out of line.
Griffin tells Marcus that he doesn't need to apologize, he was right.
Marcus set him straight. He's broken off with Vivian. Now that that's out
of the way, could Griff give Marcus a job?

Thorpe Penthouse
Hart and Dinah are in bed, making small talk after making love. Dinah
wants to stay with Hart, but she can't She has to go to Laurel Falls for
the dig, and the "next Roger Rocky Horror Show". But, we have time...she
kisses Hart.

Jail
Blake asks again if Roger hurt Hart. Roger denies all. Leo arrives, and
tells Roger the bail has been set, but it wasn't easy, since this is the
second time this month he's been in jail. Roger yells at Leo about getting
him out of jail, and Blake retreats. Roger wants to make sure the dig at
Laurel Falls is stopped. Leo thinks Roger needs to forget about Hart and
this homicidal, paranoid craziness. Frank arrives to release Roger. Blake
pleads with Roger to finish what he was saying. "Tell, Daddy, tell."
Roger is remembering the shooting. He turns to look at Blake.

Griffin's classroom
Griffin can't believe that Marcus wants to work for him. He discovers
Marcus' ulterior motive - being close to Dahlia.

Thorpe Penthouse
Hart and Dinah roll over onto Hart's handcuffs. Before they can use them,
they realize that Dinah has to go.

Laurel Falls, Dig Site
Quint is surveying the area, getting ready to start the dig. J shows up,
and they negotiate a job and salary. Roger arrives and knocks Quint over,
saying "You're not going to touch one inch of this place". J looks on in
amazement.

Griffin's classroom
Griffin is reluctant, but agrees to give Marcus the job. Griffin reminds
Marcus how important the cause is. Griffin cautions Marcus not to get her
hopes up about Dahlia.

Marler Carriage House
Ross gives Blake a glass of water. She's really torn up about what Roger
might have done to Hart.

Laurel Falls, Dig Site
Roger is attacking Quint, and J comes to Quint's defense. Frank and Dinah
arrive to break up the fight. Roger desperately keeps yelling that they
can't dig, they have no right to dig. He wants Frank to make them stop. J
is about to dig the first shovelfull from Hart's "grave", when Roger shouts
"All Right, Stop! I did it." Freeze on Roger's tortured face.
