GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 1996

                        GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

Highlights:
* Lucy tells Alan that 5th St. isn't his own personal MONOPOLY board.
* Dinah keeps Roger guessing by acting PERQUACKY.
* Bridget warns Hart that Roger is TROUBLE and he shouldn't take RISKs.
* Phillip & Rick look for CLUEs.
* Nola has a MYSTERY DATE.

DINER: Lucy & AM arrive at the diner, causing Buzz to jump with joy &
hug his daughter with abandon. Then he tries to hug AM, but AM is too
sore to be manhandled that way. Buzz returns his attentions to Lucy.
Reva enters & is thrilled to see the young Spauldings too. Alan walks in
& Buzz immediately jumps all over him. AM intervenes & says he asked
Alan to come. Buzz looks at AM suspiciously.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Hart startles Bridget while she is chopping celery. She's
glad to see that he's OK & tells him she's been looking all over for
him. "Your father is totally whacked out," she informs him. Hart says he
knows, but she blew it big-time.

PENTHOUSE: Rog paces, cursing Hart. The doorbell rings & he lets in
Limping Leo. Rog wants Leo's input on how to "eliminate" Hart.

LAUREL FALLS: Dinah walks through the darkened woods, carrying a large
white satchel. She places it on the ground & brings her arms together
out in front of herself, as if aiming a gun.

PENTHOUSE: Rog says Hart is on to him & has been toying with him. Hart
knows everything. Leo is concerned & says I-told-you-so. He says the
only thing to do is to give Hart whatever he wants. Rog says the problem
is that he doesn't know what Hart wants, but they have to be prepared
for anything. Leo advises Rog to leave the country & collect his bucks
in the Caymans. Rog isn't interested. Leo is worried that Rog is going
to kill someone & refuses to get involved. He heads for the door.

Rog says he just has to get Dinah out of the way for a few weeks,
someplace safe, until the drug is out of her system. Once she's clean,
no one can pin anything on him. Leo agrees, but then suggests that Dinah
might be in on it too. "That thought has occurred to me," replies Rog.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Hart berates Jet for shooting her mouth off to Rog, but
she says he's wrong. She was trying to protect him & wasn't trying to
hurt Dinah. Rog shoved her against a wall, shaking her & yelling at her,
demanding to know where Hart was. Hart thinks Jet must have told Rog
something. She says she didn't. Hart softens. "Did he hurt you?" "No,
but I'm scared," answers Jet, close to tears. There's no telling what
Rog is capable of, & Jet thinks Hart should get out of whatever Dinah's
involved him in. Hart says he got into it himself & Dinah had nothing to
do with it. Dinah doesn't care about him. Jet says that's not true
anymore. "Dinah cares about you a lot."

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Phillip enters the darkened president's office &
sits behind AM's desk, mulling over the 5 long years he's been away. He
turns on the desk lamp.

DINER: Buzz can't understand how Alan has managed to hoodwink AM this
time. Alan says he told AM the truth. Buzz finds this laughable &
theorizes on what constitutes Alan's version of the truth--it was all a
big misunderstanding, maybe? When Alan tries to interrupt, Buzz rants
about having the floor in his own diner. Lucy silently entreats AM to
say something. AM wants to hear Buzz's side of the story.

Buzz explains that Alan is Advantage Systems & always has been. He
recounts how he & Reva tracked down the front-man in Florida, got into a
car chase & wrapped themselves around a tree, only to have Alan reveal
himself to save Reva, who was ungrateful because she didn't fall into
Alan's arms. This made Alan even madder, so he offered to buy the diner,
knowing Buzz would refuse. So Alan bought the mortgage from the bank &
plans to foreclose if he doesn't get $250,000, which Buzz doesn't happen
to have handy. The lives of everyone in the neighborhood are being
ruined because Alan wants Reva. Reva nods her agreement. Buzz dares Alan
to admit that this is the truth. "He already has, Buzz," says AM.

COMPANY: Nola waits on tables, then spritzes herself with perfume back
behind the bar. Gilly, sitting at the bar, surmises that Nola has a
date. Nola asks about her outfit--she doesn't want to look like she's
trying too hard. She's wearing a pretty blue dress & looking quite
lovely, actually. Gilly reassures her of this & is a bit envious, since
there are no dates in the offing for her. She asks if Nola has known the
guy long. Nola admits that she's never laid eyes on the guy--she put an
ad in the personals. Gilly thinks Nola looks just right.

A tall guy in a dark suit walks in & Nola knows its him because "he's
wearing a lapel in his flower." Gilly thinks he's handsome. "Go get him,
girlfriend," she encourages.

BOARDINGHOUSE KITCHEN: Hart doesn't believe that Dinah cares about him.
Jet says she heard it from Dinah herself. Dinah seemed much more worried
about Hart's safety than about the plan. Jet wants to know what the plan
is, & adds, "You told me you weren't going to get involved with her
again." But it seems like Hart is willing to risk his life & leave his
son fatherless. "This isn't about Roger. This is about you & Dinah. And
I think you care about her as much as she seems to care about you."

PENTHOUSE: Rog figures if Hart & Dinah are in it together, it explains a
lot of things. But Dinah was already showing symptoms & was way too far
gone to have been in on it with Hart. Rog guesses that maybe Dinah was
in on it & was just faking the drug's symptoms. Leo thinks this is
possible. Dinah enters & shyly says hi. Rog greets her with a big smile.

Dinah fakes another spell, talking about the beautiful night, the stars,
the colors. Rog asks how she's feeling. "Happy," she responds. She goes
off on a tangent about her mother, then hugs a cushion & curls up on the
couch, saying how good it is to be home. Leo & Rog exchange glances.
Dinah says they should go on talking--she finds it reassuring to listen
to them talk business. She speaks in a child-like manner, saying that
Rog never talks business with her anymore; you would never even guess
that she's co-owner of WSPR. Leo says he's tired, so he's going home to
take some vitamin C. Dinah notes that it's hard to decide between the
chewables & the other kind. Leo whispers to Rog that Dinah is most
definitely borderline insane. Rog says he wants to be alone with Dinah
since they've been apart for so long. Leo heads for the door. "No, don't
leave!" says Dinah, sounding more like herself.

COMPANY: Nola rehearses her introduction to Travis, with coaching from
Gilly. She walks toward the man, who is suddenly greeted by another
woman, who hugs him & calls him Corey. Nola turns away dejectedly. Nola
thinks she made a fool of herself, but Gilly says she's making too much
of it. Nola decides that Travis isn't showing up & that she's a loser
for resorting to the personals. Gilly has no better ideas for meeting
men. Nola thinks if a man is alone at their age, he must be defective.
Gilly asks if that means she & Nola are defective too.

A pleasant-looking dark-haired guy in a light sports jacket sidles up to
the bar & asks for a beer. He smiles when he sees Nola, realizing that
he hasn't been stood up after all. He recognizes the "red-head with a
big heart & passion for adventure." He offers to buy her a drink, but
she says the beers are on her, & she's going to go off duty now. She
fumbles with the caps on a couple of beers & then Travis toasts, "To a
beautiful woman." Nola smiles.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Phillip looks around a bit, and then Rick enters,
checking to make sure Phil's alone. Rick wonders how Phil got past the
night watchman; Phil notes that he's still a Spaulding. Some comparisons
are made between Cain, Abel & Seth, causing Rick to wonder if Phil has
eliminated AM as a suspect. It's a possibility, but Phil's not making
any commitments yet. Rick makes it very clear that while he agreed to
help Phil find out who set him up, he refuses to do anything illegal.
Phil says it's all legit & he now works for Spaulding again. Rick knows
he's lying. Rick's right.

Phil is frustrated; he's been sitting around watching his family,
waiting for one of them to give him/herself away. Rick thinks the odds
on that are pretty slim. Phil says they have to find another way to
approach the problem. Rick wants to stay on the sidelines. Phil says
Rick was hurt just as much as he was, so he ought to have just as much
of an interest in finding the villain. "OK," says Rick. "Fill me in."

DINER: Buzz sarcastically applauds Alan for telling the truth when he
was about to be caught in his lies. Alan says he's finished lying to AM.
Buzz says it doesn't change the fact that what Alan did was wrong. AM
says Alan did it because he was angry & hurt over Reva. He hopes they
can make some sort of compromise. Buzz is not interested. AM says Buzz
could use the money offered by Alan to buy another diner, rebuild Frank
& Eleni's house & send Marina to college. Lucy is stunned that AM would
suggest that Buzz take Alan's offer just to make peace.

Lucy can't believe that AM would make such a suggestion. Alan says it
will benefit everyone. Reva pipes up that this is a crock, because the
plans don't include any of the promised community benefits. Alan
announces to AM & Lucy that Reva rifled through his office while they
were waiting out the storm. He claims the plans she found were old.

Alan insists that his plans will benefit all of Springfield & implies
that Buzz is being selfish by trying to hold onto his "small diner."
Lucy takes offense. The diner was built by her grandfather, just like
Spaulding was built by AM's grandfather. "You wouldn't be so nonchalant
if we were talking about taking that away." Alan tells her it's hardly
the same thing, but she says it's exactly the same thing. The crowd
cheers her on as she rhapsodizes about the community benefits provided
by the diner--a haven for everyone in the neighborhood. It looks like
she might be getting to AM, but Alan looks hard as stone. She goes for
the big close: "Do you have any concept of what I'm saying here? Maybe
my family & I aren't the sharp businesspeople that you & your family
are, but this diner, as far as we're concerned, stands for a lot more
than your company. A heck of a lot more!" The crowd applauds.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Phil says he wants to try to flush out the
villain. Rick doesn't want to be Phil's bird-dog. Phil should think of
him as a submarine. Phil goes over what he has so far: Alex gets very
defensive whenever Phil brings up the subject; Amanda has information
that she shouldn't have any way of knowing. Alan was in prison, which
means nothing. Did Rick know Alan hired a rapist to try to get Spaulding
back from AM? "Charming," comments Rick. But he's being very repentant
now. Both guys take the mea-culpa act with a large dose of salt.

What about AM? asks Rick. Phil just knows that AM didn't get his butt in
the president's chair without being a chip off the old block. "I know; I
was here; this was mine. I know what it means to want it more than
anything in the world." Rick remembers. Phil feels displaced by the
closeness he sees between Alan & AM. Rick suggests that AM probably felt
the same way once. "Maybe he wanted to right a wrong, the same way you
do." Rick repeats that he doesn't want his life turned upside down by
Phil's quest for justice. Rick knows it's not just about righting a
wrong--Phil wants Spaulding back. Phil says he just wants the truth.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Hart asks if he can see Peter before he leaves. Jet says
yes, but she still wants an answer about Hart & Dinah. Hart insists that
nothing is going on; he's just gotten to know Dinah better & she's
different than everyone thinks. Different how? wonders Jet. Hart says
she's not an airhead. Jet never thought so & has always suspected that
Dinah knew exactly what she was doing. Hart maintains that he & Dinah
aren't having an affair. Jet goes upstairs to get Peter. Hart sighs &
checks his watch.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah reverts to her loony-tunes act. She looks at her bare
wrist & exclaims about the time. Then she picks up Leo's briefcase to
hand to him, but becomes overcome by the softness of the leather. She
loves leather. "It's like a magic box full of multicolored dreams." She
asks Leo where he got it. "I-ta-ly," he tells her carefully. She
responds in Italian & continues to caress the briefcase. Rog takes it
from her gently & sees Leo to the door.

Rog returns & looks at Dinah with interest. She asks innocently if
anything's wrong. He says he's just happy to have time alone with her.
He sits beside her on the couch & starts kissing her. She allows this,
but stares out at the air afterwards, as if distracted. Rog says he has
to talk to her about something "unsettling." He kisses her again & says
he had his suspicions. The good news is, he's not crazy. The bad news
is, Hart's been trying to drive him crazy. Dinah's not surprised. Why
wouldn't he? "Hart hates you," she says in her happy, child-like voice.
Rog tells her not to patronize him. He wants to believe that she's loyal
to him. Dinah says she's loyal like a little puppy dog. Rog wants to
talk about Laura's scarf. Dinah looks worried.

COMPANY: Nola & Travis are seated at a table with their beers. He's
enjoying her funny stories about herself. Nola would like to hear more
about Travis. He says he's not that funny. She asks about his family,
his background. He says it's where he is right now that counts. Or where
he'll be later (wink, wink). Nola asks what he means. "Why don't we blow
this joint & I'll show you my family tree," he replies meaningfully.

Nola excuses herself & says she'll be right back. She whispers something
to Gilly, then returns & says she's ready to go. Gilly starts arguing
with Nola, saying she can't do this. "The doctor at the clinic told you
needed to wait 6 more months before you saw men." Nola coughs & says the
doctor is a worrywort. Travis changes his mind & says he has to go. Nola
tries to convince him to stay, coughing all the while & Travis beats
feet. Nola & Gilly share a good giggle.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah lays the back of her head against Rog's shoulder. His
arm is draped across her chest as he tells her that he is sure it's been
Hart gaslighting him, but he keeps thinking about the scarf incident.
Hart couldn't have known anything about that. "If you say so," responds
Dinah. Rog asks if she remembers how it felt around her neck. His hand
moves to her neck as he asks. Dinah goes loony-voiced again & says she
certainly does remember. Roger was so mad about it. Rog says it was
Laura's scarf. Dinah says she bought it in Europe. He asks what she did
with it. She thinks, then says maybe she put it away somewhere, or maybe
she threw it out the window. "I'm so confused, Roger."

The phone rings & Rog answers. Hart tells him the wait is almost over.
He wants Rog to meet him at Laurel Falls, where Hart will tell him what
he wants & what will happen if Rog doesn't deliver. Hart suggests right
now. Rog gets up to go. Dinah begs him not to go, because she knows that
Hart really wants to hurt him. The day that Rog found her & Hart in the
motel together, Hart was making all kinds of threats, which is why Dinah
wanted Rog to leave when he showed up. Rog says he has to go. Dinah
suggests that Rog take his gun for protection. She begs. Rog says he can
handle himself & goes. "Damn," says Dinah. I guess she's upset because
she couldn't get him to take the gun.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Jet comes downstairs with Petey, who runs to his dad.
Hart scoops up the boy as Jet says she is worried about his plan. She
thinks it sounds dangerous & doesn't want anything to happen to him. He
assures her that nothing will happen. He gives Petey a kiss. Petey says
good-bye & Hart leaves as Jet & Petey blow kisses to him.

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Phil & Rick are looking through papers in AM's
office, but aren't coming up with anything. Phil is looking for a key to
open a file drawer. He finds that AM hides it in the same place (a book)
that Phil used to hide it. Inside, he finds an interesting file. Rick
looks over his shoulder & whistles. Phil turns the pages.

DINER: Lucy says they don't have to give up what they've worked for. AM
tries to talk to her, but she says he can't side with his father.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah paces worriedly, trying to figure out what to do. She
goes to the cabinet & removes Roger's gun, looking like she has a plan.

LAUREL FALLS: Rog calls out to Hart. "I'm through with the games!" Hart
appears. "No more games, Dad," he promises. Freeze frame on his face as
the screen fades to black.
