Today I was incapable of restraining myself from making some
editorial comments, so just try to take them with a grain of salt
and enjoy. :)

KIDNAP HIDEOUT
==============

The camera pans across the room to the panel covering the coal
bin (?) where Matt and Dinah are trapped. Inside, Dinah's face
is inches from Matt's as she again asks him why he came to
rescue her, if he hates her so much. A long moment passes
while they stare into each other's eyes, then Matt quickly turns
away and tries again to open the door. Dinah says it doesn't
matter anyway; Viktor will kill them. She thanks Matt for his
efforts. He tells her they're not going to die. He pushes her out
of the way and tries to kick the door open, but only succeeds in
raising a cloud of dust. They cough.

JOURNAL
=======

Nick, Fletch, and Blake look on as Vanessa tries to absorb the
idea that the kidnappers have Matt. Cutter asks her when was
the last time she saw him. She tells Cutter about her desire to
make the dropoff herself; she figures Matt was trying to
protect her. Cutter isn't so sure.

Ross and Blake arrive and receive an update. Ross wonders
how Matt got involved. Blake blurts out that if this is true,
"maybe we were wrong, maybe Dinah really was kidnapped."
Oops!!! Blake realizes her error and tries to cover, but it's too
late. Ross and Van glare daggers at her.

DOCKS
=====

Replay of Friday's cliffhanger: Brent and AM tussle, the gun
goes off. AM staggers backward, looking stunned. Lucy gasps
his name. Brent begins to laugh.

Roll lighthouse...

Lucy looks in shock from one man to the other. Brent's laughter
turns to gurgling as he touches the blood on his stomach. He
slumps to the ground.

Lucy and AM hug frantically and tell each other they're OK. He
tries to keep her from looking at Brent. "Just tell me, is he
dead?" AM walks cautiously over to Brent and feels for a pulse.
Lucy demands again to know if he's dead.

HOTEL
=====

Eleni looks into a room and says it's perfect. The manager asks
if she needs anything else. She asks him to get something that
she hung in the closet in his office. He leaves. Eleni rubs her
hands together, smiling, then calls after the manager to wait,
but he's gone. Frank enters with some boxes and she thanks
him for helping with this catering job. He tells her the clients
are lucky she agreed to it on such short notice. She offers him
a drink and "just happens" to have his favorite brand of beer.
She urges him to look at the beautiful stars. Frank says it must
be nice to afford a place like this, but he can't wait to be back
in their own home. Eleni assures him it'll happen. More lovey-
dovey talk. He tells her if he doesn't leave now he won't be
able to.............but then decides he should help Buzz with the
kicthen cabinets on their new house.

Eleni tells him not to push himself, he tells her ditto. More
lovey talk (sorry, my stomach can't handle much more
specific). They hug, and over Frank's shoulder Eleni waves the
manager away. He hides while she gets rid of Frank, then asks
her where she wants the garment. "Tonight is a very special
night for my clients, I don't want any interruptions," Eleni tells
herself.

JOURNAL
=======

Ross and Van chew out Blake, and Cutter asks what she knows.
She admits that she and Matt suspected the kidnapping was
fake. Van assumes it was Matt's idea, but Blake says it was
hers. Van demands to know whether she thinks the newest note is also
fake? Blake says she doesn't think Matt was involved, but she's sick
of keeping quiet about evidence just to protect feelings. Ross
asks what evidence? Blake insists that Dinah is a money-
grubber and claims that she, Blake, knows Dinah better than
anyone in town, because when Dinah was living with her and
Ross, Blake watched her like a hawk, learned her habits and
idiosyncracies. She admits searching Dinah's room, which
upsets Cutter. Blake tells about the missing boom box and tapes
and hairdryer. Ross and Van are naturally suspicious, but
Cutter's interest is piqued. He leaves and Ross tells Blake she
shouldn't say these things in front of Cutter. Van stops them,
tells them they're acting like children. "What are we going to do
to help them?" She seems calmer than she has in weeks.

HIDEOUT
=======

Dinah hangs on Matt, caressing his manly shoulders [be still my
libido!!!!!] as he continues trying to free them. "Never thought
I'd be glad to be locked up with some macho brute." Dinah
complains about the heat (like a sauna) and fantasizes about
cold iced tea. Matt insists they have to escape before Viktor
returns. Dinah assures him she can handle Viktor; he's not as
mean as he seems. Matt tells her she was just worrying about
getting killed; why the turnaround? She has confidence in her
charms. Viktor just likes playing the bad guy. Matt points out
that Vik is a professional killer. She tells him she can convince
Viktor to let Matt go. What about her? She tells him not to
worry about her. He's only trying to protect Van's feelings.
Dinah gets annoyed and tells him she never asked for a
rescuer. Matt admits maybe it was a mistake coming here, but
now it's too late.

I can't remember if I've already made fun of this commercial...
does anyone really bring their own salad dressing to a
restaurant?

DOCKS
=====

Lucy starts to have a panic attack as AM calls Brent's name,
unsure whether he's dead. He tells Lucy they have to call the
police, and hurries her away. Brent doesn't move.

HOTEL
=====

Frank asks if the clients will appreciate all Eleni's hard work.
She says yes, "On Crete we take our omens very seriously."
Frank is surprised; the clients are Greek? No... "but the wife sees
this evening is a very special new beginning. Everything has to
be perfect." Frank starts setting up candles and asks how many
people there will be. Eleni says two, they're hopelessly in love.She
claims she made them fill out a questionnaire ;) She starts
getting cuddly. Frank mutters about Buzz and cabinets and
tries to leave, but Eleni stalls him, making him move a trunk.
He asks how the clients can afford all this. She stuffs his mouth
with a newly-created delicacy and he loves it. Frank thinks he's
figured out the clients (rich people who like slumming), but
he's wrong :) He asks when they're showing up, and asks her to
dance. He turns on the stereo and is amazed when their
favorite song comes on. Eleni grins coyly and they dance.

"You're more beautiful than the day I married you," says Frank.
"Which time?" Eleni asks. They laugh. "Both times!" Frank
apologizes for not getting her an anniversary present, but he's
working on the house so it's OK. Smoocheroo.

JOURNAL
=======

Cutter talks on the phone, waves a map and asks Blake where
Matt might have gone. She says Matt was interested in the
background noise on the tape. Cutter says the cops checked
every construction site in Springfield. He tells the person on the
phone to start checking the adjoining towns. Then, they'll have
to play it by ear.

Vanessa goes into Holly's office and calls Roger, but he's not
there. Nick barges in and apologizes for interrupting, then
offers Van his sympathy and assistance. She thanks him, but
there's nothing that can be done. Apparently Matt thinks he's
invincible.

Ross thanks Fletch for letting them hang out at the Journal.
Fletch hopes the article he's writing about the kidnapping has a
happy ending. "Me too," says Ross, with another glare at Blake.
She sighs.

Van yells at the phone, "Come on Roger, pick up the damn
phone!" Ross watches.

HIDEOUT
=======

Matt tells Dinah he knows guys like Viktor, and if they don't
escape now Vik will kill them. She tells him to shut up, and
then boasts about her wide travel experience, in the USA and
abroad, and her amazing ability to take care of herself. She bets
Matt hasn't even been out of the midwest. "Unlike you, I've had
to learn how to use my wiles." She tells him he underestimates
her. He points out the only idea she's had recently was about
iced tea. :) She tells him Vik needs her for the money, so if he
won't let them go, she'll refuse to cooperate. Matt rightly thinks
it's a stupid idea. "And if that doesn't work, well, then there's
always this." Dinah pulls out a lipstick. Matt makes a snide
comment, but when Dinah twists the top, what pops up is not
lipstick but a nasty-looking knife.

Halftime...

Matt isn't impressed with the tiny blade and doesn't think
Viktor will be either. Dinah tells him it's not the size of the
blade, it's the element of surprise. Matt wonders if she really
thinks Van will believe Dinah did all this for Peter. She begs
him not to tell Van it was a setup, and insists she really did
want to save Peter, although the money was also a plus :)
Matt wants the knife, but she resists; "It's my only protection!"
He grabs it and tells her she may be right, the knife might be
useful.

JOURNAL
=======

Ross interrupts another phone call to ask Cutter if he thinks
Viktor will contact them this late at night. Patrick has no idea.
He also still doesn't know where they are. Ross tells Blake she
doesn't care about Dinah. She says she cares about him, but
doesn't trust Dinah.

Roger appears, and I don't understand why the music suddenly
turns spooky. ??? Ross demands to know why Rog is here. Van
pulls Roger into Holly's office and he tells her he knows where
they are, but he's surprised to hear of Matt's involvement. Rog
says they have to move fast, and tells Van to try not to let
Ross and Blake get involved.

Ross intercepts Roger as he leaves, and Rog tells him the
conversation had nothing to do with Dinah. Ross asks Vanessa if
this is true. She admits that Rog knows where Dinah is. She
says they have to tell Cutter. Roger says they can't; Ross says
too bad. He calls to Cutter and tells him Rog knows. Roger tells
Cutter they can't do this "your [the police's] way." Cutter
threatens to throw Rog in jail and, with the entire room looking
on, demands that Rog tell or show him where Dinah is. Rog looks at
Van's stoic face and shows Cutter on the map. It's a place the
cops already checked. Cutter tells another cop not to let anyone
leave and takes off. Rog tries to follow, but Ross stops him. "You
heard the man...nobody leaves."

SPAULDING YACHT
===============

AM ushers Lucy in and she continues to freak out as he calls
the cops and tells Levy where Brent is, and that he's been shot.
Levy tells some cops to get an ambulance there. AM tells Levy
about the fight. He's stammering but mostly coherent. Levy
tells AM to leave Lucy at the yacht and meet him at the dock.

AM hangs up and Lucy says the worst is over, "right?" AM
doesn't look so sure. [No doubt realizing he may be a
murderer.]

Why is it whenever I see an ad for Chicago Hope, it's always
the same episode?

AM has an anguished look as he stammers that he must have
pulled the trigger, he might have k-k-killed Brent. Lucy insists
that he didn't mean to, it was an accident etc. He wonders if he
really did want it to happen. Lucy wants to accompany him to
the docks, but he refuses. As he leaves, he tells her to call her
family.

Lucy waffles for a moment, then runs after him.

HOTEL
=====

Candles burn as Frank re-enters, amazed at how good the place
looks. There are flowers, dark lighting, etc. He calls for Eleni but
canice, and he should entertain the clients if they arrive. "Great, I
gotta make chitchat to two rich lovebirds." On cue, there's a
knock at the door. Frank opens, but no one's there. He's puzzled
but as he goes back into the room, someone clears her throat.
Frank gapes.

Pan slowly up from a pair of feet in bright red heels, past some
slinky legs, past a short flared red skirt...Frank grins....up to
Eleni in a tight red dress with plenty of cleavage. "Happy
anniversary, sweetheart." Frank gets the clue, picks her up,
carries her into the room and starts kissing.

HIDEOUT
=======

Matt appears to be using the knife as a screwdriver. He asks
Dinah for her lighter. She only has matches, and warns him not
to use them all; it's her last pack. She starts to light up, but he
stops her and makes her hold up a match to light his efforts.
This necessarily brings them into extreme physical proximity.
Dinah burns her fingers on the match and lights another. Matt
frees another bolt/screw/whatever. He tells her they have to
throw both their weights against the door. They do a quickie
round of Dinah-Only-Loves-The-Money and then Matt tells her
to make up her mind; leave with him or stick with Vik? She's
with him.

Matt makes her get behind him and counts to three. They
tumble out the door, over the couch and onto the floor, landing
in an embrace with him on top. ;) In the midst of their self-
congratulatory hug they notice Viktor grinning at them.

Chocolate can help you lose weight? What will they think of next?

Viktor points his gun at them as Dinah, panting [Matt isn't even
winded], staggers to her feet and tells him the breakout was all
Matt's idea, she's still with him, they can let Matt go and find a
new hideout, etc. etc. until Matt tells her to shut up. Stud that
he is, he pushes her behind him and asks Viktor what he's
going to do.

Viktor smiles happily like a kid in a candy store and answers,
"I'm going to kill you."

JOURNAL
=======

Roger and Ross argue some more. Van admits that she asked
Rog for help, but Ross isn't fazed. He wants to know why Rog
agreed to help when Van asked him; "Why would you risk
anything for my daughter?" Roger looks at Blake standing
behind Ross and says it's just because he, too, is a father. Ross
looks at Blake. She fidgets. Ross glares at Rog some more.

[Sidebar: Those of us who were watching GL back in the days of
Billy Lewis may recall a time when Blake was kidnapped by
the evil Gary, and Rog, who was then broke, was forced to go to
Billy - his worst enemy - and beg for a loan. Roger offered Billy
all his Spaulding stock, but Billy turned it down, saying he
would lend Rog the money simply because he knew how he
would feel if it were Mindy who got kidnapped. The irony, of
course, was that Rog was sleeping with Mindy at the time. This
scene was amazingly reminiscent of that classic....]

HOTEL
=====

Frank appears wearing a tux and Eleni fawns over him as he
compliments her on her scheming and kicks himself for being
clueless. She laughs at how easy he was to trick. They dance
and get romantic. She compliments herself on her taste in
husbands. [Can you say Alan-Michael Spaulding?] They smooch.
He picks her up and takes her to the bed; they kiss and grope
and fade to black.

If your clothing is fading to black, try Clorox bleach :)

JOURNAL
=======

Fletch slams down the phone and announces that Cutter and
the cops have surrounded the kidnap hideout. Ross tells Rog
that "for your sake" everything better go well. Vanessa looks a
nervous wreck, but keeps spewing positive comments. Ross
looks uncertain.

OUTSIDE HIDEOUT APARTMENT
=========================

Cutter tells his men, who have their guns drawn, to be careful
and not play Rambo. He doesn't want anyone getting hurt. He
slams the door open and they storm in, but no one is there.
Cutter sees the opening to the coal bin and curses. He tells
someone to get Forensics. [We see that one of the cops is
female. Yay!] Aloud, Cutter wonders where they've gone and
what Viktor's next move will be.

TRAIN CABIN
===========

Viktor hopes Dinah and Matt like trains. "They have a set of
charming little derelict ones, don't you think? Enjoy yourselves,
children. It'll probably be the last thing that you ever do." We
see Dinah and Matt tied together, back to back. Viktor leaves,
kicking aside trash in the corridor and singing to himself.

Matt tells Dinah she's handled everything just beautifully. "Now
what?" Dinah looks miserable.

DOCKS
=====

Predictably enough, a splotch of blood on the ground is all that
remains of Brent. AM stares in shock. Levy asks him where the
body is. He points to the bloodstain. Lucy enters and tells him
she didn't want to be alone. Levy shines a flashlight on the
blood and asks again where the body is. Everyone looks
shocked, especially the paramedics whose purpose here is now
pretty much nonexistent :)

That's all folks!
