GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 1995

HIGHLIGHTS
* Dinah & Viktor hole up & annoy each other.
* Ross gets the scoop on Viktor from Rog.
* Reva stirs things up at the Towers club.
* The Coopers & AM celebrate Brent's departure.
* Tangie's lap is full of clues.

Nighttime in Springfield, USA:

BOARDINGHOUSE: Levy puts the kidnap note in an evidence bag & tells
Tangie that Cutter will want to talk to her. Van asks whether Levy thinks
the kidnapper will continue to communicate through the Journal. He says
it's likely. Tangie says she's going to the office & promises to call if
she hears anything. Levy goes upstairs. Van asks Ross what they should
do. Ross says they have to stay calm & takes her outside.

He assures her that nothing bad will happen to Dinah & asks when Van saw
her last. It was this morning, when Van yelled at her for taking Peter
without telling anyone. Van is wracked with guilt, but Ross is sure that
Dinah understands. Van thinks Dinah believes her mother doesn't love her.

HIDEOUT: Dinah pops the cork on a bottle of champagne & offers a toast
"to the person who's going to make all this sneaking around worthwhile--
my mother. My devoted, adoring and exceedingly rich mother."

CEDARS: Rick takes Annie aside, but Josh pops in before they can talk.
Josh & Annie head for dinner at the Towers. Rick looks concerned.

TOWERS: Hamp tells the bartender to get a very special bottle of
champagne for Lucy. Reva materializes in a neon-red dress & greets Hamp
warmly, but he can't see or hear her, of course. Reva is disappointed
that she can't get a big old bear hug from him. "Oh well," she says,
teary-eyed, "At least I get to see you again."

Buzz joins Lucy & AM, ready to celebrate Brent's exit from Springfield.
Alan, resplendent a tux, thanks & congratulates Buzz for disposing of
Brent. "It was simple--if he didn't get on the plane, he wasn't going to
live," says Buzz. AM says he would've gladly done the deed. Alan shakes
Buzz's hand. Buzz looks like he's touching something odious.

Cutter enters & Reva begins her constant (annoying & unnecessary) commen-
tary on the action. [For brevity & sanity's sake, I'll omit her comments
except when they're germane. Just assume she's chattering away translu-
cently in the background in all Towers scenes.] Cutter demands woodenly
of Buzz, "Where is Brent Lawrence? What the hell did you do to him?"

As Reva hovers behind her, Nadine is bothered by a scent she can't
identify. She asks Cutter & Eleni if the scent is theirs. Eleni's not
wearing any. Cutter reminds Buzz about the restraining order. "I was very
restrained," responds Buzz. Cutter wants to know if Brent was still
breathing the last time Buzz saw him. "He was breathing very hard,"
running to catch a plane to Seattle," Buzz says. Cutter is annoyed that
Buzz drove Brent out of town. Buzz says he didn't have much choice after
admitting to raping Lucy. Without revealing his tactics, Buzz admits he
may have gotten a little more information than the lawmen could have.
Cutter's annoyed because they could have nailed him on fraud. Alan says
that could have taken months. Cutter thinks Alan & Buzz are in it
together & is PO'd because he lost his collar. Buzz says the important
thing is that Lucy doesn't have to deal with Brent anymore. Cutter says
if he didn't have bigger fish to fry, he'd haul Alan & Buzz down to HQ.

AM feels bad that Lucy had to hear this exchange, but Lucy says she
doesn't need protecting. AM feels that if he'd made his feelings known
earlier, she'd never have gotten involved with Brent. Lucy says it was
her fault for trusting Brent & for pursuing a relationship that didn't
involve love. AM assures Lucy that Brent won't show his face again with
so many people after him now.

SUMMERFIELD JOURNAL: [Yes, that's what the sign in the newspaper office
says. Must be part of that "find the weird thing in today's episode"
contest.] Tangie sees her message light blinking & plays the tape. It's
Brent: "Tangie Hill, you're a lot closer to a big story than you realize.
You don't even have to go out looking for it; it'll come straight to you.
I'll be in touch."

BOARDINGHOUSE: Ross says Dinah knows how much Van loves her, but Van's
not sure. She says Dinah keeps comparing herself to Bill & Peter. Dinah
couldn't possibly blame Van for what she did over 20 years ago, says
Ross. "Why wouldn't she? You did!" responds Van tearfully. Both she &
Ross feel they haven't done right by Dinah. Blake says they should stop
beating themselves up. But she had so many problems & I didn't listen,
Ross insists. "She only told you what she wanted you to hear," says his
clear-eyed wife. Ross thinks he didn't ask the right questions. He
mentions the stranger at the 5th St. ball. Blake & Van bombard him with
questions about the guy. All he remembers is a tall, mid-40s, English-
accented guy. He's upset that he didn't ask Dinah about him. Blake says
they should tell Cutter. Ross decides to investigate further & runs off.

HIDEAWAY: Viktor asks if Dinah feels at all upset about causing her mom
so much worry. Dinah says Van's not likely to be worried; then corrects
herself & says Van'll be worried sick. "She adores me. She still treats
me like her precious little girl." Viktor is dubious. "She probably
doesn't even miss you." Dinah says Van must be a miserable wreck. Viktor
thinks Dinah's getting a kick out of that idea. Dinah says Viktor hasn't
given her much choice & when the whole thing is over, she'll probably
spend the rest of her life making it up to Van. Viktor thinks Van would
have reacted more quickly if he'd taken Peter. No, Peter's only adopted,
says Dinah. Why did she adopt him? wonders Viktor. "To make up for losing
me," Dinah replies. She says Van didn't want to give her up, but had no
choice. Sort of like The Prince and the Pauper. Peter's the prince &
she's the pauper, but not for long. "We're going to be richer than our
wildest dreams," she assures Viktor. She sips her champagne.

TOWERS: Reva thinks Alan looks great & wonders if he's as manipulative as
ever. Alan thanks Buzz for getting rid of Brent; Buzz says he did it for
Lucy, but AM was pretty good, too. Alan notes that Buzz doesn't like AM
much; Buzz says it's because AM hurt his daughter in the past. (Which one
is he talking about?) Alan says people can change--he & Buzz certainly
have. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't choose your son for my daughter.
But it isn't up to me. It isn't up to you either." Reva fades out.

Eleni & Nadine watch Lucy & AM. Eleni thinks there will be a happy
ending. Reva appears behind them. Nadine is surprised that it doesn't
bother Eleni to see AM with someone else. "Once I have loved someone a
lot, I hate to see him happy with anyone else, even after I think
it's..." She trails off. She feels something in the air. Buzz joins them
& Nadine asks if he feels it. She thinks there's a spirit in the room,
but she can't tell if it's good or bad. She hushes everyone & closes her
eyes & calls on the spirit to give her a sign. Buzz laughs & says
Deenie's making a fool of herself. Reva knocks a water glass into
Nadine's lap, convincing her that her 6th sense is on target. Buzz thinks
Nadine's just a klutz. Nadine insists she feels the spirit moving. She
says she'll be right back. Reva giggles & disappears.

Annie & Josh enter. She thinks she's not dressed up enough, but Josh
assures her she's beautiful. [She happens to look fine, in a stylish gray
suit. Her hair, however, is in one of those flips reminiscent of Sissy on
Family Affair or Patty/Cathy on The Patty Duke Show. Ugh.] Hamp seats the
couple. TransReva tells Max, the bartender, how tough it is being
invisible. Every head used to turn when she entered a room. "Now I'm
reduced to floating & spilling drinks on people to get attention.
Sometimes you'd like to reach out & touch the people you love. My
children can't see me either. All I can do is love them from a distance &
hope they can feel it. Same with you, Joshua." She fades out.

LEWIS HOUSE: In her sleep, Marah smiles & says, "Mommy."

ROGER'S BEDROOM: Ross enters & wakes Rog by banging on his bed with a
cane. "Where's my daughter?" he yells. Rog jumps out of bed (pretty
agile, considering his injuries, Ross notes) & yells back. Ross wants to
know what happened to Dinah the night of the ball. He demands answers.
Rog calms down & says he'll tell Ross everything he knows, even though
Ross might not be ready to hear it: Dinah picked Rog up in Ross's car
after she stole the money. They were both in a bad way. He could see that
Dinah was scared. They wound up at Hart's farm. "Alone?" asks Ross. Yes,
of course, says Rog. "What else happened that night?" asks Ross.

JOURNAL: Tangie listens to Brent's message over & over. Stu enters &
startles her. She plays the tape for him. She has no idea who the message
is from & she's trying to identify the background noise. Stu thinks it
sounds like a plane. Tangie gets excited--she's sure he's right. Stu asks
what the big story is. "I wish I knew," she replies. "You have no idea?"
presses Stu. No. Well, one, she admits. She decides to listen again.

TOWERS: Alan tells Lucy he's sorry for everything she's gone through &
says she should come to him if she ever needs any help. He says good
night & AM glowers.

Nadine is sure something's not right. Buzz agrees--Alan's being way too
benevolent. Nadine agrees, but she's still wrapped up in the spirit
world. TransReva strides by. Buzz teases Nadine some more, but she's very
serious about feeling something.

TransReva settles next to Annie. Josh why Annie was tense when he picked
her up. {"There's something you're not telling him," whispers TR.) Josh
says it's OK for Annie to have a past. It might even make him feel better
after the problems his past has caused. (TR: "You ain't seen nothing yet,
Bud.") He wants them to start a history together. He assures her he's not
crazy, even though he saw his dead wife's ghost. (TR: "I ain't history
yet.") In a dreamy, husky voice, Josh tells Annie how beautiful she is.
They stare soulfully at each other. TR fades out & rematerializes at the
bar in a tizzy. "I've got to do something, quick!" she yells at Max. She
considers starting a riot. "It wouldn't be the first time." She sees a
guest check sitting on the bar & writes something on it. Then she blows
the paper across the room. It lands near Nadine's foot. TR fades out &
reappears behind Josh. "There's trouble at home," she whispers. Josh
looks concerned & Annie asks what's wrong. Josh says he's overcome with
emotion. He invites her to dance. He looks over his shoulder, then
concentrates on Annie. TR turns her back disappears in a huff.

AM asks Lucy if she wants to leave. She wants to stay because it's the
first time in weeks she's been happy. AM says Lucy deserves a lifetime of
happiness. "Believe it."

Buzz thinks it's time for Lucy to go, but Nadine says she should be
allowed to enjoy herself. Buzz wants to get going, but Nadine wants to
stay. "I still feel like something's going to happen." Her foot nudges
the message from Reva.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Cutter questions Jet about her boarders. She's rather
short with him. David senses her tension. "I hate knowing that my home
isn't safe," she says. David hugs her. "This is a safe place, and it's
here for you any time you want it."

On the porch, Blake tells Van how sorry she is. She tries to reassure Van
that kidnappers usually don't hurt their victims. Van knows that, but she
worries anyway. Blake wonders where Ross went, but Van doesn't know.

In the kitchen, Cutter continues to drive Jet nuts. Blake tells David
they have find Dinah. David thinks they should leave it to the cops. "I
can think like her," Blake insists. "I can find her." Blake feels that
she owes it to Ross & begs David to help.

HIDEAWAY: Viktor remembers the good old days, including some Australian
idiot nicknamed Wormy, who knew that Dinah ridiculed him behind his back.
"Don't get any of the same ideas about me," Viktor warns. Dinah channel-
surfs & makes Viktor dizzy. She's looking for news about herself. She's
sure it will be a national story. "People will be tying ribbons around
trees for me. I just hope they use a flattering picture." [ROTFL!] Viktor
says it's too soon for the story to be in the news. He opts for more
champagne, but warns that bubbles make him flirtatious. Dinah chirps that
it's a pity the bottle's empty & decides to run off to bed. "So soon?"
asks Viktor, with a leer. Dinah goes into another room & shuts the door.

ROGER'S: Rog asks if Ross is really asking whether he & Dinah slept
together. "Tell me I'm wrong," says Ross. "Oh, come on," says Rog,
neither denying nor admitting. Rog says Ross is over the edge & asks if
Dinah is in trouble again. "She's been kidnaped," admits Ross. Rog's face
registers true concern. "What happened?" he asks. Ross says she was
chloroformed & taken from her room. "Viktor!" whispers Rog. Ross
recognizes the name of the man who allegedly stole the 5th St. money. Rog
describes him & Ross knows it's the same man he saw at the ball.

Rog says Dinah owed Viktor money, he threatened her & that's why she
stole it. Ross is furious that Rog let Viktor go, knowing that the police
had the money. Rog didn't think Viktor would have the nerve to come back.
"How dangerous is he? How far will he go?" asks Ross.

TOWERS: Buzz says good night to Lucy. AM promises to take care of her.
Buzz rejoins the Cooper ladies as they discuss the spirits. Buzz thinks
he's the only sane person in the family & Eleni thinks that's scarier
than ghosts. Nadine notices the note by her foot. It says, "Marah has a
fever." Nadine asks where Josh is. "Not where I want him to be," says TR.

Annie & Josh continue to dance. Nadine interrupts & shows Josh the note.
Josh asks Hamp where the note came from. Hamp goes to investigate. Annie
encourages Josh to go home & check on Marah & offers to come along. He
tells her to wait in the restaurant; he should be back in a few minutes &
will call her if there's a problem.

Lucy just wants to go back to work. Tomorrow will be the first day she
doesn't have to worry about Brent. She asks AM to dance.

JOURNAL: Tangie is startled by Alan's reflection in her computer monitor.
He updates her on Brent Lawrence: Buzz escorted him to an airplane headed
for Seattle & he won't be coming back. Tangie perks up at the mention of
a airplane & wonders why Buzz is so sure Brent won't be back. Alan says
Brent confessed to raping Lucy. Tangie knew Brent wasn't trustworthy &
that she shouldn't believe his accusations about Alan. Alan invites
Tangie to resume their evening & invites her to his house for a nightcap.
The phone rings, but no one speaks when Tangie answers.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Jet suggests that Van go home, but Van can't leave until
she knows something. Jet empathizes; she would feel the same if it were
Peter. Van remembers when Dinah asked if Van loved her. She said of
course, but wondered if it was really true, if she loved Dinah the way
she loved her sons. And Dinah could tell what she was thinking. Jet tells
Van to ease up on herself. "The reality is that Dinah is not a very easy
person to like." And since she didn't grow up with Van, the relationship
is bound to be different. Van says the truth is that she loves Dinah very
much & doesn't want to lose her. Jet says she won't. Matt will find her.

HIDEAWAY: Viktor hums & makes noise with a newspaper. Dinah grabs the
paper from him & yells at him to shut up so she can sleep. Viktor
continues to hum until they hear a knock at the door. He goes to the door
with his gun in hand. Dinah waits nervously out of the line of fire.

BOARDINGHOUSE: David makes Blake promise to stay out of the cops' way.
She questions him carefully about what he saw in Dinah's room, but gets
impatient & wants to see it herself. David warns that the cops won't let
her in, but she has faith in her charms. A cop stops her before she even
makes it into the stairwell. She tries a few different stories--needs to
use the bathroom, needs to get something from her old room--but the cop's
not buying. David pulls her aside & tells her to go home to Ross. He
promises to keep an eye out for news at the boardinghouse. Van asks Blake
to call if she learns anything from Ross. Blake promises that they will
get to the bottom of it, then leaves.

ROG'S: Rog says he promised to kill Viktor if he came back. Ross learns
that Viktor is a European operative who may or may not be a sociopath.
Rog says he also fancies himself a bon vivant, likes to live the high
life & was a friend of Dinah's in Europe. Rog doesn't think he'll hurt
her & doesn't believe that Viktor is the kidnaper. Ross promises that if
it IS Viktor & Dinah gets hurt, Rog will wish he'd died in his car
accident. Ross leaves.

HIDEAWAY: Viktor asks who it is; the guy says he's with the phone
company. Dinah grabs Viktor & says to let the guy in--she wants a phone.
Viktor grips Dinah's hand very tightly while he tells the guy to get
lost. Dinah yells at Viktor for grabbing her & Viktor tells her not to
give him orders. He asks what she thinks would have happened if the guy
had come in. He points the gun at her. "I'll do whatever it takes to get
my money. Don't forget it." Dinah sniffs.

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh checks in on Marah. She wakes up & he asks how she is.
She says she feels fine & that no one took her temperature. She was
having a dream about Mommy. "She was right here," says Marah with a
smile. "She kissed my forehead, like you did just now. She wanted to make
sure I was OK." Josh looks thoughtful.

TOWERS: Annie thinks they will have to cancel dinner. Hamp tells her not
to worry. Rick sees her & (after learning that Josh isn't there) asks her
to sit down with him. He doesn't want to be put in a position of having
to lie. "What if he does find out?" asks Rick. "Then he'd never forgive
me & I'd have to leave," answers Annie. TR likes this development.

Lucy & AM get up to dance. The music is slow and romantic. AM says it's
how he dreamed of dancing with her at the ball.

JOURNAL: On the phone, Brent asks Tangie how much she really knows about
Alan. He suggests she ask him what he's hiding at Spaulding. He hangs up.
Alan asks who it was & T says someone canceled an interview. Now she has
time for a nightcap with Alan. Alan smiles as the screen fades to black.
