Not many commercials this time...sorry. The word for today is "SELF-
EFFACING." You'd think all Springfield was vying for Citizen of the
Year?!

CEDARS: Annie finds Rick in the hall, distracted. He's nervous about
the upcoming M&M (mortality&morbidity review, in which the
hospital board reviews the circumstances of a patient's death). As
Annie reassures him, Reva appears behind her. Rick doesn't see Reva.
She smirks as she watches Annie's distress. As Reva follows Annie
down the hall, she fades away.

Rick enters the meeting room and commiserates with Lillian. Lillian
is suspicious of the data, and asks Rick to tell her the truth.

JOURNAL: Fletch tells Tangie that Holly isn't here, he doesn't know if
she will ever be. His phone rings; it's Holly. Roger watches from her
bed as she tells Fletch he didn't see what he thinks he did. A nurse
is coming to take care of Rog, and as soon as she arrives, Holly wants
to be with Fletch. Fletch hangs up.

Rog gets out of bed and tries to leave, but Holly stops him. He
insists he can't keep putting her in this position ;) and then
collapses.

LEWIS HOME: Jet and Skunk approach the door. "So, this is where
your kid spends half his time?" Skunk is impressed.

Inside, breakfast-time chaos reigns. Bill is looking for his bagels,
and Van can't find Peter: "Where's my baby boy?" She doesn't seem upset
yet: she thinks Pete is hiding.

SOME ROOM SOMEWHERE: Sitting on a bench [I'm sorry, I watched
the whole ep at least twice and I still can't figure out where they
were], Dinah bounces Peter on her knee and tries to remember the
words to "Farmer in the Dell." Peter leans his head on his hands and
looks bored. Dinah sings the line about the farmer taking a wife and
asks "What comes after that? something about cheese standing
alone." "Yeah," Peter agrees morosely. Dinah apologizes for the
unpleasant surroundings and assures Peter that everything will be
OK. Peter looks unconvinced.

Roll lighthouse.

LEWIS HOUSE: Van asks Bill, Marah, Henry and then Josh, but no one
has seen Peter. It's the nanny's day off. Josh goes to look outside.

On the front step, Jet gives Skunk back his jacket. He's wearing a
ponytail. He tells her that the "motherhood thing" isn't a problem.
Van bursts out of the house, asking whether they've seen Peter and
his nanny. Jet freaks and Van gets rapidly more nervous as Josh
returns and announces that Pete isn't in the backyard.

CHEZ HOLLY: Miss Neurotic makes the Dodger get back in bed over
protests. He continues to pull the martyr routine. She assures him
she doesn't blame him for the accident. "Freud says there are no
accidents," Roger retorts, and a moment later, "Holly...it wasn't an
accident." He admits that she was right in calling him wilful and
melodramatic; it was all a ploy to get her attention. "I brought all
this on myself...I should have been killed....it's just that I love
you so much." She shakes her head and rolls her eyes, finally grabs
the phone to call Fletch.

JOURNAL: Tangie butts her nose in and Fletch tells her off. "Stop this
rehearsal for some tawdry talkshow." Tangie tells him the
unconcerned act is good, but Holly won't buy it. He gets all contrite
and admits she has a point. The phone rings. Fletch answers it with
"You got me, whadda you want with me?" Holly: "I want you to stay
on the line." She needs to talk to him." Fletch: "I got no problem
with that." He hangs up again. (?)

Tangie goads Fletch some more and tries to tell him to make up with
Holly. He ignores her, yells some orders to the staff, and walks off.

HOSPITAL: Rick asks if Lillian is questioning his medical expertise.
She tells him the tests show a sharp drop in O2 levels (oxygen in the
blood) right before Eve went into cardiac arrest. Rick insists the
machines malfunctioned, but Lillian isn't buying it. She spells it out
for him, saying it would be medically and ethically wrong -- she
thinks he pulled the plug. Rick sinks into a chair, despondent, and
Lillian takes it as an admission. "What are you going to do?" He tells
her she has to do her duty and tell the board what she found. Eve
died from her illness, and that's all there is to it, so he's sure
everything will work out OK. (Yeah, he looks awfully confident.)
Lillian isn't so sure. "How could you have taken that decision into
your own hands?" Rick shakes his head.

"He didn't," says Ed from the door. "I did."

(commercial)

Ed tells Lillian what really happened: how he disconnected the
machines before Rick showed up, and Rick did everything he could to
revive Eve. Rick tries to stop Ed but he plows on. He tells Lillian
that Eve was essentially already dead. He doesn't care what the law
says, he did what was right. If necessary, he'll confess in order to
save Rick's reputation. Lillian is pessimistic. A nurse tells Lillian
she's needed. She leaves and father and son stare at each other.

Elsewhere, Annie sings to herself as she saunters into the dressing
room and starts to strip. A bright red dress hangs in her locker. Reva
appears behind her; Annie yelps. "Rebecca" apologizes for startling
her and asks after her date. Annie says it was cut short, but Josh
showed positive signs of wanting it to work. "I bet Dr. Rick Bauer's
not going to be thrilled by that." Annie wonders what "Rebecca"
means. "Well, I just got the impresssion that you and Dr. Bauer
*knew* each other in Chicago." Reva claims one of the nurses told her
this. Annie spouts something about Rick being supportive, but claims
they're not really such good friends. Reva mentions trouble in her
own relationship, and pretends she's interested in Rick but too shy to
speak up. Annie offers to introduce her. Reva doesn't want to cut in
on Annie's territory. The "vibes" are strong between Annie and Rick;
"Rebecca" can tell. Annie insists they're just friends. Reva bats her
eyes and pretends to buy it.

WHEREVER: Dinah apologizes to Peter for not having any "baby gook"
to feed him. They just have to stay here for a while until things are
safe, and then she'll get him food. Peter plays with his ears and
continues looking bored.

LEWIS HOME: Josh and Van calmly but quickly comb the place while
Bridget has a panic attack and Skunk and Bill stand around looking
helpless. Van says the last time she saw Peter he was in bed at 1 AM.
Jet's voice rises hysterically and Dinah strolls in holding Peter,
innocently asking what all the yelling is about. Peter gives the
camera his biggest smile as we fade to black.

Would you pant like a dog for a Klondike bar?

Van and Jet fawn over a bewildered-looking Peter as Dinah explains
that she just took Pete for a walk to get better acquainted. She
didn't see anyone around to tell. Jet and Van pass him back and forth
and discuss how scared they were. Pete looks a little disgusted as Jet
showers kisses on him. Closeup on Skunk's face, looking...angry?
bemused? He's not a good enough actor to tell. :P

Van yells at Dinah for not telling anyone; Josh comes to her defense,
saying it was a simple mistake. Closeup on Dinah's face wearing a
sober "Gee, my mom really doesn't trust me...little does she know
how right she is" look, as Van insists that Peter could have been
hurt..."Anything could have happened!"

While still on Dinah's face, we hear a male voice: "Insanity." Flip
to:

HOLLY'S HOUSE OF TESTOSTERONE It's Leo. "That is the word that I
would use to describe this plan of yours," he tells Rog, who's still
lying on the bed. Leo sits on the bed next to him. ;) Rog insists it
was a good plan. Leo thinks he's crazy to drive his car off a bridge
just to win back a woman. Rog says the proof of the plan is how well
it worked. Leo wants to have Rog committed. He tells Rog he came to
quit. Rog won't believe it. Leo came to see how Rog is getting along.
"Where am I?" He points out that even though Holly knows he's
regained his memory, he's still in her bed.

JOURNAL: Fletch tells Tangie the article she wrote is crap, nothing
but candy-coated praise for Spaulding. He refers to Alan as "your
boyfriend" and Tangie defends Alan. Fletch insists Alan doesn't help
anyone unless there's something in it for him; he can't understand
what women see in those types. Women say they want honest, true,
hardworking men, but what they really want is someone with money
and charm. Tangie tells him he's talking about Holly and Rog. "Do you
want a woman, or do you want some island girl who comes rushing
into your boat when it comes into port?" She looks confused for a
moment. "Well, you know." Fletch snorts. [I get the feeling Marcy
Walker botched her line and Jay Hammer was trying not to break
up.] He tells her he wants Holly to leave Rog and come back home
with him. He feels like he's carrying the relationship on his own. He
just wants a little evidence of love from the other end. Holly hears
this last part and softly calls his name.

A guy makes a call to change his long-distance carrier and randomly
asks the operator to marry him. Is this love in the 90s?

Holly asks Tangie to leave, but first Fletch repeats his point about
the Spaulding article. "It's not a matter of trust, it's a matter of
experience....there's no point in wasting time going down the wrong
road." Tangie gets the point and leaves. Fletch gives Holly the cold
shoulder, but she won't leave him alone. He tells her he doesn't care
what she does, as long as she shows up and does some work.

Holly follows Fletch into her office and assures him he didn't see
what he thought (namely, Roger kissing her). Why is it so hard to
convince him? She tells him Rog got his memory back. Fletch nods as
she describes the process. [Could Fletch possibly care less? I think
not.] She insists that Rog understands she doesn't love him anymore.
"There's no problem anymore...it's over." He tells her she got that
right: "It's over!" Exit Fletch.

CEDARS: Annie assures "Rebecca" that she's wrong about Rick.
Haltingly she explains that she and Rick "crossed paths" at a rough
time in Annie's personal life. She would have "disintegrated" without
Rick's help. He's a great guy. Reva sympathizes. Annie repeats her
offer to introduce them. Reva insists that she's "not in the market"
unless things go wrong between her and her guy. "I tell you, Annie...
it's her or me. A fight to the finish." Annie feels sorry for the
other woman. ;) "I get a feeling you usually settle things the way
you want them." She leaves; Reva laughs to herself and fades away.

Rick tells Ed he can't confess to the board. Ed is determined to do
so. They argue a little. Dr. Grant and another doctor enter to start
the review. Ed wants to stay, but Dr.Grant tells him the rules say he
has to wait outside. Rick assures him it'll be OK. Ed passes Lillian
on his way out, and they give each other a significant look...

Small children attempt to explain the ingredients of ice cream.

Ed sits in the hall for a moment, then gets up and goes back in. He
apologizes for interrupting, but really wants to sit in on the
proceedings. Dr.Grant still doesn't think it's appropriate, but Ed
pulls rank as chief of staff and sits.

Dr. Grant makes a little speech about how hard it is to lose a
colleague, but the nature of Eve's particular case make it more
compelling. Rick admits that he originally resisted the experimental
drug, but he bowed to Eve's decision. He explains what a tough
situation it was for him, given how close Ed and Eve were. "I
sometimes felt I was treating both of them, the bond was so great."
He adds that this didn't interfere with his treatment. He did
everything he could for Eve, before and after she went into cardiac
arrest.

Dr. Grant asks Lillian to report; she's surprised. She thought she was
going to just observe.

LEWIS HOME: "I've never been so happy to see anyone in my whole
life," Vanessa announces, as Dinah rolls her eyes. Peter sits in
Marah's lap like a king as literally the whole family fawns over him.
Dinah watches from afar, her cynical expression back. Then she turns
and leaves the house. Brooding, she stares into the distance outside
as the family's laughter reaches her from inside. Suddenly, Viktor
comes up behind her and puts his hand over her mouth.

HOSPITAL: Lillian reports that hospital staff did everything by the
book in Eve's treatment. She points out that Dr. Grant was the
ranking physician present at the time of death. He defers to her for
final comments. Lillian's hands twist nervously on the file with Eve's
name on it as Dr. Grant asks her if there's anything irregular they
should consider.

OUTSIDE LEWIS HOME: Viktor tells Dinah she's had her last chance;
he wants his money. She insists she can't kidnap her little brother.
She'll get the money, but kidnapping is too dangerous, too messy. He
tells her she's too soft; he'll kidnap Peter himself. He's wasted a
lot of time on her, and she's not worth it. "Oh yes I am...I'm worth a
fortune." Dinah laughs as if the idea has just occurred to her:
"Kidnap me instead!"

HOLLY (round the) BEND: Leo tells Roger what he did isn't love, it's
sickness. [Go Leo!] "Go see a psychiatrist...a witch doctor! A dojo
master!" Rog compares himself and Holly to two molecules bonded
together, unable to exist separately. He's just reminded Holly of
this, and "she is mine."

JOURNAL: Holly pulls Fletch back into the office and tells him if he
saw something he didn't like, it's his own fault for sneaking into her
house. He yells at her some moes to storm out again, but she grabs him
by his tie and tells him to shut up, then kisses him firmly. "Marry me."
Fletch looks stunned as Holly wipes lipstick off his face.

That's all folks!
