HIGHLIGHTS:

* Bridget deals with the specter of Hart
* Julie works on her scheming skills
* Nick & Rog provide us with some clues to the upcoming Alan storyline
* Jenna scopes out the territory surrounding the Cooper marriage
* Buzz propositions Alex; she returns the favor
* AM & Frank match wits [Not a fair fight, you say? OK, so Frank gets
some help from Blake]

Afternoon in Springfield, USA...

BOARDINGHOUSE: Julie, in a black bra & shorts, is washing her hair in the
kitchen sink as Bridget enters. Jet tells the ho to put some clothes on &
wash her hair in the bathroom, thank you very much. Jules complains that
the bathroom is ocupado & she has a job interview. Jet's thrilled; maybe
Jules will start earning a living & stop sponging off her brother--BTW,
she digs, does Tony know the *real* reason you're unemployed? As Julie
rudely begins blow-drying her hair (right there in the kitchen!) a
telegram arrives. As Bridget reads it, the color drains from her face.

SPAULDING MANOR: Donna fawns over David while Buzz inquires testily
whether Alex knows they're waiting. Donna says Alex is busy, but knows
they're there, then returns her attentions to "the very handsome Mr.
Grant." She seats him right beside her on the couch & offers him "a
nibble," then complains of the heat & unbuttons her uniform a bit.
[ROTFL!] She goes to fetch him a glass of iced tea. David asks Buzz why
they've come to Alex for $$ when they could ask almost anyone else in
Springfield. "She's scary; even her maids are scary," he notes. Buzz says
Alex owes him. She enters, demanding, "Who the hell is Mr. Grant?" Buzz
introduces his "partner" to Alex & offers her a once-in-a-lifetime
investment opportunity.

COOPER HOUSE: Alan-Michael unsuccessfully tries to reach his friend the
orthopedist (guy's on the golf course, natch). Frank protests that he'll
be fine with the doc who set his leg, even though he can't remember the
guy's name. Eleni doubts the doc will make a housecall all the way over
from Clayton. AM & Eleni are both surprised that Frank would be sent home
in traction. AM offers to retrieve his friend from the golf course, but
Frank reminds Eleni about her catering job, so AM agrees to babysit
Frank. Once she's gone, AM toys with the traction weight & wonders, "How
much pain are you in, Frank? Really?"

WSPR: Nick returns & asks his secretary (Bonnie) to send roses to Mindy.
She says Rog was asking about his trip. Nick goes to his office & opens
some mail, then makes a call to thank someone named Charlie for a list of
Hong Kong connections. [Aha, the Asian thing again! Recall the mysterious
Asian woman who has been doing Alan's bidding...] Rog arrives & chastises
Nick for leaving without warning. Nick counters by asking Rog what
business he had going through Nick's mail. "I guess I opened the wrong
drawer," says Rog. Funny, `cause the drawer was locked, responds Nick,
then verifies the break-in by locating force marks. Rog found it curious
that Nick had only 1 item locked up & wonders why it's so important.

CASTLE SPAULDING: Buzz demonstrates David's skill at figuring odds with a
calculator in an attempt to persuade Alex to finance a trip to Vegas.
Donna is more impressed than her boss. ("He's like an accountant! I'm
dizzy!") Buzz tries to sell her on the unbeatable combination of David's
info plus Buzz's ability to read people. He offers her a cut of the
winnings. Donna offers to let David invest *her* money, but Alex banishes
her to the kitchen. Alex doesn't think Buzz is such a great judge of
human nature; after all, he got involved with Jenna. BTW, is he still?
David decides to cut & run. Alex wants to know why Buzz needs the $$; he
chooses not to elaborate. Not necessary; Alex has read the papers &
there's something he can do for her that doesn't require leaving town.

COOPER HOUSE: AM plays with the traction apparatus, pulling Frank's leg
gently up & down. He expresses false sympathy for Frank's plight &
wonders how he goes to the bathroom. Frank tells AM to get lost, but AM
says he has to stay in case Marina needs someone. He continues to press
Frank for details about "what 2 places" he broke his leg, meaning not
where the fractures are, but how Frank could have fallen down the stairs
at home while he was at the Roadhouse. Frank raises the specter of AM's
"phony business trip" & tells AM that his ploys won't work. AM says it's
too late: "You've already lost her. The only reason I'm here is to make
sure that you don't hurt her anymore than you already have."

BOARDINGHOUSE: As Julie sits at the kitchen table, Bridget holds the
telegram & arranges to meet with someone over the phone. We see the
telegram, which reads: "Arriving Springfield night. I know about Peter
and the custody trial. Can you meet me at midnight at the old house?
Don't tell anyone, especially my father. Hart." Jet tells Julie there's
nothing wrong, then hides the telegram in the first-aid drawer. [Can you
guess what will happen when Jet leaves?] Dylan arrives, sweaty & dirty,
with news that he picked up a new job for Lewis Construction & tickets
for a bluegrass festival that night. Bridget tries to beg off, saying she
wants to get a good night's sleep because Peter's coming in the morning.
Dylan protests, but Jet, conscious of Jules studiously filing her nails,
says she'll talk to him later & runs out. Dylan wonders what Julie's said
to Bridget this time. Julie smilingly denies saying anything.

COOPER HOUSE: AM & Frank argue over who is worse for Eleni. Frank
threatens to tell all he knows about AM's schemings behind the trip to
Florida; AM calls with the orthopedist gambit. Frank figures Eleni will
see through AM soon enough, just like before. Fade to...

DINER: Jenna reading Frank's letter to Eleni (retrieved from AM's jacket
pocket). Eleni enters from the kitchen, greets Vanessa & coos over Peter.
"I hope he doesn't grow up to be a ladykiller & break my Marina's heart
someday," she jokes. [Tune in for this story is 6 months, when they're
both 16 :-)] Van says she & Bridget are raising him to be respectful of
women. Jenna finishes the letter, then asks Eleni about the convention.
Eleni says she missed it, since she came home when Frank got hurt. When
Jenna hears he's home, she figures things must be better between the
Coopers, but Eleni says MYOB. Jenna tucks the letter into her purse, then
asks Eleni what she & AM did in Palm Beach & was he "all over" her? Eleni
is angry that Jenna would ask such a question & says she obviously
doesn't know AM very well. Bridget arrives, joins Vanessa in a booth &
tells her about the telegram from Hart.

BOARDINGHOUSE: As expected, Julie retrieves & reads the telegram. She
thinks aloud: "Old house... I probably should have said the farm. Oh
well, she'll probably get it." She replaces the telegram in the drawer,
then sets to polishing her nails. Dylan enters to set up Peter's playpen
& she asks him if he's seen a slip of paper with an address on it; it's
the address of her job interview. Dylan hasn't seen it. Julie tries to
make nice, apologizing for some of the things she's said & promising to
be "more patient" with Bridget, making allowances for Jet's "disadvan-
taged" background. Julie says she remembers where she put the slip of
paper--the drawer by the stove--but her nails are wet; could Dylan get it
for her. He declines, suggesting she wave her nails around til they dry &
then get it herself. As he leaves, Jules sighs with frustration.

COOPER HOUSE: David arrives & AM takes the opportunity to leave,
promising to return with Dr. Welch. Frank removes himself from "traction"
as David informs him that he's free for another week, now that Ross is
back from his honeymoon. Frank is glad to hear the newlyweds are back;
"the only one who can help me is Blake."

CARRIAGE HOUSE: Blake consults with a vet over her cat's listlessness.
Blake wonders if she feels neglected because of the honeymoon, but the
vet decides it's an ear infection & prescribes some drops. Then she oohs
over some old coat of Ross's. David rings the doorbell & tells "Donna
Reed" to "ditch the apron" & come with him to see Frank. He cautions her
that things aren't as bad as they will look, but Frank "broke his leg in
two places, maybe three, depending on who you talk to." :-)

CHEZ SPAULDING: Over watercress sandwiches, Alex tells Buzz she likes him
& they probably could have been friends if not for the chair incident.
She tries to get him to say it was all Jenna's idea, but Buzz doesn't
want to gossip. Alex cuts to the chase, says she knows Buzz owes megabux:
how much? He tells her the sums & she offers to cover it all if Buzz will
get some info for her. She explains that she needs to be on guard against
certain threats to her family & business. With Alan returning soon, she
wants to have everything running smooth as silk, so he'll be proved wrong
in thinking she can't handle things.

WSPR: Rog guesses, from the letter of Nick's he read, that someone's
trying to make Alex look incompetent. Nick is still peeved. Rog wonders
who sent the letter, which was a form letter to all stockholders. Not an
insider, he ventures, but how would an outsider get a list of Spaulding
stockholders? Nick guesses a disgruntled former employee. Rog smells a
news story, perhaps an attempted corporate takeover. Nick warns Rog to
keep his nose out of Spaulding business or risk breaking it.

Bonnie interrupts to tell Nick that Mindy's in Milan, a fact of which he
was obviously unaware. Nick asks a few questions but Bonnie doesn't know
much. Rog accurately surmises that things probably got a little
uncomfortable up on the hill without Nick to referee, thus Mindy's trip.
He likens the scenario to a Brothers Grimm fairytale, with Mindy locked
in the attic & Alex feeding her poison. Nick is not amused. Rog is
exceedingly amused by Nick's declaration that Alex has accepted Mindy. He
fills Nick in on the little dip the 2 women took at Blake's wedding.
"They were going at each other like a couple of lady mudwrestlers." Nick
departs angrily. Rog exits & tells Bonnie he needs the phone number of a
long-distance call that was just made. Bonnie says she can get it.

COOPER HOUSE: As Frank paces in his cast, Blake tries to get things
straight: "You want a doctor & a divorce lawyer, but you don't want them
to do anything?" David is occupied with feeding Marina "smooshed peas &
carrots." Blake suggests that Eleni might be encouraging AM, since she
went to Palm Beach with him. Frank says no, she's either confused or
trying to make him jealous. He goes into a tirade about AM's deceitful-
ness, to which Blake responds: pot, kettle, black. She offers him the
kind of sound advice he used to give her: "Have you thought about being
open & honest & sharing your feelings with Eleni?" Frank says yes, citing
the letter, which Eleni never even mentioned. David, covered with
smooshed veggies, interrupts to request some help with Frank's ill-
mannered daughter. Blake sends David to get cleaned up & go for Ross.
While he's doing that, she'll get a doctor. But first, she acts mildly
offended that Frank hasn't asked about her honeymoon. "How was it?" he
asks with extreme lack of interest. "Divine!" she exclaims, then exits.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Julie calls Chelsea's Cafe to see if she can postpone her
interview. Apparently she postponed it once before & can't do it again,
so she huffily says she'll just have to forego the honor of being their
hostess, then hangs up. She returns to the table & sharpens her claws
some more, then puts her metal nail file down on the stove & turns the
oven on high. Dylan returns with toys & she asks him to wish her luck on
her interview. He does so, since if she doesn't get the job & Tony cuts
her off, he doesn't want his tax dollars wasted on her welfare. She says
she can't find her nail file; maybe it's by the stove. She goes to pick
it up & fakes burning herself. Dylan comes to check.

DINER: Bridget tells Van about the contents of the telegram & they both
think it's weird that Hart wants her to meet him at midnight. Van is
happy that Jet told her about it, especially since Hart asked her to keep
it a secret, but Jet says she's committed to making all decisions about
Peter together with Van. She hopes Hart won't mess everything up for
them. Van wonders what Hart wants. Jet thinks she knows.

In the kitchen, Jenna is glad to know that Eleni has such a high opinion
of AM, because she really thought he was trying to keep her out of the
Florida trip. Eleni says AM wouldn't sabotage his own business & the only
thing they have to worry about is Alex finding out he's in business with
them. Jenna says it's obvious AM is in love with Eleni & worries about
being "odd man out" in the partnership. Eleni gives her a deadly look
that says she knows AM's feelings & it's none of Jenna's beeswax. Aloud,
she declares that AM knows very well that she is still a married woman.
She denies he'd ever sabotage her decisions. Jenna asks if Eleni might
have left something personal on the yacht. E says she hasn't been there
for over a month & heads back to the counter. AM arrives with the
orthopedist in tow & asks Eleni to come along to hear Frank's prognosis.

CASA SPAULDING: Buzz wonders how he fits into Alex's grand plans. Alex
suspects that AM & Jenna are having an affair; Buzz finds this laughable.
Alex doesn't care if they have a fling, but worries that they may be
covering "an unholy alliance" to make a grab for Spaulding. Buzz wonders
if it ever occurred to Alex that it might not have anything to do with
either her or sex. She thinks Buzz knows something. He says she'll have
to hire him to find out. "Will you do it?" she asks.

DINER: Jenna looks at the letter again, then leaves. Van wonders if Hart
wants money; Bridget thinks not. She thinks Hart wants the farm back, now
owned by Dylan. But she doesn't want to talk to Dylan about it, because
he freaks out at the mention of Hart's name. They decide that Jet should
meet Hart & just sound him out about what he wants, but not make any
promises re: the farm. If necessary, they'll talk to Dylan later, but Jet
doesn't plan to tell him about her meeting with Hart just yet.

BOARDINGHOUSE: Julie runs her hand under cold water while Dylan goes to
get some ointment. He opens the first-aid drawer & finds the telegram.
While Julie complains that she's getting a blister, he reads it & tells
her to keep her pants on.

COOPER HOUSE: AM, Eleni & Dr. Welch arrive to find Frank being tended by
Blake's veterinarian, Dr. Fromer, while Blake looks on. Frank says she's
the one who set his leg the night before. Eleni is surprised she would
come all the way from Clayton, but Frank says she lives in town, out near
the Roadhouse. Meeting AM's eyes, Frank explains that he drove Buzz out
to the Roadhouse the night before, then came back home & fell down the
stairs. Dr. Fromer examines an x-ray labeled "Spot" & says Frank's in
good shape "for someone with these particular injuries." AM asks Dr.
Welch if he would look at the x-ray, but Welch says it's bad form to horn
in when a colleague obviously has things under control. Welch leaves.
Fromer says Frank shouldn't be moved, but can eat whatever he wants. She
gives Eleni a pamphlet to explain Frank's care. Eleni worries that Frank
might need a prescription for the pain, so the doc hands Frank a bottle.
It's labeled "Deworming Pills." :-) Blake thanks the doctor & hands her
Ross's coat as if it were the doctor's own. The doc is pleased & says
she'll treasure it always. Outside, AM stops the vet & asks her if he can
have her card. Before she can answer, Jenna shows up with an empty
envelope labeled "Eleni." She asks if it belongs to anyone there and
waves the empty envelope in the air as the screen fades to black.
