GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE FOR FRIDAY MAY 24, 1996
			writer, Sharon Epstein
			director, Jo Anne Sedwick

	PENTHOUSE
Roger picks up a glass of wine. "To a night without Dinah, and many more
like it." He gets the drug bottle out of his pocket. "The surprise that
doesn't stop until you drop." Then he sets in on the coffee table. Hart
is outside listening at the door.

	VANESSA'S HOUSE
Dinah rings the doorbell (and chews a nail/cuticle). Vanessa is pleased
to see her. Dinah says she isn't sure if she's welcome.

	YACHT
A-M is piloting the yacht, while Lucy distracts him by saying how happy
she is with "the most gorgeous man, & a most fabulous yacht". She kisses
his neck and makes him laugh. Lucy thinks everything is perfect (that
means there's trouble ahead) and it feels like they are the only people on
earth. A-M points to something.

	SPAULDING MANSION
Alex tells Alan that Amanda was a "whoremonger" and spent her time
"peddling flesh". Alan yells at Alex to get out of the house. Alex says
that she told him in order to save the family. Alan calls her a liar.
Amanda pretends it's too horrible for her to hear. Alex says it's
horrible because it's true. Alan wants to call a psychiatrist for Alex,
because she is delusional. Alex didn't want to tell Alan, but Amanda was
leading Alan down a path that would make him lose everything. Alan says
he won't lose anything except Alex and asks her to get out. Alex reminds
Alan that as soon as A-M finds out about 5th Street, A-M will hate Alan
for lying again. The family will be split down the middle and only Amanda
will be happy, because she thinks she'll take center place in Alan's
heart. Alan proclaims that he makes his own decisions about business &
family, then hugs Amanda. Alex asks Alan, "Why would I lie about this?
What could I gain?" Alan thinks she gets a sick pleasure out of it
because she is insecure. <Amanda looks pleased.> He thinks Alex has
stooped to an all time low by degrading his daughter in front of him and
it's backfired. Alex says he can only trust her. He says that's not true
anymore. Phillip tells Alan to listen to Alex, maybe there is something
to it.

	YACHT
A-M & Lucy watch humpback whales. Lucy wants to do something special for
Alan since he charted such a spectacular course for them. Maybe they
should invite both families over when they get back. A-M suggests doing
it via satellite from separate continents. Lucy wishes they could bring
the peace and quiet back with them. A-M reminds her that that's why it's
called getting away from it all, "home is noisy, your father & my father
are noisy". Lucy, "I wish my noisy father could understand what your
father was doing with 5th Street so the stupid feud could stop." A-M
tells her to wish for something easier to accomplish. Lucy says she has
everything, but A-M gets her to admit that she wants their own cozy house
(not a mansion). She tells a long, rambling story about wishing for a
house (with fireplace) when she traveled with Buzz. A-M says he's
thinking about what their kids will look like and that her dream is now
his dream.

	VANESSA'S
Vanessa welcomes Dinah and they go into the livingroom where Matt is
looking at the plans for Ross/Blake's nursery. Vanessa asks why Dinah
came. Dinah just needed to get out of the penthouse. Vanessa gets
worried, but Dinah reassures her. Matt describes the nursery and Vanessa
tells Dinah that Ross would talk her ear off about the babies. Dinah
isn't sure he'd want to see her. Vanessa knows that Ross loves Dinah and
is worried. Dinah wants to know why. Matt finally says they should stop
making fools of themselves and explains to Dinah that Vanessa knows about
Hart & Dinah's plan for Roger.

	PENTHOUSE
Hart takes off a vent cover in the hall that leads into the penthouse and
puts a handkerchief with perfume into the wall (and a black
box--taperecorder?). He puts the cover back on.

Inside, Roger (lying on the couch) jumps up. "Laura's perfume again.
What's happening to me!" He spills his wine on the coffee table.

	SPAULDING'S
Phillip explains that Alex asked him to help get through to Alan about his
campaign against 5th Street. Alex says that she is not being vindictive
and knew Alan wouldn't believe her, but she wanted Phillip to help get
through to Alan. Amanda insists that Alex is just trying to get rid of
her and is filling Phillip's head with garbage. Phil says Alex told him
in Florida. Alan interupts and tells him that he can't believe anything
Alex says, "Hasn't being a Spaulding all these years taught you anything?"
Phil, "I haven't been a Spaulding in a while. I've been out of the loop."
Alan warns him to get the whole story before becoming involved. Phil
calls himself an impartial observer and thinks Alex is telling the truth.
Alex says she has proof, but Alan thinks she fabricated it. Amanda asks
why Alex hates her so much and what has she done to Alex to deserve this.
Alex tells Alan that Amanda, as Mandy Harper, hired out men and women as
paid escorts. Amanda cries out that she doesn't know why Alex despises
her so. Alex dares Amanda to look in Alan's eyes and deny it. Alan asks
if it's true.

	PENTHOUSE
Roger, "It can't be Laura's perfume. Laura's dead." He tells himself to
calm down and get a grip, there has to be a logical explanation. He
thinks it's a trick of memory. He's not going crazy-- Dinah's the one
taking the drug. He picks up the wine glass and wonders if there was some
residue since it's Dinah's glass. The phone rings. It's Hart using
Roger's voice. He tells Roger that Laura is here and he's seen her.
Roger asks who it is. Hart, "You know who this is. I can see Laura right
now." Roger calls it a prank. Hart hangs up. Roger, using caller ID,
finds out the phone number and uses a reverse directory to find out that
the call was made from the variety store across the street. He leaves.

	VANESSA'S
Dinah is upset and thinks everything is ruined. She asks if Vanessa
called Ross or the police. Matt tells Dinah to shut up and that Vanessa
is on her side. Vanessa tells Dinah how she figured it out without Matt
spilling the beans and that Matt has been a good friend to her. Dinah's
cellular phone rings. It's Hart from the store. He tells her that he has
a plan to lure Roger out of the house so that he can sneak in and replace
the drug with water. Then Dinah will be safe when Roger thinks he's
drugging her. Dinah tells Hart to be careful, because if Roger suspects
anything, Hart's dead. Hart says he'll be fine and will call her when
it's over.

Dinah asks Vanessa if she wants to know what the phone call was about.
Vanessa says only if Dinah wants to tell her.

	STORE
Hart hangs up the phone and sees Roger walk in. Hart ducks behind a
display.

	YACHT
A-M asks if Lucy wants to take the wheel. She reminds him of how she
drives, but takes the wheel anyway. He explains the instruments, stands
behind her and describes the engines, then kisses her. She asks him to
take over the wheel, while she kisses him.

	SPAULDING'S
Alan wants Amanda to tell the truth, "Did you sell yourself for money?"
Amanda didn't. He asks if she made money off those who did. She stutters
and admits she ran an escort service. Alan, "So, you were a pimp!"
Amanda, "I was alone, hungry and desperate." Phil looks uncomfortable.
Amanda explains that she was alone in that snakepit and had nobody to turn
to. Alan says she could have come home. Amanda thought she was dead to
everyone, she has never belonged. She wasn't the chosen one like Phillip
or A-M. She hated herself for what she did and was going to kill herself,
until she got his letter with the stock and she could begin again. Alan
says she abused their love and lied to him. Amanda wanted to work with
him at Advantage Systems to learn from him. Alan, "No. A.S. was a way
for you to dodge a bullet. You wanted to be a Vice President of
Spaulding, but you turned it down because Alex threatened to expose you."
Alex, "I knew you'd figure that out." Amanda insists that she wanted to
work with Alan, but he thinks she was saving her own neck.

Amanda desperately says she'll work even harder at A.S. Alan goes to call
A-M. Alex hopes Alan will tell A-M that he's dropping the assault on 5th
Street. Alan, "I want to talk to A-M." He leaves the room.

Amanda turns to Alex, "You BITCH!" She says Alex betrayed her. Alex says
she had to protect Alan from Amanda, "You knew he would jump at the chance
to destroy the Diner and it would affect his relationship with A-M. You
honed in on his weak spot." Amanda, "Father has no weak spots!" Alex,
"Pride! Pride has always been his Achilles heel! He was so furious with
Reva, he would have done anything and you saw that blind spot. If that
affected his relationship with A-M, you'd be there to pick up the pieces.
So you could be daddy's number one offspring." Amanda calls her jealous.
Phillip remembers his talk with Rick about who framed him. Amanda turns
to Phillip and says he's as much to blame as Alex.

	VANESSA'S PORCH
Dinah lights a cigarette, then puts it out and tells Vanessa that she's
trying to quit. Vanessa explains why she has a bandaged hand (cut it on
glass). Vanessa tells Dinah that part of her wants to scoop her up, take
her away and make sure the plan for Roger never happens. Dinah doesn't
need Vanessa to protect her. Vanessa says yes she does, he's a dangerous
man, but she won't stop Dinah. Dinah asks if she'll interfere. Vanessa
won't, because Matt convinced her that if she did, Dinah would think she
doesn't trust her judgment. Dinah asks why should Vanessa since Dinah has
had such poor judgment lately. Vanessa tells her that it's been hard to
watch her make mistakes. Dinah, "But you haven't given up on me and stuck
by me. So has Daddy and so did Grandfather." Vanessa says Henry never
wavered. Dinah thinks he saw the person she could become. Vanessa says
he loved her, and did see the promise in her. Dinah wants to be that
person and that's why she can't give up on the plan for Roger. Vanessa is
not happy about it, but she won't interfere. She believes in Dinah and is
proud of her. Dinah has waited a long time to hear those words. Van,
"Maybe too long, but I'm saying them now." They hug.

	STORE
Hart catches his jacket on a hook. Roger goes to the pay phone and finds
the earpiece is still warm. Hart hides behind high shelves while Roger
asks the owner who was using the phone. The owner doesn't know. Roger
goes to where Hart was hiding, but no one is there. He does find a piece
of cloth on the hook.

	PENTHOUSE
Hart (with a torn jacket) opens the door and goes in.

	SPAULDING'S
Amanda to Phillip, "You had to stick your nose in it." Phil doesn't know
why he's to blame. Amanda, "Why don't you take a guess, little brother."
He had to tell the truth and he's not invested in any of this. Amanda
tells him to stop acting innocent, she can read people-- that's why she
was so successful in L.A. She doesn't think he's the sweet little kid
that she remembers. Phil, "You grow up, you get wiser." Amanda, "Wise
enough to cut my throat." Phil, "Wise enough to know the cost of lies and
how much damage they can do." Amanda, "All you've done is stir up
trouble. Why DID you come back? Who asked you to?" Alex, "I did."
Amanda, "You picked the wrong person to team with. You sold me out. I am
not going to forget this. I'm not going to forgive. Stick with Alex and
those 5 years in Arizona will feel like a party. I'll see to it." Phil
has heard enough, "Goodnight... ladies." Alex wants to leave too.
Amanda, "In your dreams."

	YACHT
More kissing. A-M can't see the controls. Lucy wants him to cut the
engines. He says it's not a good place to do it. She just giggles and
kisses him. A beeping starts. A-M looks around.

	SPAULDING'S
Amanda says Alex will pay for what happened. Alan interrupts their
squabble. He couldn't get through to A-M and there is a big squall
heading toward the course he plotted out for them.

	YACHT
A-M listens to the radio describe the storm, but loses reception. Lucy
asks about the storm, but doesn't see anything. A-M says it doesn't
matter how close the storm is, because they aren't going to be there when
it hits.

	VANESSA'S
Dinah has to go to check on Hart, but asks Vanessa if she can come back
and spend the night. Van says sure, just be careful. Dinah leaves. Matt
comes out. Vanessa worries, "I let her go. Tell me I did the right
thing."

	PENTHOUSE
Hart opens drawers looking for the drug and finally notices it on the
coffee table. He opens the bottle, empties it into another bottle, puts
it in his pocket. He takes a bottle of water, pours it into the drug
bottle, shakes it, and dumps it into a plant. He goes back to fill the
bottle with more water.

Roger is at the front door, getting his keys out. Hart hears the key in
the lock and turns toward the door.
