GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, MAY 2, 1996

                          CRAZY FOR YOU
Written by Roger Newman and directed by Brian Mertes

Highlights:
* Rog & Dinah fantasize about driving each other nuts.
* Philip stakes out the Peabody's best eavesdropping spots.
* Buzz starts another round with Alan at the rehearsal dinner.

A beautiful May evening in Springfield, USA & Orlando, FL...

THORPE PENTHOUSE: Rog drips a drop of the slow-acting psychosis-inducing
drug into Dinah's glass of red wine. She returns to the room bearing a
tray of pate & crackers. She lifts her glass & toasts to everything
working out for both of them. Rog agrees heartily. Dinah places her
glass on the table without taking a sip & goes for the pate instead. Rog
asks why she didn't drink to her own toast & acts miffed when she says
she wants to eat first. Dinah looks at him with mild suspicion.

ORLANDO - PEABODY HOTEL: Before the other guests arrive for dinner,
Amanda & Alan pat each other on the back regarding their masterful plan
to bring down Buzz. Alan says it's not worth it if he loses Alan-Michael
in the process. He's concocted a surprise for tonight to make sure that
doesn't happen. He suggests that Amanda see what's keeping everyone
else. After she leaves, he regards Reva's place card. "Hello Alan," says
Reva, behind him. He turns to face her & gives her the once-over. She's
wearing a classy white ensemble. "You take my breath away," says Alan.

HOTEL, EXTERIOR: Lucy & AM swing shopping bags as they return from a day
in Orlando. She's wearing a sparkly, strapless little red dress & he's
wearing a suit [a little formal for taking in the sights of sunny
Orlando, IMO]. Lucy thinks it's a wonderful city & AM says she hasn't
seen anything yet. Next on the schedule is dinner.

HOTEL LOBBY: When they enter the hotel, Lucy & AM are formally welcomed
by the general manager. [The real McCoy, no doubt, judging by his wooden
delivery.] He tells them to enjoy the ducks. "Ducks? What ducks?" asks
Lucy. "Oh, you'll see," promises AM. He quacks a few times as they
continue walking. :-) They meet up with Rick by a fountain that has a
few ducks swimming in it. Buzz joins them, looking very natty in his
gray suit. He asks if they've seen Reva, but they haven't.

Alex comments to Amanda that she generally prefers her ducks with sauce
l'orange & mentions the fowl doings at the hotel--someone else's luggage
is in her room. It turns out to be Amanda's; she screwed up the
reservations & they have to share because there are no other rooms
available. Alex would rather sleep with the ducks. "I'm not sure they'll
want you anymore than I do," replies Amanda.

Some music starts playing & the ducks emerge from the fountain & start
walking down a red-carpeted path through the atrium. Amanda urges them
on with an expression that is slightly frightening from duck's-eye view.
Frank & Eleni giggle delightedly. Philip watches the doings from a
balcony, a look of grim determination on his face.

AM tells everyone there's no formal rehearsal, but an awesome rehearsal
dinner awaits them. Alex wonders where Alan is; Amanda says she doesn't
know. Alex pulls her aside & accuses her of mixing up the room
reservations on purpose. Amanda says it was a mistake; she didn't
realize AM & Lucy wanted separate rooms. Alex hopes AM is watching his
back because she knows Amanda & Alan are planning to put him out of the
loop, right along with Philip. Philip watches from above.

DINING ROOM: Alan thinks married life must agree with Reva. She thinks
Alan looks well too & guesses he's made his peace with AM. Alan admits
he never expected to be best man. Reva notes that Alan & Amanda seem
inseparable. "I know what it's like to lose children & I'd hate to see
you do anything to jeapordize that relationship with them again." Alan
pretends ignorance. He says Lucy is lucky that Reva is there to make
peace between the warring factions. She doesn't think she can work
miracles, but she'd like to see a truce until the kids are off on their
honeymoon. Alan doesn't answer.

Buzz enters, happy to have found Reva. He tells her she missed the duck
parade. Duty called, she says. "I was playing Mrs. Kissinger." Everyone
finds their seats.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah doesn't want to upset Rog, so she agrees to drink. She
takes a small sip of the wine & Rog smiles. Dinah tells him she knows
everything will be fine, because he seems so relaxed & happy now. He's
acting like the man she married again, not the man who's been so
emotional & "out of it." Rog scoots over next to her & puts his arm
around her. "I can see nothing but clear sailing ahead," he declares.
Dinah is glad he's gotten over the thing with the mask. So he forgot he
bought it--so what? Rog agrees. They will just look forward to their
wonderful future from now on.

Rog has a black-&-white fantasy: On the terrace, dressed in a smoking
jacket, he squeezes some drops of drug into a glass of wine. "A drop of
manic-depression, a soupcon of schizophrenia & a dash of paranoia." He
chuckles evilly. Dinah joins him. She is wearing a gossamer white robe.
"You haven't been yourself lately, darling," says Rog in an upper-class
pseudo-Brit accent. "The question is, who is myself?" asks Dinah,
laughing dementedly. Her lipstick is all smudged & she has other smudges
of dirt or makeup all over her face. Her hair is unkempt.

"Will I remain a larva in my cocoon forever or will I burst out & become
a butterfly?" She wants to fly, to soar with the other creatures of
spring & summer. Rog says there's just 1 problem--she's not a butterfly.
She's quite mad, in fact. "No, I'm Dinah, Queen of the May!" she
replies, settling on the ledge. Rog leans back in his chair & warns her
casually to be careful, or she'll fall & die. "Leaving me your sole
beneficiary, which would be too tragic. My life would be so deliciously
empty without you." Dinah stands on the ledge & spreads her arms, de-
claring that she can fly. Rog doesn't believe her. "Seeing is believ-
ing," he tells her. She sets out to prove him wrong & flaps off the
ledge. "Whee!" "Flying is easy," Rog notes sardonically. "Landing is the
tricky part." He shrugs his shoulders & walks away.

"I feel more strongly about you than any person I've ever known," says
full-color Rog to not-yet-psychotic Dinah. He picks up their wineglasses
& hands one to her. They clink & drink. [It looked like he switched the
glasses when he did this, which would mean he drank from the drugged
glass. I rewound to see where he had put his glass down & saw that he
put it on the far end of the table before scooting over next to Dinah.
But when he picked up the glasses after his fantasy, they were right
next to each other & he kept the one closest to Dinah, giving her the
one closer to him. So I'm not sure if he accidentally switched the
glasses or if this was a continuity problem. You'd think he'd be very
careful to make sure Dinah got the correct glass.]

Dinah comments on how much she likes the wine. She remembers when he
first ordered it for her at the Towers. Rog is sure it's the first time
he's bought this wine. At least, he *thought* he was sure. Dinah says
she might have been wrong--all the labels from this vinyard look the
same. Rog takes the bottle from her as Dinah fantasizes...

Dinah wears a long flowing purple-print dress & carries a mile-long
cigarette holder. Rog is dressed in a torn sweater & dirty sweatpants.
"Are you sure I need to go with those men?" he asks subserviently. Dinah
says it's for the best & shoves him toward the door. Rog asks if she
thinks he's really insane. Dinah says she's not the best judge of that.
If Rog goes with the nice men in the white coats (Rog waves at them),
the psychiatrist, Dr. Fodder, can decide. Rog agrees that Dr. Fodder
knows best. [groan] Since it's chilly out, the men have brought a coat
for him. Rog thinks the straitjacket is very "different" & giggles when
Dinah brushes her large feather fan across his face.

He boasts to the men that he used to be a counter-spy. The men humor
him. "The free world is very grateful, darling," says Dinah as they lead
Rog out the door. "Goodbye, darling!" he calls. Rog tells the guys how
he can kill a man with 1 finger. "Very good, Mr. Thorpe," says one.
Dinah waves as Rog walks down the hall. "Farewell, you fool." She shuts
the door & vows to get back everything he's stolen.

Rog says he has to go check with WSPR & goes into the other room. Dinah
smiles to herself. There's a knock at the terrace door & she goes
outside to meet Hart.

HOTEL DINING ROOM: Dahlia is talking privately with Frank & Eleni. She
wants to skip out on the dinner & go for a swim. She feels like she
doesn't fit in. She doesn't know the Spauldings & watching them is like
watching something weird on cable TV. Eleni admits they're a little
stiff. Frank says she's not helping. Dahlia can't understand why nice,
normal Lucy would want to marry into a family like that. She keeps
waiting for Uncle Fester to show up. Eleni & Frank says the dinner is
for both their families & Dahlia agrees to stick around.

Alan gets up to make a speech. He wants everything to be peaceful.
They've all made mistakes. He knows that some people think he is behind
Advantage Systems, but it's not true. He would never do something so
shoddy. He knows his word isn't good enough, so he's taken steps to
prove that he is blameless. He plans to buy Advantage Systems & stop
what they're doing. He will save the 5th St. Redevelopment Project & the
Cooper Diner. AM thinks this is great, but Buzz says it's a total crock.

Lucy gets upset at Buzz for making a scene. Buzz keeps railing at Alan &
Reva tries to shut him up. As the fighting gets louder, Rick sits
quietly, head down, & eats. Amanda watches silently from the sidelines,
her face a mask. Buzz refuses to shut up & he & Reva end up leaving.
Lucy cries on AM's shoulder. Alan apologizes to Lucy. Alex pulls Alan
aside & calls him on his treachery. Alan gets righteous, saying he
should have known Alex would take Buzz' side. Alex says Alan was so
smooth, but she knows he was lying. She hopes for AM's sake that he
never finds out. Alan warns her not to go any further with her
suspicions, unless she wants to tear the family apart. They rejoin the
table & Alan whispers something to Amanda.

ELSEWHERE IN THE HOTEL: Buzz & Reva get into it. He accuses her of being
on Alan's side. She reminds him that they are supposed to be on AM &
Lucy's side. Buzz is ticked because Alan is trying to look like the good
guy. "So let him," says Reva. All that matters is for the people of 5th
St. to get their homes back & for the Coopers to get the diner back. But
Buzz knows there's more to it--Alan wants to level 5th St. & he wants
Reva back too. From around a corner, Philip is listening.

PENTHOUSE TERRACE: Dinah says Hart is nuts; Rog could catch him & throw
them both off the roof. Hart was worried about Dinah after what Matt
told him & wanted to make sure she was OK. She thinks he's come to tell
her not to go through with the plan. Hart says she's wrong. They hear
Rog, so Hart climbs over the side & hangs from the ledge by his hands.
Rog comes out & asks who Dinah was talking with.

Dinah admits she was talking to herself. Rog asks what about. Stream of
consciousness, she says. Rog says she's full of surprises. Dinah says
she feels like the wine went to her head & suggests going inside for
some espresso. They go inside & Hart peers over the ledge.

REHEARSAL DINNER: Lucy apologizes to the whole table for what happened.
AM is sure Buzz & Reva will be back soon. Amanda says Reva can convince
Buzz to do anything. Alex thinks it will all be OK, but they can all
understand how Buzz feels. Alan makes a toast: He's very happy to have
both his children beside him. But they are there to celebrate what AM
has found--ideal love. AM gets up & says how wonderful it is to have all
their family & friends together. He's proud to be a Spaulding & proud of
how strong the family is becoming. Alan hugs AM. Amanda toasts to Lucy.

Frank sees that Dahlia has had enough & lets her cut out for her swim.
He warns her to be careful & stay on the hotel grounds.

ELSEWHERE: Philip continues to eavesdrop as Reva says she hates to admit
it, but not every man who's ever cared for her is stuck on her forever.
She thinks maybe Alan is doing this deal with Advantage to look like a
sugar daddy to AM & Lucy. And Buzz has to get over it. "You won. Alan
lost. End of story." Buzz saw the way Alan looked at Reva--as if she
were the main course. Buzz knows Alan doesn't care about the wedding;
all he cares is that he lost his woman to a burger-flipper. Reva doesn't
care. She knows who Buzz is. Buzz knows that Alan is trying to get her
back. He walks away. Reva starts after him. "I guess there's only one
way to find out," she says to herself.

PENTHOUSE: Dinah rejoins Hart on the terrace. She says Rog is getting
ready for bed & they only have a few minutes. She will not let Hart talk
her out of the plan. She knows she can make Rog believe he's crazy &
she's getting closer than ever. Hart knows he can't talk her out of it,
so he just wants to make it safer. He gives her a little transmitter.
She can put it in her pocket or purse. If she gets in trouble, she
presses a button & Hart will get beeped so he can come to her rescue. He
feels partly responsible for getting her involved in the scheme. She
starts to thank him, then gets a weird look on her face. [Cue weird
music] Hart asks if she's OK. She doesn't respond.

Inside, Rog is on the phone to Gregory, thanking him for the drug. He
knows that some people are more sensitive to it than others, so the
dosage has to be very precise. He ends the call & muses that it would be
tragic to overmedicate someone, especially someone young & beautiful.

REHEARSAL DINNER: The men smoke cigars that Alan had flown in from
Havana. (He has his pilot make an illegal stogey run to Cuba twice a
year. Don't tell the State Dept.) Amanda is smoking one too. Lucy asks
for a puff too. Too late, they warn her not to inhale. She makes a yuck-
face. Eleni entices Frank to head up for a "good night's sleep."

Lucy thanks her brother for everything. He thinks it's super that
tomorrow she'll be Mrs. Alan-Michael Spaulding. They've been through a
lot, but they made it. He can see how happy she is & says she deserves
it. Lucy just wishes that Nadine could have been there to see the ducks.
Frank says Deenie is Lucy's guardian angel & will always be there for
her. They hug & Frank & Eleni leave.

Alan tells AM that he hopes Lucy wasn't too upset by Buzz's outburst. AM
says she knows where it was coming from. Alan understands that Buzz's
whole life is wrapped up in the diner. AM says it's more than that--it's
other people's lives too, but now that Alan is taking care of Advantage,
no one has anything to worry about.

Alex asks AM if she can convince him to sleep with Lucy tonight. AM
doesn't intend to break the tradition, so Alex gives it up. Amanda
figures she'd better get upstairs before Alex shortsheets her bed. She's
sure tomorrow will be super.

Rick takes his cue to leave. He tells AM & Lucy to cherish what they
have. Lucy & AM have the room to themselves. Lucy doesn't want the night
to end. They decide to take Orlando by storm. Lucy thinks AM might have
something planned, but he sidesteps the issue as they head out.

PENTHOUSE TERRACE: Dinah sits down. Hart thinks she looks pale & sick.
She says she's fine; she just got a little lightheaded. She really
appreciates everything he's been doing & didn't know how much he cared.
She goes funny again [cue weird music] & Hart is concerned. She shakes
her head to clear it & says it's nothing & he should go. Hart doesn't
want to leave her like this, but she insists, so he goes. She stares at
the transmitter, then hides it in her hands when Rog comes outside.

"I was just thinking I'm the luckiest woman in Springfield," she says.
Rog thinks it's chilly & suggests bed. Dinah says she feels a little
weird & wants to stay outside for some fresh air. Rog tells her not to
stay outside too long, then kisses her & goes inside. Dinah stares at
the transmitter & sighs.

HOTEL SWIMMING POOL: Dahlia steps into the empty pool & starts swimming,
a big smile on her face. When she reaches the side, she sees Marcus
staring down at her.

ALAN'S ROOM: Alan answers a knock at the door. Reva is there. "Maybe we
haven't said everything we need to say to each other," she says.

RICK'S ROOM: Rick is staring out the window when he hears a familiar
voice behind him. "Hey pal, can I crash with you?" asks Philip. Rick
turns to face his old friend as the screen fades to black.
