GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, MAY 19, 1995

HIGHLIGHTS
* Peter & Vanessa meet Grandpa Sean.
* Annie has a chat with Reva.
* Roger puts his affairs in order.
* Eve has to make a decision.
* Fletch tells Alex to give it up.
* Dinah has a surprise visitor.

COMPANY: Everyone cheers & claps for birthday boy Peter as his candles are
blown out. David announces a very special surprise guest. "Hi son," says a
sleazy-salesman type in a plaid sports coat. "What the hell are you doing
here?" replies Matt. Bridget rushes up, ecstatic to see her dad. He asks
her to get him a cold drink.

CROSS CREEK: Josh brings down Annie's bag & gives her the keys to his car.
She refuses any additional assistance & leaves, to Josh's extreme
frustration. After she's gone, he talks to the air & tells Reva it's all
her fault. Her disembodied voice laughs. Annie returns & says she's not
giving up without a fight. "We're gonna lick this thing, you & I," she
promises. The lights dim. "What's going on?" she wonders.

COMPANY: Rog asks Leo via cellular phone whether everything is ready. Leo
says yes, but urges Roger to reconsider. Rog says it's not Leo's job to
question his actions & tells him how much he appreciates all Leo has done
for him. He hangs up. Blake approaches & observes that Rog looks like he
just lost his only friend. She invites him home for dinner, but he says he
has to go see Holly. Blake thinks it's bad timing, so soon after Holly's
return from her trip with Fletcher. Rog says it's just a legal matter &
he's accepted that Holly has chosen Fletcher. Speak of the devil, Holly &
Fletch enter.

BAUER LIVING ROOM: Michelle supplies Eve with a snack, magazines,
telephone, remote control, videotapes & a bell, in case she needs anything
else. Ed arrives & Eve wonders where he's been -- his secretary was very
mysterious. Ed says he had an out-of-town consult. He finds a gift-wrapped
present & Eve says it's for Peter. Ed doesn't want to go to the party, so
they convince Michelle to go instead. She leaves & Ed tells Eve about his
visit to Dr. Peters. Eve is upset that Ed went behind her back. Ed
reassures Eve that Dr. Peters is on her side & now has the FDA's approval
for the drug trial. Eve is thrilled that Ed is now on her side as well.
"What about Rick?" asks Eve. Ed thinks Rick may change his mind when he
hears what Ed learned from Dr. Peters. He assures Eve that he loves her &
trusts her.

COMPANY: Rick calls someone named Jimmy & learns that a match has been
found for Eve's bone marrow transplant. He promises to meet they guy at
the hospital shortly, then cheers to himself & runs out.

Fletch asks Ben about the gizmo he's holding. It's a cockpit yoke
simulator & Alex gave it to Ben. Seeing the look on Fletch's face, Ben
remembers that he wasn't supposed to mention that. "Does this mean I have
to give it back?" Fletch says they'll discuss it later & sends Ben & Bill
off to do their thing. He wants a word with the Dragon Lady, and leaves
over Holly's protestations, promising to return shortly.

Blake fills Rog in on the latest with Dinah, but he's not really
listening. Instead, he's willing Holly to look at him.

On the porch, Van asks why Matt won't talk to his dad. Matt says Sean just
wants something. Matt's not sure what it is, but the "tragic truth about
Sean Reardon" is that he always has an angle. Van suggests that maybe he's
changed, but Matt doesn't buy it. He asks whether Maureen ever talked
about Sean. Van says yes, & she always got the impression that Mo liked
him. She urges Matt to give Sean a 2nd chance & asks to meet him. "Trust
me, you don't want to," Matt replies. Van says he made Matt, so he can't
be all bad. Matt says he'll talk to his dad 1st & see what he's up to.

In the kitchen, Jet has just finished giving her dad the house tour & he
praises her work & success as a businesswoman. Matt enters & Jet brags
that Pop thinks she's "done good." With a smile, Sean says she's not
surprised; Matt was always the black sheep of the family. "Baaa!" Matt is
not amused & says his dad has never done an honest day's work in his life.
Sean thinks Matt is just a chip off the old block, knowing how to charm
people, especially women. Matt doesn't want to be lumped with his dad. Jet
begs them not to kill each other while she fetches Peter. Thunder sounds
in the distance.

Matt demands to know why his dad has chosen this particular time to
descend on Springfield. Sean wants to know about Matt's fiance -- why a
woman like her would be marrying his son. Matt asks how his dad found out
he was engaged. "It was supposed to be a secret?" asks Sean. "For you,
yeah," Matt answers. Jet enters with Peter & Sean coos over his grandson
briefly. He asks again about Vanessa & Jet pipes up with all the pertinent
data, including that Van's in the next room if he wants to meet her. Sean
would be delighted. He pats Matt on the shoulder, praising his good work.

Van enters, in search of an ice cream scoop. Sean sings a silly song to
Peter. Van is impressed, because Sean just made the song up on the spot.
He hands Peter back to Jet in order to shake hands with Van. He pours on
the compliments & she notes that he's every bit as charming as Maureen had
told her. "God love her; the sweetest woman that ever was," Sean says
sadly. Matt watches the exchange stonily.

CROSS CREEK: Josh suggests the power outage might be due to a storm, but
Annie says it's very calm outside. "Reva can be very mischievous," notes
Josh, and the lights come on. Annie insists it's a coincidence. Annie
feels the cold air. Josh says he's felt that before. Annie sticks her head
up the chimney, looking for a draft. She thinks they're both going crazy.
Josh says once Annie sees Reva, it won't be so hard to believe. Annie's
rather dubious about the ghost thing; Josh doesn't know if she's a ghost
or some kind of "wrinkle in the space-time continuum." Annie wants to see
something move or hear moans & groans. "That's not her style," shrugs
Josh. Annie looks all over the room, trying to find something to explain
the phenomena she has experienced. She starts asking tons of questions,
including whether Josh has been seeing Reva for a long time.

He says it's a fairly new occurrence & Reva follows him around. He came to
Cross Creek to get his head together. He circuitously tells her that he
1st saw Reva shortly before they went to the Springfield Inn. "She's
jealous of you," he explains. "You are driving her crazy," he adds. Annie
asks about Josh's previous relationships since Reva's death & he says Reva
has claimed responsibility for ending all of them, but she must feel
particularly threatened by Annie. Annie is incredulous. It's not exactly
like she & Josh have a perfect relationship. Josh thinks that's just the
point; he & Reva had a very volatile relationship too. "I refuse to be
cast in the Reva Movie," says Annie. "I will not be a remake of Reva."

JOURNAL: Tangie & Alan enter. He asks if she's all right & she insists
that she's fine now that she's on the ground. Alan apologizes for the
disastrous date & promises to have it out with the "person responsible."
Tangie tells him not to worry about it -- disastrous dates tend to be
memorable. He would rather the date be memorable for another reason. ;-)
He hopes she'll give him another chance. She says that would be nice. Alan
promises to keep in touch, then leaves.

SPAULDING WEB: Ginger brings Alex a drink & asks whether she's correct in
not setting a place at the dinner table for Alan. Alex isn't sure whether
he'll be there or not. Ginger thought Alan would be out, since she saw him
preparing for his date by lifting weights this morning. Alex maintains
that he might dine at home, so Ginger agrees to set the place, muttering
about how difficult it is to get a proper headcount.

Fletch barges in & reads Alex the riot act for playing mind games with
Ben. He enumerates the many gifts she's given Ben & how he, Fletch, has
kept silent until now, but she's really gone over the line. She's
undermining his attempts to teach his son fiscal responsibility, by making
him think that expensive toys come out of the faucet like tap water. "Are
you done?" asks Alex. Fletch isn't sure. He has noticed "a thin mist of
despertion" hanging about Alex lately. "Is it about us?" He thinks she's
trying to get closer to him through Ben. He apologizes if he unwittingly
left any doors open that he should have firmly shut. He wants her to get
it straight that he & Ben are NEVER coming back to her. "Would that really
be such an unthinkable thought?" she asks.

JOURNAL: Gilly hands Nick a press release about her new job at WSPR. He
says they're lucky to have her & comments on the weirdness of her short
tenure in LA. She agrees & also thinks it's weird that since her return,
Rog has been giving her everything she wants at the station. She thinks
he's been acting oddly, rather resigned, as if he didn't care anymore.

COMPANY: Jet introduces her dad to Rog, who takes Peter. Rog mentions how
much he liked Maureen, & Sean responds in kind. Sean asks about Rog's
business & Rog says he owns a TV station. Jet takes Sean to meet Holly.

Dinah is startled by the clown. She starts to light up & Rog approaches,
saying she looks lovely, as always. She pointedly crosses the room without
a word. Ross asks her not to smoke around the kids & asks what Rog said to
her. He's glad she walked away. "I made a promise to you, Daddy & I'm
going to keep it." They hug.

Sean asks about the rest of Jet's "well-heeled" guests. He spots Ross for
a lawyer & asks about the "sexy-looking dame" with him. Jet points out
Dinah & Blake. Sean dwells on Vanessa's oil company & supposes Matt will
have to sign a pre-nup. Jet just looks at her dad.

Rog plays with Peter & picks him up. Petie keeps insisting that he wants
his truck. Holly watches & listens through the window. Rog doesn't see any
of himself in Peter, but he's glad. Peter won't be anything like his
grandpa -- instead he'll be calm, unselfish, easy-going, confident... He
wants Petie to do him a favor -- when he gets older, he should look up his
father, because it's really important to have a dad. He notices Holly
outside & asks if he can talk to her for a minute. She says she's leaving
as soon as Fletch returns, but agrees to talk to him in the meantime. She
watches Rog & Peter with a small smile.

CROSS CREEK: Annie calls to Reva that she shouldn't make Josh miserable.
"He needs a real, flesh-and-blood woman." She understands Reva's anger,
because her powers aren't enough to let her hold & kiss & make love to
Josh. As she says this, Annie hugs & kisses Josh. Reva appears directly
behind him, but Annie can't see her. "I'm sorry that you're dead, but you
can't keep punishing him." Reve tells Josh that Annie doesn't understand
about them. Annie can't hear her & suggests that Reva go haunt someplace
else. Annie decides she's going nuts because she's screaming at a ghost.
She tells Josh that if he wants a real woman, he can find her in
Springfield. She leaves.

CHEZ SPAULDING: Fletch says no amount of effort on Alex's part will bring
them back together. Alex disagrees. He remembers the fights; she remembers
the passion. Alex insists that she can change, but Fletch doesn't want her
to. He loves Holly. Alex thinks it will never last because Holly is
hopelessly in love with Rog. Maybe so, Fletch says, but he loves her &
nothing will change that fact. Alex wonders why men fall for Holly -- is
it sex? It's love, simply love, replies Fletch.

BAUER HOUSE: It's pouring outside. Ed & Eve are in the middle of a lively
debate. Rick enters & announces the "good news." Eve smiles & asks Ed to
tell Rick their own good news. Ed says the FDA has approved limited human
trials for Eve's medication & tells Rick about his conversation with Dr.
Peters. Rick is not enthusiastic, but Ed says it's Eve's choice. He leaves
them to talk. Rick tells Eve that her life is far more important to him
than her research. He begs her to let him try the transplant.

Eve apologizes for being such a pain-in-the-neck patient. She knows the
transplant is the traditional treatment, but she believes in her research.
She feels it could be the only legacy she has. Rick thinks it sounds like
Eve has given up hope. She says it's exactly the opposite -- she's showing
improvement & she's full of hope. And she doesn't want to go back to the
hospital on her 1st night home. She promises to weigh her options & make a
decision tomorrow. Rick agrees.

COMPANY: Ross asks Blake why she's been giving him strange looks. She
thinks he's unhappy about something & urges him to open up. He admits
there was a problem with Dinah, but it's resolved.

On the porch, Rog tells Holly he's redoing his will & making Blake his
beneficiary. Holly understands. She doesn't want to think about death;
she's very happy now that she has Fletch. Rog asks her to tell Blake good
night & leaves. Fletch arrives & asks what's up. "Don't ask," says Holly,
& they go inside. The clown looks out the window after Roger.

BAUER HOUSE: Ed & Eve tell each other how much they love each other & how
important they are to each other. They cuddle.

CROSS CREEK: Reva thinks Annie is a ninny for talking to her the way she
did. She begs Josh to talk to her. Josh is angry. He tells Reva that he
loves Annie. Reva's face falls.

MANSION: Alex is on the phone trying to find out about Alan's plane as he
enters & hears her says that she knows the plan had to turn around. She
doesn't notice her brother.

COMPANY: Van gets ready to leave & Sean suggests that the Reardon & Lewis
clans all get together. Van says they could do it sometime soon. Sean
warns her that Reardons are very prolific, "so you'd better get that oven
of your ready to go!" He laughs it up & so does Dinah, behind him. Van
shows no expression, but Matt looks ready to puke. Van quickly says a
gracious good-bye & calls Bill to leave with her. She exits. Sean moves to
another part of the room & Dinah approaches Matt. "Like my little
surprise," she asks with a laugh.

Dinah goes into the kitchen, where the clown is at the sink. She supposes
he's taking a moment to get away from the brats. When he raises his head,
sans most of his makeup, Dinah gasps. It's Victor. He pops a balloon &
heads for the door. Dinah calls after him that she's going to tell Roger
he came back. She looks scared.

JOURNAL: Holly & Fletch return to a round of welcomes. They are surprised
to see Gilly, who is on the phone. Gilly learns something that makes her
say, "I'll be right there." She rushes out. Stu enters & announces a car
accident -- a car went through a guard rail on Rte. 27. Possible
fatalities. They found Roger's wallet at the scene.

ROUTE 27: Skidmarks on the ground lead to a smashed & broken guard rail.
Sirens blare and smoke rises from beyond the guard rail as the screen
fades to black.
