IS IT LIVE OR IS IT MEMOREX?

HIGHLIGHTS
* Frank forbids Dahlia from seeing Marcus.
* Viv lays it on the line for Gilly.
* Dinah & Hart bring Rog closer to the edge.
* Holly (without Fletcher!) tries to steer Gilly away from Griff.

A sultry spring evening in Springfield, USA...

DINER ALLEY: Dahlia brings out some trash, then starts humming to herself.
Marcus hears her & stands out of sight, listening.

GRIFFIN'S ROOM: Griffin notices that Vivian is shaking & asks her what's
wrong. "This is so complicated," she says. "How can I do this?" Griffin
takes her in his arms.

PENTHOUSE: Roger meditates over Laura's scarf, then answers the phone when
it rings. Leo informs him that his Peruvian copper futures went bust & the
books are cooked like a Thanksgiving turkey. Hart is listening from behind
Leo's pay phone. Leo says he will bring the books over so Rog can divorce
Dinah & keep all her dough, which is stashed in the Caymans. Rog is
pleased. "I've had enough of Dinah," he says.

Dinah enters, burbling about her purchases, & Rog slams her up against a
wall. "What is this? What are you trying to do to me?" he demands.

Dinah tells Rog to let her go. She doesn't understand why he's so upset
with her again. He asks her about the scarf & says it was Hart's mom's.
Dinah changes tacks & says she's starved & suggests dinner. Rog will not
be diverted. He knows that somehow she got the scarf & the perfume that
Laura used to wear -- Shalimar. Dinah plays dumb & tells him she doesn't
smell any perfume. Of course not, it's gone, he says. Rog says he saw a
woman who looked like Laura wearing this scarf in the park. "It wasn't
her," he says. "Of course not, Laura's dead," replies Dinah evenly. She
suggests dinner again, but Rog yells some more & demands to know about the
scarf. "What scarf?" she asks. This scarf, the one in my hand, says Rog,
holding it up to her. Very carefully, Dinah informs him that he doesn't
have anything in his hand.

DINER ALLEY: Dahlia keeps humming. Marcus echoes her wordless tune on his
sax. They start harmonizing & approach each other.

GRIFFIN'S ROOM: "I have been so unfair to you," cries Vivian. Griff takes
her jacket off & massages her shoulders as he encourages her to open up.
They agree that she's been giving him a lot of mixed messages. "I didn't
want anyone to get hurt," she cries. Griff understands that she's been
trying to balance her love for her family with her love for him & knows it
must be a strain on her. Vivian says she's been trying to control
everything & thought she was so smart. Griff guesses that she's talking
about Charles, but she says he has it all wrong -- it's about Gilly. Griff
looks confused.

CEDARS: Gilly comes to visit Holly, whose hair is looking less Red than
ever. She brings as gift of lullaby tapes & tells Holly she & Griff been
praying for her & Fletch & Meg. Holly thanks Gilly & says Viv has been
very helpful too. Gilly says Griff can't stop talking about how great
Fletch is. Holly says the feeling is mutual. Gilly is thrilled about her
new job with Griff & Holly is happy Gilly got away from Rog & WSPR. Gilly
raves some more about Griff & Holly listens, thinking about what Viv told
her -- that Griff is Gilly's father. "Gilly, he's not what you think he
is," she finally says. Gilly asks why Holly said that.

GRIFF'S ROOM: Griff wonders what anything has to do with Gilly. Vivian
gets all distraught. Griff tries to psychoanalyze her, but he's all wrong.
"I have to deal with this," she insists. Griff promises he won't let her
down. Viv tries to leave, but Griff stops her. "I don't know what is wrong
with you, but you're not leaving here until I find out," he insists.

DOCKS: Hart, wielding a 2x4, looks around, then hides in a corner & pulls
a ski mask over his face. Leo walks by & Hart clocks him with the board &
takes his briefcase.

PENTHOUSE: Rog & Dinah continue to disagree about the presence of the
scarf. Dinah says she understands that he's under a lot of pressure, but
she's been very worried about him since he had that bad dream. She thinks
his past is haunting him. Rog asks about the scarf again & she says if he
wants her to say she sees a scarf, she will. He winds the scarf up as if
he's about to strangle her with it, but she keeps her eyes resolutely on
his face. Threateningly, he wraps the scarf around her neck. She grabs his
hands, frightened. "Tell me now there's no scarf!" he demands.

Rog pulls the scarf tighter & goads Dinah to tell him there's no scarf.
She doesn't break & they are interrupted by Matt banging on the door. When
Rog turns to open the door, Dinah takes the scarf from around her neck &
hides it in her hand. When she sees Matt, she pushes him back into the
hall & slips the scarf in his pocket, while loudly telling him to get
lost. Matt wants to know why Dinah was screaming. Dinah says they were
just having a disagreement. Rog yells at Matt to get out. Dinah tells Rog
to calm down & says she will take care of Matt. They go out into the hall.

Matt thinks it sounded like Rog was trying to kill Dinah. Dinah insists to
Matt that she's fine. Matt knows Dinah & Hart are into a dangerous game
with Rog. Dinah says it won't be much longer & begs Matt not to tell Van,
or he'll blow the whole thing. "Part of the reason I'm doing this is for
her," she adds. Matt says Van wouldn't want Dinah to put her life on the
line. Dinah insists she has everything covered & asks Matt not to butt in.
Matt thinks Dinah's game is getting out of control. Dinah says she only
plays games she can win. Matt wants it to end right now.

CEDARS: Gilly wonders why Holly says Griff isn't what she thinks he is.
Does Holly know something about Griff? Holly just knows him as Fletch's
friend. She talks about how celebrity draws people. Gilly laughs & says
she is hardly about to believe the media when she writes the press
releases. Holly apologizes for saying anything. Gilly asks for an
explanation anyway. Holly mentions her conversation with Viv & Gilly gets
upset that Viv's been talking about Gilly's personal life. Holly says Viv
has been her friend while Holly has been going through a traumatic time.
They both expressed concerns about their daughters. Gilly reminds Holly
that she's only heard one side of the story. Nevertheless, Holly thinks
she has a pretty good picture. Gilly thinks Viv is basing her opinions on
what Griff was like many years ago & doesn't know what he's like now.

Holly talks about powerful men & how public lives tend to put a lot of
pressure on them, causing their private lives to suffer. Gilly allows that
Griff might have made that mistake once, but maybe he never met the right
person before. "Do you think you might be that person?" asks Holly. Gilly
says she's not thinking along those lines, but her smile belies her
statement. Holly says Viv is just worried that Gilly will get hurt. Gilly
says Viv just can't help meddling.

GRIFF'S ROOM: Griff says if Viv leaves without telling him what she came
to say, she's not welcome back. He won't stand for any more games. Viv
says she hates playing games too. Griff begs her to talk to him. "Go back
to your life," says Viv. "I'm letting you go." Griff says you have to have
someone before you can let them go. He just wants to be with her. Viv
can't. She's caused too much pain. He's free to do whatever he wants.
Griff says he's not leaving town & his life doesn't revolve around her.
She tells him that's what she wants & that's how it has to be. He warns
her not to ever come back & try to play games with him again. "Where will
you go?" she asks. Griff doesn't know. She wonders if he'll date other
women, Gilly? "Get out," he tells her.

DINER ALLEY: Marcus thinks Dahlia's voice sounds more beautiful every time
he hears it. She doesn't like to sing in front of people, she reminds him.
Marcus doesn't mind & neither do the mice. They discuss the relative
acoustics of alleys & warehouses. Dahlia asks about Marcus's dad. Marcus
says Griff wasn't around a lot & he didn't like it. He learned to play to
keep himself company. Dahlia can relate to this. It's like Marcus knows
her. "I'd like to," he says seriously.

Dahlia says she wanted to run away when she first heard Marcus play, but
he played what she wanted to sing. Marcus says it's about breathing the
music together. They agree they were totally in sync. "It's real, it's
honest, it's truthful, it's from the heart," says Marcus. Frank interrupts
by calling for Dahlia from the diner. He asks her to go inside. Marcus
starts to leave, but Frank tells him to wait.

Frank is annoyed because Marcus promised not to tell Dahlia anything about
her mom. Marcus says he didn't, but he thinks the situation stinks. How
can it be better for Dahlia to think her mom doesn't love her than to know
the truth? Frank tells Marcus to leave Dahlia alone & not mess with her
mind. He says there are a lot of girls closer to Marcus's age. "Find one &
leave dahlia alone."

DINER: Eleni tries to convince Dahlia to come with them to Orlando & get a
change of scenery. Dahlia says it won't change the fact that her mom
dumped her. "You can't let it ruin your life," says Eleni. She just wants
Dahlia to be happy & make the best of things. Even if I'm faking it? asks
Dahlia. She feels her mom stole all her choices. Eleni says Dahlia still
has her spirit; no one can take that unless you let them. You could wake
up one morning & find your home burned down around your ears, but you keep
going. She & Frank have both done that. "This diner is full of survivors.
The question you need to ask yourself is whether you want to be one too."
Dahlia asserts that she's not a quitter. That's what Eleni thought. Dahlia
agrees to join them on the trip.

Frank returns & tells Dahlia to stay away from Marcus. He moves from one
thing to another & has a hair-trigger temper that gets him into trouble.
Dahlia is angry that Frank would try to tell her who she can be friends
with. Frank says it's not open for discussion.

ALLEY: Marcus angrily kicks trash around the alley.

DOCKS: Hart tells Leo that he'll have a bad headache in the morning, but
he'll live. Hart takes the files from the briefcase & dumps them in the
water, then sends the briefcase after them. Apologizing to the unconscious
Leo that he has to make it look good, Hart takes his wallet & watch.

HALLWAY: Dinah tells Matt that it doesn't matter what he heard; she has it
all under control. She wants him to go away before he screws everything
up. Matt thinks that's what most abused wives say. Dinah assures him she
is no battered woman. "I don't let someone abuse me without making him
pay." Matt doesn't want her to pay with her life. Dinah says Rog can't
hurt her. Matt wants to help with the plan or take her away. Dinah refuses
both offers. Matt says he can fix it so Rog won't give her any more
trouble. She says he's the only one who's causing trouble. Matt says he's
going to call in 1 hour & if everything doesn't sound OK, he's going to
bust in & take care of Roger. Finally, he leaves. Dinah goes back into the
penthouse, which Rog has turned upside-down. "Where is it?!" he demands.

Dinah says she loves Rog, but she's going to sleep in the living room
tonight. In the morning, she wants Rog to call someone & get help. Rog is
still focused on the scarf -- what did she do with it? She reminds him
there was no scarf. He insists that she felt it around her neck. "I felt
your hands around my neck!" she replies. She returns to the subject of
getting him help, but he's not interested. She's concerned because this is
the 2nd time he's tried to hurt her. She says she'll be happy to pay for
whatever he needs & stand by his side. Rog is more concerned with Leo's
lateness. Dinah smiles to herself.

CEDARS: Holly says Viv is just concerned about Gilly & loves her very
much. Gilly says her mom is a master-class meddler & Holly doesn't know
her that well. "Maybe she has a good reason," mumbles Holly. Gilly says
she's so angry, she has half a mind just to throw herself at Griff to
spite Viv. "Don't do that!" interrupts Holly. She says Viv is doing it out
of love & not for her own pleasure. Gilly finds this hard to believe.

GRIFF'S ROOM: Viv wants to know about Griff & Gilly. Griff refuses to play
her game. He says they will now go their own separate ways & everything
between them is over. Viv looks stricken. "Do you think I can live that
way?" she asks. She turns on her charm & says she's been lying all night.
She can't be near him & pretend she doesn't care. Griff is totally
baffled. Viv kisses him.

Griff pulls away & Viv begs him not to stop. "Are you sure?" he asks. She
kisses him again in answer. Then she starts unbuttoning his shirt, staring
deeply into his eyes. He unbuttons her jacket & kisses her on the neck,
then lowers her onto the bed & kisses her again.

ALLEY: Moodily, Marcus plays his sax. Up in the apartment above the diner,
Dahlia hears him & opens the window. She hums along defiantly, a bust of
Elvis looking disapprovingly over her shoulder.

DOCKS: Rog rushes to Leo's side, asking what happened. Slowly, Leo gets to
his feet. Rog thinks Leo stopped off for a drink, but Leo says he was
mugged. "Tell me all he took was your wallet," begs Rog. Leo says no, he
took everything--the books, the computer, the disks. Rog starts looking
around, as if he's going to find the stuff laying on the dock. Leo says
it's gone. Rog says they'll just go back to Leo's place & get the back-up
disks. Leo says there aren't any. Rog is mightily pissed. "You mean I'm
stuck in this miserable hell of a marriage?!"

PENTHOUSE: Hart calls Dinah & tells her Phase I is taken care of. Dinah
says everything is set on her end too. "Now, onto Phase II," she smiles as
the screen fades to black.
