GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 1995

HIGHLIGHTS
* Rog reveals his plan for winning Holly back.
* Holly removes herself from the competition.
* Confronted, Dinah confesses to her debt. But that's not the worst part.
* Plans continue for the 5th Street fund raiser.
* Brent & Lucy have a date she'll never forget.

WSPR: Leo (minus the beard, but with his long hair slicked back wolfman-
style) is missing his dinner to meet with Rog. He tells Rog that Fletch is
back in town, but Rog had already guessed this. He asks whether Rog
accomplished his goal with Holly in the interim. Rog says yes, but it will
take a little longer to actually win her back. Leo thinks Rog is way cool
& pledges his support. Roger smiles fiendishly.

FLETCH'S PLACE: Holly has come to see Fletch, but he asks Nick to tell
Holly he's not home (even though she can plainly see him & hear him).
Holly says she's not leaving til he talks to her.

COMPANY: Dinah tries to get her credit cards back from Blake & warns
stepmom that she's in big trouble. Blake retorts that Dinah's the one in
trouble. Matt pipes up that *he's* the one who lifted D's wallet.

Outside, Bridget asks AM if he's heard about their uncle's & Eve's
troubles. AM says he knows. Jet can see that AM is rather down in the
mouth & asks what's up. He says he's just tired.

BRENT'S BACHELOR PAD: Lucy admires Brent's apartment & the view. He says
he prefers looking at her. He caresses her face & says he thinks it will
be a very special night for them.

FLETCH'S: Holly busts in & tries to apologize, but Fletch runs away. He's
halfway up the stairs, but turns around when Holly says she'll stay out of
his hair forever if he'll only hear her out.

COMPANY: Blake doesn't know why Dinah is so upset, since her cards aren't
worth the plastic they're printed on. "They're useless, just like
everything else about you!" AM sticks his nose in & Dinah whines that
everyone's ganging up on her. Blake warns AM to stay out of it. Blake
reams Dinah for lying, cheating & generally wreaking havoc. She says she'd
be happy to give Dinah back her cards & starts tossing them at her one by
one, echoing the messages from the credit machine as she does so: "Retain
card! Retain card! Retain card! Cancel card! Call the police!" Dinah
stands there, humiliated, and lets the cards hit her & drop to the ground.
Blake informs D that people who run out on debts "go directly to jail; do
not pass Paris." Dinah gives up. "Fine, you got me, OK? Now everyone knows
how I messed up. That's what you wanted, isn't it?" Genuinely on the verge
of tears, Dinah asks Blake to just leave her alone now.

DINER: Frank & Carroll enter in search of food. Carroll updates Buzz on
the construction; Buzz updates Carroll on the administrative end of the
fund raiser. Nadine is investigating groups that might be interested in
buying blocks of tickets. A little girl with long red hair enters with
$23.40 that her class collected. Her name is Sarah. She reminds Buzz of
Lucy at that age.

Alex enters with a file of checklists and other stuff that she got from a
professional event planner that she's hired. Nadine tells Carroll how
excited she is about the whole project. She thinks Buzz can really pull
off the fund raiser. Buzz is looking for someone who can type; he wants to
call Lucy, but Nadine says to leave her alone because she's got a very
special date with Brent.

BRENT'S PAD: Brent starts to fix some drinks; Lucy declines & says she'd
rather have a soda. Brent promises that they'll be mostly juice. She says
OK. Lucy is impressed that Brent owns such a beautiful place in such a
fancy building. He admits that the bank owns most of it & the mortgage &
maintenance keep him pretty broke, but he thinks you have to live your
life the way you want to live it & the money will follow somehow. Lucy
says she's not that brave, but Brent thinks she's got what it takes. She
resolves to be "a woman of action" from now on. Brent dims the lights &
proposes a toast to "things to come."

WSPR: Rog pours himself some Jack Daniels while Leo imagines the scene
that will ensue when Fletch comes after Rog for sending him on a wild
goose chase. Ross shows up; he has something "long overdue" to say. Leo
excuses himself. Ross warns Rog to stay away from Dinah. Rog doesn't want
to; he thinks Dinah is delightful. He also notes the irony -- it wasn't so
long ago that the tables were turned. But Rog didn't try to stop Ross from
seeing Blake. Ross thinks Rog is just trying to get back at him & is using
Dinah to his own advantage. Rog sees no advantage to be gained from
befriending a woman with no friends or meaningful family relationships.
Ross wants to protect Dinah from "predators" like Rog. Rog thinks Dinah is
pretty worldly, but assures Ross that their relationship is platonic.

Ross also accuses Rog of hurting Blake by using her birthday dinner as a
way to get to Holly. He wants Rog to leave Blake out of his machinations &
says he, Blake & Dinah are "trying to create a normal family." [hah!] Rog
is not intimidated. He knows the score. There's no love lost between Blake
& Dinah & Ross is not making things better by demanding that Blake be nice
to Dinah "or else." Rog says Dinah is enchanting, but it's no secret that
she's a spoiled brat. Ross says she's got nothing on Blake in that depart-
ment. Rog informs Ross that Blake is the "best thing that ever happened to
you" & Ross is responsible for whatever went wrong in his marriage.

COMPANY: Dinah tells Blake that her credit problems are none of Blake's
business. Besides, charging your cards to the max is the American Way.
"How much?" asks Matt. Dinah doesn't know. She figures Matt will run to
Vanessa with the news. Matt asks how long she thought she could get away
with it. "I thought I had a solution & it turned out to be an even bigger
problem," says Dinah. AM asks what she means. "It's worse than you know,"
she replies. Blake takes Dinah by the hand & says they're going to see
Ross; he's a lawyer & he can help her. Outside, Dinah tells Blake that
she's scared. Blake says it's the only answer. A man in a black leather
coat watches them leave.

Back inside, David asks for AM's opinion. AM doesn't really know. When
they had dinner a few weeks ago, she seemed fine, had her head on
straight. Jet opines that D is a "big, fat liar." AM says you never know
what someone else is thinking, no matter how well you know them.

BRENT'S PAD: Lucy's glass is almost empty. She's laughing & telling Brent
a story about her & Buzz. She asks Brent to tell her a story about his
past. Brent wants to refill her glass first, but she says she's OK. He
says they're not very strong & the night's just beginning. He takes her
glass & they share a soulful kiss. Lucy smiles as Brent goes to freshen
their drinks.

DINER: Buzz asks what time he can expect Lucy back from her date. "Not 9
o'clock, Buzz," Nadine replies. She settles into a booth with Buzz, Frank
& Alex to work on the fund raiser details. Nadine hopes Lucy is having a
great time on her date, which leads Buzz & Frank to comment on how Lucy is
so young & she shouldn't be getting so serious about Brent, etc. Carroll
thinks they should mind their own beeswax. Nadine points out that she was
younger than Lucy when she married Buzz. Alex says you don't have to be
young to make mistakes. Frank says his track record was pretty poor til he
met Eleni. Buzz tells Frank he's the only one there to have won in the
lottery of love. Nadine says Carroll struck gold -- with his late wife.
Carroll doesn't look to happy about Nadine baring his soul to everyone.
But he admits he was & is a lucky man. Buzz thinks some people just have a
knack for loving, but Carroll says it's an acquired skill. Nadine recalls
an old couple in the park that still looked so much in love.

WSPR: Ross doesn't want to discuss his marriage & warns Rog not to use his
daughter against him. Rog thinks maybe something good has come out of
Dinah's arrival -- maybe Blake has finally seen Ross for the "self-
righteous fraud" he is. Ross calls Rog a "father from hell" & asks what
kind of parent would wish his child unhappiness in order to get back at
someone. Ross vows to make sure that Blake & Dinah both find out what Rog
is really all about.

FLETCH'S: Holly reveals that Rog set up the trip to Portugal to get Fletch
out of town. Fletch sends Ben out of the room. Holly is ashamed that Rog
would stoop so low & that it had anything to do with her. She doesn't
blame Fletch for not wanting to see her & she regrets her part in turning
his life upside-down. It terrifies her that he might be right that she
will never get Rog out of her life; that she'll always go back to him.
"Why do you suppose that is, Holly?" asks Fletch. "Is it because you
really love him or because you just don't have the nerve to walk away?"

Holly's not sure if it's love, habit or masochism that keeps her going
back. "We've been fighting each other & loving each other for so long,
it's a little hard to separate all the different reasons, motivations. He
scares me, he excites me, he drives me crazy. Is that love? I don't know.
I do know that I caught a glimpse of the possibility of a different kind
of love with you. And ever since then you have been suffering every kind
of indignity & believe me, what you've gone through so far is the tip of
the iceberg. And I don't want you to be hurt anymore because of me. So I
promise you that I'm going to leave you alone now. And I wish you well. I
really do." She starts to leave. Fletch asks what she's going to do. She
wants to start over. She thinks she needs to be alone for awhile. Fletch
says she's a fine woman & she needs to believe that. Holly leaves.

MARLER HOUSE: Ross leaves a message on Holly's machine saying he's trying
to reach Blake. He wanders around the living room & stares at his wedding
photo. He sees a pair of shoes on the floor & tosses them aside. He
wonders if he was wrong. He hears a noise at the door & opens it, hoping
it's Blake. It is, but she's with Dinah, who rushes to her dad, crying,
"Daddy, I need you!" Blake watches the scene with a resigned expression.

DINER: Carroll suggests a little trip for him & Nadine. She thinks it
sounds nice. Frank comes down from putting Marina to bed. Eleni's upstairs
trying to work without waking her. Frank thinks someday they'll look back
& wonder how they all managed to live in those cramped quarters. Nadine
thinks they should just be grateful they have a roof over their heads. But
she won't miss living with Buzz all that much. Carroll says she can always
get away for awhile by coming over to his rig. Frank says if Buzz can pull
off the fund raiser, he will be Frank's hero for life. Nadine doesn't like
the aura coming from the booth where Buzz & Alex are sitting. It keeps
getting darker & darker.

Buzz tells Alex that he's absorbed all the details he can for one night.
Alex agrees to call it a night. She really wants it to be a big success &
asks him to trust her. He says he depends on her. Alex feels more alive
than she has in months, now that she's working on this project. She has a
good feeling about the future, both hers & the neighborhood's. Alex says
good night & Buzz decides it's late enough to call Lucy. Nadine accuses
him of just wanting to check up on Lucy, but Buzz denies this. He phones.
David answers & says Lucy is out & might not be back until very late.

David & Matt agree that they feel kind of sorry for Dinah. Jet is
concerned about AM & goes out on the porch to check on him. She ruffles
his hair & asks is he's waiting for Lucy. He says he has to talk to her.
"I wouldn't wait for her if I were you. She's going to be out late
tonight," warns Jet.

BRENT'S PAD: Brent & Lucy dance & kiss to soft music. He lifts her in his
arms & carries her to the bed. She stiffens. "Don't you think we need...?"
she asks. Brent says he's got protection. He keeps kissing her, but she
seems tense. He tells her to relax & promises that he'll take care of her.
"I know you want this to be special. The first time's always the
scariest." Somehow, this does not help Lucy relax. He kisses her some
more, but she is clearly uncomfortable, though she says nothing.

MARLER HOUSE: Dinah says she ran up the debts during the worst time with
her French lover/tutor. When he finally called her, she hired a car to
take her to the town where he was. She maxed out one card, so she just got
another & so on. "They make it so easy," she sighs. Ross asks whether she
ever added it all up. She admits she didn't & in fact didn't even know how
bad it was until Blake & her friends "brought it to my attention." Ross
wonders how Blake knew. Blake says she knew Dinah was in debt, & admits
that they "borrowed" her cards to run them through the machine at company.
Ross asks Dinah how much she owes. She doesn't know. He asks for an
approximate figure. 5, 10 thousand? Dinah says nothing. 20? 30? Ross asks
with a growing alarm that he tries to hide. Dinah finally manages to choke
out that she thinks it's more like $50,000. Ross picks his jaw up off the
floor & looks at Blake searchingly. Blake decides to let Ross & Dinah work
this out among themselves. Ross tells Blake that they will talk later.
"Sure," says Blake, with a hint of sneer.

Ross says he can't help Dinah out of this particular bind. Dinah knows;
she plans to talk to Vanessa about it. Ross says they can talk about it in
the morning & suggests she go up to her room now. "I'm sorry," says Dinah
sadly. Ross sits down & sighs. A mean-looking man in a leather coat
watches through the window.

WSPR: Leo returns & tells Rog that Holly just left Fletch's. He wonders
what Fletch's next move will be. Rog hopes that Fletch comes after him
big-time. He thinks it will help him get Holly back.

FLETCH'S: Fletch fills Nick in on his convo w/ Holly. He says it's just
what he wanted. Nick says he saw a different side of Holly tonight. He
thinks Holly really cares for Fletch & was really upset about what Rog had
done. "Holly Lindsey: a new side for every occasion," says Fletch
sarcastically. He's not interested.

COMPANY: Over a game of cards, Jet tells Matt & David that she thinks AM
is waiting for Lucy & is still hung up on her. Matt thought that pair was
history. Outside, AM broods impatiently.

BRENT'S PAD: Brent's hand moves up Lucy's leg as he continues to kiss her.
She returns his kisses, while at the same time trying to push him away
somewhat. She asks him to please wait. He keeps going. "Brent, no," she
implores. "I love it when you talk like that," he says. "You turn me on so
much. This is going to be good." Lucy murmurs, "No, no..."

COMPANY: AM goes back inside & borrows the phone. He calls Lucy's number &
gets her machine. He leaves a message saying that he has to talk to her
about something important & it's not business." Interspersed with the
phone call are shots of Brent pulling off Lucy's belt while she tries to
push him away & kind of whimpers. AM asks Lucy to call him when she gets
home, no matter how late it is.

BRENT'S PAD: Lucy is down to her camisole & she continues to try to push
Brent away. She tells him to wait; she's changed her mind. He tells her to
just relax & it will be fun. She begs him to please stop. She says no.

COMPANY: AM looks troubled.

BRENT'S: Lucy continues in her efforts to get Brent to stop. "Stop, stop,"
she says, practically in tears. He doesn't. Lucy cries out,
"Noooooooooooooooooo!" The camera freezes on her anguished face, but her
cry lingers on, ending in a sob, as the screen fades to black.
