                     GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE: RealTuesday 3/11/97

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Michelle's party date turns her down
- Buzz and Jenna argue; Buzz has a moment with Coop
- Alex searches for the document
- Amanda gives Alex an ultimatum

PARTY AT CASA BAUER: The guests are mingling; J no dot is apprehensively
looking up the staircase, and Marcus and Dahlia return. Marcus looks around
with a surprised look on his face, J no dot takes another slug of beer.
Dahlia explains that they thought they should come back. Dahlia wonders
where Michelle is, and J tells her she went upstairs. Dahlia starts to head
off after Michelle; J peevishly tells her that Michelle doesn't want any
company because she went upstairs with a guy.

Michelle is giggling outside the door to her bedroom, and kissing the
college dude (sorry I haven't caught his name yet). Chelle apologizes about
her (darkened) room being a mess, and college dude says it's nothing
compared to his dorm room. College dude (CD) reclines on the bed and takes
a swig from a flask. Chelle starts unbuttoning her sleeves; CD invites her
to lie down, Chelle turns on the light and her boom box (sounds like Anita
Baker) saying she's fine. Chelle goes over to the bed and sits down. CD -
now standing - tells Chelle that she's a knockout. Chelle is a bit
disbelieving. CD can't believe she doesn't have a boyfriend, she gives him a
funny look, then CD asks flat out if she has a boyfriend. She did, but she
doesn't anymore. CD is glad because he wouldn't want to be kissing someone
else's girlfriend. He leans in to kiss Chelle. They recline into their kiss.

THE FIREHOUSE: Buzz repeats that Henry is his son, then wonders if this is
another of Jenna's lies. Jenna tells him that it's not a lie, and it's why
she came back to SF. Buzz grabs Jenna by the shoulders and repeats that
they have a son, then hugs her.

ABBREVIATED LIGHTHOUSE TWIRL

Jenna seems relieved. She tells Buzz what a beautiful child Henry is,
sometimes shy, what a great personality. Buzz looses it and gets angry that
Jenna is telling him about *his* child. Buzz is angry because he should
know all these things, he should have been there because it was his right.
Jenna starts to cry again; she wanted to tell him, but she didn't think he
would want them. She tried to tell him many times; she explains about the
first day in the diner when she wanted to tell him, but Reva came in with
the kids. Jenna was afraid to tell him then because she didn't want to
spoil things for Buzz and Reva. Buzz interjects wondering why she didn't
tell him two years ago. Jenna didn't think they had a chance, and Buzz
agrees that if she was going to keep the baby away from him then they
didn't. Buzz goes off on her: you didn't think, you didn't understand, well
what about me? It was my baby! Jenna apologizes; Buzz re-caps all the things
that have happened and tops it off with finding Jenna in Jeffrey's hotel
room. Jenna says she only went to tell Jeffrey that she wanted out. Buzz
grabs her again, and yells that she would have left again if he hadn't shown
up. Jenna looks heartbroken.

(THANK YOU OIL OF OLAY FOR THIS PORTION OF GUIDING LIGHT)

PARTY ON DUDE: Marcus is reassuring No dot that he probably missed Chelle
coming back downstairs. No dot is sure Chelle is still upstairs. Dahlia
knows she'll come back; she wouldn't miss her own party. Someone walks by
and steps on Dahlia's foot; she yelps and Marcus goes ballistic on the
offending party guest. J wanders over and starts up the staircase.

CHELLE'S BOUDOIR: Chelle and CD break the lip lock and he tells her again
how beautiful she is. Chelle looks strange and CD asks why. Chelle tells
him it's his eyes; he reminds her of someone. (Editorial comment: this guy
really does have the Zach eyes - large and gray-blue. In fact, this guy
could be Zach's short, stocky brother.) They kiss again briefly, and CD
takes his shirt off. Chelle jumps off the bed and says things are going a
little fast. CD says they're both adults and know what they want. CD goes
on to expound that life is unpredictable and they could both be dead before
they're 20. CD comes up behind her and tells her not to throw away any
opportunities. Chelle starts to question, and CD wants to know if she's a
tease. Chelle says she isn't and they kiss again. Chelle says she's a
little nervous, and CD says not to be: it's not like it's her first time or
anything. CD has protection and will take care of everything. They head
back to the bed. CD is glad he made it to the party; then he talks about
fate bringing them together. CD tells Chelle she's not like other girls her
age; she's smart, sophisticated and in a gorgeous package. CD starts to
unbutton her shirt; she interrupts and tells him she's never done this before.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex enters the study and immediately notices that the
bust is gone (the head is still on the desk). She gets panicky and dumps a
trash can on the desk searching for the document then yells for Nettie.
Nettie apologizes; Alex wants to know who was there. Nettie tells her that
Miss Amanda called her to clean up the mess; Alex looks stricken.

SPAULDING BOARD ROOM: Amanda is sitting in the half lit board room looking
at the birth certificate. She's wondering how this could happen, then looks
up at Brandon's portrait on the wall. Amanda realizes there is only one
person who can tell her what happened; she goes to the phone and places a
call to the overseas operator looking for Jennifer Richards in Paris. The
operator can't find any listing. "Well, thanks for nothing Mother!" Amanda
walks over and stands in front of Brandon's picture, and asks if he thought
it would be funny, a joke, and wonders if everyone got a good laugh. It
wasn't bad enough that she didn't know who her real mother was, the
punchline was that she wouldn't know her real father. Tearfully, she tells
the picture it was really funny and then calls him a deuce. The nightwatch
man is standing in the doorway; he overheard the last comment and tells
Amanda she isn't the first one to call him that.

THE FIREHOUSE: Jenna wants to know why Buzz won't give her the benefit of
the doubt. Buzz is really yelling, slams the chair and says because he's
done it too many times before. This time she has really outdone herself.
Jenna is crying and saying how complicated things were. Buzz (incredulous)
can't believe it was too complicated for him to know that the woman he loved
was having a baby. Jenna reminds him that he was committed to his family and
Nadine. Jenna starts to get mad too and asks Buzz how she was supposed to
know what to do! Fade out on Buzz' disgusted look.

HALFTIME

Return to the Firehouse: Buzz is silent and Jenna tells him fine, don't
talk to her. She tells him how hard it was to leave, that she was terrified
to be alone. She wanted to come back and tell him. She knew what a great
father he was from seeing him with his grown children. Jenna wanted that
for their child; Buzz doesn't think she did enough to give it to him. Jenna
reminds him that he was committed to his family and Nadine - what was he
going to do? Split his time? Buzz thinks he could have managed. Jenna says
he would have broken Nadine's heart, and she knows that Buzz knows she's
right! Buzz is confused because he thought she knew he would have done
anything to be with her; she didn't know. Jenna admits that she came back
because couldn't go on without him knowing. Buzz interjects that she didn't
tell him because of Reva. Jenna admits that it was like the 2nd act to a
bad play - same situation, different person. Jeffrey found her, all her
plans unravelled, everything was wrong and she had hurt Buzz. She asks if
he'll be able to forgive her.

CHELLE'S BOUDOIR: CD gets up; Chelle admits she probably should have told
him earlier but she didn't know how far things would go. CD is incredulous
that she's really a virgin. (oh, just got his name - Brad) Chelle tries to
convince Brad to stay and make love to her but he's having nothing to do
with it. Brad tells her that the first time is special for a girl, and it
should be the right guy. Chelle reminds him of how he was saying before
that life is short and sometimes you have to take risks. Brad puts his
shirt back on; he says that she would want a committment, and that they are
in different places right now. He leaves. Chelle is devastated and
collapses on the bed crying, "what's wrong with me?"

SPAULDING STUDY: Nettie wants Alex to tell her what to look for. Alex wants
to know if anyone left the room. Nettie explains that Amanda called her to
clean up; Alex confirms that Alan wasn't in the room. Nettie spills that
Mr. Thorpe was in the room on the phone when she came in. Alex runs out of
the study.

OUTSIDE CASA BAUER: No dot is throwing stones off the porch; Marcus comes
out of the house. Marcus points out that in France they won't convict a guy
who shoots someone found in bed with his lover. They then have a brief
conversation about geographical mores surrounding infidelity, ending with No
dot calling Marcus on the custom in Zimbabwe; No dot knows because he spent
a summer there on a dig with his father. Marcus thinks J is angry at Brad; J
denies it because he and Chelle aren't an item. Marcus is disbelieving: "you
sound nothing like the J no dot Chamberlain I know". J says he just woke up
one day and realized he didn't want to end up like his father. They
commiserate about their respective fathers; Marcus calls the conversation
because he doesn't want to talk about it. J goes on to say that he is
really angry about how his father messed up his mother; Marcus agrees that
J's mom is really great. J agrees, then tell Marcus not to tell her or she
will get a big head. J asks Marcus about his mother. Marcus tells J about
his mother showing up at his gigs in Europe. He tells J how beautiful and
graceful his mother is. Marcus laments that he hasn't been able to get his
mom to visit him in SF. J thinks maybe she doesn't want to run into
Griffin; Marcus agrees, but he's sure he'll get her there soon. Marcus
tries to get No dot to come back inside, but he leaves.

CHELLE'S BOUDOIR: Chelle is crying on the bed - enter Dahlia. Dahlia
wonders what's going on. Chelle tries to blow her off - she just wanted to
lie down. Dahlia wonders if Brad hurt Chelle; Chelle says nothing bad
happened, but she wanted it to. Chelle tells Dahlia that she wanted Brad to
sleep with her but he wouldn't because she's a virgin - which makes her a
loser. Chelle tells Dahlia how humiliated she is; Dahlia tells Chelle that
Brad has a girlfriend which only upsets Chelle more. Dahlia tells her when
the time comes to make love she will know. Chelle says she's tired of
feeling lost and like no one cares. Dahlia commiserates that she knows how
it feels...she reminds Chelle that she helped when Dahlia found out about
her mother. Chelle just wants someone to love her. Dahlia thinks it happens
on it's own, you can't pick the time or place. Chelle jumps up and wants to
go back to the party; she buttons up her shirt and runs off.

SPAULDING BOARD ROOM: Amanda wipes her tears and greets Stan the
night-watchman. She says she came to do some work, and he says he will
leave; she stops him and asks him to talk to her. Amanda wonders if he was
working there when her grandfather (she stumbles, then changes it to Brandon
Spaulding) was running the company. Stan remembers him well. Stan tells
her Brandon was great to him, but Brandon was gruff and rough on others.
Amanda asks about Brandon's private life - did he have an eye for the
ladies. Stan admits he did; he observed Brandon entertaining women late at
night. Amanda asks about her mother and Stan says she was very nice and
very pretty, ending up with how taken Alan was with Jennifer. Stan heads
out. Amanda goes back to staring at the portrait and Alex enters. Amanda
turns and Alex asks her what she's doing there so late. Amanda was just
about to ask the same thing.

Amanda faces off with Alex very calmly; she wonders why Alex is there and
Alex points out that she asked first. Amanda is there on late business and
so is Alex. Alex points out that Amanda and Rog left before dinner, but no
one was hungry anyway. Alex is concerned that the couple might have had a
tiff. Amanda says they're fine and Alex hopes they aren't angry about Alex
and Alan taking over the wedding plans. Amanda says it's been a long day but
it's almost over; Alex notices that Amanda and Alan have been getting along
well, and how great it would be to pull together and work as a family.
Amanda spits out: "did I give you a reason to believe that I wouldn't?"
Amanda - "oh we Spauldings, we do a lot to keep it in the family, dont
we?....Sister?" Alex: "Sister?"

THE FIREHOUSE: Jenna is trying to placate Buzz - he wants to hit something
or break something. Buzz won't do anything; he laments that he ends up in
the same place everytime, and that he is tired. He feels cheated. Jenna
understands and will make it all up. Buzz doesn't want to be patronized and
Jenna is trying not to. She wonders if there is anything she can say to him
- Buzz says not a damn thing. Buzz tells her she has everything she wants
in life so she can't know how this feels. Jenna rushes off; Buzz turns and
sees Coop on the stairway.

(attention - first commercial of the break - Frank Beatty Excedrin ad! Is
that strange or what? I haven't seen the FB Excedrin ad on daytime in *months*!)

Buzz picks up little Coop; they sit down and Buzz talks to him. Coops
starts to cry. Buzz starts to read Good Night Moon and he calms down.
(either JD is really good with kids or they did some good editing! that kid
is a handful!) Jenna comes out of the bathroom and sees Buzz reading to
Coop. She looks very happy.

PARTY OFF DUDE: Chelle and Dahlia get back downstairs - everyone is gone
and Marcus is picking up. Marcus tells them that the moveable feast moved
on the the girl's dorm at the U. Chelle moves off to the kitchen, and Marcus
quizzes Dahlia - Dahlia says it's o.k. Chelle comes back saying she doesn't
need help cleaning up and sends them off. Chelle sits down on the couch
clutching a pillow and starts to cry again.

SPAULDING BOARD ROOM: Amanda (still in the half dark room, somewhat backlit
from the windows) tells Alex to leave town. Amanda promises a firestorm,
and if Alex stays it will swallow her and burn her to a crisp; Amanda will
do anything to make sure it happens. Amanda tells Alex that if she leaves
now, she will be able to salvage some semblance of a life, but if she stays
there will be hell to pay. Alex walks silently by Amanda. As Alex leaves,
Amanda looks over her shoulder, then takes a seat at the head of the
boardroom (on the left side).
