GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 1997

                      PATERNAL PURSUITS

Directed by John M. O'Connell

Highlights:
* Buzz discovers that Jeffrey paid a visit to Jenna.
* Jenna tells Jeffrey she won't go back to him.
* Roger convinces Amanda to stick with the partnership.
* Annie tries to befriend Amanda for Alan's benefit.
* Josh moons over Reva while she tries to keep him at a distance.
* Buzz buys a giant clue from Alan.

FIREHOUSE: Buzz & Jenna make small talk. Buzz finds a gold bracelet on
the floor & guesses that Jenna had company while he was out running
errands. "You weren't going to tell me, were you?" he asks.

ROGER'S SUITE: Roger says he's going to keep his promise to help Amanda
get control of Spaulding. She wonders if she wouldn't be better off on
her own after the mess Rog has made of things. She's not sure she wants
to work with someone whose mind is on other things. Rog says he's
working on finding Alex's secret files. Amanda asks how Rog can be so
sure there even are any files. Who is his source? Rog won't reveal, but
claims the source is highly reliable. Amanda says if he doesn't find the
files fast, their partnership is over.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex checks the hall, then pulls her secret document
out of its hiding place in Brandon's bust. She flicks a Bic, ready to
burn it, but stops when she hears voices. She quickly returns the
document just before Alan & Annie walk in. Alan asks what she's doing.

REVA'S HOUSE: Reva answers the door. It's Josh, stopping by to see how
she's doing after learning all about her sister. Reva doesn't want to
talk about it & says there's nothing he can do. "Just try to get rid of
me," he replies.

Josh thinks he knows how to find Reva's sister. "What about Annie?" asks
Reva. Josh can't keep showing up at her place unannounced. Josh says
he's there to pick up the kids. Reva calls this an excuse, as opposed to
a legitimate reason. Josh says he's helping Reva not just for her, but
for Sarah, who he loved like a mom. He asks if she has any photos of
Sarah from around the time the baby was born. Reva retrieves her box of
old family photos. Josh flips through them, explaining his strategy.
They will bring the photo to the Journal & ask Holly & Fletch to run it
& put it out on the wire for other papers to pick up. Maybe Reva's
sister will see the photo & recognize it, and contact Reva.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex says she's trying to get a smudge off the bust.
Nettie is really falling down on the job. Alex confirms that their
dinner with Rog & Amanda is still on. Indeed it is, says Alan. They may
have to up the stakes, though. Alex asks Annie if she'll join them.
Annie starts to decline, but Alan tries to talk her into it. Alex
departs. Annie doesn't want to jeopardize her marriage anymore. Josh
wasn't too thrilled to hear she hadn't quit her job. Even though Reva is
wrapped up in her search for her sister, Annie still needs to spend time
with Josh, to get him to fall in love with her again.

Alan wants Annie to find out Amanda's true feelings about marrying Rog.
Annie's not so sure Amanda will open up to her, but she agrees to try.

ROGER'S SUITE: Amanda says if Rog had been paying attention to business,
he wouldn't have screwed up & made them both look like fools in front of
her family. Rog thinks Amanda is really upset about Holly, but Amanda
denies this. Rog is sure that once he finds the file, all their problems
will be solved. Amanda's skeptical, since Rog doesn't even know what's
in the file. This is true, but Rog knows the contents are guaranteed to
bring the Spauldings tumbling down. That's why Amanda needs him. Amanda
would be more likely to buy this if Rog's focus wasn't split. Rog denies
that it is. Besides, says Amanda, Blake's twins are her own problem, not
Rog's. Rog angrily tells her to lay off Blake.

Amanda won't put up with Rog yelling at her. She's losing patience
because nothing's happening. Rog thinks she'll feel differently when
she's sitting in the president's chair, deciding whether to make Alex a
cafeteria cashier or her secretary. This makes Amanda smile. Rog thinks
Alan would make a great maintenance man. He helps Amanda with her coat &
says if he doesn't deliver as promised, she can toss him out. But if she
dumps him now, she'll be ending a great alliance. He puts on his jacket
& encourages her to smile to show her family how happy they are
together. They head out to join the Spauldings for dinner.

FIREHOUSE: Jenna takes the bracelet & admits she wasn't going to tell
Buzz that Jeffrey stopped by. Buzz thinks Jeff dropped the bracelet on
purpose to let Buzz know he was there. Jenna doesn't think so. She says
he was only there a short time. Buzz wants to know why he came by, &
guesses that Jeffrey was already there the first time he came back from
shopping, which is why Jenna was all out of breath & sent him out again.
Jenna confirms this. Buzz is none too pleased. Didn't he ask Jenna to
fell him if Jeffrey showed up? Is she trying to screw herself up? Buzz
reminds Jenna of all the horrible things Jeffrey has already done to
Jenna. Jenna reminds Buzz that Jeffrey is her husband. Buzz doesn't want
to see her hurt. He asks her to tell him the truth about what Jeffrey
wanted. She says he wanted her to go back with him, but she told him no.

SPAULDING MANSION: On the phone, Alex pleads with Phillip to come over
for dinner, but he refuses. Outside, Amanda & Rog are about to go
inside. Rog asks her to try to get him some time alone in the study.
They enter as Alex hangs up the phone. Rog expresses surprise that he's
still welcome for dinner after the earlier fiasco; Alex tells him they
didn't take it to heart. Nettie takes their coats & Alex invites them
into the living room. She hands them a list of all the orchestras in the
state & tells them they will need to pick one very soon. Rog says
they'll listen to the music later, when they're alone.

Alan & Annie enter; Alan explains that Annie will be joining them for
dinner. Annie says she's glad to see Amanda again; Amanda can't imagine
why. Annie thinks they started out on the wrong foot & she'd like to
start over. Amanda appreciates Annie's directness. Annie congratulates
her on the upcoming wedding & can't wait to hear about the plans. She
notes how soon May is. The others wander off in search of drinks & Annie
sidles up to Amanda & asks about her gown. Amanda hasn't picked one yet.
Annie offers to go shopping with Amanda & to lend her some bridal
magazines. Amanda says that would be nice. Amanda walks away & Alan
brings Annie a drink & a smile.

REVA'S HOUSE: Reva doesn't want her mother's picture plastered all over
the papers because then everyone would know she had a baby out of
wedlock. Josh says it's the 90s & no one will care. Reva says Sarah was
pregnant in a different era. She was so ashamed & that's why she kept it
a secret. Reva doesn't want to ruin that now. Reva realizes that she
never really appreciated how strong her mother was until now. She wants
everyone to remember the good things about her mom. The Reva/Josh theme
starts playing as Josh stares at Reva. She asks if he thinks she's
crazy. He feels like he's seeing inside Reva's heart.

Reva says she & Sarah didn't always see eye to eye, but their love for
each other always won out & pulled them together in the end. "Sounds
like us," replies Josh, touching her face gently.

They lean in for a kiss, but are interrupted by the kids running
downstairs. Josh tells them to go upstairs & get their stuff together so
they can leave. Shayne runs up, but Marah stares at her parents until
Josh asks her what she's looking at. She says that right now, Josh &
Reva look just like they did in her dream last night. She runs upstairs,
leaving Josh & Reva staring at each other in wonder.

SPAULDING MANSION: Amanda excuses herself & heads into the study to look
around. She hears the door open & thinks it's Roger, but it's Annie, who
wants to clean up the exercise equipment before dinner. She chatters on
about weddings, with Amanda responding "um hm" to everything. Annie
wonders when Amanda & Rog are planning to have kids. Amanda says they
haven't really thought about it. What about a house? Again, they haven't
settled on the details yet. Annie sees Amanda's attention wandering &
asks if there's something she can help her find. Amanda says she's not
looking for anything & excuses herself to powder her nose. Annie looks
like she can tell something is up.

FIREHOUSE: Buzz doesn't think Jeffrey took Jenna's answer too well. She
says she told Jeff she didn't want to be in "the business" with him
anymore, but he told her they made an agreement when they married & gave
her a week to change her mind. She thinks she'll have to go with him;
there isn't any other way. Buzz disagrees.

There's a knock at the door & Buzz thinks it's Jeffrey. He starts
yelling at him before he even opens the door. It turns out to be a
delivery guy. Buzz signs for the envelope & tips the guy. Jenna asks
what it is. "Letter bomb from Jeffrey," says Buzz, tossing it at Jenna.
She jumps back, yelling at him not to joke about something like that.
It's actually a letter & a check from the bail bondsman; the lien is off
the diner, since Jenna didn't jump bail. Buzz says he has to go out &
tells Jenna to stay home with the door locked & not to let anyone in,
especially Jeffrey. He says he won't be gone long. As soon as he's out
the door, Jenna gets her coat, runs upstairs for Henry, & leaves.

REVA'S HOUSE: Reva thinks Josh should stay away from her. Marah almost
caught them kissing. Josh says they didn't do anything wrong or anything
that would hurt the kids. Reva doesn't think she can wait or pretend
that she doesn't love Josh anymore. She can't be with him. "Not yet,"
says Josh.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex thinks they should invite the entire Spaulding
board to the wedding. Alan agrees. Amanda rejoins the party as the
doorbell rings. Nettie admits Buzz, who greets Alex as "cutie." Alan
says Buzz should have called before coming over. Alex protests that Buzz
is one of her best friends. Alan says friends don't bilk friends out of
$15,000 to free their ex-girlfriends from jail. Alex says Buzz didn't
bilk her out of anything, & she was happy to give him the money. Buzz
hands her a check & says they're square now. Alex is glad to hear that
everything worked out OK.

Alan thinks Buzz is a masochist. First he married a woman who was still
in love with her ex; now he's playing protector to a woman who's married
to someone else. Buzz says it's called being human. "You ought to try it
yourself sometime." Alan walks away. Buzz calls after him that it's good
to see him on his feet again. Alan just glares in response.

JEFFREY'S DIGS: Jenna says Henry didn't even wake up when she tucked him
into Jeffrey's bed. Jeff is surprised to see her so soon. She says she
wanted to talk to him sooner than that. He's looking forward to leaving
Springfield with her, but notices she hasn't brought her bags. She says
she's not leaving with him now or next week. She returns his lost
bracelet. She knows he left it there on purpose so Buzz would find it &
confront her with it. He plays innocent.

Jenna thinks Jeffrey was trying to drive a wedge between her & Buzz so
she would be desolate & desperate, like she was when she first met him,
and would have to go with him. She says she will always be grateful for
the way he helped her, but it's been more than two years & he has no
right to bind her to him anymore. Jeffrey disagrees & says she knows why
she has to stay with him. Jenna has a solution so they can both go their
own way. Once her probation is over, they can fly to Zurich together &
split their fortune 50/50. Jeffrey doesn't think so.

Jenna asks what's wrong with her plan. Jeffrey reminds her that when
they started their partnership, they agreed to hide the profits so the
IRS wouldn't catch on to the way they were supporting their lifestyle.
Jenna knows it was Jeffrey's idea to get the safe deposit box in
Switzerland to keep their fortune (and Henry's future) safe. Jeffrey
says in order to get the cash, they both have to be there & submit to a
fingerprint match. Jenna sees no problem with this. Jeffrey reminds her
that they agreed not to touch the cash until things cooled down. He
thinks it's very dangerous to go now. Jenna's willing to take the risk.
Jeffrey says if the IRS catches on, Henry could lose all his money & so
could they. Jenna says if he really believes that, she'll have to think
of something else. But she's not going back to him.

REVA'S HOUSE: Reva & Josh look through her pictures together. There's
one of the first time they went skiing together. Josh asks where she got
the photos. Reva says when she came back to town, Rusty & her mom sent
her lots of photos. It made her feel like she hadn't missed so much.
They laugh over their big hair. Reva feels like she's on "This is Your
Life." Josh says it's *their* life. "Our old life," corrects Reva. Josh
says it will be their life again one day.

Josh asks if Reva plans to return to Chicago. She does. He wants to go
with her. Reva's afraid of what she will find, after learning about her
sister's awful past. She thinks it was better that Sarah didn't live
long enough to know what happened to her little girl. Reva wishes she
had known sooner, so she might have done something. What if it's too
late? Josh is sure they will find Reva's sister & that Reva will be able
to help her. Reva doesn't look so sure.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alan joins Annie in the study. He rants about "that
cockroach," & Annie thinks he means Roger, but he's talking about Buzz.
Alan doesn't know why Alex stays friends with him. Annie thinks Buzz is
a nice guy & that Reva treated him shabbily. "You're not the only guy
she stuck it to," she says, by way of trying to make Alan feel better.
Alan denies that Reva "stuck it" to him. Annie knows Reva is the real
reason that Alan wants to help Annie keep her marriage together. He
doesn't want Reva with Josh any more than Annie does. Alan refuses to
admit to this. Annie thinks it's sweet that Buzz is helping Jenna out.
Alan doesn't want to talk about either of them. He wants to know how
things are going with Amanda.

Annie says something is definitely going on with Amanda, but she doesn't
know what. Amanda just doesn't seem like a normal bride-to-be. Annie
doesn't see a lot of anticipation for the marriage. This is just what
Alan suspected. Annie thinks he'd be glad to find out Amanda doesn't
really love Rog. Alan says it's good news that Amanda hasn't completely
lost her mind, but it still doesn't explain why they're together.

The phone rings & Alan answers. It's someone from Chicago. He asks how
things went. After he hangs up, he tells Annie that Reva bought the
whole story at Simon House. But she wasn't alone. Josh was with her.
Annie goes into panic mode. She worries that Josh is with Reva right
now. Alan tells her to pull herself together & join them for dinner. He
leaves & Annie grabs the phone.

REVA'S HOUSE: Josh puts on his coat & thanks Reva for letting him help.
He knows they can't be together the way they want right now, but it
won't be long. Reva says nothing.

SPAULDING MANSION: Annie calls the nanny & asks where Josh is. She
learns that he went to Reva's to pick up the kids. After she hangs up,
she starts getting hysterical. She grabs her coat & practically throws
the wheelchair across the room. It crashes into the stand with Brandon's
bust. The bust topples, and the hidden document winds up laying amidst
the rubble.

JEFFREY'S DIGS: Jeffrey pours a drink that Jenna refuses. He says they
have a deal & she'll have to get used to it. He's not letting her go.

SPAULDING MANSION: Alex & Buzz are having a pleasant chat in the living
room. Alan enters & announces that dinner is ready. Alex departs, while
Alan offers to walk Buzz to the door. Buzz says he was just going to
come give Alan a big kiss good-bye. Alan says every time he sees Buzz,
he wonders what he will do next to screw up his life. Buzz appreciates
Alan's concern, but doesn't think it will happen. Alan is sure it will,
based on past history. "Loser" is written all over Buzz's face.

Buzz says Alan just doesn't get it. He doesn't have love & he doesn't
have a real family. "Speaking of real family, I suppose Jenna has told
you about being pregnant when she left Springfield two years ago,"
comments Alan off-handedly. Buzz says she didn't mention it, because she
wasn't pregnant. Alan says Buzz is wrong. Not only was Jenna preggers,
says Alan, "but she was carrying your child." Buzz turns toward Alan
questioningly as the screen fades to black.
