GUIDING LIGHT TOO BAD IT'S MONDAY
    (OR TUESDAY) UPDATE FOR 3/18/96
                 0R
Who Really Loves You Baby in S'field Day

TBIMOT HIGH (OR LOW) LIGHTS:
[Podperson]FLETCH bids a fond farewell
   to BEN
FOLLY gains a daughter, loses a son
JOSH learns of the RUZZ tango in Santo
Domingo and takes it out on inert objects
SPAULDING fun and games at the Country Club:
LAME dance and plan their LOWHAD
MADAMDACONDA sees glimpses of her past
ALAN cuts out to REVABENT and returns
   ready to rave
ALEX and HAWK yuk it up in LaLa Land

After doing three of these in a row, I am
now going to be joined by two other updaters:
Paulette Goldweber, who was partnered with
me before (she is going to be an able defender
of Lucy and AM and if the wedding is not on her
update day, I think we should give it to her) ;
and Judith Lanoue. I realize what a big job the
weekly updaters go through, and I am glad to get
some help.

During Half-time of ATWT I caught the following
promos:
Gold promo #1
"The burning thought that keeps you up all night"
[cut to dark haired broad in slinky slip tossing on
satin sheets, b&w: I guess she is the generic GL
watcher according to TPTB; what no couch potato in
Iowa?] Cut to Reva in black on a chaise lounge, feet
in air, gold background. Reva standing fooling with
gold lame scarf. Cut to Dinah twirling in black and
white dress. Cut to Marcus, then M. and Dahlia, then
D. blowing out candle. Cut to Rog in gypsy vest breaking
gold ribbon. Di refusing Hart's kiss.
"What will be revealed when the Light comes on." [Lady
turns on lamp in her bedroom]. Cut to Rog laughing evilly.
See the Light--GL marquee.

Gold promo #2
This is voice over interspersed with gold stuff and shots
from show. Voice: "Reva's latest plan." Rev: "It was a lie
Josh. I don't love you." Rev in black trailing gold scarf.
Voice: "Built on deception." Rev: "Buzz and I are married."
Shot of Josh looking pained. Reva comes though door. Cut to
Ruzz: "Josh is back where he belongs, with Annie and the kids.
Voice: "And regrets." Cut to tearful Rev: "I've really done
it this time. I've given him up for good. What have I done?"
Cut to Reva, sinking to floor, gold background.
Voice: "Is it all about to backfire?" See the Light--GL marquee.

That is more or less the promos on Monday. Have seen a later
one regarding gaslighting Rog. Can't wait for the "sexy" J
one to show up.

Let the Show Begin

Fun and Games at Follybend:
Holly is babbling about redecorating. Barbara (yeh, she's out
of the bedroom) is assuring Fletch this is normal. Fletch isn't
so sure since "this is a former award winning publisher who's
turned into a Donna Reed wannabe faster than Father knows best
can read the paper." [LOL--is that Reed or Reade?] He explains
that Hol has reorganized his closets into outfits, and only
French guys wear outfits [and don't forget their purses too!]
Barb thinks he is overreacting.

Suite in LaLa Land:
Alex is letting herself into the expensive suite Hawk has rented.
Hawk is holding court to three beauties and assures them that
"I'm not producing your run of the mill women's prison movie."
Whoops, he spies Queenie and goes to smooze his "backer."
Hawk: "Babe, you're looking fab to the max."
He has added an earring to his ensemble and still sports the
chains and shades. Alex threatens him with a fraud charge, but
Hawk counters that you might as well lock up half the town. Alex
tries to fire him, but he claims to have the goods on Mandy.

Spauldings at the Country Club:
Mandy is counting her chickens. She can hardly wait to see Alex's
face when she is confirmed as Exec VP. She notices that Alan is
distracted. His mind must have wandered to Revashayne. Alan
confesses he doesn't know what Rev is up to.

Cut to Revabent:
Buzz repeats his great line about unhanding his wife, just in case
that basketball break made us forget. Josh tries to blow him off.
Reva tells Josh that there is no us anymore.

TWIRL LIGHTHOUSE

Jeva at Revabent:
Josh tries to tell Reva there will always be an us.
Reva: "Save it for Annie cause she eats that stuff up."
Josh sputters and tells her he knows all her tricks.
Reva informs him that Cross Creek was payback time ...
"under that armor of self-righteous pride you're really
just a sucker for cheap romance." Josh says he knows
what was in the kiss. Reva says she has lots of practice;
don't forget what she did for a piece of pie. Josh begs
Reva to say that she loves him. Rev isn't going to torture
him because it would only hurt Marah in the end. Instead
of flying off the handle as usual, a thoughtful Josh says,
"You want your children and you want me. Be honest now,
Reva. All our lives depend on it."

Spaulding Hijinks:
Mandy is sure that Alan can win back Reva if he wants to.
Enter LAME. Lucy mentions getting a postcard from Snick and
they toast the newlyweds. Alan thinks they are all one big
happy family. Mandy, with concurrence from A-M, doesn't trust
Alex.
A-M: "Short of locking you in the west wing or giving you
rabies what can she do?"
Alan: "She's had all her shots. I don't think you need to worry
about rabies. I would steer clear of the west wing."
Alan toasts Amanda, hoping she finally gets her due.

Calling Sam Spade:
Alex wants the goods. Hawk tells Queenie to chill; he was just
about to ask the babes when she came. Hawk shoos the bimbos out.
The blonde in red leaves her shades behind and gives him a kiss.
Al tells him speed is important, Mandy is almost VP so "you'd
better show me what you've got."
Hawk: "Please, Queenie. I'm a modest man."
Alex: "Hah." She complains he is spending her money like a "drunken
sheik in a desperate attempt to recapture your youth."
Hawk: "Whoa, I never stepped over that line."
Alex: "You bedded every woman in the whole state of Oklahoma that
was old enuf to drive and not wearing a cowbell around her neck."
Hawk: "Well, some of them gals was full-figured... Well butter my
biscuits, you've got the hots for me."

Nests, Anyone:
Holly wants to redo the attic into a loft for Ben. Fletch thinks
a new lock and earplugs would suffice. Enter Ben, carrying a
tennis racket. Fletch tells him to "remember the words of a
former first lady, just say no." Ben is reluctant and Fletch
assumes it's because he wants to spend the dough on a car, etc.
Ben says he won't get much use out of it. He has been offered
a chance to go to Carleton Academy, a boarding school, this
semester on a partial tennis scholarship. Fletch tries to
blow him off, talking about his new room with skylights, bathroom
of his own, etc. Ben's serious.
[I am reporting this whole convo under protest. This is not the
way Fletch would act. The whole thing is a travesty, but I think
we've already covered that on the list].

LAME Dancing:
Lucy and AM exchange sweet nothings. Lucy doesn't want to smother
him. He can go out with the guys if he wants to do guy things.
Cut to Spaulding table:
Alan gets up to try and find out if his people have located the
Revster. He finds out she is at his house on Oldfields Road.

Oldfields and New:
Buzz puts his arms around Rev, and tells Josh to give it up. Josh
zeroes in on the Marah slip. He wants to know what she is protecting
Marah from. Rev scoffs at the idea she is being noble; he should
ask Harlan, Billy or Kyle Samson about her selfishness. Josh says
he felt in his heart that they still love each other. Rev tells
him to let it go. Josh replies, "Time can't touch what we have,
Reva. Then and now, it's always the same. Strong as ever. Two halves
of a whole. We're each others destiny. We always were, always will be."
Reva: "You really should be writing greeting cards."
Josh reminds her that those were her words on New Years Eve. Reva
says it was all a lie, she doesn't love him. "Trailer trash sticks it
to college boy idiot. Film at 11." Josh tries a different tack: she
really had him going, but they are still married. She shows him
divorce papers.

Half-Time

Back to Jeva Angst:
Buzz shows Josh a copy of the marriage certificate. He tells him
how easy it is to get married and hitched in Santo Domingo. Josh
says he might believe it if it was Alanspaulding, but not this
"clown." Buzz counters, "I was very entertaining on our wedding
night." [Bit of a logistical problem here. How did they have time
for Santo D. without the Spaulding/Lewis jet while it took the
same amount of time for poor Joshie to drive across town in the
Lowhadmobile. Maybe Annie put sugahhh in the tank!] Josh lunges
for Buzz.
Reva: "You can see why he's upset. He settled for Annie. When
he found out he could get me back ... I'd be upset too if I
ordered steak and ended up with MUTTON." LLLLLOOOOOLLLLLL
Josh wonders how she can be so cruel, but Rev claims he and Alan
inspired her. She once again complains about how the rich boys
play by their rules--love comes with more strings than elevator
music. She has been forced to return to her more humble beginnings.
She points out that Buzz loves her--no qualms, no questions. He
accepted her in Goshen as Rebecca and in S'field as Reva. She
liked him when he kissed her in the diner and even more when he
defended her on New Years eve. She tells Josh he satisfies her
in ways he never could, so he should go home to Annie. When
Josh refuses to believe she loves Buzz, she draws him a picture.

Of all the Bogus Writeoffs:
Ben explains to Folly that he has a chance to go to Carleton
on a tennis scholarship. [BTW, has Ben EVER mentioned tennis
before? I remember Phillip playing it, but Ben and Bill always
were doing hockey, basketball, etc.] Ben will be able to be
a counselor at tennis camp in the summer. Holly thinks it's
awful sudden since the baby is almost here. Ben stresses the
great almost free deal he is getting. Fletch sends Hol off.
She leaves, hugging Ben. Fletch asks him what it is really about.
Does he want to get out before his baby sister comes? Ben says
he doesn't feel like he fits in anymore. He wants out.
After some ads, we return to the powwow. Ben thinks it is hard
living with them, and he doesn't know what to do. Fletch tells
him all we can do is sit it out and hope for the best. Fletch
doesn't want him to feel like the baby is moving him out. Ben
claims to be looking forward to having a little sister. Very
abruptly Fletch agrees to let Ben go to Carleton on a trial
basis. Ben goes off to call his friend. Holly comes back and
gives him another hug. She says to Fletch: "Tell me I haven't
cost you your son." [It seemed like to me the actors were
having a hard time with this bogus dialog, and also it was the
last time they would work together. I assume we won't see Ben
off at the station--maybe Fletch might remember to call him when
the kid is born. GRRR]

Another Circus Ride:
Lucy: "Getting married on a ferris wheel? You're kidding."
AM tries to talk it up: minister, doves, sunset, but Lucy claims
she is afraid of heights since her ordeal with Brent on the
Lighthouse. Looking on the bright side like a good Pollyanna,
she says that every moment they spend together is a gift. They
share a big smooch, while Mandy looks over wistfully.
We see a gray haired exec squiring a blonde bimbo. When LAME
returns to the table, AM says he is glad they aren't the only
people making a spectacle. Mandy comments that the woman is a
paid escort. AM wonders how she knows. Mandy changes the subject
to Alan's pursuit of Revashayne.

Revabent:
A tearful Josh wants to talk alone with Reva. He wonders why
Reva made him say that he loved her when they were at CC. Cut
to Alan peering through the door panel. Josh says last time
he ran away. This time he won't. She should look him in the eye
and say she doesn't love him. Cut to outside, Alan is still at it.
After ads, we go back to the lovetorn couple. Rev says she
could have loved Josh again but he always makes her feel like
trash: when he kissed her on Miss Martha's steps, when she told
about the pie, on New Years eve. He called her a two-bit temptress,
the slut of S'field.
Reva: "Whatever hope and love I had died. You killed it Josh.
You did."
Cut to outside:
Alan starts to open the door with his key. Buzz intervenes, and
tells him that Rev is taken. Al buzzes him off as an insignificant
pest. They spar about why they are there, and what moves they were
planning to make. Buzz points out that it looks as though Reva has
made her choice, letting him think it is Josh. Alan gives him the
evil eye, and vamooses.
Buzz goes back in, saying he is tired of spending the honeymoon
on the porch.
Reva: "Go back to Annie. Go back to the kids. Go back and ride
the carousel until you puke. Get out of here. Go now. Get out of
my life. Always is over--those papers prove it."
Josh: "This is wrong Reva. This is as wrong as it gets."
Josh exits. Ruzz exchanges glances.

Mandy's Dream:
The exec and the bimbo are kissy face. Mandy remembers indoctrinating
Misty to the game. We see that the blonde woman in red is the same
chickie who left her sunglasses at Hawk's. AM notices that Mandy is
out of it. Mandy says her life is the best it has ever been. Lucy thinks
it is going to get better and they toast to that.

LaLa Land:
Said bimbo knocks. She forgot her shades. She wants to "audition."
Hawk fiddles with the Do not disturb sign and licks his chops.

Losing a Son:
Fletch serves up some b.s. about Ben. Holly thinks it is because
of the baby. Fletch claims he is going because "it's time for him
to star in his own life instead of being a supporting player in
ours." Hol calls this a reporter's (or McT) spin. They talk
about how much they will miss him, how proud Maeve would have been.
Fletch: "I will lose a son but gain a daughter. My beautiful,
beautiful baby girl." Holly signs, and I want to puke.

Rave On:
Mandy and LAME are yukking it up. Alan returns. He wants to go
dancing. AM wonders about dinner. Al says they can pick up a bite
later. He wants to go "where you Gen-Xers go to rave the night
away." They agree but don't think he will like it. You can't even
hear yourself think. Alan thinks that is perfect.

Who's in Denial:
The LaLa bimbo puts her shades down her front. Hawk has to get rid
of her because of his backer. Alex comes out and tries to fire him
again. Hawk is upset, he thought she was apologizing for leading him
on.
Alex: "Now who's in denial."
Hawk says she can't leave him down and out in Hollywood Hills. Al
suggests he call Darlene, but Hawk characterizes her as a "sunbaked
suckup." He begs for 24 hours. If he doesn't crack the case he will
give up sleuthing and go back to sponging on Reva. Al thinks that
at least that is an honest statement.

Ruzz in Ruins:
A brittle Reva pours drinks and talks about how Josh bought her act.
She put him off by mixing lies with truth. Buzz notes that it hit
Josh hard. Rev says she wanted it, and she is a gal who always gets
what she wants.

Cut to Park:
Josh, who has taken time to don leather gloves but no jacket,
attacks the memorial plaque for Reva with a tree limb.

Back to Ruzz:
Rev is raving about the fact that her babies deserve a happy home and
they can have that with Bud and Annie. Buzz gives her some bubbly
in a odd dark blue wine glass. She thinks Marah can love Annie
without worrying she will lose her. She pleads with Buzz to tell
her that she did the right thing. Buzz thinks what she did was
remarkable: choosing between the love of her life and her children.
He saw it and he still doesn't believe it. Reva really starts
bawling. "I really gave him up for good. Oh my God, what have I
done? It hurts so much. I had him and I lost him." Buzz gives her
a big hug. He tells her that she has him as a friend and husband.
He will get her through this.

Cut to Park:
Josh throws down the branch and sits on playground equipment
and broods. Freeze frame on a suffering Josh.

And That's Not All:
We go back to RedRevaDiva hugging Buzz. We can only see Buzz's
back. Then we have a split screen freeze frame between the unhappy
Josh and the crying Reva holding on to Buzz.

Finis

There were no credits listing writer or director. Mimi's
Maternity got a plug for Holly's wardrobe again.
Attention, class. The Follybent convo with Ben was fantasy
enuf for this week so there will be no imaginary scenario
until I return in three weeks.
