Van/Matt Residence:
Vanessa is crying in Matt's arms. She tells him that she has wanted
to run to him ever since she found out about Henry. The stupid
stuff about Malibu just doesn't matter, all that matters is how much
they love each other. Bing bong. [Your reviewer speculates with
her hubby on who could be calling? Gaping yapping Annie, whining
Di, hysterical Blake--and I mention Amandaconda--no it couldn't be].
Matt wisely wants to ignore it, but Van thinks it might be a friend of
her father's. Cut to the door--it is Madamdaconda. Has that woman
no shame!?! Van and Matt spot her. She mouths some pleasantries about
hoping she's not interrupting. Matt with the right idea tells her to beat
it, she will never bother them again. Mandy tells him that slamming the
door in her face won't help [but it sure would make us all feel good].
Mandy tells Van that ignoring her won't change the fact that her hubby
gave those LA matrons a bang for their buck. Matt tries to shoo her, but
Van thinks it doesn't matter anymore. It's all past history. Mandy says it
will be if they give her what she wants.

Chez Spaulding:
Exterior shot, while we hear Alex's voice: "Well, I thought I was going
to have to hire someone to find you." Cut to the study, Al on the phone
asking where Hawk has been. Cut to Hawk, "Miss Bee Queenie?" Alex
tells Hawk he was sent to LA to get the goods on her niece's sordid past.
Why hasn't he been checking in with her daily?
Cut to Hawk. We see him through a blowing white curtain, palm
trees in the foreground. His excuse is confusion over the time difference.
Al wants to know what he has come up with. Hawk bursts thru the curtains
in all his splendor. He is clad in a swim suit and jacket ensemble, at least
five gold chains, bare chest, shades. "Mellow out, huh? I'm on top of things
here. Smack dab in the right place at the right time." Hawk is hit by a beach
ball, girlish giggles are heard. He exchanges smirks with the unseen lady.

Cedars : ER exam room:
A blood pressure cuff is ripped off. Ed tells Rog his blood pressure is
normal, and his heart rate is almost so. He seems to have made an "amazing
recovery." Rog wonders while he feels like he has a truck on his chest.
Ed doesn't have the answer yet. Rog plaintively asks if Di is still there; he
wants to see her.
Cut to : Cedars Exterior:
Di and Hart are jousting. She orders him to unhand her. Hart tells her that
Rog stole all her money. Di asks if he is mad. Hart again tells her that
Rog has wiped her out. Di tells him to give it a rest--he just had a heart
attack. Hart doesn't think he'll die, at least until he has completely wiped
her out. Hart wonders if she knows how much she has in the bank. Lady Duh
responds, "Not exactly. Millions..." Hart tells her she is down to her
last few grand. Di tells him he isn't her personal ATM machine. She tries
to blow Hart off when he says he has proof, but he pulls her back
wondering if she is going to be "Roger's dupe for the rest of her life,
or come with me and cut yourself a break?"

TWIRL LIGHTHOUSE

There is an interesting promo. The black guy in the trench tells us not to
panic or go crazy, Y&R, B&B, ATWT and GL [pix of Di in black with pearls
twirling around) won't be seen on Thursday and Friday because of NCAA
basketball. (Pix of J with black leather jacket open to waist wearing gold
crucifix and twitching his pelvis in what I guess what is supposed to be a
sexy manner). This is followed by Sol saying Oh-vey (my sentiments
exactly! Credit for this observation go to Sylvi from the Wed. IRC)
We'll be back Monday (cut to CBS Daytime marquee). Judging from the gold
backgrounds of Di and J, I think these are going to be in the new GL promo.

Cedars : Exterior:
Di agrees to go with Hart. Up comes Marcus, wondering where she is going
with this jerk. Marcus is upset that she has played the fool with the Dad
and is now getting messed up with the son. Di isn't buying it. Hinah
leaves, and Marcus goes back in cursing.
Cut to : ER exam room:
Ed is asking Rog if he is on any type of medication, even over-the-counter.
Rog denies it. Marcus is eavesdropping. Ed asks in so many ways, Rog
asks if he is having a hearing problem. Ed says his heart problems seem
to be drug induced. Rog makes a nasty comment about Ed needing a
refresher course.
Cut to : ER outer lobby:
Griff enters the hospital looking for Vivian. He sees Marcus, who fills
him in on Rog's convenient attack. Griff wants to help, and convinces
Marcus that the most important thing is nailing Rog. Marcus and Griff
powwow on what to do.

Spaudling Nuthouse:
Alex (playing with a letter opener that she would probably like to use
on Hawk) says it sounds like he is sitting around the swimming pool.
Hawk is laid out on a chaise lounge being served by a young chickie in
red halter and shorts. She gives him a double latte and addresses
him as Mr. Bocho. Hawk tells her he is talking to his partner about
the part he has promised her. He sends her off to rustle up guacamole
dip. Alex is screaming, "Hawk are you there?" Hawk hits the cell
phone against his chair, and claims that there is a little earthquake
going on. There is a blonde rubbing on sun tan lotion and taking this
in on the chair next to him. Hawk is very pale for LA--he looks sort of
like a beached albino whale. Al wonders what he plans for his next move.
Hawk wants a pix of Amanda, and the name she used in LA. Al doesn't
think Mandy is likely to confide in her. Hawk says she will just have to
do a little digging. Coming to her senses, Al tells him that is what she is
paying him for. Hawk says he can't fly back, he will lose all his ground
work which will go right out with the tide if he leaves the Boo [sp?--
couldn't quite understand him here]. The next door chickie is smiling
and making kissing motions. Hawk hits up Alex for more moolah. He
needs it to spread around. "Money talks and gets people talking too.
Got to spread it around like fertilizer for something to crop up."
Al agrees," Yes, there is a similarity between you and fertilizer..."
He had better come up with results. Hawk says "Faster than greased
lightening. You know me, Queenie." He rises and puts on his shades.
Queenie hangs up at her end muttering how frightening it all is.
She vows to get Amanda, and begins tossing the desk in the study.
[Hey Queenie why don't you hire a real P.I.? Even Faulkner would
be better].

Madamdaconda slithers in:
Mandy realizes there is no sense in waiting for an invite and bulldozes in.
Matt says that she can't bully them since they know she doesn't want her
family to know what happened in LA. Mandy says she is here because
he almost spilled the beans at the wake, and she doesn't want this held over
her head. Matt could care less, but she points out he will be hurt too. She
has given up Ross [don't make me laugh. I don't think this could be called
voluntary]. Van is very self assured, and wonders what else Mandy has come
to say. Mandy cites her new job at Spaulding. Van gives her evil chuckle, and
tells Mandy she is smiling "because of your sudden concern for what's right
and wrong." Mandy replies, "You're a Chamberlain, and I am a Spaulding.
Need I say more?" Van doesn't identify with her in any way, shape or form.
Amanda: "We're not that different, Vanessa. You are your father's daughter
after all and I think we both know that Henry wasn't above a one night stand."
Van launches toward her, but unfortunately Matt holds her back. Amanda
turns up the collar on her fur.
After an ad break, we return to an Amanda taunting Van. Matt is still
struggling with Vanessa. [This is one of the most appalling things I can
remember a GL character saying for ages. I couldn't believe it when
she went there on the day of the funeral--and then to say that. She
truly is becoming a contender in the totally evil sweepstakes]. Matt
tells her he would knock her block off if she weren't a woman (and
he is using that term loosely). He tells her to say what she came to
and get out. Mandy wants strip down to the bare essentials (no pun
intended). She wants to look at things as they are so they won't make
big mistakes. Matt thinks her big mistake was returning to S'field.
Mandy isn't leaving so she thinks they will have to learn to live
together. Van thinks that they hold all the cards. Mandy points out
Ross hasn't revealed what he knows; but Matt thinks he is doing that
for him. They spar and agree they want to get on with their lives.
Mandy says she has a black book which is more than enough to embarrass
them. If they give their word they will back off, she will destroy it.
She won't soil their precious perfect marriage; illusions were her business.
Matt has half a mind to call her bluff, but Van thinks she isn't
worth it. Matt agrees not to tell, and Van tells her it is time to go.
Amanda: "Well, so long. Have a nice life."
Van: "We will. I don't know about you though because I don't
think anybody is ever going to love you."
Amanda: "Hmm. Who needs it anyway." She slithers out.
Matt and Van smile, hug and kiss.

Cedars : Lamaze classroom:
We see a sign for a Lamaze class, 3-5 p.m. Fletch enters telling
Holly he is going to ace this class. Hol thinks it's one thing to
do a dry run on a gym mat; come high water or late breaking news
story he is going to be in the delivery room. Fletch thinks that is
why they invented laptops; he can be at her side timing contractions
while knocking out the news story. By the time she is born, he will
be editing the final draft. Holly teases him that it will happen if he
doesn't faint first. She reminds him that they will be showing slides
of childbirth today. Is he ready? Fletch claims he is Capt. Lamaze
[he does some weird things with his hands, trips and falls into Holly].
Hol wisely sends him off to fly over a gym mat. She looks pretty good
today--her hair is washed and she is wearing a blue and white stripped
top]. She is approached by a 20 something Mr. Yuppie, who is
wearing a brown suit and tie. He asks "Excuse me. My wife and I have a
bet. Have you enrolled your baby in preschool yet?" Holly mutters
about how it seems a little early to worry about that yet. Ms. Yuppie,
a dark blonde in a print dress, Hillary Clinton headband, won't give
it a rest. "If you want to get him/her into the Ivies, you'd better get
on the list now."
Holly has had it; she snaps at them.
Holly: "Excuse me. Our little girl has Down's so we don't have to
worry about Montessori or Harvard."
Mr. and Ms. Yuppie are speechless. They want to be P.C. Gaping maws,
bulging eyes, they look like Annie clones. They stutter, " We didn't..."
Capt. Lamaze returns and sees that Red needs assistance.
"Here's the mat. What's wrong, Red?" She just shrugs.
Fletch sizes them up. Since he too had bought a telescope and Harvard
sweatshirt for Baby Red before he found out, he knew what they were
all about.
Fletch: "You know I have a 13 year old son. He has an earring in one ear,
and went to local Springfield kindergarten. Maybe I should send him to
Choate? Do you think it's too late? If he can't get in, maybe he could
go to the Citadel and fight for equal rights for girls with Down's."
Mr. and Ms. Yuppie's maws sag to the floor. In comes Bessie Milch, R.N.,
their Lamaze instructor. She is blonde and buxom. She looks like every
P.E. teacher you had and hated in H.S. She talks like Julia Child.
Ms. Milch, R.N. : "Good, good, people. See class, Mr. and Ms. Yuppie
are doing so well at their cleansing breaths."
Raise your hands, class, how many believed that this was in McT's script?
No, it is just a fragment of my fevered imagination (with a little help from
Arthur) as I pay way too much attention to this episode.

Back to McT's world:
Ms. Yuppie (yes, they really exist) had just told Holly she better get on the
list now. Holly, looking strained, says she will wait and see what the baby is
interested in.
Mr. Yuppie: "That's at your own risk. It's a dog eat dog world out there."
Ms. Yuppie: "Barry says we owe it to our little boy to give him every
opportunity."
Holly has had it, and excuses herself. Fletch returns with the gym mat,
and asks where she is going.

Cedars : ER exam room :
Rog is opening a pill bottle. He starts to take one, but hears someone
coming, spills one, and hides the bottle in his pillowcase. Griff enters
and says he has heard Rog had a heart attack. Rog isn't too pleased
to see him. Griff does a recap of what he did to Marcus, and wonders
if his brush with mortality has changed him. He decides it hasn't
and is prowling around the room touching the blood pressure cuff,
iv stand, etc. Rog wonders if there isn't a shopping center rally he
should be attending. Griff thinks it would be fun to stir up the loyal
union people who work for Rog's station. Griff sets off the heart
monitor. Ed comes running. There is general bedlam. Ed and an
assistant start to wheel Rog out. Griff's parting words to Ed are,
"He's a good man. Take care of him." Marcus enters and starts
looking for a clue as to how Rog did it.

Hartbreak Farm:
Di tells Hart to forget any ideas of a roll in the hay. She sits on
THE BED. She tells Hart he isn't that irresistible. Hart looks
at her like she's nuts; he didn't bring her there to seduce her.
He owes her because he used her to get back at his Dad.
Di asserts that she used him. Hart produces the folder. It is
such an important document he didn't want to walk around town
with it. Hart thinks it will be hard when she finds out what Rog
has done, on one hand, but good when she finds out what he
has done to her--robbed her blind. He offers her the proof.
Lady Di looks.

HALF-TIME

Cedars : ER exam room:
Marcus finds the pill bottle. Griff comes in and he tells him. He
recognizes it as stuff that was around in the 60's. Guys used it
to dodge the draft. If you took it during the physical, it caused
heart abnormalities and got you classified 4-F. There were
no side effects unless you took too much.
Marcus: "Rog was trying to dodge Court today." [that's
why we call him the Dodger]
Griff: "Clever fellow, this Thorpe."
Marcus: "Clever kind of guy, clever trick--this one is going to
be his last."

Lady Duh on the Farm:
Di declares that the document has too many numbers. Hart tries
to explain the withdrawals from her account, and deposits in
the Caymans. Di wonders where he got this; Rog didn't hand
it over [No kidding, Sherlock]. Di is skeptical--anyone can put
numbers down on a piece of paper. She wonders why Hart is
trying to convince her that Rog is a crook who has taken her
to the cleaners. Hart wonders if it is such a stretch. Rog was
very eager to get her to sign over her assets. Di clings to the
fact that she also had his power of attorney. Hart wonders if she
knows what he started with. Dumb Di says, "No, but I didn't need
to know. He's obviously rich." Hart points out that she just made
him richer. Di vows that she is going to get it back, but Hart is
sure that Rog has made sure that she can't.
Hart: "Roger doesn't make mistakes. Right now he's thinking of
excuses, explanations of how he lost all your money. He's going
to say: 'Honey, I'm so sorry. I made a bad investment. I was trying
to make us both richer. By the way, did Henry leave you any more
money in his will?'"
It finally sinks in that Rog transferred the funds. Di vows that there
is no way she has lost all the money her Grandfather gave her.
It's a mistake; there is no way she is broke. Hart informs her that
she is.

Skullduggery at Spaulding:
Alex is still tossing the drawers. She finds a scrap of paper with
what she hopes is the combination, but can't get the safe open.
Your cue, Madamdaconda. She enters, and wonders if she can
help Alex with something.
Alex : "Ha..."
After a brief pause for a message from our sponsors, Al claims
she was using the scrap to leave Mandy a note. Amanda claims
it is her lotto number. Al is forced to invite her to a little bistro,
but Mandy declines. She is busy preparing for the board meeting.
They spar for a while about her position and the family. Alex exits.
Mandy opens the safe, gets her black book and begins ripping
pages out of it. "Say good-bye to all this." She begins to put the
sheets into a trash can. Alex goes to the peephole behind the
bookcase. [Does it not seem a little odd that Alex would allow
Amanda to comandeer use of the safe without protest? What is
stopping her from getting a locksmith to open it? Doesn't it
seem odd that Amanda would leave such papers at home and
not in a safe deposit box? Doesn't it seem odd she would
destroy the black book before being sure of Matt/Van?
Doesn't it seem like the book would be much more damaging
to her than Matt?]

Cedars : Folly in the Hall
Fletch is trying to find out why Holly is upset. She tells him
that she was feeling good and positive until that couple came
up and started talking about their plans for preschool and college,
and she didn't know what to say. Vivian greets them and sees
Holly is upset. Holly tells her that she told them at the DS group that
they should focus on the positive. It is hard to do at Lamaze when
everybody is excited about their plans for their healthy babies. Fletch
and I don't belong. Viv says this was bound to happen. Holly tells
her that while Ms. Yuppie is worried about Harvard vs. Yale, she has
to worry about whether her child is going to have a heart defect or die
from respiratory failure before she is a year old.
Holly: "How am I supposed to feel? Am I supposed to be happy? Or sad,
maybe said, deprived..." [This almost sounded like the old Holly]
Viv: "Whatever you're feeling is normal and natural. You are facing a big
issue that is going to come up again and again: seeing your little girl
for who she is and isn't, and not apologizing for it."
Viv tells them that this situation will reoccur no matter how resolved they
are. Fetch tries to tell Red they can make it, but she doesn't
want to go back to class tonight. Fletch gets rid of Viv and tells
Holly that it is fine whatever she wants to do, "it's just someday I am
going to have to answer that inevitable question from our daughter and
have to admit that her Mom was a Lamaze dropout and left the entire
childbirthing thing up to her Daddy and Dr. Sedgwick. Is that what you
want me to tell our little Maggie?" Holly is surprised, and repeats the
name. It is her middle name. Fletch wants to name the baby after her.
They kiss. Rog appears, unobserved by them, being wheeled around the corner.

Cut to Duh on the Farm:
"Roger is a dead man," she declares. "Dead. Dead. I will kill him myself. I
should have let him have his heart attack and die at the funeral home." She
vows to send him behind bars as soon as he gets out of the hospital, and
predicts the return of her money to her bank account. Hart tries to calm her
down. She waves the folder, and says she is going to use this to nail him.
Hart says she can't; he didn't get it legally. She might be able to put Rog
in jail but she won't be able to get her money back.
Di: "What do you mean, I may be able to. Even though I gave him my
POA, he embezzled. ... My father would like nothing better than to fry
Roger's assets." Hart tries to convince her the money is gone. Even if
Rog goes to jail, when he gets out he'll be counting the money on the beach
while sipping pina coladas. At least she will be rid of him. Di vows that she
isn't going to end up poor and miserable.
[Why is she believing Hart? If she has POA and the account numbers, can't
she also access the accounts? She should hop the Lewis jet asap]
Hart: " It doesn't have to be that way for you."
Di: "Believe me it won't be." She exits.

Cedars : Folly and pseudo-LOWHAD:
Closeup of a pensive Rog taking it all in. Folly discusses the name Maggie.
Fletch says it is "your name. It stands for somebody who's been to hell and
made it back, knows what it takes to keep going and then some." Roger
winces. Holly smiles at Fletcher. Fletch tells her he doesn't care what kind
of school their daughter goes to. "Half of her heart and soul come from her
Mom and that means we're going to have a very extraordinary child.
She may have to struggle, but she will make it, and she will have a lot of
love." Fletch calls the baby Maggie Reade. They ask the baby what she thinks,
and she gives Holly a big kick. They don't know if that means she likes it or
not. Rog has had enuf of this pseudo-LOWHAD fest, and motions to be wheeled
away. Fletch suggests a newspaper contest to decide the baby's name.
Fletch: "We have a distinct advantage over the other couples in there. We've
already raised kids. They grew up from cuddly infants into headstrong teens--
or in Blake's case, headstrong married women."
Holly: "She's calmed down quite a lot."
Fletch: "Exactly my point. Those couples in there think everything goes to
plan. We know different because even if your baby is healthy, no matter
how much you plan life has a way of taking over. In with the good stuff
is bound to be heartache and disappointment. The important thing is how
you get through it. "
Holly: " You're such a good guy. I love you so much. How did I find you
anyway?"
Fletch: "On the blotter of your desk. [LOL--my nominee for line of the
day]. Really we were meant to be just as this baby is meant to be and
it'll turn out all right if we just let it."
Holly is inspired by this, and wonders if Fletch still feels like coaching
her. He thinks they are pros. They dance toward the classroom. Fletch
tells her to follow his lead.
Capt. Lamaze is really Fred Astaire in disguise.
Holly: "After you Fred."
Fletch: "After you Ginger."

Cedars : ER outer lobby:
Marcus is on the phone when Di enters. He hangs up and tries to talk to her.
She is hell bent on seeing Roger. Marcus tells her that he has been moved.
He finally gets her to listen: Rog hasn't had a heart attack. He shows her
the bottle, and she expresses interest. Marcus tells her that these are
the reason for Rog's palpitations. His Dad recognized them as pills draft
dodgers took in the 60's to avoid going in the Army. [Excuse me but this
is the second time they have said that. Couldn't they have made it clearer
that people dodged the draft in the 60's and 70's to avoid going to Vietnam?
There were resistance counselors; it was very difficult. My husband was in
grad school and made a pre-diabetic condition worse plus qualified as a CO.
It was not as easy as popping some pills at the physical. You had to go to
another doctor of their choice to get it verified. It was a bad time which I
think they are treating rather flippantly]. Di finally sees the light: Rog
has done it to her again.
Di: "He did it so he wouldn't have to go to court today and explain about
the money. Marcus, how stupid am I? [Is that a rhetorical question?] I was
sitting in there by his bed holding his hand. He knew exactly how to get
to me..."
Marcus: "Dinah, it's over."
Di: "Yes, it is. This time it's really over."

Chez Matt/Van:
Matt is apologizing for Amanda. He should have thrown that garbage out when
she mentioned Henry. Van thinks that whatever she does hurts her. She can't
touch them. They both tell each other how much they missed each other. Big
embrace. Matt picks up Van and carries her upstairs.
[What no Annie? No Blake? No Dinah? Lock the door quick!]

Spaulding Asylum:
Amanda is burning pages while Al watches. Amanda closes the safe, leaves
stuff burning as she exits. Al comes in and douses the flames with
coffee. She finds a fragment with Madamdaconda's LA alias. She calls Hawk.
The waitress-slash-actress answers: "Mr. Bocho's private line."
Hawk grabs it, and explains it's just the crazy hotel people who take
calls when you're indisposed. Alex tells him the alias: it's Heidi Fleiss
[no I mean, Mandy Harper]. Hawk says he'll get right on top of it. There
is a big splash, and someone says, "Hey, you big hunk of man, come back
in the pool."
Muttering you big hunk of man, Alex calls Victor and tells him to gas up
the jet for the West coast. She exits through the secret passageway, and
unlike Amanda closes it up.

LOWHAD II/III continued:
Folly are putting on their coats and saying good-bye to the other Lamaze
couples including Mr. and Ms. Yuppie. Holly wonders how Fletch avoided
flinching, and he claims it was breath mints. As they exit, they see Viv
putting up the sign for the DS support group, 5-6 p.m. [Doesn't seem like
Viv got there awfully early?] Fletch tells her they were the stars of the
session--and fell asleep during the relaxation routine. Viv says she has
a feeling they don't need her. Folly exits, and Fletch wonders if they
should go home and practice their (raised eyebrows) technique. Holly says
he is not only the best coach, he is the sexiest.

Cedars : DS support group room:
Griff goes into the DS support group room. He calls for Cucha. Viv wonders
what he is doing there. He says that they have something to settle.

Hartbreak Farm:
Hart is muttering. He should forget it. He did what he told her he would
do and now he's out of it. He grabs his coat and exits.

Cedars : ER exam room:
An aide wheels Rog back into the room. He makes a lame excuse to get rid
of the guy and starts looking for the pills before he is transferred upstairs.
He can't find the pills in the pillowcase. He sees the smashed ones on the
floor.

Gun Shop:
Di (who has added shades to her black ensemble) says: "That one. Let me
see that one." The guy shows her a pistol. She picks it up.
"This seems so small. Is it big enough to kill someone?
Freeze Frame on the would be gun moll's face.

Oh and I can't forget: Holly Maggie Norris Thorpe Bauer Linsay-Reade's
(did I forget anybody here?) maternity fashions by Mimi.

On a personal note, Lane Hatfield who has been alternating with me
on doing the Monday updates, has to give them up. I know we all really
appreciate her updates, and will miss them. As much as I would like
to, it would be difficult for me to do the update every week, so
I wonder if anyone would be interested in alternating with me.
If so, email me privately. Thanks.
