           ***********GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE*************
                    for Monday, March 13, 1995

ALEX: THE WOMAN SCORNED:
Alan tries to badmouth A-M, saying it was a mistake to give him the Spaulding
presidency. Alex is preoccupied because of Fletcher and Holly. Alan is quite
amused by this news, and laughs away as Roger enters the room. Alan makes Alex
promise she won't go to Roger for help with the Holly and Fletch situation.
Talk turns back to A-M, and Alex tells Alan she doesn't feel sorry for
Alan since he handed Spaulding to A-M on a silver platter. They're
interrupted by a call from the society columnist at the Journal reporting
to Alex that Holly has returned to the Journal, but Fletch appears to be
gone for good.

Alex continues to insist that she wants nothing to do in the battle between
father and son over Spaulding, and excuses herself from the table to go over
to rub some salt into Roger's wounds over Holly. She leaves, and Roger
phones someone to get an update on Holly.

Later, on some street, Alex calls Ben over to her limo, to grill him about
Fletcher. He fills her in on Holly showing up at the ice fishing cabin. She
shows interest in his activities, then he leaves to play with his friends.

BLAKE GETS A SPINE AGAIN (FINALLY!):
Blake stops Dinah on her way out. Blake tells her she's sick of all the games
Dinah's been playing, and she is going to put a stop to them right now (since
Ross is being so blind).

Ross and Ed have lunch at the country club. They talk about Dinah. Ross is
thrilled to have her there, and Ed wonders how the three of them (Ross, Blake
and Dinah) are getting along. Ross lets him know that all is not well.

Blake reads Dinah the riot act about her behavior and tells her she isn't buying
any of her act. Dinah tries the poor little abandoned child act, but Blake
doesn't buy that load of crap either. Blake informs Dinah that she's picked
the wrong parent to try to get money from since they're broke. Dinah
doesn't buy it, and Blake kicks her out.

Ross tells Ed he doesn't know what to do about the problems between Blake and
Dinah. He also doesn't want to give Dinah up to Vanessa, either. He wants to
get to know her better. Ed suggests he explain these feelings to Blake.

Blake kicks Dinah out, telling her to go live with her mother. Dinah thinks
she's making a big deal over one phone bill. Blake says it is more than the
phone bill, and says Ross will, too, once he talks to whoever it was that Dinah
keeps calling in France. Dinah says Ross doesn't know how to speak French, and
Blake tells Dinah that she speaks enough french to know that she wasn't in the
hospital wasting away; she was living it up as a party girl. Dinah tries to
bribe Blake with the $600 scarf, but Blake says no way. Dinah suddenly agrees
quite cheerfully to move out, saying Blake can tell Ross that she kicked her
out.

Meanwhile, back at the country club, Roger gets ink all over himself when he
tries to sign the check for his lunch. Alan sees and laughs. Roger then
imagines that Ross and Ed are also laughing at him. He sees distorted visions
of Ross, Ed, and Alan making fun of him.

Ross returns home, and tells Blake he'll lay down some ground rules for Dinah.
He also says he understands what a strain it is on Blake to have Dinah there.
Ross says he isn't an idiot, he knows Dinah lied about a lot of stuff, but that
he and Dinah were cheated and that he never got to teach her right from wrong.
Blake reminds him that she isn't a child. Blake is afraid of what Dinah would
do to Ross or anyone else who gets in the way of what she wants. Ross wants to
know how to resolve the tension between Blake and Dinah. Blake tells him it is
too late, and wants to know what he'd do if she asked him to ask her to leave.
Ross talks about all he's missed out on in Dinah's life. He wants to show her
the unconditional love of her father and make up for lost time. Blake tells
Ross she asked Dinah to leave, but tells hi m she'll ask her to stay when
she gets back. Ross doesn't says a word, but storms out. Blake calls
the country club looking for Roger. She just wanted to hear his voice
since she's having such a bad day. He asks if she's had a fight with
Ross. She says yes, but that it will be OK. They hang up and we see
that Dinah is having a glass of wine with The Dodger.

Dinah tells Roger that she met Holly. She doesn't know what the big deal is
about her. She says Roger is the real catch, a man in the top 1% of men.
Dinah wines about how she can't get along with her mother, Matt or
Blake. Roger says she can always talk to him.

Ross is back from unsuccessfully looking for Dinah. Blake assures him she'll be
OK, and Ross seethes that she better.

Roger tells Dinah that he thinks she's just what the town needs. He finds her
a very charming change of pace, to Dinah's slight disappointment. She convinces
Roger to take her on an adventure. He feeds her a cherry (Ewwwww.... No, not
Rog and Dinah!)

KUNG FU MATT (OR, I GUESS THEY GOTTA GET THE RATINGS SOMEHOW):
In the beefcake scene of the day, Matt practices his martial arts moves wearing
nothing but a tight pair of pants. Vanessa shows up and admires the show. He
sees her and says, "Well, you asked me what I loved."

Matt does a demonstration of his technique to Vanessa. She wants to know if he
can teach her how to do it. She asks if it is self-defense, and he says it can
be, but it is much more to him. Vanessa says now she knows the thing he loves
the second most.

Matt gives Vanessa a martial arts lesson. Vanessa looks more like she's doing
ballet than martial arts. A rather sensual scene, with lots of nice shots of
Matt's chest.

THE HOLLY AND FLETCHER CRISIS DU JOUR:
Holly tries to manage the chaos left in the wake of Fletcher's resignation at
the Journal.

At Fletcher's house, Nick teases Fletcher on the slow progress of his novel,
then announces that he has also quit the Journal.

Nick says he's quitting the Journal in a show of solidarity with Fletcher.
Fletcher freaks, saying he can't do that to Holly, and that Fletch quit for
purely personal reasons. He then starts to see through Nick's ploy, assuming
that Holly put him up to it. Nick denies it, but Fletch won't buy it. Fletch
claims he doesn't regret leaving the Journal at all, and tries to convince Nick
to go back. Nick refuses, and Fletcher wonders to himself how the paper will
get out. [Right, like he and Nick are the only competent newspapermen in
Springfield! Maybe if it were some little two-bit semi-weekly paper, but the
Journal is supposed to be a fairly substantial publication.]

Holly and Tangie are also convinced that only Nick and Fletcher can put out a
newspaper in Springfield. They don't know what's up with Nick, but Holly
refuses to call Fletcher's to find out. Tangie tells Holly she has to
get Fletcher back. H says she tried, but he refused. Tangie tries to
call him, but H stops him.

Round two of the battle of the wills: Fletcher insists he is not going back,
but thinks Nick should, especially since he hasn't let Holly know about
his quitting. Nick says he will, after the afternoon edition is out.
They joke about how bad the paper will be, including joking about how it
will be full of split infinitives (oh please! Nick wouldn't know a split
infinitive if it bit him on the butt!). Fletch wants to know what Nick
is trying to prove. Nick doesn't like having to do all kinds of extra
work since Fletch quit (poor baby!). Fletch is still concerned about
Holly and the rest of the staff. Nick reassures him that the paper will
get out.

Holly and Tangie have to get assertive with some of the staff, but appear to be
getting things under control.

Nick shows up at the Journal. He tells Holly about how he tried to trick Fletch
into coming back by pretending to quit. Holly suggests he continue with the
game, letting Fletch believe he really did quit. Tangie barges in and he
informs her that he quit. Tangie chews him out and leaves. Nick says he
doesn't know if Fletcher will be back or not.

Holly shows up at Fletcher's to announce that she'll be the one to leave the
paper.

That's it!
